The new RAM helped.. somewhat

Yesterday, Kovo wanted me to launch our old save in 7 Days to Die. The one with all the wooden spike traps, and spinning blades. Loading in at first, sure the framerate was a bit low (felt around 20-25’ish FPS). Worst part is, leaving the base and doing missions doesn’t help. Later someone told me it’s because the base is still loaded because there were people there, and my computer (since I’m hosting the server) loads what they see as well.
5-6 hours later, a few days after Day 35 (blood moon day), I’m on my motorcycle and the ground ahead of me wasn’t wanting to load for me.. yet again. By this time, Jusper joined us. And he told me that this is normal, that it’s not my computer choking to death.

But what did was when I was randomly looting houses before Day 42 (the next blood moon). Could barely swing my machete at zombies with my computer constantly micro-freezing.. and a few times completely freezing up.
Looking at my resource monitor, my RAM usage was at 82% with 23 of 32GB being used. Fucking HELL. So much for thinking more RAM was going to help me! ..The hell is with this game and its insatiable appetite for memory usage?!?!
Before I went to bed, I had a thought that “what if Bisect supported this game”. And sure enough they DO. This is perfect! Hopefully they’ll be willing to work with me in the afternoon, so this will greatly lessen the strain on my computer’s resources.

“Your plan was terminated”?! / Jusper the savior

The afternoon came. After going through my typical day of being yelled at by my
mother (this time for choosing personal comfort by keeping the AC going to keep my computer cool.. over the cat’s overly sensitive health), I was finally able to go
onto BisectHosting and go into my budget accou–.. uhh. Password wrong?! Excuse me!? No it isn’t! I got it wrote down right here, in full!
So I tried to reset my password, and.. it claims there’s no account for this email address. What the HELL?!?! Okay, clearly they ended my account from inactivity. But does that mean I’m still paying monthly for my hosting plan? They better not be. Managed to submit a ticket. Somehow my main account is still here. But what the hell happened to my plan?! Where are my files?!
After giving them some required info (name, address, proof of last payment), they told me my hosting plan was terminated back in March, either from “non-payment” or “a cancellation request from you”. Okay, I believe ‘non-payment’ over the other. Likely not having enough money in the bank in March to pay for it.
“We can bring back your current plan if you want” the person told me. I told them I wanted to have a 7 Days to Die dedicated server. They said I’ll have to pick the plan.
I looked at these plans…
To me, Package 2 seemed to be the way to go. 64GB.. wait. 6144MB?? That’s not 64GB. That’s 6GB! I wanted a 64GB plan to make sure there would be no issues!
Their ‘highest’ plan (Package 4), is 12GB. Uhhh… NO?? This won’t do at all!

Thankfully for me, after (earlier) announcing in our discord server that I’m going to be moving the saves over, Jusper spoke up offering to take care of the saves (for free). For a long time I didn’t like this idea, feeling if he’s responsible.. that means we have to wait for him to get on and launch. It took a bit longer until “…wait. Maybe what he meant is he has a dedicated server!! This will work!!”
I told him “if it’s dedicated, then sure”. And it is. 32GB RAM worth of it, and he’s willing to host it for free. Sold! Anything to make it easier on my computer!
All I needed to do was send the multiplayer saves to him, which I did (through this website). Arvixe will never know (and slap me with another ‘mass storage
abuse’ ticket). 😇

Kovo got DDoS’d…!?

A thing that is still ongoing, that I currently do not know who did this to him and why. But at least I know the ‘how’ (from Nova).
In my solo save after being told how I can get the Cobblestone Rocks I need to upgrade the wall around my base to Tier 2, I go out on my bicycle to the digging site. Kovo starts messaging me saying “I won’t be getting on the computer game tonight”. Yeah, I know. It’s new season time in Destiny 2. And that’s fine (what I told him). “No” he answers.
Huh. No Destiny 2? Who are you and what have you done with Kovo? He says “Apparently I’m being DDOS”.
…What?! Who the fuck would want to waste their time to DDoS a random person on the internet?! Especially Kovo of all people! He doesn’t know. I was in a call with Jusper at the time and told him. He felt that Kovo was likely overreacting, and it was just an issue with his router.
And then Nova messages me, giving proof. Said “someone got in his wifi that he didn’t recognize”. He tried to remove the intruder and assumed he broke something. But he’s unable to get on and has been in talks with his ISP. “He’s got a tech coming tomorrow to get it fixed”.
…DAMN! Poor Kovo! My only thought, this was either a random person who just enjoyed fucking with people, or a targeted attack to stop him from enjoying the new season. Jusper says he could try to turn off his router for an hour (if he uses a variable IP). I relayed this to Nova, and also told this directly to Kovo as well. But he said he already tried this when the attack started and it didn’t help. So he likely has a static IP.
His last message, says he’s going to get his bro over and “test his hotspot on the computer”. I assume this would all be done tomorrow.
I wish him all the luck, and God Speed of him getting back online. I don’t care if he
plays Destiny 2 until he’s blue in the face. At this point he deserves it.
EDIT: He got his internet connection back, and he (understandably) hates everyone on the planet right now. And he (sort of) knows who fucked with him; someone in his neighborhood. And it thankfully wasn’t a targeted attack. Probably someone outside in a black car with a laptop, finding an exploit to get into his router.
But now he’s back and all is good in the world.
