Finally completed Living World season 2

I’ve never felt more thrilled to finally get this BS done. Finally doing the last two episodes of the season. The forced stealth area, is very.. very difficult (to where I feel impossible unless you’re a god at stealth mechanics). You have to be so precise with your timing to knock out your target before it turns around (or one of the robots comes by). …I just can’t do it. I don’t have the patience for stealth mechanics.
But thankfully, hiding behind a pillar actually saved my ass while my AI teammate seemed to keep the other enemies with them. And this time I didn’t die. In the next room I had to save my people from a boss that was draining their life force.. while stealthed. All the enemies (including the boss) were shielded. But its mechanic thankfully revealed a weakness to destroy the generators. Yet when I do, the boss would come by and place another one.
It seemed the task was to wait until the boss landed on a platform that you deactivated the generator, and knock him out… problem is he had a stealth remover bubble around him. So.. HOW?! I was failing so bad with this, but I came up with somewhat of a winning strategy. You have the ability to drop a trap around you, that greatly damages enemies inside the circle. Managed to kill most of them by doing this place and dash to get away from them attacking me, which also allowed me to get far away enough for me to drop out of combat and actually HEAL. Like.. why does this character not have any way to heal themself?!
This problem would become a greater headache for me later on, when my AI teammate ran off but said “deal with this!”.. and it was a boss. Didn’t know what the hell I was supposed to do apart from I think I gotta kill its rock elementals to make the boss drop its shield, but I kept dying. Worst part, I couldn’t run out. I was stuck in an arena that kept on teleporting me back in. Since I can’t heal I kept on dying, and getting even more frustrated.
Even watching a video didn’t help. This fight was literally a ‘git gud’ moment.
I did notice everytime I died and respawned, the boss’s health wasn’t going back up. So maybe this is normal? Though I didn’t like being forced to run alllllll the way back from the start of the story instance. This sucked, especially when I cannot mount in a story instance.
But after 10+ deaths, I finally got the boss down. And thankfully, that was the last time I would ever have to fight as a class I wasn’t familiar with. I got to fight as my Necro from then on. But it also reminded me just.. how dependent I am of my minions. Thankfully they’re not real players.

And finally, Season 2 was completed. And it also showed what happened that lead up to the DLC: Heart of Thorns. All I can say is, I’m glad we got to take down Mordremoth. He was truly a bigger threat than Zhaitan. Not to mention he caused the Sylvari people to be seen as enemies, as according to The Pale Tree, they were linked to the jungle dragon.
And now I’m playing Season 3… which is unfortunately linked to Heart of Thorns. As in it still wants me to unlock certain Masteries to continue the story.
But, thankfully, from what I’ve discovered on my own, I can go back to do that fairly
easy Meta Event to get the XP I need to achieve that annoying task. Though I should wiki what other Mastery things I need to unlock to continue said story in the future, so I’ll be ready.

But in my honest opinion: Season 2 is NOT worth the Gems. Though from what I read when trying to get help through videos.. you’re not actually supposed to solo these. They’re more designed for co-op (or a small group) in mind. Some of the bosses I fought
have raid-like mechanics.
If only I had a friend who cared about the lore as much as I did, who would be willing to join me. And if only said friend (or friends) would think like I do. Talking about Kovo and Nova, who would be the perfect friends to do these with.

First time GW2 made me ragequit

I’m trying to play the rest of Living World Season 2. I have gotten up to Chapter 7 so
far, where I have.. ragequitted. I need a break. Getting way too pissed off/stressed at the game. And it’s mainly for not one, not two, but three forced to learn mechanics (that aren’t the traditional, old way of killing things) in order to proceed the story.
What finally broke me was a forced stealth section. And I do mean forced. As in if they find you, it’s game over. You can’t re-stealth yourself. You can’t heal yourself. You are
fucked.
What nearly broke me (more like actually wishing for someone to shoot me and put me out of my misery than spend as much time as I was forced to).. on trying to kill some
bosses. These crystalline mini-bosses who have a health pool the size of Jupiter, are immune to everything but raw damage.

This fucker, the final boss…, took me 30 MINUTES until it finally went down. It was stuck at 50% health for a long time where I thought the encounter was bugged.. turns out I have to have to keep ‘sacrificing’ my minions to this asshole to keep damaging it. I’m not kidding.
It isn’t about not DPSing hard enough. It isn’t a skill issue. It’s the game, not telling
me how the fuck to properly damage them!! The only idea the game showed me, was these ‘hidden achievements’. It claimed, I could take down one of the mini-bosses down from 75% health to 0, in less than 15 seconds. I thought “NO FUCKING WAY could I pull that shit off!!”
But, in the final area, there’s this boon that drops your health to 1. The slightest pinch, will kill you. There are these mobs that will consume boons. If they consume this, their health drops to 0 (making them super easy to kill). Somehow, you have to get the boss, or something, to.. maybe walk on them the moment they die, to weaken them?! I
dunno!
Now, I’m not really against boss mechanics. Trying to learn them is fun. But, only when the game actually tells you how to do it, so you’ll be prepared. This time, I had absolutely no idea what the hell to do!! It frustrated me so fucking much!
And I’m never EVER going to do that episode again! Fuck that shit! But I guess I should be thankful it’s not one of those really annoying bosses that my minions can’t keep the aggro off me, and its ranged attack abilities are less than mine. ..Just wish the game explained the damn mechanics to me in a visual way! There are these light pillars that sometimes would have a shape in them, but I cannot get to them. Keep being knocked back when I approach.

But, the season did come with some really cool times. Especially with all the ass kissing I got for defeating Zhaitan. It was great. Like, there was this time where there’s these
two Charr who were chilling and I run by them. One of them points at me and
shouts “That’s him! That the guy who took down Zhaitan!!”
I felt like saying “Yes! And I had absolutely no help from NPCs! I took him down all by myself!.. yeah my minions helped too, but I did it!! Would you like an autograph?” But that would’ve been far from the truth. Just glad Rytlock wasn’t there deflating my ego by saying “it wasn’t a solo effort”. Fuck you too, Brimstone. lol
There was also this part where I was getting all the world leaders together to talk about the seriousness of Mordremoth, and how it’s vines have been seen causing chaos all
over Tyria. Infact I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. It is absolute horror
what Mordremoth is doing.
There’s this Azura who questioned my solo skills, saying something like “you took
down Zhaitan, why are you unable to take down Mordremoth the same way?”
And the answer is, honestly… I had help. The Pact was there, had that airship that helped me to defeat Zhaitan. I need that help again, from all of you guys. And they thankfully agreed.

…But, before I could go to command my Pact army to victory once again, I was called on a special assignment to assist the Master of Peace with something I could not speak of. All I could say is it would be very, very bad for all of Tyria if it fell in the wrong hands.
That explains what happened in the start of Heart of Thorns, why I wasn’t there
onboard Destiny’s Edge. And in a way, it was actually a good thing. Mordremoth would’ve won in destroying Tyria without Deathclaw Ragefist there stopping it.

The worst case of Buyer’s Remorse I ever felt in my life

Yesterday, as I was feeling a lot of distrust with ArenaNet, Jero wanted to hang out with me in VR. Of course I wanted to be with my BF, plus it would help with my ‘break’ from GW2. However this was fucked by one of VRChat’s upstream providers having issues with the login server. I would log in just fine, but just sit there, and sit there, and sit there until I timed out.
This process took 4 hours until their upstream provider finally got whatever the hell was going on with their servers. I could see the frantic chaos trying to get everything back to normal. I can also safely assume this angered a lot of remaining VRC+ subscribers.

Anyway, Jero went to work as he went offline, and never came back on. It was upsetting because I really wanted to hang out with him, but.. shit happens.
Decided to say “fuck it” and went back to GW2, starting.. starting the bane of my
fuckup: trying to play Living World Season 2, Chapter 1. This one, we had no idea where all of these vines were coming from. And it really felt weird to go ‘back in time’ after I had already defeated Mordremoth.
But the story, it was messy. And just like Living World Season 1, there was no captions during cutscenes. And your character also doesn’t talk (apart from dialog). I dunno what we were even doing here, yet they all act like I told them to meet here.
See, when I read the message from the mysterious ‘E’ person (from Season 1), it told me to go to an area I haven’t been to in years (and there’s no easy route to get there). After getting lost, I thankfully did find (on the map) a waypoint that would get me closer to it. And after running by loads of enemies on my raptor mount, I found the route to get to the story checkpoint.

After completing the first scene, you enter the ‘fabled’ Dry Top that my character kept talking about bad things that happened there in Heart of Thorns. Mainly, betrayal by a former Pact member that my character was so fucking pissed over.
Then there’s this moment my character suddenly turns into a fucking forensics expert after going over a crashed airship, and somehow determines, this was no accident.. HUH?!
Since when did my character suddenly understand crime scenes?! The only thing
a Charr understands, is war. It’s literally in their lore! How in the fuck did my guy suddenly have Batman’s intelligence in solving crimes?!

Then there’s this thing about ‘The Prince of Peace’ having an assassin after him.
…My mind went numb, trying to understand this. It got too used to being told what
the FUCK is going on, instead of having to read dialog.
And then, you fight the assassin. The guy’s not a boss, but he fights dirty. So much I can’t predict his moves. Infact when the ‘battle’ started, I didn’t even know where to go to fight the guy. Just seeing constant spawning spike tendrils. It took 15 minutes until I finally managed to get up to fight the guy.. only to be knocked back down by his explosives. Over and over again. Took awhile until I was able to outsmart the attacks, yet I didn’t even realize he was dead. And my teammates didn’t tell me either.
Finally though, things slightly started turning in the direction of trying to figure out why the Elder Dragons came back, and noticing the name ‘Mordremoth’ etched into a book. And that’s where Chapter 1 ends.

This. was. so. BAD!! It felt so dull compared to Season 1! There was even a part I
was trying desperately to hear the dialog of my team.. while also hearing a
random NPC crying somewhere that was ruining my concentration.
ArenaNet, not your best work. Not worth the 200 Gems I used to unlock. But it also leads me to believe why they even gave the option to purchase the individual episodes. ..Really wish someone warned me not to buy Episode 1 then.

Posted in Other, PC | Comments Off on The worst case of Buyer’s Remorse I ever felt in my life

When ArenaNet helps, but you still feel burned

I dunno if I’m going to keep playing after what happened with this really bad purchase of gems I made. Basically, last night I was told in the unofficial GW2 Discord to ask in their support, and they might give me “a partial refund”. And I thought, hopefully that means real world money to undo this fuckup I made (or even better, give me the 4,000 Gems I need to unlock the rest of the seasons).
Made a ticket and waited until this afternoon. At least on the bright side I managed to change my account email (finally). As for this issue, they told me “sorry, but we can’t refund your money. All we can tell you is that you purchase the complete package of Living World Season 2, and we will refund any remaining gems to your account”. And that’s exactly what they did.
Infact, the actual price of the full season is 1,280 Gems. I got a ‘discount’ for purchasing the first episode, and they gave me back 400 Gems to cover the cost. So, that’s it. That’s all they’re going to do for me. Ok, I guess I should be happy you gave me back the gems I fucked up with, but 440 isn’t going to be enough to get the other seasons.
I don’t feel OK with this, ArenaNet. I still feel cheated. And before you ask “why”, because I wanted all the seasons. Not just Season 2 and that’s it!! But, it’s also not their fault I didn’t know the only way to get all the seasons is through the Black Lion Trading Company. Right? ..No, it’s not the fault, of their support team. They did all they could for
me. They’re not at fault, by any means. I should be lucky they didn’t try to fuck me. I actually got a decent deal out of it, getting 440 Gems remaining (plus unlocking all
of Living World Season 2).
It’s the fault of the devs for not making this more clear, that 1,600 was not going to be enough. …If they had just added a second button on the Story page, that showed you could get the entire season for X amount of Gems, none of this would had ever been an issue.
But the fact they allow you to purchase the individual seasons, which is even more expensive than just getting the entire season.
Take Season 2 for example (the most expensive of the five). Costs 1,280 Gems if you buy the complete season. Yet unlocking all the episodes individually, would cost you 1,600 Gems.
Why, is purchasing the individual episodes, 320 more gems than getting the complete pack?! …If this doesn’t scream out “scummy business practices”, I don’t know what
does. It’s also funny, that 1,600 Gems is the exact amount of what you get for $20. So, now you see why I am PISSED!! I’m pissed, they allow this. I’m pissed, they’re OK with screwing people over like this who are thinking 200 Gems will unlock the entire
season (and their support team has to bail them out).
They take advantage, of the idiotic. Yet people still play, and they still give money to them. Because they’re not idiots, like me. And they also don’t mind grinding their asses off to get enough gold for Gems.
And the best way they could fix that, is adding a simple button in the Story page when viewing the Living World seasons, that shows you can buy each individual season
for 960 Gems each. It would solve this issue. Or at least, make the cost of gems comparable to buying each episode separately.

EDIT: I have since… caved and decided to hand them an additional $35 (I hope they choke on it) to get 2,800 Gems. With the extra 440 Gems, it was more than enough to pay for the remaining Living World seasons.
Now that I have everything, the issue is ‘fixed’ (for me at least). …But I still don’t feel like playing. Not after all the stress I went through. *sighs* I just keep being reminded, if I had just.. not ‘wanted’ to know the damn lore between the DLCs, I would had done
what Nappie suggested and wait until I completed End of Dragons. He claims I would get a ton of gold from that one, and convert the gold into Gems. But he also mentions crafting and selling finished goods to other players, which.. I’ve never done in this game. Only in WoW.
Why? Because I’m tired of looting things, fearing I’ll eventually see the dreaded ‘You are
Encumbered!’ warning that gets stuck on my screen, until I get to a Merchant and clear out my inventory.
Back in WoW, I used to have a mount that had a trader which came with it. And I could just sell my shit even if I’m in the middle of nowhere. But GW2 doesn’t have any cool utility mounts like that. They have passes that have a two week expiration date.
…And don’t get me started with how unbelievably limited the Bank is!!

However I read that next month, there are changes coming to inventory. It was actually supposed to come today, but due to an issue it’s been delayed to December 10th. Something about “increasing the maximum number of bag slots available per
character” (yet not explaining how many), and an additional 40% off on extra bag slots (through the Gem store of course, but they also state a limit of 2 per account).
I hope this means FREE extra bag slots. I already have a few 20 slot bags from doing
these DLCs that I cannot use, as my bag slots are full.

Posted in -GAMES-, Other, PC | Comments Off on When ArenaNet helps, but you still feel burned

My journey so far since I came back to GW2 (spoiler free)

Decided to take a break from GW2 to type this out, mainly over the pure frustration trying to complete a ‘simple’ Mastery point challenge.

Before I start, here’s a few starter notes;
Kovo and Nova have stopped playing (as expected). Though Kovo claims they’ll only play for 1-2 hours every day, they’ve been playing some Pokemon game. And I feel they’re probably done with GW2 (unless they get bored).
I’ve learned a lot from Nappie’s friend ‘Shiro’, mainly about the ‘Living World’ content.
The ‘Heart of Thorns’ DLC.. let’s just say the only thing “good” that came out of it was getting the glider. Well that and ‘soloing’ Mordremoth (the second Elder Dragon).

To start off, I’m doing the ‘Path of Fire’ DLC.. even though I’m skipping. Basically the game, like all episodic games, have their addon content in chronological order.
The first one is free content after reaching Level 80, called ‘Living World Season 1’.
Before, this used to not be available for a very long time.. reasons unknown. But I feel thankful I came back when I did, as in early November (on the 8th), they unlocked it. However, the others (and there are others. Four of them plus an additional addon), costs money.
Yeah. So you might be asking “wait.. don’t they come with the DLCs?!” They do.. if you pay $75 or more. But for the standard edition, they aren’t included because BS ‘reasons’ that are unknown to me. Honestly, this makes Warframe look good if I was to compare the two games (going by what Kovo keeps telling me about it). Would be awesome if more game devs followed the same principle of what is defined as a ‘free’ game.
On top of that, I cannot just buy these additional story packs with regular money. I have to buy the ingame currency of Gems, to unlock them. And they’re 200 Gems each.
That’s 1,000 Gems. So yeah.. microtransactions. WEEEE…

-ArenaNet

Going by the wiki, 1600 Gems is the closest thing I can go, which claims to be $20. But that means I would had spent $60+ on this game ($40 for the DLC pack + $20(not including tax) for the 1600 Gems).
Now there’s ways that you don’t have to spend real world money, but they require a lot of effort. You can exchange gold for gems, or achievements for gems. All I can think
is… ArenaNet tried to copy EA’s microtransaction playbook (but thankfully stopped short by not adding randomized loot boxes you can buy, aka it isn’t seen as gambling).
But this is my opinion. I can hear Nappie’s friend Shiro telling me that they ‘need’ the money. Boy, would Kovo tell me different about Warframe‘s approach.
Anyway, there is that Black Friday sale staring tomorrow. Shiro told me I could buy the individual Living World seasons. So maybe there would be a discount for gems? I hope so. It’ll be the first time I would be checking it out. Not even Shiro knows, and he’s put in a lot more hours into the game than I have.

EDIT: I’ve asked the (unofficial) Guild Wars Discord and was told “unlikely” of discounts for gems, but “maybe from authorized 3rd party sellers” (while not giving me any links of said sellers). Went on and bought the gems anyway, for $21.40. Said it could take up ’till 12 hours until I get the gems, but it took roughly a half an hour until the payment was completed and I got them.

But enough about Living World. I wanna move on to the DLCs themselves. Mainly, discussing a very much disliked DLC (yet I had to play to follow the story
along): Heart of Thorns.
To not reveal spoilers, something terrible happens to the Pact leaders and everyone’s scattered. But one thing I actually do like about the story is just how much of a badass they make your character, where he (or she) actually sounds like a Commander. And you have to make some.. really tough moral decisions that I swear ArenaNet was looking at Mass Effect 2‘s homework. Thankfully, unlike that game, your choices don’t seem to matter. Of course this isn’t going to be the opinion of most people, where they feel there needs to be consequences to your actions.
And that’s all I’m going to say about that. I could comment but I feel it would be best if I kept them to myself.
So you get your first means of better traversal, the Glider. And it behaves like you would expect a glider to do so. Think of it as a Slow Fall spell but has a bar that will eventually deplete, and you’ll fall like a sack of wet rocks. …And don’t get me started, that the first zone of the DLC is very hard to traverse normally, where you are required to use said glider. It is NOT optional, and this even affects the story. More on that later.

However, you can make your glider better by mastering it through the Mastery system.
But mastering your glider abilities… isn’t what you think it is. No, it’s getting XP from
kills, or doing events. Lots, and lots, and lots, and lots, and lots, and lots… of events. Infact, events are the only fucking way to get XP!! If you think I’m kidding, I’m not. They took away the classic heart quests and made it where ONLY events (group and other) are the only ways to get XP.
But there’s also the ‘meta event’. According to Shiro, there’s one per zone. In the first
zone, what happens in the world is based on the game’s day/night cycle. In the
day, everything’s normal. But at night, is when the twisted followers of the Elder Dragon Mordremoth come out and play. Scattered around the map are several Rally points that players are tasked to defend, and assist with.
How much effort is put into this meta event (and even your own), determines the rewards for everyone that participates once the sun rises again. You, must have 100% (or
higher) participation in order to get said rewards. It also affects how high the XP boost is. Shiro said this is the best way to farm XP.
Now going back to the story. There was three times where I was forced to grind XP in order to continue it. And seeing the only way (during the day) are events, boy did I get sick of this BS very fast.

But I am thankful Shiro took me to the zone to the south, which has a much easier meta event (and a lot more rewarding). The events, are like a drop in the XP bucket compared to when the meta event starts. Because holy fuck when it’s done, it feels like I receive either
a 25% to 50% XP boost to that bar. I’ve managed to complete a few of my masteries thanks to this.
And the next zone, is hell. Not hell as in The Nether from Minecraft, but.. take what you know from the first biome and crank it up to 11, where there’s less waypoints, multi-leveled maze-like traversal that makes it harder to reach events.. and mostly underground. Claustrophobia people beware.
But the meta event, I..I’m not sure if that was it or not. All I remember (without
spoiling) is something about a cannon, running into this cavern and… that’s it? All you do is loot the goods there and then continue what you were doing.

The final zone confused me. Never did the meta event here as I was focused on wrapping up the story (taking the fight to Mordremoth). But it showed something about ‘Map closes in (time here)’. …Map closing?! As in when the timer hits 0, the zone deletes itself!?!? Wha?!
Eventually I was able to fight Mordremoth. And my character wasn’t kidding when he said it would be harder to defeat than Zhaitan. It was a small arena, where I was desperately trying to stay alive. It got to a point I was spawn-sacrificing my heal minion over and
over, only to watch that health go away with the near constant, undodgable attacks.
Plus I was running away from the adds he was spawning (my minions weren’t pinning them down), spamming my ‘3’ AoE ability behind me to slow them down in order for me to spin around and do my normal attacks.
It was a crazy, insane boss fight. There was even a stage in the fight where I had to use my glider or I’d die. ..I went down a few times but thankfully the boss’s health didn’t reset. But I was able to deliver the killing blow.

Now I’m playing the DLC: Path of Fire. And according to Nappie, Melan, and Shiro, this one is so much better than the last one. The masteries unlock ground, and flying mounts for you. The first ground mount you get, is the raptor (the one that you get for free
at Level 10 that lasts for 10 hours), except this one you can keep forever (and it’s available on all of your characters, even any new ones you create).
Oh, and by the way, the final boss of this DLC, isn’t an Elder Dragon (from what I
read), but one of the six Gods of Tyria who goes rogue. So yay.. I get to fight a God!
Well, call me Kratos then. Guild of War(s) 2. πŸ˜‚

.
But before I wrap this up (which is where I want to), I want to leave you with two
things that happened (that are spoiler free).
In that DLC, you meet up with Rytlock as you’re trying to gain access to a town. They discover you’re the ‘dragon killer’.. and he kills my mood by saying “it wasn’t a solo
effort, but yeah. The commander’s taken down one or two.” …Wow, Rytlock. Though you’re right, that still stung. Way to deflate my ego there.

The second thing, involved attempting to do a ‘simple’ Mastery point challenge. Helping a chef by throwing ingredients he calls out.. the problem is the guy moves erratically, and there’s a time limit. It requires you to remember where every ingredient is, or just react the speed that a computer would.
It’s fucking ridiculous. And I’ve been told there’s another one just like him somewhere else.

.
.
But, that’s it. If anything else comes up, I’ll be making another blog post.

Posted in Other, PC, PC Game Reviews | Comments Off on My journey so far since I came back to GW2 (spoiler free)

Playing a game I haven’t touched in 7 years.. nor did I think I’d ever touch again

And no, it’s not Wurm. Every time I think of that game I remember being burned out by the very thing I enjoyed doing, and I really doubt ‘Wurmlogic’ will ever change.
The game I’d never thought I would play again (let alone be able to resurrect my old account for it), is Guild Wars 2.
The last time I talked about it was back in 2015, aka I guess you could call
the ‘MMO Era’ of my life. 2004 to 2016, I think it was. Starting with WoW.

So what made me come back to Guild Wars 2, after so long? Kovo indirectly did, of one day him and Nova were playing it. Even Nappie and Melan were playing it. Turns out a few weeks ago it got released on Steam, and it’s ‘free’ to all. And there’s a good reason why that word is in quotes.
When you first start as a new character, you’re part of a free account. ..And the game hounds you to buy a DLC to unlock it to a full account. And there’s mounts now. Ground mounts, and flying mounts. You get a free mount at Level 10.. but you only ‘own’ it for ten hours. And when your ‘free mount trial’ ends, it once again hounds you to buy a DLC.
So you’re back on your two legs, running around the map just like those ‘good ole times’ I had when I was leveling back then.

Also, indirectly thanks to Nappie, I ..somehow was able to log into my old account, and saw my old Level 80 chars from back then. Like.. holy fuck! Deathclaw Ragefist is back in action! What I mean by ‘somehow’ is my old account was linked to my even older ISP email, and I assumed I no longer had access to it. I’m glad I was wrong.
But bringing back such an old character, comes with a huge problem. …I have nothing to do since I’m Level 80. Here I was assuming my old chars were permanently retired, so I created a fresh char using the Steam account.
Eventually I had enough. I need a fucking reason besides “I can help Kovo and Nova
now.” There’s a Black Friday sale coming next week that has discounts for the DLCs, but I said “screw waiting!” and got this $40 thing that you can get all three DLCs.
Do I regret it? Yes. Because the $75 one had some nice bells and whistles attached that I don’t think you can normally get through gameplay.

There’s also another problem. Well, it’s hard to say if this truly would be considered a problem, but say “this game isn’t for everyone”. Talking about Kovo. Yes the same person that made me do this, is getting bored with the game. Him and Nova both.
Their biggest issue with the game is, there’s only one way to level up through Open World. Aka doing the heart quests. They want to do other things, but the game limits them. They do understand this is a 10-year-old MMORPG, and are trying to give it their all. But I feel they’ll eventually stop playing. Give it a week.
But as I said I dunno why I’m letting this.. bug me. I guess because I.. well, don’t want to feel alone again? Nappie and Melan are nice, but.. but they’re not Kovo and Nova, who I’ve been around with a lot more than those two.
It really shouldn’t affect me, as I played this game way.. way before I ever heard
of VRChat (where I met them). I should be used to this.

BONELAB – The game that’s stuck in an endless time loop

I’d like to think this as half of a review of the game, and the other half of being able to put my Drex into the game.
So, BONELAB was first talked out on May 2nd of this year by Thrillseeker. The game has been in development since 2020. Though I didn’t really pay attention to what he said back then, all I saw was “this looks like a BONEWORKS successor”. The fact you can do so much more, even change who you are to fit your playstyle. And I don’t mean just physically, but visually. You can become different avatars, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.
But possibly the coolest aspect is how well each avatar will fit with your RL body. If you touch your hips IRL, you’ll touch the avatar’s hips in the same way. Games like VRChat never really nailed this down and there was always issues with ruining the immersion. But this dev team wants to fix that.

Yet even better, and I wasn’t aware of this until 5 days before launch from another video by Thrillseeker.. you can bring in your avatars from VRChat or Chillout INTO the
game, and play as your personal avatar!!
And here’s my attempt of bringing my Drex in.

Cool, huh?! 😁 It feels like NeosVR, the fact I can see my avatar’s snout. It’s wild.

However the process of doing it is unlike uploading an avatar to those aforementioned platforms. It uses a system that matches the game’s lore. Instead of uploading a
traditional avatar/world to a cloud server, you throw your work into a crate instead. And then you send that crate to the Asset Warehouse (which is an actual level in the game). This cuts back on resources, for you and the cloud server.
Except, you’re hosting your own content. Unless, you go here and upload it for others to use. As of now there’s no in-Unity Amazon Cloud based service which to upload your work. And I wonder if that’s also part of the lore. Dunno.

But here’s the part where I’m forced to be negative. As cool as the aspects above are, the game itself is lackluster. I cannot say this is a ‘VR game changer’ or ‘the best thing for the VR Industry’ (unlike Thrillseeker who has hyped the game to hell and back). No, I don’t share those feelings.
When I review games, I don’t review them of how they’ll help the future of a genre (even though the game itself sucks), I review the game itself. Yet Thrillseeker himself wants you to not see this as a “game”, that if you do that, you won’t fully understand how much this means for the VR industry and the ‘medium’ (whatever the fuck a ‘medium’ is I
dunno. Back in my day we didn’t use that term to describe something that affected the future of a product as a whole).
And I say to that.. pssh. Should I feel bad for saying this? No. Because we all have an opinion. And my opinion, is this game isΒ not. worth. $40! The gameplay, isn’t
worth $40. It’s worth $20-$25 at the most.

And I only have myself to blame for giving into the hype. I told myself to wait, of ‘what if it doesn’t live up to the hype’.
However I want to shift said blame to the devs, because we were never informed
through Steam how much it would be before release. If I had known, I would had waited for a sale.
And not everyone uses 3rd party gaming news websites like Kotaku to learn this stuff. …So is that my fault for not doing research? No. The devs should had posted it
on Steam, before its release, to make sure players make an informed decision.
Incidentally, there was never a promotional sale for players who owned Boneworks. So it’s fair to say (for a lot of people), that this was “a full-priced DLC”, yet without requiring the base game.
So.. what do I not like about it? Mainly, it’s the same issues I have with Boneworks. The rubber-banding physics when picking up an object, getting yourself stuck in
guardrails, and that annoying ‘slapping’ sound.
Seriously, if they truly wanted to make this game be more immersive, I shouldn’t be allowed to pick up a very heavy looking metal box from the top (as if it’s as light as a feather but also made out of rubber bands). I would be having to bend my knees and lift it from either the sides or the bottom… like IRL. Add realistic weight to shit, SLZ!!

But anyway, here’s what I don’t like about BONELAB;
1. It’s almost required to be playing on Ultra graphics settings, as the mid levels.. I saw walls that had Minecraft-quality textures.. in VR. Wtf. That is unacceptable.
2. The ammo counter is now in your Inventory, instead of close to your ammo belt. And there’s NO option to change this! WHY?!
3. Shotgun ammo shows a cube instead of a shotgun shell. Also the Shotgun ammo crates are hilariously oversized compared to Pistol/Uzi and Rifle ammo.
3a. Shotgun ammo is semi rare, but Rifle ammo is even more rare compared to Boneworks. I used to have over 3,000 Rifle ammo in Boneworks. But in Bonelab it
was 735.
4. There was a section when I was unlocking the avatars, that I gotta get a barrel up on a ledge. And if it rolls off, I got softlocked (as props do not respawn).
5. There’s more puzzles, and some hardly give any explanation if you’re supposed to get to a certain area or not.
6. After I fully unlocked the avatars, the game felt too short. Like, the only avatars I ever needed to switch to were ‘Strong’ and ‘Tall’. There was that one area where you had no choice but to use ‘Fast’. Which really, really kills me and this was the selling point of the game, that you can “play your way”.
6a. You cannot switch back to your main avatar unless you either complete the story and get a new ‘Avatars’ thing, or use the ‘Body-Mall’.
7. Best way to explain the ending (without spoilers), is when the game finally ‘ended’ (if you can even call it an ‘ending’)… it felt similar to ending of Bendy & the Ink
Machine
Chapter 5 (to give you a reference).

If you still want to play this game, wait for a sale or try to find it on G2A (or some other 3rd party Steam key website like that). You’d be doing yourself a favor by not spending
the $40.
This is not a bad game, by any means. I just don’t like the feeling I “paid to be a beta tester”: the Minecraft-like textures (in places) when using Low quality
textures (set by my GPU apparently), the Shotgun ammo looking weird, and getting repeatably softlocked on one level… should had been fixed before release. Those are the biggest issues I have against this game.
“But Benie, you could look at the cube as a ‘Special’ ammo type” you could say, but the problem with your statement is this ammo is specifically for Shotguns.

This game definitely has potential, it just needs to be ‘unlocked’ by the devs. One day we’ll be able to make custom weapons, custom NPCs (friendly or enemy, even having an army of me’s I have to defeat), and Vehicles. They claimed “whatever you think of, you can make”.
…Even someone I know who (thankfully gave up on) making.. a dick as an avatar. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
If other game devs in the future decide to be inspired by the technology
from BONELAB for their next VR game, then yeah it’s “good for the VR Industry”. But that’s hard to say at this time.

But yeah, that’s it. I’m hoping one day I’ll feel this $40 was ‘worth it’. But as it currently stands, the only way I would recommend this game is if you find it on sale.
$20-$25 minimum is how much (I personally feel) it’s worth, with how short it is compared to Boneworks.
You know, what might be hilarious is there could be DLC for this game. As there’s a few doors that won’t open. Who knows as to why. I might do a mini-‘Game Theory’ of the story as I see it. As there’s definitely lore to Fantasy Land (and why the intro starts the way it does).

Planet Crafter – I’m in the (slow ass) endgame now!

-Planet Crafter devs

More like, I’ve reached the end of what the current Early Access content has. I have fully reached Trees stage and now I’m on the (unimplemented yet) Insects stage. This really sucks how I wasn’t able to get Tree Spreader T2 in time, but.. well I have mixed opinions about how they’re doing this. Now this is all my opinion. Except my opinion is so fucking fragmented I dunno where to even start.
Actually, I’ll let my Steam review talk for me. Here…

However, after figuring out one can easily make a duplicate of their save by a simple copy paste (and use the dupe to continue playing while leaving their original save game
alone), I’m not sure if I should keep my review. Infact most people don’t even call this
the “endgame” as there’s still more numbers to grind.
I still do. Because this (as I said at the start) is the end of the current released stages. Though it might not be long..

This picture clearly shows Insects stage coming soon’ish (the dev team of two estimate by the end of next month), with a new ‘Insect (or ‘Fauna’) Spreader’. Or maybe ‘Flower Spreader T3’ with an additional slot for Insects, as I see Golden Seed being used for the flowers.
In any case, maybe this and the Fish stages will be implemented by then. I hope so. And I also hope they rebalance the grind. All I know is currently, everyone that’s in Fish stage who asks “why is GTi so damn slow? I’ve tried everything”, their answer is “it’s because the stage isn’t implemented yet”. So surely.. SURELY they’ll fix this when they are to make the number grind less unbearable!
Though.. they might be talking about the percentage of the stage itself, not getting GTi up at that point. It.. it might actually be normal of the current number grind for this.

VRChat’s IK 2.0 update: No longer need IKTweaks?

Another VRChat update, and another mod break.. and holy FUCK the amount of mods that broke with this one!! But one mod in particular is going to take a lot longer than a day or two to fix.. possibly a complete rewrite of the code to play along with the new system.

But as we all (patiently) wait for our favorite mods to update, now we have ‘IK 2.0’.

From what it presents, it seems to be an attempt of making IKTweaks part of the main game. Offering pretty much complete head to toe FBT (11-point tracking instead of the standard 6-point). It even offers better 3-point (standard VR) and 6-point (head/hands/feet/hip) tracking, fixing how upper arms clip through you.
However.. in the VRChat Modding Community, opinions are mixed. Some they they “like
it”, while others say “I’m staying off VRC until IKTweaks is updated”. And even some saying “RIP FBT users”.
The problem is.. we’re stuck with it until IKTweaks gets fixed and uploaded. And this to me sadly couldn’t come on a worse time, as the script I wanna say to Jero is ready and
I ‘need’ my mods to do this properly. ..Actually I don’t but they would be nice to have.

However there are things I REALLY like about this update, and one of them is the new SDK 3.0 has doubled the StateParameter limit! Instead of it being 118, now it’s 218! Past Benie would had loved this change… if Atherian didn’t mess with the file.
Anyway, make sure you get the latest Avatars 3.0 SDK to take advantage of this.

THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE END IS NEVER THE Buy the Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe END IS NEVER THE END IS

“OH, did you get the Bucket ending?! The Bucket ending was my FAVORITE!!”
Just get The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe edition. Don’t listen to Cookie9’s hurtful Steam review (or their blog that almost looks similar to mine it’s a bit unnerving). Plus if you have the original game from 2013, the new one is on sale for you.
That’s all I’m going to say here. It has the original game, with much more content. Probably already spoiled too much. Woops.
