Hi, I’m a typical Thursday morning! Oh, what’s that at the door!? Why it’s your parts, coming a day early! Open the box, ooh, shiny new red motherboard and CPU Cooler (that better fit this time)! Surely the tech guy could get them in before Satur– ohh.. he can’t? Wait.. MONDAY morning he’ll get them in?! IS HE SERIOUS?! Ok, he set it to Saturday morning.
Guess that’s better. Could still change to Monday. Guess you should tell the LST you won’t make it for the meetup (as you’ll be too busy reinstalling everything.. again).
….
Karma sucks, man. Here I was planning on the off-chance he wouldn’t be able to do it Friday (as the parts were supposed to come tomorrow, but they decided to give it to me a day earlier). So I figure he would possibly do it Saturday (which is the same day I go to the grocery store (typically is Sunday, but it’s going to be a washout with really heavy rain..not the best weather to be driving in)).
So, yeah. But at least it beats either having to wait ’till June, or ’till September.
There’s one thing I gotta say, though, and that’s the wording of the box the CPU Cooler is in. On one side of it, I don’t like how it’s using words like “Extreme Efficiency” and “Infinite RAM Compatibility”…come ON, enough with the “I’m a gamer, look at the size of my RAM, baby” lingo! I get that silly shit enough with Discord everytime I boot it up.
So anyway, I’ve also been thinking, and contemplating about installing the hardware myself (which would officially be my first ever PC build). There are detailed step-by-step tutorials on Youtube, teaching beginners (like myself) of how to build a PC. But since how hardware and towers vary from system to system, I doubt any of them would be able to help me.
What I need is a hands-on approach. Aka, someone standing over my shoulder IRL and making sure I’m doing it right the first time.
No one in my family knows how to build a computer.. which leaves me with very little knowledge. I mean, I know how to install RAM and a GPU, but I’ve never installed a motherboard (or installed the CPU) and then make sure all the cables are in the right holes (plus there’s also the ‘fun’ task of cable management).
I’ve seen enough tutorials to get the idea to install the CPU (lifting a few levers to access it, making sure the arrow on the motherboard matches the arrow on the CPU (for proper install), how to grab the CPU (green is good, pins are bad, white top is also bad), gently place it in and give it a little wiggle to make sure its in, then put the levers back in place.

Thermal Paste (before adding the cooler) is another thing. The application seems to vary (and this has suspicions of being the reason why my CPU is overheating). One person tells you to put a little paste in the middle, gently making a circle for about 10 seconds..while another tells you to start from the top of the CPU, and run a thin line of paste down the middle(’till it reaches the bottom). Which one is the correct application? Does it even matter? ..Did I even buy good thermal paste? I mean the guy said it’s “not good”.

But the cooler, here I was watching a video about this guy teaching his hot wife how to build a computer (while drunk out of his mind)…and the wife had to use, what I could describe as an Erector Set wrench! SERIOUSLY?! Building a PC is an adult job, and you give us a TOY WRENCH to install a CPU Cooler?!?! Wow. Just, wow.
Anyway, I dunno. Just thinking out loud. Plus it’s only a few days until I have it done professionally (but even that, I’m starting to question..since this overheating issue started).
Building a PC(or doing nothing), may be my only option in the near future.
