Minecraft: The freedom, the fun… turning into a bad game

Minecraft is my game away from WoW. It’s so much fun.. well, was. Why was it so much fun? Well first I gotta tell you about this game.

Minecraft is a 3D sandbox game, based on blocks. It’s made by Notch, co-founder of Wurm Online. He’s making his own game now.

Anyway, This game is a true sandbox game, using only your creativity. You can do what is impossible, for me anyway. Want an island map? Easy! Just tear down the walls.. you heard me.
Everything is made out of blocks, which makes me still wonder why didn’t he call it Blockcraft? There’s a whole lot of different blocks, with different things they do. Such as a Sponge block can be used to soak up water. And the Dirt block will get a grass covering over it with time.

Before this latest patch, angry got me into it. At first I thought “Oh goody.. all you do is build mines with blocks?”. That was until I walked into this level he made.. with a humongus canyon. Amazing how well the walls were done. I knew I had to take a whack at building something. So I started a small house, and noticed how fucking simple it was!

Then I went further, building larger houses. Roads. Highways. Rivers. Bridges! Everything I was building was fucking possible! This game has very little limits. Just complete, total freedom.
It reminds me of the times I used Duke3D’s BUILD. Except this thing is TRUE 3D. You can have hovering platforms. No ingame skills are needed, except your creativity. No leveling is needed. No hostiles. No tools. And no death. Just complete FREEDOM!! 😀
You can even build your own level, without using any external map editors!

.
Sadly.. this fun came crashing to an abrupt end when Notch updated the game a few days ago, removing all the cool ‘features’ I got used to. I have reason to believe he just pulled a Rolf on all of us; not giving a shit about the community anymore, and doing what he wants.
The ‘features’ I used. The minimap. The flight mode. The fast run.. were all hacks. I thought they were features that came with the Minecraft Client. They aren’t.

Back from the dentist, going again Friday

Man what a long day I had. It started with me waking up 9:30am. Usually I wake up by 11am.
Anyway, I went in because the right side of my mouth has been killing me. Constant throbbing.

So I got up there, waited in a cold waiting room. They had the fucking AC on and I’m wearing a coat. I’m the only one in there. Soon I’m in the dentist chair, explaining my pain and what’s causing it… which is my failure to enjoy brushing. They get a few X-Rays of my mouth and found abscessed teeth. The ones that have been chipped down to the gums.

My insurance will pay for them to be extracted, so I agree to it. However they give me a prescription for antibiotics and tell me to come back this Friday so they can safely extract the problem teeth.
So I get it, and head home.

Remember that I don’t have a life, so I don’t have a car. I had to get this medicare taxi service to take me up there and back home, free of charge.. to me anyway. The dentist office is in walking distance, but it would take a half an hour and I’m not in the best of shape to be walking that big of a distance.

So I’m home, then I got to walk up the highway to the drug store and get my prescription filled. First time I actually enjoyed waiting because I was out of breath. Get that done, made a pit stop to White Castle and got a shake, then walked back home.

Quite an adventure. I liked it. Got me away from the computer for awhile.

2012 doomsday called as bullshit, say scientists

I very, very rarely quote news articles in this blog, but this grabbed my attention.
According to star charts, the Earth and the Sun will be in the center of the galaxy — perfectly aligned, which will cause Earth’s axis to tilt, ending all life as we know it.

Scientists say this is bullshit. Yes, we will be in the center of the galaxy, but nothing will happen to the Earth they say.
And here is their “proof”.

.
I say, 2012’s doomsday is still real. Of course I thought the same thing about Y2K, which turned out to be fake. But the fact global warming is a problem, I feel we don’t have much longer to live.
Scientists are saying this to calm us down and make the non-believers laugh at us. I don’t work like this. Not until the very day that the Earth is supposably doomed, and nothing happens, will I believe it all was a lie.

Yet I tell myself, even if it wasn’t, what can we do about it? But my brain refuses to listen to it.

Still, like I said, until the day I see guaranteed, believable proof that there will be NO doomsday on December 21st, 2012, I will think there is.

All life as we know it could’ve ended tonight. Asteroid scare

Well this is certainly unpleasant. Apparently we could’ve been killed by an asteroid today!!
This “2009 TM8” named asteroid was only 216,000 miles away from the Earth. Now that may seem like a pretty big distance. But the Earth has it’s own gravitational pull. It’s what’s keeping the moon in orbit around us. And this thing was between the Moon and Earth!

That’s a fucking scary thing to think about. That we could of all died and not even know what happened until it was too late. But we didn’t! We’re still alive! Still, fear courses through my veins. Much like a tornado watch, or an earthquake.
It’s like everyday living now has more risks than it did before.

GTA4 completed. My thoughts

Finally “won” GTA4 today. Anyway, it’s been a rough ride from the start. In ways I wish I never bought it. Not to say I never want to play it again. But the few videos I’ve seen of GTA4 just wow’d me. How you could fly around in a helicopter. And crash though the windshield of a car and just get right back up.

I guess this was before I saw the world map. I didn’t expect everything to be connected by bridges, and have their own islands, that can only be “unlocked” by doing key missions. IMO the game got boring after that.
How I remember getting across the Algonquin Bridge and getting shot at. I made it all the way to the center of the city before I was killed. Couldn’t understand why I wasn’t allowed to go there. Yet I saw traffic and people over there.

I can only say the trainers I’ve used really helped me. I would’ve never completed it without them. Especially on some of the harry gun fights where I had to kill half a dozen enemies with little to no cover, and react within a moments notice.

The below has endgame spoilers. So don’t read if you haven’t played yet.

At the end, I let Roman live, and killed Dimitri, let Darko live, and killed Pegorini. Still I wonder if I made the right decisions. Helping out the mafia. Having to evade the police.

The ending in ways made no sense. Hell. The entire story made no sense. I tried my best to retrace my steps by using the walkthrough on gta4.net, and see who I killed, spared, and helped. At first I thought Pegorini was pissed, because I (as Niko) killed Dimitri, since he’s one of Dimitri’s men. Yet the same thing happens if you decide to work with Dimitri, except Roman dies and not Kate. So I just don’t know.
Pegorini was supposed to kill me and ends up killing someone I love by accident. I have no idea why there was so much hate. What did I do that pissed him off?

I actually thought the ending was based on some guy coming up to you and threatening to kill your cousin if you don’t kill Kate. Or giving you an option to kill Kate or Roman, much like the option of either killing Dwayne or Playboy X. Even before I got this game I thought this.

Well. What’s done is done. Yet I have the itch to play it again from the start. Even though I haven’t officially reached 100% in the game progress. The story is complete. But I still have to be social with people to keep rising that number.

Gmod, and why I don’t have a desire to play it anymore

I had thoughts of not making this entry since it was just going to be another, depressing blog entry. Or how to write it all down. But I finally decided to say it.

My lock up is not fixed. Only weakened substantially. Every four days or so, instead of frequently, I’ll be playing a game, and suddenly the screen will flash and freeze up.
However, this is not like the way my lock up was before. Only one time did it actually stop my graphics drivers from working and I had to restart.
Updating my drivers isn’t going to fix it. Again, it’s probably hardware-related. My CPU is the only culprit now.
All I can do is pray that it doesn’t get worse by the time I have enough to buy a new computer. At least this, less severe version of my lock up is more tolerable.
Unfortunately, all of my savings went to both fixing this lock up and on a new bike that I rarely use due to a fear of falling off of it and hurting myself badly. So it’s going to take me past 2010 to come up with enough.

Where was I? Oh yes. Why I don’t wanna play Gmod. Well. I’m sure you heard that it got fucked up by some strange reason of it lagging, and I was planning to reinstall Windows to fix it, thinking the new motherboard might be causing it. But I cannot find Page 1 of 2 of what I wrote down of how to reinstall properly, nor do I know where I left that Windows XP CD.

Another reason why I don’t wanna play Gmod is because, well actually I do. Just listen. I wanna re-re-rebuild my Nether Drake, but I have to go into WoW and get pictures of my dragon as references. But that means, having to worry about my fucking addons being outdated, and WoW is boring too.
I had pictures before, but apparently lost them in a reinstall of Windows. Irony?

Infact, all of my games are boring. I’ve been through this before. Game Depression. Too bored to play anything. It makes me… moody, to people that are having fun. Like in TF2. I’m so fucking sick of seeing people dressing up in Spy costumes and doing that stupid “spy crab” thing in public, just to get people laughing at them. And what’s worse, having TF2 music playing.
Fan videos that do this, suck. They should be embarrassed of themselves for being so obsessed over a game.

Even WoW, I wouldn’t be caught dead in a convention, in a Dwarf Hunter costume.

But I guess this comes with age. That my brain just wants me to do other things instead of play games all day. Like get a fucking job. Yet there’s people that have jobs, that still play these games when they get home from work.

.
Anyway, it took me weeks to break through it last time. May take longer this time.
“What causes game depression” you ask? It has to do with playing the same thing over and over again. Usually when I win a game, I put it away never to be touched again for a long time. Same as a movie on DVD.

Other games, I get frustrated when I hit a certain spot. Like in FarCry I’m in the area where if the person I’m protecting dies, I ‘die’, even with god mode on.

With The Sims 3, the desire to build houses has left me, and I don’t know why.

And back with WoW, It’s not only the fact I have to worry about my damn addons. It’s… I want to see if my new video card will support dual accounts.
But from what I’ve seen… I’ll never have what I did back then. The fact I can still see flashing issues, and the “green screen” issue in Youtube videos, and also videos in VLC media player are still fucked up. It’s like I wasted my money.

GTAIV: Day 6. What I’ve done and what irritates me

Ok. So it’s Day 6 since I got GTA4. So far I finally unlocked all islands, thanks in part to an “ingame” trainer I found on a site that has god mode and all of that good, helpful shit. Less frustration, right?

Wrong. This trainer cannot save it’s damn settings, and is a bitch to call up. I’m having to constantly fight to get the thing open.
Also, driving around is getting boring. I’m starting to go as fast as I can more often, especially on a bike and on those bridges and tunnels. Everytime I see a straight road with no cars infront of me, I slam on the gas pedal.
I’m starting to use boats and helicopters now to get around. And occasionally using the trainer to just teleport to where the mission is.

I’m also trying to go after these “flying rats”, or pigeons. Don’t know if they’re something from the previous GTA titles. But if you kill all 200 of them, you’ll get a Police Helicopter.
Bad thing is, these pigeons are in hard to reach areas of the map. There’s also six of them perched way up ontop of the Statue of Happiness(Statue of Liberty IRL). I tried spawning a police helicopter and fly up there. First time I tried landing on her head, didn’t work. Then I tried using the chopper’s guns to shoot the pigeons. All I did was scare the people down below shitless. Choppers are hard to keep steady.

.
But anyway. This is what is annoying me so far about this game.

First, this thing where it claims you can store your stolen (or spawned) cars by your safehouses. I find this a waste of time, actually. Because I’m often using the car to go to a place, where in some missions I have to get in another car and take it somewhere. And when I go back to where I think I left my car, on foot, it’s gone and I’m stuck with no car…
Why even have safehouses? They’re worthless to me.

I’m also in dire need of a “STFU!! Stop calling me to go somewhere!!” mod. Just something that will stop the “Hey man! Wanna play some pool?” when I’m busy going to a mission waypoint.
I’m always fucking busy with these people that can pay big. I don’t got time for friends. But I also want me time. I enjoy solitude.

For the missions. Most of them, I’m not really getting into the story as I need to. When I first started, I was. But now it’s just.. go to place, do mission, get money, call guy to confirm mission is done, repeat. Why am I the hitman for every single one of these missions? A hired gun. It just gets repetitive and old.

And I’m clueless to how the story is going. Infact I think I fucked up by being allowed to choose these missions, and not following any order as they are done. But this is what happens when you play non-linear games I guess. The story also is based of your choices. If you killed or spared this person or that person.

And another NPC annoyance. Kate. Packie’s sister or something. He doesn’t want me really getting to know her, yet she keeps wanting a date with me. Jailbait anyone? She’s pretty but the guy will kill me if I ever had sex with her.

Anyway, that’s pretty much what’s on my mind right now.

GTA4: My review

The Grand Theft Auto series is something I’ve never gotten into. Due to because of the gameplay. Stealing cars, sex, drugs and shit. Just not my type of game.

However, a few days ago, Garion got me into this game, convincing me that I don’t have to do the things the game is designed to do.
After finally finding the official site, I asked questions, got answers, but I still wasn’t sold. Garion once again answered my more important questions, and I bought it.

So far, it was worth the $50. First of all, it seems the game is based in the year 2008. The game is based in and around New York City, dividing the city sections into islands.

But due to the corruption in politics, and terrorism, the mayor of Liberty City, the name of the game world, has raised the terror threat level and closed down all bridges leading into the center of Manhattan.

As you advance through the game, the other islands will begin to be unlocked for you, giving you a less linear way of getting around, and more fun. Just how do you know, you may ask? Listen to the news!
Seriously, listen to the ingame news. Use a computer in one of the internet cafes to see the news, or listen to it on the radio in your car.
Eventually you’ll hear news that bridges have been reluctantly re-opened. This also gives you access to the subway routes on the other islands.

Well. That covers the unlocked areas. Lets talk about the pros and cons.

First, the pros;
+ Combat. The combat in the game is pretty good. You can duck behind cover and attempt to kill the guy without him killing you.
+ Realistic car damage, physics, and handling.
+ Jaw-dropping views of the city.
+ You can leave you car anywhere you want and visit the parks.
+ Radio Stations, plus a custom music station (Independence FM) that you can put your own mp3’s in. It even has it’s own commercials.
+ Police arrest NPC’s.
+ Subways.
+ Speedboats.
+ Variety of weapons.
————————————————–
And now, the Cons;
– You can drive everywhere, only if you advance through the game by doing missions. This is due to “terrorist threats”.
– The buddy system sucks. They won’t stop calling you, and there’s no way to say “I want to have some me time” except turning off your phone. Even then you still get text messages.
Plus, if you decide to pick up a friend to go somewhere, they expect you to be there within an hour, not fucking care you like obeying traffic laws. And no way to say “It’ll be awhile. I’m stuck in traffic.” What’s worse is if you accept while being on one side of the map, and the person’s on the other side of the map.
– Aggressive, but dumb AI drivers. They will attempt to pass you while waiting at a red light. Some will even get out of their car and yell at you, or pull you out and start a fight.
– Just loading the damn game. It HATES dual monitor users, and has a hard time saving your settings.
– Some buildings can only be entered when unlocked by doing missions.
– Body armor is hard to find, and is required for survival as you advance in the game.
– If you fail to complete a mission, you have to start from the beginning of it if you choose to redo it. This gets very annoying on long missions. Especially those that involve having to chase down a person in heavy traffic.

.
But, I guess I should be grateful for two things.
1. It hasn’t locked up on me.
2. It runs beautifully on mainly high graphics.

Celestia.. Spore’s Space Stage wannabe? You be the judge

I was browsing FP as I always do, and I come across a picture from this locked thread in General Discussion that was supposed to be posted in Fast Threads, about “if you could own a spaceship, what would you own?”.

As I skimmed down the page, I came across this picture of a ship infront of a planet, and this text about a “3-D Space Simulator”, and a site.
I checked out this thing. The site is called celestiamotherlode.net.
Inside is a link to this free Space Simulator.

This space simulator is alot like Spore’s Space Stage. Because that you can go to any star in our galaxy… even stars in other galaxies, except the Spore part.
The fact, planets revolve and go around their suns in real-time. And the fact you can fly past planets in your “spaceship”.
Sadly, you cannot go through the atmosphere of a planet and see it up close and personal like you can in Spore.

But you can zoom out all the way to see where you are in our galaxy, and you’ll be overwhelmed that you’re not in the center of the galaxy. You’re only a tiny spec if anything out there.

Thing is, by moving out of your/any galaxy, it shows no stars beyond it. Just… a black nothingness.
Why? It’s only what we humans know about our galaxy. I guess anyway.

.
It just makes you think “what if”. What if there was a planet of dragons, called Drakkin? I’d probably shit my pants if I ever found it.

Poll: Should this blog be turned into a Benie’s Builds update blog?

I’ve been thinking since I posted my… health in this blog for everyone to see, that maybe some things aren’t met to be seen online.

That’s why I’m wondering if I should make this blog to only have news about the site, and turn the WoW and Wurm blogs, into a Game blog. But it’s up to you guys.
So the “poll” will just be the replies of this blog.
One reason is I feel I have too many blogs.

You have until I get unbanned on Facepunch (the 8th) to voice your opinion on this.
