A touchy subject that I tend to avoid like the plague…

Now seeing political ads in my state of Indiana, I think it’s time to talk about something I tend to steer clear from. And that’s politics.

Now I’m an Independent. As in, I vote for no one. Because whoever they get in is going to be a career politician. But now, the 2016 Presidential election is troubling to say the least.
We got a businessman, who’s also an insane wall-builder(Trump). We got a typical career politician(Cruz)(who seems to be the only one to stop the businessman). And lastly we got the underdog who’s seems to be fairly popular(Kasick).

And then we got the Democrats. First, Ms “honestly, I don’t know where those files went!” (Hillary). And Mr “I will give Americans all of these things for free…I just won’t tell them they have to pay for them via their taxes!”. Mr ‘FeelTheBern’.

As an Independent, I get to go with either party. Yet I haven’t voted in over a decade. Used to be able to vote, but it expired on me. I understand I can re-establish my right to vote, yet why bother? To “have a voice”, has no meaning in this corrupted “greed makes the world go ’round” country I live in. And if I had the means, I would had moved to Canada and said “FUCK YOU!!” to both parties! Because it seems moving to Canada is the only option to ‘vote for no one’.

But I haven’t gone over my opinions of the candidates yet. Though that’s such a touchy subject in this day and age; with being attacked or worse…shot to death for having an opinion that’s different than someone else’s. But, I might as well start here.

Am I against Trump? Yes. Yes I am. He’s going to be a very serious problem if he becomes president. Of course, most of my feelings against Trump were influenced by the media. But it’s also the way he acts, especially against disabled people (like that reporter). He doesn’t feel like ‘President material’ to me. He acts like a businessman (and an unfunny clown), and has literally brainwashed his supporters into attacking anyone against him.
I’m sure you’ve seen all of the media reports of Trump’s rallies, of a random protester being beaten black and blue over being against him.

But Cruz, he’s …. I don’t want another career politician as the President either! I’ll admit, Trump was actually right for calling him ‘Lyin’ Ted’. This is why I don’t even bother with voting. Because no matter who I vote for, someone I hate will get in.

But… in order to keep Trump out of the White House, I’m literally forced to vote for Cruz. As the commercial that I just saw went, the math doesn’t lie. Indiana’s Primary is May 3rd. I will…support Cruz. But ONLY to keep Trump out! I refuse to go any further than that.
What kills me is everytime a presidential hopeful wins a state, they’re all “Thank you, (state here)!! I will never forget you!” I call BS. As soon as they win the presidency, they’ll forget alllll about those delegates, and it’ll be ‘business as usual’.

One thing I wish would go away / Gum issues

The last post I made in here, how there’s some things that make me envy of people with a life. There’s also things I’m glad I’m not a part of; taxes. Yet there’s also a thing I can’t avoid; bill increases.

Namely, Time Warner Cable. Less than a month until I get this supposed 200MB speed upgrade, and they’re already jacking my bill up! I normally pay $65.33 a month for my 30MB package. Now all the sudden, the bill has jumped $15.36 to $80.69. The reason, is the modem lease fee has gone up (because they can), and what kills me is “we noticed you weren’t part of this”….which makes me want to say to them “why couldn’t you had FUCKING IGNORED ME?!?!” Bastards!
The other reason is the promotional period I was on (that kept my bill low), had expired. They managed to get me on a cheaper plan and got my bill down to $70.69, good through this time next year.

What’s cringe-worthy is, I know there’s no way in hell this new $70 bill isn’t going to pay for the new 200MB upgrade next month. Yet they assured me that it will cost nothing for this upgrade, and my bill will not go up. Well, my bill DID go up, because they found out “Ohh.. you weren’t paying out the ass! Let us fix that!”. Yet they can see it as “your bill didn’t go up because of the upgrade. We never said it would never go up!”
Again, bastards! ….. Still, this upgrade will pay for itself. So I shouldn’t be bitching about it.

.
There is another concern. A concern in my mouth. Nearly a week ago, I had more teeth removed. Typically, my gums will heal up in less than a week. This time…they aren’t. They’re still as swollen as they were on the day I got them taken out.
What’s also bugging me, is feeling a small’ish bump on my inner nerve (next to my tongue) that’s about an 8th of an inch tall. On Day 1 through Day 2, it used to be as tall as a tooth. But it shrunk down to that…it just won’t go away.
Was prescribed antibiotics, and told the swelling should go down in two weeks. First week’s going to hit tomorrow, and no change in the swelling.

I feel the dentists that extracted my teeth, failed me. Because I feel a sharp thing sticking out of my gums on the other side of the bulge. I originally assumed it was the blood clot, but now I feel it’s a piece of tooth/bone they forgot to remove. Could also be a piece of food. Yet if it was food, it would had been dislodged by now from the constant salt water washing I’ve been doing. I also would be able to wiggle it.
So it’s not food. It’s a piece of the remaining tooth or bone they forgot to remove.
And if my gums don’t heal by the 25th (which will be two weeks), I’m going to go see another dentist. This one will be within walking distance, so I won’t have to get my parents involved.

Yet the strange thing about this, all of the other inflated gums that aren’t related to the piece of tooth.. aren’t healing. Maybe everything is attached to this one piece of tooth. I dunno. I just wish my gums would heal and I wouldn’t have to concern myself with it.

The Driving Principle

So this is going to be a rather interesting discussion. I’ve always been envy of people’s perfect lives. But there’s one aspect of their life that I was once qualified to do. And if I would just put the effort in….I could be qualified again, if I would just get over my fear.

And no, it isn’t registering to vote. Though the only fear with that is a Trump(or Cruz.. or Clinton)-controlled government. Still an Independent for that. I don’t belong to any party, as I’ve seen what both have done to this great country of ours.

Erm.. sorry about all of that political stuff slipping in there. The real fear and aspect, is driving. This is the one aspect that always seems to bug me when I have friends that are much younger than me, such as Adm. zalex and zw98…who can drive. I mentioned in my ‘Space Engineers Fun Time’ video, how they got their drivers licenses. Since then, I felt “now I KNOW I need to find someone else that can play SE, that has a shittier life than mine”.

As they say, driving is independence wrapped up in a pretty little bow. But it can also be a death trap. It’s like being in a moving coffin, because you never know who’s going to pull infront of you while trying to beat a red light on their side.
Anyway, yeah. It’s that fear. Not to mention, having my own car would just add more pollution to the air.

Then again, being able to drive myself up to the dentist, or the doctor when I need to (and not having to depend on my father to get me there) is also a nice thing. Because my father’s getting pretty old. He’s almost 65 years old. Soon he’ll be too old to drive.
My mother is the same age as he is. She used to have a driver’s license, but ended up almost running someone off the road and has vowed never to try again.
My fear is knowing this is no longer a video game, and there is no “god mode” to keep me from being hit by another car.

I used to have a learner’s permit, many years ago (I think back in 2006). Back then, I was playing a Driver’s Ed game (and playing SCS’ 18WoS games) and had a steering wheel. I felt confident enough to try it real life. I knew pretty much all the basics of driving. There was really no way I could fail.
Did my learner’s permit test and passed. Was happy about that. My father was my teacher and I drove his car around. Using my training from that Driver’s Ed game, I did quite well. That was until….
My father felt confident that I could handle crossing the bridge and going to Louisville. Being that close to water (and other cars), my confidence went downhill quite fast and started to panic.
Got off the bridge, and I’m sitting there swerving back and forth on the road as my nerves were shot. He took control and all I could do was apologize. Since then, I lived in fear of ever trying again. I can never get that terrifying thing out of my head.

Parents told me to look for a driver’s ed school around here, but I have yet to look for one. I feel I will fail. And I just don’t want to try what happened back then, again.
Though as they say, when you fall off your bike, you get back up and try again. But a bike isn’t a car. A bike doesn’t require a driver’s license (or extensive training to use one properly). And a bike doesn’t require insurance (well, a motorcycle does).

And until I eventually get over my fear and put the past behind me, I will always be envy of people that are younger than me who can drive.

Why I quit ESO for good

I said I was going to uninstall my characters, and uninstall the game. And I was not kidding. But I’m not looking for ‘brownie points’ for keeping my word. What I did, still upsets me.
It wasn’t the “greed is ruining the world” post that I made in here…it was the very thing that always bugged me about MMOs (and RPG’s). Something I just can’t seem to control my temper over. The whole ‘L2P’ aspect.

But this one had to do with content that my guild told me that it’s OK that I couldn’t do it, yet I was told by others that there should be no escuse. Scaled content. Mainly the Orsinium DLC.
I just don’t get why they felt it was a good idea instead of making mobs the player’s level, to make the mobs the max level (and then tricking the player that they’re scaled to VR15).
As I said, long ago, I tried to do this content as a Level 31. I felt that killing mobs took a lot longer than it was with normal Level 31 mobs, and my guild agreed and asked “why are you doing vet content?” ‘Vet Content’, which means, high-end endgame content. Aka, VR16s only. Yet, people were telling me “any level could do it”.

So I made a thread a day ago, asking why is this scaling a thing. The first three were pretty supportive, even telling me how that even if I had become a VR16, the mobs would still take a long time to kill.
Yet that’s all the responses I got for that entire day. So I bumped the thread, and…the others weren’t so supportive.

Instead of discussing what was said, they were all “wow.. ok. I have a Level X and I was able to do it with no problem”, even one telling me to tell one of my guildies to give me a “gear health check”.
And then the tip of the lava iceburg (my iceburg is made out of lava, which is made out of pure anger and frustration) was scraped off by five painful words: “if you’re having trouble with Orsinium, you really should. learn. to. play. your. class.”
*twitch*

And that’s what convinced me to not only lose my shit (not in the forum), but do what I said I would do. I didn’t even think about it. I just…did it.
Though the smart thing I could had done, was to provide video proof that there’s a problem. But since I don’t do PC videos, that’s out the door. I could had used Twitch to do it, but Twitch themselves still haven’t gotten back to me on that (and I doubt they ever will).

I’ve vowed to never play another MMO for as long as I live. And no, I do not feel any better because of it. I still feel the same frustration and anger as I did before I did the deed.
Even if ZoS somehow was able to give me my money back, I would not feel happy….because I’m not happy at myself.
Yet one thing does calm me down and makes me think. If this was true that these guys had absolutely no problem whatsoever with their Level 3’s and their Level 9’s in Wrothgar, why did my guild wonder why I was doing vet content? Did they not want to tell me the truth? Or did they not know what the others in that thread told me?
This is why I wished I did a video, proving that I cannot do it. But it’s too late for regret. What’s done is done. And really, I should had never gotten into the MMO genre in the first place.

I’ve now discovered what made me ‘snap’ (Feat: ESO)

*Warning, the words I use in the blog post below, are highly cynical in nature. Please forgive me, for I am very cynical (since Blizzard’s actions with WoD). If this offends you, please do not read. Thank you*

I’m suffering from trust issues. No, not romantic trust issues that pretty much anyone with an unhealthy relationship has to endure… I’m talking about trust issues with the video game industry. Namely, video game companies who seem innocent and say “we’re making this video game for YOU, the consumer!”…only later to turn their back on you and see dollar signs in their eyes and then pull away from supporting their playerbase.

That being said, this should’ve been seen of Zenimax(ZoS) since Day 1 that I decided to get ESO (Elder Scrolls Online for people that haven’t been paying attention to the posts in my Games blog). The whole Crown Store screamed “pay 2 win” to me (when I see how you can pay for crowns to get XP boosters). I even mentioned this on my day 1 post of installing ESO for the first time. Yet those feelings melted away when I noticed they were completely optional ‘toys’.
So I managed to defeat the final boss; the Daedric Prince named Molag Bal. I also reached the max level. So this should mean in typical MMO logic, I’ve unlocked endgame content, yes? … Wrong. The game then switches you from ‘Level’, to ‘Veteran’. You start as V1, and you can go up to V16. Now I hear rumors that this system would be removed in a few months from now.
Anyway, then you’re given a quest from a guy named “Cadwell”, called “Cadwell’s Silver”.
This new Silver level allows the player to do the content of one of the other two factions (which is different than any other MMO I’ve played). The trick is, and Cadwell even warns you of this…”no one will see you as a Champion”. Ergo, all the work you did to gather all the NPC allies you could to take the fight to Molag Ball….was for NOTHING. And your char agrees with it (by saying “I’ll do it!” (as if he was paid by ZoS to keep quiet)). What. the. flying fuck.
You go back in time, to where Molag Bal is still alive. And ZoS calls this ‘content’. This…this is worse than going back in time in WoD to fight nothing but orcs. You do this twice…TWICE. With Cadwell’s Gold, you do it again. How…can they call this ‘content’?! Then again, this is better than mindnumbing Apexis Crystal dailies.
I dunno. But when I feel I complete the game, and save the world. I’d like it to STAY saved! Of course, that’s every Superhero’s wish. But Superheros only exists in movies and comic books (and even some badly-made games).

But we’ve dealt with corporate greed for years. Why is it any different now? Because it’s only getting worse and there’s no one putting their foot down (that’s at a high power) to put a stop to it.
So, let’s say we don’t wish to go back in time and do that ‘content’ again. And that’s why there are DLCs. Some say it brought the downfall of ESO, yet most feel it made the game even better. Seeing locked content on the world map, and little blue glowing boxes that were locked to you. And how do you get them unlocked? Money! REAL..LIFE money. Of course, this isn’t a first to have content that were behind paywalls.
Now, most people say that getting an ESO+ account is a good way to “try before you buy”. But this involves forking over $15/mo. My version of ‘try before you buy’ is offering a FREE trial..not a PAID trial. And you can’t even get your $15 back if you don’t like the content.

So let’s go over the DLCs as they stand now, with more coming in the months ahead;
–Imperial City(IC): PvP only. Only caters to 25% of the community. They do have some PvE content like group dungeons and a few delves. But the risk of being ganked by assholes is quite high. I also heard major FPS issues that still remain unfixed to this day. Glad to see where the money is going…in their fucking POCKETS!! D:
–Orsinium(OS): PvE. Beautiful place to solo, and the delves are mind-blowing with awesome artwork. Yet the fact the content is scaled, it takes longer to kill NPCs there than normally. I will be going over this in a much more detailed post.
–Thieves Guild(TG): PvE with stealth systems. The life of a thief has never been more profitable in this DLC. Yet the game forces you to be a master thief and gives you little to no help to do so, only to “hide in a hiding spot”.

…*sigh* I hate being cynical. I really do. I want to break this, but I also wish I could stand in the way of greed filling the industry. Be that one voice that says “ENOUGH of the greed! CARE about your customers, NOT the money they pay you!”

And this is really all I can say about this. ZoS is no different from Blizzard, and it’s the reason why I can’t trust anyone with my money anymore.

The latest attempt to fix the connection issues

The tech guy came exactly at 3pm. He tested my Coxial Cable, like the last guy. Then he said he would check the lines. So I followed him out.
After looking for where the cable comes out of the house and gets to the pole, I asked him if he saw anything strange with his testing. And he said “you got a bad signal”. And I’m thinking “YES!! I’m NOT crazy! I have proof I mean what I say!! :D”

He did another test, and showed me what it was. I saw a line going up and down constantly. He said it’s supposed to be a low, flat line. So obviously there’s an issue with the cable. And he said he would fix it by replacing the cable. He also told me how the previous tech guy…didn’t exactly check everything.
I had to go through hell by moving the dresser out of the way, to get the cable (and work it around all the crap I have plugged in back there).

But at the end, he replaced the cable going from the modem to the house, and the house to the power pole outside. He said “if this doesn’t get it, then it’s up to the maintenance people.” and told me that it won’t be on my end. That is a relief.
So, if the problem doesn’t come back…….I will FINALLY switch gears and get back to my job of reviewing PS4 games.
Actually, even if it does (yet isn’t bad enough to cause me to not be able to upload the video to Youtube), I’ll be still getting back to doing videos. I’ll admit, I’ve been procrastinating. ESO has my full attention, instead of my job. 😛

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention this. When he was putting the new cable up, I asked him about this ‘buyout’ to Charter. He’s acting like he doesn’t know what’s going on (which is the same reaction I had from the first tech guy that told me).
Plus I told him about the 200Mbps and asked him…”are you sure about that? Not even Speedtest can go above 100Mbps!” He too doesn’t see that being possible either. Plus he feels trouble in the future, of how people will be all “my internet is only going 150Mbps! FIX PL0X!!”
He also mentioned I would be getting the faster speed in May, instead of April. I told him the previous guy said April, and he said “I think he got the county wrong”, stating the county I live in will be getting it in May. Also stated they’re already installing it in Kentucky.

.
One last thing before I wrap this up;
As currently what I’m seeing from Speedtest (of the time of this post)…. well…. it looks like the problem is about….80% fixed. I’m not exactly seeing a major drop in speed, but I am seeing the meter not jump to 36-37Mbps off the bat. It’s taking like 3-4 seconds instead of a second to get that fast.
As long as I don’t see speeds of 5-10Mbps like I was before, I’m not going to bitch.

.
EDIT: Played ESO.. had a few spikes. However, nothing that was ruining combat for me! Plus, I ran a Speedtest when it happened.. and my speed was perfectly normal! 😀
I believe that was just server lag, and not client lag. I’m now nearly convinced they fixed it. I would be completely convinced, but I also feel I should be cautious.
Tomorrow is the true debater. Almost Level 50. If I can get there, and defeat Molag Bal without ANY issues with client lag, I will be convinced they got it.
But first, I need to do my job.

Posted in Personal | Comments Off on The latest attempt to fix the connection issues

Attempting to pinpoint the random slow internet connection

Yep, it’s STILL happening… even with the switching of the cables, it’s still happening. How it puzzles me so. It’s like, something is “eating” my bandwidth when it happens. It feels like someone is DDoSing my connection. And that’s mainly due to how it seems to bounce back to normal. Yet, who would want to do that? … Angry? That’s a crazy assumption. How would he know my IP address? Also, if it was angry, Time Warner would had seen it on their end.

No, it’s not angry. This is a local issue. I still suspect my Ethernet cable may be going out on me. I will be getting it replaced soon. Hopefully it will fix the problem.
There are a few things I’ve ruled out as being the problem;
-WiFi. The fact my phone still uses it even when I’m not, I felt this was ‘eating’ my bandwidth. It’s not.
-My PS4 and Dish having cables connected to the modem, it isn’t those. I unplugged them, but it still happened. I was thinking they could be sending a signal that’s causing my modem to preform slower.
-The Coaxial Cable. I had assumed it could had been something that I have behind my dresser was pinching the cable. Yet this would had been picked up by either the technician yesterday, or Time Warner themselves. That cable is on their end; not mine.
Plus, it’s not something I can easily replace. It goes through the wall and outside to the poles. I would have to get another technician out here and replace the cable.

So obviously, there’s something wrong between the connection of the cable modem and my computer. Yesterday, when the technician got all the cables connected to the back of the new cable modem, he said how my old WiFi connection will have to be wiped out, and I’ll have to use the default system.
Anyway, I had finally got the password of the WiFi, and after using it…I lost connection of the wired side. Time Warner told me to unplug the Ethernet cable, switch the pins around and plug them in, and that got it working.
Since then, I feel this could possibly be the culprit.

.
EDIT: I’m back with a brand new Ethernet cable. Costed $10, but I hope it’s worth it.
It’s a ‘CAT 6’, and it’s shorter than the one they gave me (by 3FT). Also, the one they gave me is a ‘CAT 5’. And from what I read, a ‘CAT 6’ can handle speeds up to 1000Mbps(when a ‘CAT 5’ cannot). I did also buy a ‘CAT 5e’ (incase the other one didn’t fit or work) that can handle speeds up to 100Mbps.
Since I’m getting the upgrade to 200Mbps next month, I feel it was a smart move to get this upgraded cable. And it does work really well.
Yet I do hope it works to fix my problem. The fact it’s shorter, I feel is less time it’ll take for data to be transferred from and to my computer. And less time means less ping, which means more data will be transferred, which means a much smoother internet experience for me.

But one thing has bugged me since these issues started. Why does this only happen when I play ESO? Why not when I’m doing normal browsing? Does ESO really take that much bandwidth?

And Youtube. I haven’t watched many videos lately. That was my first sign something was wrong… yet the thing is, the ridiculously slow buffering speeds started happening a month ago … and ESO was working perfectly.
Could it be ESO itself? Or perhaps even a mod I’m using that’s somehow “eating” my bandwidth at times to the point it’s slow as a snail? I’ve never heard of such a thing, but at this time…it’s hard to rule out anything without trying everything.

So, if this new cable doesn’t fix the problem, then I’m going to have to point the finger at ESO itself and either try to disable the mods I’m using, or reinstall the game. An improper install might cause the slowness.

.
EDIT2: *frustrated sigh* Ok. It’s not the cable causing the issue. Removed all the mods I’m using in ESO, not that either. Running a repair right now. I’m running out of options.
It’s possible there could be a setting in ESO that could be causing this. Like that last one that assumed I had more than four cores and was causing major studdering.
Repair attempt completed. Checking if the problem is fixed now.

Nope. That isn’t the issue either. Still getting spikes. I’m now out of options. So I’m asking ESO’s tech support for help. Might call Time Warner and tell them to take my modem out of their ‘watch list’… as it’s pointless now to check it. They say it’s not on their end.
Yet what if they’re lying to me? …. Ugh. What I was told, how Time Warner lies to their customers and gets away with it. And I don’t know how to get proof. … And I refuse to see them being liars. I’ve dealt with them for 5+ years and had minimal issues with them.

.
EDIT3: I did a Live Chat with Time Warner instead of calling. I was curious if their ‘5 day monitoring’ picked up anything. And if not, then remove me from it as it’s a waste of their time.
The first person I spoke with, said there actually was a problem with the ping. That proves that ESO is not at fault! It’s happening outside of ESO, too! But when they did their reset, I lost connection. Not smart.
Spoke to another guy. This one was quite intelligent. Spent 15 minutes going over testing the ping. Also, this guy seemed to understand what I was going through, and told me over and over “we will fix this”. I like his determination. It’s better than what I heard over the phone. All I heard there was “Dude… we’ve done everything we can. Please stop calling UNLESS the Online light flashes or goes out!” And I even explained this to him.

But at the end of the conversation, I didn’t feel convinced of his words. I keep thinking “what if they’re capping my speed at spotty times to make me think something is wrong?”.. why… why so much hate over Time Warner? I hear they’re as bad as Comcast.
Or is this “capping”, different for everyone? The technician told me how typically, a cable modem ‘caps’ its speed depending on the most used device (or something like that). This being my computer, it has no need to cap the speed.

What can I do? Keep telling them every. fucking. time it happens?! And yes, I’m stressing myself out over this.

.
EDIT4: This will be the last time I do an edit. I did another traceroute, and I managed to get a high ping of the scan (153ms)! This 100% proves it’s not ESO. Did another live chat. This person gave me a link that I was able to use (took awhile) to get back after they reset my modem again.
They had me do another test, and I got a 109ms ping. So…they’re going to send another tech guy out here. This one will be a higher-leveled guy than the last one, and will look at everything, not just the Coxial Cable. He’ll be checking the cable outside too, all the way to the pole (which is what I expected the last guy to do…), and will prove if the problem is indeed on my end, or theirs.
No more guesswork. No more stress. They’ll be doing the testing and not me. Very.. very happy.

Yet, what if they find no problem, and Time Warner is reporting no problem on their end (yet I’m still seeing it)? What then? … I guess I’ll be literally stuck with it.
Though I think it was pure luck of seeing that 109ms ping after the reset — or should I say proof that I’m not going insane (and also that ESO isn’t causing it).

Plus it’s silly to think a game would be causing it (when it hasn’t happened to others).

Posted in Personal | Comments Off on Attempting to pinpoint the random slow internet connection

More slowness issues… and why it might be on my end

The sudden ping jumps are still happening in ESO, except.. this time it’s different than before. This time, it’s hard to pinpoint the source. Because the problem seems to correct itself and pretends nothing is wrong, only for it to happen a few minutes later and once again.. act like nothing is wrong.
I caught one of them while doing a Speedtest, and sure enough my speed drops when it happens. But when it doesn’t, my speed is normal. This is pissing me off!!

Is it on their end? I’m seriously having my doubts now. I even called once and was told they would monitor it for an hour, and they did not see it … when I clearly did. So, they’re going to monitor it for five days.

But this is what scares me. They say if the Online light doesn’t blink or go off in five days (if/when the issue happens again)…….it’s NOT on their end; it’ll be on mine, and they’ll be pointing at my computer as the fault. But why in the hell would my computer be doing this?! I’ve never heard of such a thing!
That’s why it falls down to the cables I’m using. Either the Coaxial Cable or the main Ethernet Cable that connects to the back of my computer, could possibly have a short in it that’s causing the sudden speed drops. Replacing them should be a priority in fixing this. It could had been something I did to cause the issue. Or the Coaxial Cable that’s behind my dresser is being pinched.

It could even be DISH doing it (not on purpose, mind you). The fact I had to have a cable that goes from the Hopper 3 to the back of my modem, it might be sending a signal that’s causing the sudden speed drops. I really can’t leave any possibilities out.
I think I may be losing my mind over this — blaming everything and everyone on my unhappiness that I can’t play ESO without seeing my char run in place when doing his charge attack.

A new modem (and a near future speed upgrade) / My ISP’s future

The tech guy from Time Warner came a half an hour earlier than expected. So early that I didn’t have enough time to clean my room… room’s still messed up by the time he got in. They have this “call one hour before arriving” thing, and they called (well, left a message) at 9:30am. But apparently they used the 9am calling instead.

I expected the guy to be working on the lines. Instead he came in the house and did a few tests on my Cable Modem… and found the cause of why I was having issues with ESO. However, my modem is still healthy.
But the guy told me how “we’re switching modems out” and gave me a new one….also telling me how my speed is going to go up DRASTICALLY. Instead of 30MB down, it’s going to be a whopping 200MB down!!! 😀
It makes me wonder if they’re trying to compete with Google Fiber, a service that they’re thinking of installing in Louisville (the city to the south of us). But wow… 200 FUCKING MB!!! 😀 😀 😀

I asked him if this is going to cost me anything, and he said no. Yet that’s not to say my bill won’t go up in the future. That much speed is probably going to make me pay close to $100/mo instead of $65/mo.
He said by April 6-8th, I should get the upgrade. Though I hope to receive some kind of notice of this before they do it, either via a letter or an email.

But he gave me a shiny new modem. Same brand name (Arris), but it’s bigger than the other one, and even offers two speed settings for my WiFi (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The future makes my brain hurt. 😛
It also stands up. There’s no way I can lay it on its side, unfortunately. But it’s a small inconvenience. It’s not exactly in the way, which is good.

The other news, is Time Warner Cable is going to be bought out by a company named ‘Charter’, next month. I never heard of this. And this isn’t going to be just my local branch, but all of Time Warner.
What’s iconic is I was talking to my Guildies in ESO yesterday about my issue, and one of them who lives in Southern California mentioned they have this ‘Charter’ ISP, and get 90MB for $60/mo. That’s not bad at all.
Yet I bet I’m going to have to be forced to create a new email address with them (TWC’s migrate service from InsightBB didn’t really work for me). Plus I’ll have to change the email of all the services that use the current address (such as my PS4 ID).
I just hope the transition is painless on my end(besides having to change all of my emails). The transition from InsightBB to Time Warner was, so this should hopefully be as well.

.
Two last things. I mentioned before how I was told that Time Warner likes to cap your speed and they will lie to your face. So I don’t know if I should trust the guy when I told him about it and he said how they don’t do that. As far as I know, I’ve been ‘immune’ to this capping. So maybe it only happens in the big cities?
And who’s to say this ‘Charter’ doesn’t do this? They may infact screw me over with this 200MB upgrade.

And the final thing. I told him how Youtube is so shitty with me in the afternoon; having really bad buffering in 1080p (and how I asked them over the phone if they were “Youtube HD Verified” and they said yes). He said this new modem should fix that.

The true test will be this afternoon, if it can handle playing ESO and watching a video at the same time. If so, of course I will be VERY happy. Never told him that I use an Ad Blocker, through (as a possible cause to the slowness).
But, we’ll see. 🙂
