The time has come to finally explore Release. Gotta have something to do while waiting for three days. However, instead of going right to exploring, Saint was shockingly online. I expected him to be offline ’till Monday.
Started off the conversation (while heading for my boat) with “Please wish your son a Happy Birthday from a complete stranger, alright?” And then, I just had to ask him.. of just why he feels the mapping job I did isn’t good enough, and he finally confessed that I didn’t do the height of the back roads (and the hills). I told him I would get to it this Monday. But I didn’t end it there. I said “if this is also about the hills, I’m sorry but I didn’t like the houses being here. Infact I was going to level them down”.
Next thing I know, he says to send him the map and he started getting to work (while I’m exploring the server). The point of moving there was to avoid living on a hill.
So as I’m trying to get some pictures at anything cool (as I’m going along the West coast of the server), I’m having to talk to him (and look at whatever plans he comes up with) at the same time. Got a bit chaotic, trying to get my mouse cursor to a certain point (so I can get a pic at the name that pops up with the mouseover).
Most of the trip (up to the point I had to set up camp near a guard tower) was pretty uninteresting (in terms of anything cool). Usually I would be logging off and doing something else (while paying attention to WurmClock for when the needle showing Sol’s position hits between 4-5), but I’m talking to Saint. While this is going on, I see a sailboat going by in the darkness. It’s the same person I met when I first arrived in Release, asking “did you find your friend?” I said Yes, then ask them what they’re doing sailing this late. Person says that they’re trying to get to the South coast. I have to state the bad news, of that they’re on the North coast instead.
Saint says he has to log off while during this, and does so. The person thanks me, and continues going West. Then I log out. I take this time to do a few adjustments to the plan.
One of these, is quite sentimental to me. And that is to dedicate the 2nd bridge that boats would be going under to enter the main point of the area, to.. Emeriss the Ferocious. I’ve seen a few bridges using ‘Something Memorial Bridge’ and I decided to call this one ‘Emeriss the Ferocious Memorial Bridge’. It’s not a gravesite, it’s a bridge named after her.
However…I have just recently learned there’s a character limit of 40 characters for a bridge(similar to naming a structure), and after counting(including spaces), I’ll be three characters short of the limit! That is fantastic news. Thank goodness.
Another change, is he originally tried to fill up empty spaces with farms. After a lot of thinking, I decided to have only one farm be behind ‘B2’s Diner’. I also discovered that I can squeeze in (for the first time), a 3×7 area for livestock (cows/pigs/chickens/bulls, etc). How well that idea will work, who knows.
Sol’s finally heading up and I log back in. I’m quite happy with the results of the map and I get in my boat and sail off, not even realizing I just forgot something very important (until later on). Now on the NE coast, I wave at a few people who say hi back. One of them asks if I’m ‘just passing through’. I told them I was just exploring. The person tells me a few places to visit, and I thank them (while trying to go around this bay to continue following the coast). Then the person asks if I’m looking for a place to live. I told the person that I have a deed back at Indy.
Their response is “that’s on another server right”. And I’m saying to myself “kick on it KICK ON IT!!” (telling my boat to go faster to get this guy out of my local).
An idea pops into my head, and I say “let’s say that Indy is my home”. As soon as I get finished typing it and send, the guy leaves my local (and never tries to PM me).
That was close.
I get a bit lost, using the world map as a guide to path my exploration route around a few islands and to also get to the mainland (so I can try to see everything there is to see). Finally find the bridge I’m looking (the same bridge I saw as B2 before he went South to pick me up). and start following the island around. I start to studder, see a deed that looks strangely familiar..and all the sudden a rush of memories hit me. THIS is near where Tulsi was (of trying to get him to be taught by someone else)!!
And sure enough, the deed was there. It didn’t look (at all) different from when I first arrived to pay Tulsi a visit. Since Saint was still offline, I had to wait to ask if he knew Ultradude (and if the guy is nice). Again, at the time, I didn’t trust anyone with ‘recruiter’ in their name.
Finally around the island, I head to the mainland. This time I’m using the community map (as it shows canals). Took this one canal into ‘Trigorn Tarn’.. what the heck is a ‘Tarn’? “A small mountain lake” says Wikipedia. Learn something new everyday.
The NW section of this ‘tarn’ really…REALLY caught my attention. Holy fuck did it! Someone built a wooden bridge, from the ground…to SCALE A FUCKING CLIFF FACE!! I saw other bridges that looked like they were connected to the top of this mountain cliff. OHH DAMN I want to go up there SO BADLY! The view must be KILLER!!! 😀
…If I only had a horse, I would had just said “fuck everything, I have GOT to get up there! OHH BABY!”
Passing by the really cool thing, I continue following the coastline. Was hearing tons of fire sounds playing..which means lava spiders are around. Sure enough, the grand one of them all (a champion lava spider)0 sitting on the wall. Decided to just leave it alone. I don’t purposely go after mobs unless they’re in my way (or have pissed me off that I want to kill the next mob I see).
Left that area (through the same canal I entered) and followed the coastline South. As I near the end of it, there were two bridges to the right of me (yet both crossing in the same place). Took one of them and tried to go enroute to a place called ‘Lotus Landing'(which claims has a market). Sol is also going down at this time, but I still had enough light to see where I’m going..right into a ridiculously-long landbridge (that did show up on the map)…why is this stupid thing existing?! The wind shifted to the Southwest, making me slower (I swear it knows which way I’m heading and the best way to troll me).
Finally arrive at the spot, and it looked completely deserted. The ‘market’, all there was left was two stalls (with one having a trader). There was a raised up area ahead of me, but all attempts to get up there are blocked by gates. Whatever. Saw a guard tower nearby (with a gate infront of it), and I’m praying this too isn’t locked, and thankfully it wasn’t.
Time to put my tent do– wait a minute. Why is the spot in my toolbar of where I keep my tent, empty? Suddenly, it comes rushing at me. I FORGOT TO GRAB MY FUCKING TENT!!
FUUUUUUCK!!…Luckily, I remembered the spot I dropped my tent, there’s a road going South that goes to more water. I was able to worm my way back up and got to the other side of the road. Got into my cloth gear in order to run faster..spider shows up out of nowhere, forcing me to re-gear to kill it. There was a tower nearby, but I’ve discovered since the latest updates, guards are having pathing issues.
One time (while I was still by my tent before) I called guards to deal with a wolf (something I can kill easily, but was too far to bother), I watched one of the guards go into the run animation, into the idle animation (right infront of me). Obviously, they’re bugged out. They used to respond more efficiently before, but apparently the Wurm devs don’t see this being important enough to fix. 😛
I’m just glad I have 71FS(almost 72), and can defend myself from nearly everything out there (including trolls).
Got my tent and went back to my boat. It’s night, but luckily I knew how to get back..or so I thought. I ended up passing what was a market(due to hardly any lights on the shoreline). Arriving, I helped myself to a total of 11 empty large crates, sitting right on the shoreline for anyone to take. Score!! Not only will these be useful in the future, I won’t have to make more crates! Win-win right there.
Got out of my boat, went over to the tower, slapped my tent down (telling myself NOT to forget it when I log back in prior to Solrise this time…) and logged out.
While I was off, I started thinking of good name for the area (where my future deed might be). I went over Saint’s suggestions, and suggestions I got from Lathe(of putting ‘Sunshine’ in the name), and I believe I’ve come up with a pretty good name..
‘Dragontail Hideaway’. Saint wasn’t on, so I couldn’t ask his opinion on the name. I just like how it rolls off the tongue. Plus, the name can have lore to it, such as a dragon is running away from being hunted, finds this place, settles down, dies of old age, and its tail becomes the ‘canal’ (aka, becomes a part of the land). Of course, what happened to the rest of its body? And how could a dragon’s tail become a canal? Was it a water-based dragon?
Mmm..it’s really all I can think of in such short notice. I can always change the name in the future if I don’t like it.
Came back on, and continued exploring the bay of ‘Lough Scaith’. Someone familiar popped in my local, digging away at clay. That someone was Saint. I waved at him, but he just kept mindlessly digging away as if he was a robot. He was either AFK, or not wanting to say anything to avoid unleashing the pure hate he had for this. Just kept going, following the coastline. Nothing real interesting on this side of the server.
Swung around to the East coast of Release, following the coast. Eventually..I got to the spot where B2 had to pick me up in order to ‘rescue me’. As promised, I docked and went up the roads to get to Saint’s place in order to see the progress. Had to outrun a crock (with no horse, I didn’t really want to risk it).
And he’s been quite busy. His place is still a mess, but it looks better than when I first saw it. Most of the exterior walls are complete. I also noticed his alt in my local, and hearing the sounds of foraging/botanizing. So this is his ‘secret’ of how he does it; he uses his alt instead of himself for that task! He responded, first saying it was no secret and he already told me. I said “you never told me you use your alt to do it”. He says the reason why is he’s waiting for his Favor to rise, then disappears from Local.
I’m thinking “a likely story…” So that’s something I could have B2 do, if I decide to move to the new spot. Quite the brilliant idea.
Headed back to my boat to continue the trip. Sol’s going down as I left the port here. Spent too much at Saint’s place. Got to the South coast and tried to plot an exploration path around the many islands here. Unfortunately, some of these where going to be on my left side. Eventually I was forced to rest at Snake Island, infront of a guard tower on a deed called ‘Shamflam Pizzaplace’. Decided to get a few pictures before Sol finally went down. All three of Wurm’s moons are in the sky this night. Sirus and Valrei are infront of me, following Sol’s ark, and Jackal is behind me, being fully luminated by Sol. Since it was a deed, I couldn’t throw my tent down. But since I didn’t have a horse, this wasn’t a problem.
The next day came, and the wind has shifted to a South light breeze. Just great. and I followed Snake Island (including the big island) around. Eventually I reached the bridge I originally went under to get to Saint for the first time. I could see why Saint said this was an eyesore, and he was right. Infact, it’s not even needed. The bridge goes..nowhere.
Back on the main land (following the inner East coast of the South Sea). Passed under a bridge I remembered before (and not really seeing anything interesting), I eventually got to where I remembered Saint dropping me off in his Caravel. Got off and tried to follow the roads I remembered following up to his place. Suddenly, I felt I had egg on my face. If I had just went West a bit, then turned North at the 4-way intersection, I would had made it back to his boat. However, that wouldn’t get back to mine. While back at the spot, I spotted an old horse in the distance. Decided to grab it and take it with me.
Passing back under the bridge, I continued to follow the coast..soon I arrived at his old place. Holy wow. ALL I would’ve had to do was follow the coast and I would’ve made it back to my boat?!?! Ugh. Pfft..I’m no explorer. A true explorer goes everywhere, and anywhere. They don’t need a map. But at least now I know how to get there. I don’t feel ‘lost’ anymore. Passed by a lot of Saint’s alliance members’ deeds, on my way to the cave canal to get to Spawn Lake. In one deed, there was a fuckton of Cogs, Corbitas, and Caravels.
Finally I reach the canal, going only 12.02km/h. Was quite painful. Came out of the canal, following it on the right. Passed by the deed of ‘Shadowwolf’, one of Saint’s friends. Outside of their deed, I saw two horse statues near the store. I debated if I should take them. Discussed it with Saint, who says “they’re completely worthless and take about 5 seconds to make”..yeah, sure, Mr ‘High Mason’. 😛 To rub it in my face more, he said he hopes to get to 80 Masonry by the time he completes his deed.
Sol’s going down yet again, and I feel I have yet to get to Sloping Sands. I tell Saint I hope to get there before Solset, yet I’ve circled the entire shoreline and can’t find it! Looking closer at the map, I head back up North (slow as can be with a light breeze). A spot I was before, that I assume was blocked off…was actually accessible. It’s now night by the time I arrive at the spot, then log out.
The next morning…fog is developing. Instead of Sol burning the fog away, it seems to maintain its thickness for the longest time that I can ever remember seeing fog. Just then, the Event tab flashes showing “A new rift is reported!” I tell Saint if this is the reason for the fog not going away, and he says he doesn’t know, but strongly suggest I go do the Rift event. Ahaha..right. Not after all the horror stories I heard. The risks outweigh the benefits (to me).
The fog persisted, looking out it was thinning slightly and then thickening back up. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The starter deed had a bell in it, and I decided to ring it. I was curious what would happen (thinking it might even ‘scare’ the fog away). All it did was cause 0.08 damage on it.. fuck. Managed to repair the bell, and stopped using it. I didn’t know ringing it, increased the damage. I’ve never used one before. Saint had logged off at this time, so I was on my own.
It took until past noon game time until the fog finally started to slowly dissipate enough for me to see. I didn’t had time to watch it fully go away, as I lost so much time because of it. I left Spawn Lake via the cave canal, back into the South Sea and continued following the coastline (only going 11.76km/h.. I HATE light breezes as much as I hate gales in my face. The wind mechanic in Wurm is so unpredictable). I passed by where Saint first dropped me off and we went up to his castle.
After a good hour and a half later, I reached the ‘Black Market Trading Company’. Yay, the black market. I should find some damn good deals on questionable merchandise here! Well, I -would- IF..they had traders (which they had none). There were two people in my local here who I asked where the traders are. Neither of them knew, so I just explored this large deed. After finding no traders, I headed back to my boat. One of the two responded saying “No more shops, indeed”.
I felt I had to be ‘the first’ to state that the owner needs to change the icon on the community map to no longer show it’s a market, then headed West into another canal that will take me to ‘Mercury Lake’. I’m thinking “ohh great, so if I go for a swim, I’ll die of mercury poisoning?”
Sol is going down ‘early’ this time, thanks to that damn fog earlier. I explored what I can, getting concerned I wasn’t seeing a guard tower (this time, I have a horse).
Finally I arrived at the northern most point of the lake, seeing a tower on the shoreline (and a troll in the hills). Got guards on the troll as I approached the coast, not wanting that clubbing fucker to come down here and grief me.
Near me is a large cart, named in a very interesting way; ’02Jan2k16RedDragon’. Was there a red dragon here on January 2nd, 2016? Heck if I know(don’t think I was on Wurm at the time). I decided not to ask the locals, feeling that would be embarrassing (also didn’t bother looking inside the cart. Probably would’ve been empty).
I couldn’t get to the troll to assist the guards, because of the steep terrain. I had to go around the hill, and by doing so, lesser mobs (spider/wolf/scorp) awaited me. Killed them all, and got to the troll..no recipe. :/
Decided to butcher the guard’s corpse that was here (to piss off Vynora more), then set down camp and logged out..for the completion of Day 1.
