What could’ve been ‘Half-Life 2: Episode 3’, revealed

Does anyone still remember Half-Life 1, the EP’s, 2, and the episodes? Of course you do. Anyone that was born in the 90’s, remembers playing the first Half-Life, and how it became a huge hit (even becoming Game of the Year).
And then happened Half-Life 2: Episode 2, and possibly the most depressing ending in modern video game history (the music captured it the best). Yet it also left one hell of a cliffhanger, that has lasted for over a decade of waiting ‘patiently’ for Episode 3 to at least be unveiled.
Valve said that it was “coming soon”, yet that’s all they did. Some theorized if this means “Half-Life 3 confirmed” (which started the meme that tried to keep our sanity (and hope) that there would be at least something). But as the years went by (and people noticed that Valve doesn’t need to make games anymore to get money (via Steam)), faith was being lost, yet this didn’t stop the meme.

Yesterday, it seems the wait is finally over. The main writer of the entire series (Mark Laidlaw) has released a transcript revealing what could’ve been Half-Life 2: Episode 3, through Gordon Freeman’s eyes.
Originally, this thing was on his blog, and he had it ‘encoded’ to change the genders and names of the characters (such as ‘Dr. Mass'(as Dr. Mossman), and ‘Elly Vaunt'(as Eli Vance). Some theorize he did this so Valve “wouldn’t see it” (and also to avoid legal trouble).
Others managed to easily decode the script, with one of them being the link I posted.

There’s a lot to be learned here, especially how he (as Gordon) explains what he saw while onboard the Borealis (and what happened to this strange ship able to transport through time and space, using portals). How it also showed the past, present and future at the same time. It’s all very interesting.
And just like the end of Episode 2, this also ends with a cliffhanger. However, not the way you would expect. He says he got flung into the future, and hardly anyone remembers him. And then he ends it stating: “this is my final episode.”

Since the release of this thing, theories began to emerge of it’s possible meaning (via Youtube videos). Though I could never understand why the hate people have for Valve to the point some say “we should boycott Steam”.
This didn’t come ’till a week later, when Youtuber ‘YongYea’ went over it as brief as he could, with his own theories. Having him staring at me, I feel helped me to finally understand the hate. As I just said, I never saw it (until now).
The ending of the transcript, where Mark says “I expect you know better than I the appropriate course of action, and I leave you to it.” (which was ‘backed up’ by a tweet made the day after posting the script), he’s basically saying he’s ‘passing the torch’ to anyone willing to either use his work to formerly ‘release’ Episode 3, or even make an unofficial non-canon version of Half-Life 3 (as Valve seems to not be interested).
That’s pretty sad. They’ve gone the route so many other companies have gone; greed first, customers never.

But, this news isn’t going to stop me from buying games on Steam. Valve only controls Steam, and gets a portion of the profits. However, they have no control over the developers willing to release their game on Steam (which is where the money is supposed to be going to). Of course, this means good games (not ones made in five minutes using Unity).
If they did, I’m pretty sure devs would simply stop using Steam. Since they have not, I’m not changing either.

In the closing of this blog post, kudos to Mark Laidlaw for posting this. You’re a good man, and God bless.
So, what about you? Do you feel the Half-Life series is dead, and has this also convinced you to stop using Steam (as a dev or as a consumer)? Let me know with an email.

So much for an ME:A DLC, the single player campaign is dead

It’s been officially announced that EA has ‘pulled the plug’ on the single player campaign of Mass Effect Andromeda. This simply means, no more updates(DLC’s and Hotfixes) will be released for the single player side of the game. I guess we could play the blame game here, of who’s fault was it that lead up to this. Bioware, or reviewers.
Clearly, I put the blame on Bioware. If they had just put more effort (eg, fixing bugs) before the release, rather than after, I’m pretty sure the initial reviews of the game wouldn’t be as cynical as they are.
Plus I heard the company that made the game (Bioware Montreal), wasn’t even part of the series (as the original company that did, left quietly). And now this company has shut down.

Yet the game isn’t completely dead, as Multiplayer content (and its microtransactions) are still strong. There’s also comic books and novels (one to go over the never to be released Quarian DLC).
Still, this is quite sad (yet it’s also not a big surprise). I feel the great frustration of a lot of players who paid the $60, only to feel they got ripped off. I hope they at least got their money back. Yet there are also the people that bought it despite the negative reviews, and actually found it quite good in their opinion.
Even I, didn’t find the game that terrible (after they managed to fix a lot of the bugs). However, I’ll have to admit, I’ve already forgotten most of it. Unlike the series, there wasn’t any ‘bromance’ feeling of your teammates (like Garrus or Wrex, teammates that you feel always have your back).

Though I wonder just how long it’ll take until players start to get tired of ME:A’s multiplayer (to the point they’ll feel they’re getting milked by EA).
To close out this post, I refuse to say the game will never see the light of day (given a few years passing). I feel some other company might decide to take over, and finally give that Quarian Ark DLC we’ve been waiting for.
Then again, who knows?

.
EDIT: Some big news has happened (heard from a few videos). Even though the SP campaign is dead, the franchise isn’t. Bioware and even EA have said they don’t want the series to end. They also said they’ve learned from their mistakes (in a way). EA goes on by saying the game was “over-criticized”. Nah, I doubt that. More like overhyped. Plus, they could had easily helped Bioware fund the game to make it better before launch. Instead, they did their ‘EA thing’ and told Bioware to rush the game out the door. Because making an early sale is more important to making sure this game meets the same signature standards as the series.
We probably won’t know until another 5-10 years have passed, of what they might be working on next (as they have other IPs to work on). Though EA claims that when another ME title comes, that they must make sure that they “bring it back in a really [relevant] way, and in a fresh, exciting place.”

I pray this doesn’t mean ‘Mass Effect Andromeda 2’. But, we shall see as the years go by.

‘Benie’s Video Game Reviews Blog’ is GO!

Yesterday I came home from watching the total solar eclipse (went down into the path of totality, you can read the whole thing here in my General blog), I got a response from Arvixe, saying that they aren’t able to reproduce the problem I’m having. So great, it’s on my end. Spent a week just to know this.
I had an idea to try to launch Internet Explorer and see if it would work there, and sure enough it is. The Customizer is working just fine (yet not in Firefox).
Wow. …. Wow. Okay, this is…good? I guess I should be happy. But really, it isn’t that big of a deal to use the virus-ridden browser that is IE (just for this).

Told them thanks for helping to look into the issue, and said to close it. Managed to get all my settings moved into the new blog, and have started the process of manually, painfully copy-pasting reviews over to the new blog.
What’s the most painful, isn’t attempting to filter what is and isn’t a review, but how I started doing them. Wow, what a mess. Not helpful at all to the reader. I almost have the right mind to rewrite a lot of these into the current format. I already slightly rewritten my Ether One review (where it won’t be just a spoiler).

Once they’re all in, I’ll delete the old posts and announce in here (with a link) that everything’s good.

.
EDIT: Almost done manually moving the PS4 reviews over. The PC Reviews will likely take more time (as there are understandably more of them). Yesterday I took a break, but today I’m back at work on it.

EDIT2: Finally DONE! Started this project last week, and it’s now done.
You can find the link to the new blog by going here. I’m already working on my next review. Once I got that published, I will be manually deleting the original blog off of here (plus I got to change any links I might come across in the process).

Trying to play LEGO Worlds on PC (properly) is a headache

Fantastic way to ‘celebrate’ the first few hours of my birthday, huh?
Why, oh why, did they go with a hardcoded keybind setup? Even in 2015, rebinding keys in a video game was a thing. What the hell were they smoking when they came up with this boneheaded move?
Now I wouldn’t really be complaining if I was part of the ‘WASD master race’. Yet, I’ve always found moving my character around with the arrow keys, much better on my hands. Though I wonder if it’s part of the curse of being a Leftie. Sadly, I am.
“Hello, my name is Benie. And I’m left-handed.”
Crowd: “Hi, Benie!”
So yeah, you folks heard it here. Not ashamed of it too.

Nearly all day yesterday, I’ve either been waiting for someone in the AutoHotkey forum to kindly give me a script to circumvent this bullshit, or try to figure out how to hook up my PS4 controller to my computer. Decided to go with the latter, and I’m kind of regretting it.

The program I used in the past (‘InputMapper'(or ‘IM’ for short)) is still available. Latest version is 1.6.10. Installed it and got prompted to install the files to enumerate my controller to be an XBox controller.

Hooked up the USB cable and connected my controller, and started having issues with read errors (and this strange error about being unable to go into Exclusive Mode due to ‘Win 10 AU’). Since I have Windows 7, I don’t see how that relates to me. Yet this was also disconnecting and reconnecting the controller, making it quite pointless to use.
Now what’s odd is some times I manage to get it working with no errors whatsoever, and manage to play the game with the controller. It’s quite awesome, and since I memorized the controls, I know how to use it. Yet this didn’t stop the issues from resurfacing.
It got to the point where I felt I must’ve downloaded a Windows 10 only version (even though it never showed what Windows versions are supportive).

Tried downgrading to an earlier version, and that seemed to have worked…only to have another issue pop up. This was in the game. Now any button I press, seems to activate co-op mode causing a clone of myself to popup in split-screen (claiming I have a second controller). This clone also mimics what I do. No matter what I try doing, the problem persists.
I was forced to create an account with the IM forum. After waiting several hours for a response, I get a quite fragmented one that clearly didn’t read the entire post. After having several back and forth conversations with this person, they now feel blaming the USB cable instead of IM is the answer.

Turns out all of that time, I accidentally confused the person with them thinking there was an issue on my end(with the USB cable). I responded with an apology, and how I should had been a lot clearer with my words. That’s what frustration does, though.
Hopefully this will be resolved soon. Personally I feel that if I keep trying the earlier versions, until I find one that doesn’t give the Windows 10 thing (and doesn’t create a clone ingame). The best of both problems fixed.

.
EDIT: Perfect timing. On my birthday of all days, and I have these issues. Even with the latest version, I’m still getting a clone of myself. And I believe I know why.
By having it in ‘Shared Mode’, the game sees the controller as ‘Player 2’ and creates the clone of me. It even states Exclusive Mode stops ‘double input’.
But since I’m unable to use Exclusive Mode… wow. I just can’t have nice things.

EDIT2: I think I got it!! The answer was right there infront of me, but I was too blind to see it! It clearly states Exclusive Mode cannot work while Steam is running. So I tried shutting Steam down, running IM, and then running Steam…and I got no errors!
Steam is trying to take control, and this is interfering with Exclusive Mode. Making IM ‘higher priority’ than Steam, seems (so far) to make the two work in harmony. I’ve been playing for at least an hour, and had NONE of the issues I had before! I’m continuing to test, and really liking the results.
Also to note.. so far, I haven’t had the lag issues I’ve seen on the PS4 version. Levels load a lot faster.. the only thing I don’t like is the horizontal black bars that pop up during loading screens (they block the loading percentage).

LEGO Worlds (Story Mode) ‘completed’, thoughts

Now I wouldn’t fully say “completed”, but I feel like I reached the stage that I’m now bored with it. I’ve gotten the 100 bricks and became a Master Builder. Decided to follow a walkthrough, and surprisingly I did better than the guy did– uncovering over seven towns (he’s only seen two). Though I have yet to see a Wild West town. He really lucked out there.
I’ve also done a few of the dungeons.. yet damn from certain angles the FPS drops to near 10(to where it was near unplayable). Better optimization is needed for the PS4 version.
But what really made me tear away from it, is him going from 40 gold bricks in the previous episode, to 69 gold bricks the next (with absolutely no explanation of how he got 29 bricks between episodes). Finally it hit me, that it really doesn’t matter what biome one gets, as long as gold bricks are collected. People in the comments section also helped me personally figure out what all the beam colors mean. When I finally figured out that green means a quest, I started racking up the Studs (and the bricks) until I had more than he did.
Finally got my 100th and became a Master Builder, with the ability to create my own worlds (using the biomes I found). I can also customize it further, only allowing certain NPCs, mobs, and vehicles to spawn (though this doesn’t affect quest givers..learned that the hard way).

I also went through the troublesome questline to finally start seeing dragons walking around on their hind legs and doing their dragon things (wrecking every mob and person they come across(including me)).
They’re also the only animal-based mob that uses ranged attacks as their primary means of attack (the Dragon Wizard(required to unlock the dragons) does as well), yet they’re not hesitant to tailwhip you if you get too close. And DAMN do they hit hard to the point it’s hilariously OP! They take away 5 hearts every attack, and can only be defeated with Crystal weapons (and can be befriended/purchased with either Steak or a Drumstick).
There are seven colored dragons (they’re all a recolor of the original) to unlock, two of them using the base materials of life (Fire(Red) and Water(Blue)) while the others (Snow(White(I assume is the original base color)), Night(Black & Red), Forest(Green), Candy(Purple), and Gold) are related to their respected biomes. The Golden Dragon (in the past) was able to be acquired without starting the questline(has been since patched). It’s also the most expensive thing that can be purchased (a million Studs), while the others cost half a million Studs to purchase.

Getting them unlocked as I mentioned, is a quite frustrating questline. The main frustration is right at the beginning, and this frustration is directed at old 4-5 month (some even a year old) guides. You must find the ‘Spooky Girl’ on a certain biome, using a specific coordinate (163-193-103 D). Make sure the ‘D’ is there.
After doing her quest of giving her some mushrooms and a pot to do her research in, she gives you a red crystal.
So surely you feel this is getting somewhere, right? Well it gets better. Then you need to go to another biome and find a Jewel Thief who’s carrying a Dino Bone and wants the red crystal for it. Holy fuck, a dino bone? How does this have to do with dragons? Well..
Then in another biome, is a dino researcher who will trade the bone…for a water pistol. Okay, then. Water Gun. Dino Bone. Red crystal. Don’t see how this has anything to do with dragons. Well this is when things get interesting.

Next, is a fisherman who has found, a fire dragon egg and wants the water pistol for it. OHH DUDE!!! HERE WE GO!! Give this to the Dragon Wizard and have it hatch!
And then finally, is the Dragon Wizard. He must be defeated for him to accept the egg, and then….it stops. WTF?! All of that, and no dragons?!
The surprise is coming, and it pays off. The player must make a Huge world of the same biome, and find the Dragon Wizard as a quest giver. This time he knows the player’s intentions and wants to help the player summon the dragons(starting with the Fire Dragon), but needs lots of help (and items) to do it. Some of these items will require to revisit other worlds (as the narrator has stated to the player) if they don’t have these items.
The final item was a real Pita for me. The wizard felt the dragon wanted a large cupcake for it to show up, which requires to look in treasure chests…and the RNG is hellish. 9 of the chests I got all gave me an Electric Torch, another two gave me Dynamite. Finally I had it and was able to place the cupcake down. Once completed, he gave me a Dark Dragon Egg and the quest was completed.

Part of this quest, had dance floors (where I started dancing). About a few minutes later, I saw it. The Fire Dragon showing up in the distance behind me! Immediately I ran over and hopped on for the ride of my life. It can lob fireballs, like a fire-based dragon should. Except when the fireball lands, it creates lava around the edges, dealing extra damage. If the blast doesn’t kill anyone within the radius, the lava will. So badass.
The dragons also have a really cute, adorable idle animation that they’ll flop on their ass and relax, see their tail and just like a dog, try to catch it. I couldn’t imagine the motion sickness of that in first person (even though the camera is locked and doesn’t follow the mount’s movement, probably to assist with just that(preventing motion sickness)).
While tamed, they’ll also curl up into a ball and sleep.

Though, there is one thing I don’t like about this, and I wish this would be fixed (and it really irks me seeing this done in video thumbnails), that when I spawn a dragon, it will immediately take off and leave me before I have a chance to react(just like the Eagle). The fact the same button to mount is bound to the ‘quick tool’ button (which also activates the tool wheel when held down), I have no chance to hop on before it’s gone.
Plus I discovered, they’re quite feral and really hate eachother (even the same color). Creating a world where only dragons roam around, and it’s all-out chaos! My controller is wildly vibrating of every fireball being lobbed, and watching like 5 dragons attempting to kill eachother. It’s crazy!
So how in the hell do I see tamed, calm dragons together in these thumbnails? I see no players mounting them.

.
So that’s all about dragons in this game. I personally wish they gave them scales, but since it’s LEGO, it’s to be expected.
Moving on, there’s an issue I’ve been running into with dungeons (to the point I downright just avoid them). It isn’t the heavy studdering, but having the only treasure chest that’s supposed to always be giving a Gold Key, is giving random items instead. I pray someone has already reported this issue to them and they’re working on a fix. But this pretty much breaks dungeons, preventing the final treasure chest that requires said Gold Key to unlock and open.
The night trader sells the gold keys thankfully, but like everything else she sells, it’s RNG-based.

And that’s about it with this post. I’m still trying to get the Reviews blog up and running (as I have two more reviews to do this month, one of them will be a mini-review). Hopefully before my birthday, will I have it. However, I doubt it. I feel these issues are more serious than I’m thinking (then again could be the result of WordPress’ latest update).
It’s not really the end of the world if I can’t fully customize the blog, though.

‘We Happy Few’ coming to the PS4. Have you taken your Joy?

[Bad Welsh Acting]Howdy, ‘govna? Have you taken your Joy? No?! DOWNER!! WE GOT A DOWNER HERE!![/Bad Welsh Acting]
Yeah that was weak. I couldn’t really think of anything. Anyway, the happy dystopian city of Wellington Wells, welcomes PS4 owners who have taken their Joy. Because everything’s all rainbows and happiness, right? If you don’t take your Joy, you’re a Downer. And you don’t wanna be a babbling Downer who’s barely living on moldy bread and being in deplorable conditions.
This used to be an XBox Exclusive, but now Sony’s bringing it to the PS4 and I cannot wait.

The set release date (as it stands at the time the official release video came out) is….
April 13th, 2018. This might change due to time constraints.
And of course there are pre-order gifts.. yet these actually don’t suck. Not only does it claim you’ll save 15% off the asking price, but you’ll get the ‘Jolly Brolly’ (an umbrella that can be used as a weapon). Not bad. Not bad at all.
Anyway, I said how “I can’t wait” for this. Well, I also forgotten that this thing has a survival mechanic similar to The Long Dark (from what I’ve seen in playthroughs), having to eat, drink, make sure you’re not too wet and stuff. Just a lot of micro-managemement. I’ll still review the game (once Gamefly sends me a review copy), but that’s all I’m going to do. Though I might also take advantage of this Pre-Order bundle.
Finally, it looks like they’re working on a Collector’s Edition with lots of physical stuff. No known release date has been set for this.

The other thing that bugs me (and I hope they address this), is the feeling of going in circles. Finally unlocking an area after so much effort is put into it, only to go into a similar area.

Good news everyone! The reviews will soon have a new home

After countless complaints over people saying they rather read my reviews than my rants on a particular game I’m playing (plus not being able to find them). Believe me, I hear you folks. And I have finally thought of something!
Instead of creating another SQL entry for another blog post (or having to ask in the WordPress forum if there’s a way to make a webpage automatically plop a link down everytime “game review” is said in the title of a blog post), I’ve decided to convert my old Videos blog (that I haven’t used in a long time and will likely never use) into where I will be forever doing my reviews. Plus if I ever do start making videos again, they’ll be together with my reviews.

All of my reviews will be moved with time, and this blog will continue with my normal gaming news/ranting about blog. It’s a win-win in my book, and hopefully it will be in yours.
I hope to have this fully completed by either tonight or Saturday. Do watch for another once it’s all done.
Nighty night. Nearly 6 in the morning right now.

.
EDIT: So I’ve been running into a snag (and watching Youtube videos for half the day instead of working doesn’t help either). I had to wipe out the blog completely, so no backup.. sorry. For those that aren’t website-savvy, I’ll spare you guys the details.
The issue didn’t come from having to recreate the database and reinstall the blog files, but from customizing the thing. WordPress has a customizer that you can visually see changes as you make them in realtime..at least, in practice. This works on this blog and my General blog…….yet not in this. There’s this button that says ‘Save & Activate’. Normally, pressing it once will save the changes. Except, it’s not. It stops a split second after I click it, and it refuses to save.

Forced to make a support thread in their forum, unfortunately I may have to wait ’till possibly the 15th of when my thread would be reviewed by a moderator, in order for it to show up and actually have a chance to be responded to (hopefully by someone helpful).
I can understand the reasoning. Even I would do something like this. But to be transparent and say “It will be reviewed within 72 hours.” just doesn’t feel fair to you guys.. especially how long of a wait all of you have been of trying to get me to finally do something about this.
I have been meaning to, but I explained that I didn’t feel like making another blog in order to do so. It felt silly to me. And at the time, pretty much not needed (due to the time that I wasn’t really posting non-reviews).

So, I’m sorry. Either this issue somehow fixes itself, or I’m forced to wait through the 15th (and then some) for this thread to be reviewed (and hopefully answered by someone that can help).
I’ll try a few things. But if they don’t work, then I have a temporary workaround (hopefully it’s not permanent). It won’t be fun (for me), but I know it will work (as it won’t require outside help). The only thing that’ll set me back is the hoster themselves (yet by that point, I won’t be able to say anything as the website would be down).
Speaking of the hoster (Arvixe), there’s a (I feel) 65% chance the ‘friendly’ response will be in the form of “contact your hoster” (even though I told them that both blogs work fine). Another thing they’ll probably tell me is to reinstall WordPress (even though I told them it was a clean install and I’ve disabled all plugins..and it’s still happening).

EDIT2: Good (and Bad) news for you folks. I’ll start with the Good: looks like I don’t have to wait ’till the 15th afterall! Checked the forum post (after clearing the cache in Firefox praying this would fix the issue…it didn’t) and the post has been approved. Now all I have to do is wait for someone to respond.
And then there’s the Bad: the thread is already on Page 2 in the ‘Fixing WordPress’ section of the forum. I don’t really have high hopes the thread will be responded to.
Will keep you folks updated as soon as I see one.

Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood require dailies to advance questline

I feel like I was robbed, doing a quest to help the Thieves Guild to get this mercenary group off their backs, and then suddenly it’s like someone reached into my quest journal and stole the questline when I wasn’t looking..because now it’s reduced to dailies being the only way to get skill with the guild.
I went to the Guildmaster, and they’re launching an investigation in what happened to the questline. One of them got a lead it might be the evil company named “Zenimax” that robbed me of a continuing questline. Unfortunately the investigation has gone cold, with another telling me it’s likely nothing I can do.

And as much as I wish someone would preform The Black Sacrament on the company (and I get a kill contract from The Dark Brotherhood), there really is nothing I can do.
The dailies alone are starting to get on my nerves. One is “go to these towns and pickpocket…even though you already have been to these same towns”, another is “be a nice person and retrieve this item.. even though you’ve already retrieved the item a day ago.”
And then finally, there are the “steal these items and avoid detection before time runs out, and if you kill someone or get spotted, you lose time” Heist dailies. These ‘Heists’ are the worst of all. They should had called them “Thief Challenges”..because that’s all they are. Anything that has ‘before time runs out’ is a turn-off for me. I refuse to be rushed (and judged for not being fast enough).

So I’ve gone back to The Dark Brotherhood, yet I feel both guilds have the same quest structure (they aren’t like the Mages and Fighters Guilds, apparently).

.
EDIT: Yep.. I was right. Now these ‘Killer for Hire’ dailies are also repeating themselves. Plus, I just did this area I did a day ago and fucked up not knowing how to handle it (and even having to call for help)… yet they aren’t the same two targets. It’s the same place, but not the same targets as before.
I asked in Zone chat in a shocked and annoyed tone: “So, the only way to advance the questline on both the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood…is to do dailies (until I get to the next level of these guilds)?” And I get a very disturbing “yep”. Disturbing as in ‘HOW IN THE FUCK CAN YOU LIVE WITH THIS BULLSHIT?! Dailies should NOT be used to gate content FFS!!’
COME ON!! Fighter’s Guild, you gain XP from… well, killing mobs. And the Mages Guild, you get them from finding books. Both, work with what you normally do. These…these are only in specific locations (instead of part of the world). Plus, they’re just like dailies from WoW! Even one who has the fucking NERVE to say “come back tomorrow” to me.

What really slays me, is stealing items and fencing them gains skill with the Thieves Guild…yet you don’t gain Dark Brotherhood skill from killing innocents with the Blade of Woe. To gate the questline behind dailies is one thing, but to not give options to level the skill outside of them? That’s messed up, ZOS.

I really feel burned by this. IMO, you have got to be a special breed of human to feel this bullshit is acceptable. There’s just no way in the bowels of hell, I’m the only one pissed off (or was after the releases of the DLCs in 2015/16) about this. People were pissed off over Morrowind not being included in ESO+ (that I felt I was the tiny 0.01% minority that was pissed about that), so surely they were pissed (at a time) over this. Yet ZOS did nothing (and this clearly proves it). And I bet just like Morrowind, the debate over it was 70/30 (in favor of the “we’re adults, we know what hard work means”) people.
Now, I’m an adult too (even though I never act like one) and I don’t feel this is right. Dailies, should only be optional content to give the player something to do while doing the main content… not -as- the main content. Doing the same thing, again and again (and having it happen the same way everytime), is repetitive. Of course so is life, but this is a video game we’re talking about god damnit! Video games are supposed to be there to ESCAPE the grinding of a job in real life, not fucking imitate it (aka Wurm Online)!!
Why people (and especially video game companies) can’t see it like this, is beyond me. If I wanted to play a life simulator, I got The Sims to do that (and it does it quite well(in its silly “aww.. do you gotta pee?! Then STOP FUCKING PLAYING GUITAR AND GO PEE!!” way)).

*sigh*…I dunno what I’m going to do now. Quitting will do nothing (instead of leaving me bored and knowing all I got left is Wurm again). Guess I’ll just do zone questlines ’till I hit Level 50 and then do the main questline (or do them and wait ’till it’s time to deal with Molag Bal(for the 3rd time)).
“But Benie, the main questline is grinding too! You’ve already done it twice” you might say, and you would be right in that regard. But at least the main questline isn’t the same quest, or the same area..every. fucking. time. Heard when it comes to the Dark Brotherhood alone (and since the Thieves Guild uses the same questing structure, I would assume both are affected) that there’s 4-8 random ‘dungeons’ that are used. So either ZOS is deliberately trolling me (as when it comes to the Black Sacrament, I keep getting the “I propose a challenge” one), or I’m getting a ‘bad roll’.
The ‘I propose a challenge’ thing, takes me to a multiple route cave. I originally thought this was just some initiation and then I would get the good stuff. Yet I’m being told to go here again, and kill two different people. This has to be, the LAZIEST excuse of a daily I have ever seen in my life as a gamer!
I get that done, and go do a few kill contracts. Come back, and there’s another Black Sacrament one for me. Felt like “finally, something new!”…same. fucking. location..different. people. to kill.

*sticks up middle finger at quest, everyone in the room, and leaves while holding finger at every player I see*
If I may barrow a line from Mister Joe Vargas(aka Angry Joe as he’s named on Youtube)..
Zenimax? “You DONE FUCKED IT UP!!!”

What Zenimax isn’t telling you about player housing!

So this is a late late late…*yawns* late blog post.
First off, this isn’t clickbait. Second, I made it to Eastmarch and the Rift (mainly to do a few Thieves Guild quests). Getting to the Rift alone without completing any of the zone questline of either Stonefalls or the Rift itself, required me to go out of my way around two locked doors preventing quicker access.
Yet in doing so, I managed to come up on one of the many player homes in the game. It’s quite small, but feels homely (like a log cabin feel). Plus it has a small courtyard. The price for it (in crowns) was quite reasonable (even while furnished). Though I decided to ask in the forum (decided to ‘un-ban myself’ from the forum, and tried to get people to stop posting in the ‘is Morrowind worth it’ post I made last month).

Proceeded to Riften, the long way (while grabbing every wayshrine on the way.. and being swayed like blades of grass in the wind of the ohh so “this feels like sex” music of Skyrim 1,000 years in the past(HUGE kudos to the music team for these slow, breathtaking music scores)).
Finally made it to the city. Did a few ‘side’ quests, but was able to pull off my final heist of quickly picking the lock of a safebox with only seconds to grab the goods and get the hell out of there before the guy behind me turns around. Usually I take my time with picking locks. It’s not as difficult of picking a lock in other games (just involves locking five pins down before they spring up).
Anyway, there’s a somewhat larger house on the hill to the South of Riften, that’s also available for purchase. This one has a second floor, and it costs twice what the smaller log cabin-like house would be (around 7,500 Crowns). Though my current crown balance (now down to 6,700 crowns after going on a shopping spree), buying some more wouldn’t be that too much of an issue.

Finally got a response in that forum thread, and I’m glad I refrained from doing so. One of the biggest “make or break” was chests, and if I could store stuff in or they’re just decoration. Seems…that’s all they are. Though, the person also stated it’s one of the common features people also want added. When (or if) Zenimax does it, is when I’ll feel spending the crowns is ‘worth it’.
I’m not paying for something I cannot 100% utilize. I want to be able to store all of my shit (just like player housing in Skyrim).
Though, that bed upstairs. It may be not much to look at(like a bunch of animal skins sewed together), but it has four dragon head carvings on the top. If only I could saw them off and put them on a shelf. Fuck the bed, I want those wooden dragon head carvings! 🙂

However, in ways I can see one instance why housing (as it currently is implemented) would be useful (which would be the free teleport). Having the house near Riften would help get to it faster (and cheaper) when being out in the open and you can’t get to a Wayshrine.
Plus, since these houses are shared by your account, your alts can use them to access areas that they normally couldn’t. This…pretty much makes houses a ‘one-way personal Wayshrine’.

Bounty avoidance / Stealing has never been more profitable

I still remember the blog post I made about affording a horse, and being told that stealing is quite profitable. It also felt like a grind. But now I’m stealing while questing. Infact, it’s getting addictive. Everytime I enter a building, I start looking for things to steal.
But so is killing people with the Blade of Woe. Successful kills reward 40g in stolen goodies, and definitely beats the random percentage chance of pickpocketing (and the risk of failing it and receiving an undesired bounty).

Speaking of bounties, they have been really getting under my skin. I’m even getting bounties..without doing a fucking THING to warrant it (while sneaking and not getting caught)! The system is broken, or doesn’t like me.
There was even this one time where I’m coming out of this building, getting ready to complete this quest. I’m outside, and I’m noticing I’m still in a trespass zone which is quite odd (but seeing how I didn’t have a bounty I felt I was OK), yet I didn’t know the guards were still hostile (as if I had a bounty) and one kills me without warning! I was SOOOOOOO furious after that. When I finally made it back, all of my stolen stuff was gone and I had no way to cover the repair cost. The only thing that kept me from ragequitting is actually making a profit (somehow) with a lot of gold.

Oh yeah, I’m now with the Thieves Guild by the way. Killing things literally took a dark turn for me a day ago. It made me really think about how to sneak around (such as to get a set of ‘Night Mother’ gear to help make myself nearly invisible to mobs). Though I haven’t done the second thing yet, as I feel I’ll out-level the set eventually. Though, being part of the Thieves Guild has some pretty awesome (and definitely useful) passive perks (mainly for dealing with failed stealth attempts and having a bounty). One of these will clear a bounty somewhat faster (removing 22g every three minutes, so I won’t have to wait -as- long for it to clear).
I also unlocked a new conversation option to tell a guard not to mess with me (won’t have to pay the bounty/have stolen items taken away) if one catches me (can only do it once per RL day, though). It will also keep other guards from catching me for one minute after using it. So this can be seen as an ’emergency’ if I have a really large bounty and a guard gets me, and I’m not paying attention.
There’s also one that increases the payout of stolen items that I can fence by 2% (goes up to 4% with more skill in the Thieves Guild tree). That’s quite nice.

Who ever said “crime doesn’t pay” never tried this game, or this NPC guild. It pays, quite well. The trick is to be a shadow and never get caught (though IMO, and this is frowned upon in the Thieves Guild, a good quick stab with the Blade of Woe to get rid of the asshole that was dangerously close of seeing me, works quite well). Yet sometimes I can wind up in a room with no one in and just start stealing everything 40g or higher.
Always look for Treasure. It pays off bounties and keeps your coin purse fat (if you can get to a fence while avoiding every guard in the city).
