Exploring Xanadu Day 3 (stopped, for now)

Day 3, didn’t last as long as the last two days (infact I’m back home in Cele right now). Now I don’t know if you guys ever played Warcraft III, and how Arthas followed the whispers Frostmourne (and went insane). Well… Arthas was me yesterday, and Frostmourne, was again the thought of exploring with a wagon. And I think I might be losing it, just like he was.
I tried my best to just focus on the beauty that is this server, but the “is it possible?!” thought has been eating at me all day. I’ll be making another blog post after this one, discussing more in detail.

So back to the whole exploring part, I finally made it to Vrock Landing, which looks stunning; possibly the best looking starter town outside of Glasshollow, and it beats Esteron like there’s no tomorrow. I also saw a quite unique market (close to the one provided by Glasshollow). Trees everywhere, wooden fences designed to keep hostiles out (but guests can come in). A few merchants (one named ‘Adventuring Supplies’). Overall, really nice.

Next (and final highlight of the day), getting to the top of Mount Mortopolis; one of the highest points in Xanadu. Ran into only one troll, but luckily a bridge made it not want to chase me anymore. But at the top.. “breathtaking” would be an understatement. I had a nearly 360* view of the entire server from up here! I could see the fog from below, blocking most of the view distance.
It eventually thinned away. Now typically with mountain tops, I can easily see the server border from one or multiple directions. But with this server, nope. No coastline, just lots and lots of mountains. Huge world is huge.

And that’s about it. I do plan to go back to this server, as there’s so much more to see. But I have to take care of several.. priorities first. As said, I’ll be making a post after this about it.

Exploring Xanadu Day 2, highlights

Day 2 is now complete. Chilling in a structure near Whitefay.
Yesterday was an… interesting day. Lots to talk about, and lots to do.

The main highlight of the day, was getting to Esteron (the SE side of Xanadu). Looking at the map, I could see no clear way to get there. Hoping the locals might know the road layout, I asked. They told me to find a waystone and plot a course there.. I stood there confused, “wait. Did you say ‘plot a course’? But I’m on horseback!” However, since I was near the entrance to Amish Estates, I tried right clicking on the waystone here, and sure enough I see a Plot Course option. WTF?! I’ve never seen this before!! This is interesting.
Typed in ‘Esteron’ in the search bar;
‘No routes found to Esteron!’ it tells me. Quite discouraging, and told them this. Was told “Esteron has yet to be connected to the rest of the network”. One of the people that were working on getting this taken care of, said “it’ll be months before it’s done though”.. ugh, months?! NOW how in the fuck am I going to get there?!
Then someone else mentioned “someone named Soleil stopped here yesterday in a wagon, asking to get to Esteron.”, mentions a bridge somewhere, then he said “he knew how to get there”. I was then told to try and contact this ‘Soleil’ and see if he made it to Esteron. Fortunately for me, he was online (and still enroute there). He was able to give me directions in what he thinks is the way there.
Knowing how this guy could be my only hope to reach that deed, I followed the roads he said to go, and eventually caught up to him. Since I was much faster than his wagon, he said he could hitch my horse to it and let me ride on the back of it. Seeing how Sol was going down (and I don’t like traveling at night), I took him up on his offer.

Two and a half Wurm days later (I’m not kidding, that’s exactly how long it took), we finally reached it! And it paid off too. Esteron looks pretty good compared to the other starter towns I’ve visited.
And as for the person who helped me get here, he too is an explorer. And now he’s going to do his own thing (with his wagon) while in Esteron, and I’m on my own again (including, figuring out how to retrace the steps he took to get here).
…It was here, that the wheels began to turn (if I should do the same (have a wagon instead of a horse)), and started thinking about all the advantages of doing so (mainly the thought of hitched animals don’t have to be branded, as the vehicle takes care of the perms). This would even possibly answer just how I go about living like a nomad.
Looking back at the conversation that I had with Soleil, never once did he say it was a good idea to do so (more like to stick with what I have). But he doesn’t even know what ‘perms’ are, yet he also claims he’s been playing for as long as I have.

But the negatives are also just as important to note. The lack of a view behind me, and the fact bison are so much slower than a 5-speed horse (allowing mobs to catch up to me a lot easier).

The final highlight, was coming back to the ‘mainland’ of Xan. I’ve visited what I could of this ‘island’, even saw the remains of Black Rock Isle’s Xanadu location (Black Rock Isle is originally in Inde). The way Esteron is (currently), none of the deeds here are connected to the main catseye highway network.
Did follow the way out of this ‘island’, only to be “okay, I’m fucked. I have no idea where to go now!” I feared I might have to get B2 to pick me up.
But somehow, luck finds a way, and steered me exactly where I needed to go (after speaking to this RL couple). Though the husband (after being ambushed by a troll) decided he would be all “I’m too scared to help you!”.. nearly died there with 27% health left, and all he said was “thanks”. WTF! Why in the FUCK couldn’t you had helped me kill it!? I was doing the tanking, you could had DPS’d it for me!
What an ass. Left this unhelpful coward behind.

Made it back to the passageway around the mountain as Sol set. Repairing Umawarrior’s gear, when the coward popped up again in local. At this time, I was just glad I was able to heal myself (Life Transfer FTW). He wanted to make sure I found the way that I remembered, and I said yeah.
Sol’s back up, and I made it back to the main roads just before Soldown. Now heading for Vrock Landing (final unexplored starter town). Or at least I will be, on Day 3.

Exploring Xanadu, Day 1 highlights

I’m currently located in a safe house, near Summerholt (it’s NE of me). Since this is apparently where I’ll be logging for the RL night, I think it’s a good time to go over some highlights on Day 1 of exploring Xan on horseback.

Initial highlights: So far I’ve visited 5 starter towns (Linton being the best looking, and Whitefay being.. well, not so good). I do like the fact the starter towns aren’t a no-effort copy, it looks like they try to fit in with their surroundings. Though I can’t say the same about the markets (which look like exact no-effort copies). Linton’s market showed this the best, having two roads that go nowhere.
I also bought a skiller pick from one of their markets (yes I could had made my own, but I’m too lazy). But hopefully with this pick, it will encourage me to start grinding my Mining skill (to where I can start getting my own 70QL ore).

Now I shall discuss the other highlights, starting with the first;
Got to the west side (across from Dragonshearts’s deed), and ended up at a deed that wasn’t named on the map. But after mooring my boat and hopping on my horse, I discovered that this is exactly where I needed to go (to reach the main roads). But going on this pretty sandstone-covered road, my computer seemed to not like it too much; was getting constant freezing (to the point it nearly locked up completely). Not really a good first impression, Xan.
Yet somehow, it recovered (by causing Wurm to CTD with no error). But since then, it has behaved normally. So I don’t know what the fuck caused this insane resource use, but I’m glad it fixed itself.

Second highlight, was heading SW towards Newspring (after visiting Lormere). To hammer in just how big this server is, it took a half an hour to get there. But the journey to get there.. breathtaking vistas of mountain ranges and valleys of trees. I feel Xan has just stolen the coolness factor away from Deli. However, that wouldn’t be fair to Deli (since Xan is 4-times bigger).
Therefore, Deli keeps its title (as the coolest small server), and Xan (-VS- Inde).. there’s no contest, Xan wins (even though Inde would care less, being the oldest PvE server).
There’s also a second part to this– the unique ways of marking specific areas, using hanging lamps (showing the distance in KM), and the use of gravestones (marking POIs like Tundra reservation areas, bridges, and the like).
There was even this one where it said “Have a safe trip!” Seeing this on a gravestone, was just.. hilarity. “Don’t let the troll bite you in the ass!”

Third highlight, crossing the longest bridge in my Wurm life– the Newspring Bridge. What was fucking cool, is this bridge accesses a large island (which has the starter town in its central location). It was also, how far from the mainland I was. I could see the entire SW coastline from the bridge! So cool.

Forth (and final) highlight, was heading to where (I assume) to be the location of where I went to, to buy my Knarr. This ridiculously long E/W highway (accessible from north of Linton), has to be the coolest thing I’ve seen in this game. When I see 1,529 (in meters) until reaching the next deed, it once again shows how massive this server is. I swear, it would likely take two RL hours to get from one side of Xan to the other (without stopping).

But that isn’t the cool part, it’s seeing miles of untouched wilderness along this highway (that you would see IRL along an interstate). No deeds as far as the view distance can see.
Like this one time, I park on the side of the road (to get Umawarrior some grass as she’s getting slow). Acres of lemon trees. No guard towers. No deeds. Very few mobs. This, is the feeling of being on your own (literally). For a game that’s supposed to be multiplayer-based, this is a great refresher of what it feels to be isolated from annoyances.
I loved it. Absolutely, loved it. Great way to clear one’s head (when you’re asocial).

Did eventually arrive at where my Knarr was ‘born’ (using a foot tunnel to access it). At first I was unsure if this was the place (and I had to go over my old screenshots from late 2015). But sure enough, this is the place. I remembered the rough cobble path going along the shore, that B2 dropped me off to go pay for it.
Actually kind of upsets me that the place is gone. But, ehh. It was still good to be able to get here (didn’t think the foot tunnel would had even worked in my favor).

So far, I really like it here in Xan. However, I worry I might be exploring too many things, too quickly (and be done way before what I originally predicted). I also worry I might run out of ‘cool spots’ too quickly (since I’m focusing on seeing all the starter towns, and not anything else). But I’ll try to focus next on following the coastline of the server (once I get done with seeing all the towns).
What I wish I could actually have, is Cindylu (the person I met from the Impalong last year) here on a horse, exploring Xan with me. But she hasn’t been seen in just over two months (and it’s really starting to worry me). I hope to talk to someone in Pristine (before the next Impalong) and figure out where she went.

Spring’s here, and I’m Xanadu bound! ..But problems made it fun

Spring of 1076 is here! Time to explore the final server of my Freedom Isles Server Mega-Exploration Trip. However, I had an unwanted snag I hoped to ‘ignore’ in VRChat (even though I also promised I would try to help him).
The first thing I did was create a thread in the Xanadu sub-forum, asking someone to please brand my horse (once I bring it and myself to the server). Went ingame and saw Dark, and decided to ask them if they knew any nice people (while they were in Xan) that would be willing to do this. Unfortunately, I also was forced to deal with the ‘unwanted snag’ I mentioned earlier; a guy who needs my help in figuring out why his gun is disappearing ingame.
I was recommended Dragonhearts (his actual name is ‘Dragonshearts’), but he was offline. Dark also told me that the guy has multiple alts, and tried to remember a few of them. I told him how I met one of his alts in Deli (near the Inde/Deli boat bridge).
So I tried PMing these three alts of his, but the guy on Discord wanted my attention more (which I gave). Soon I’m getting PM’d by Dark and his father that Dragonshearts is PMing me. It was quite annoying how I couldn’t respond quicker, because of this other guy.

Anyway, he said he would make me a villager in his deed, where I’ll be able to do it myself. Yet he also claims that I won’t need to get to his deed to do it, claiming that I could do it anywhere on the server. Huh, since when did this become a thing? I thought you can only do it on your deed.
So I chose Umawarrior to be the one to explore Xan. Since she failed to give me at least a 4-speed(gave me a 2-speed instead), this is her ‘punishment’. Got her in the cage, and loaded it up in my Knarr. Went South.. would be my mistake and I should had turned around, but I didn’t want to make Dragonshearts wait long for me. Since what he claims could be true, that’s why I went south.
Got to Xan (while dealing with the guy again. Was unable to tell Dragonshearts that I made it over because of this guy, but I got the invite and was a villager of his deed. Then I turned around and went back to Cele, and use it as a quicker way to get to the NW side of Xan (where Glasshollow is).
Was about ready to make the turn south (having reached the island).. again, having to deal with the guy (who now wants to know how to decimate another gun he found, to get it below 20k polys)… on top of that, it’s dinnertime. Ugh.

Back to fully help the guy (telling myself “You got plenty of time to explore Xan, and you agreed to help this guy. Now DO IT”) Sadly, this came to suggesting him to ask the VRChat Discord server. I seriously had no idea what was wrong with the animation (I even watched him do it, to verify he did it right). Even the other gun, this one didn’t disappear when he used the other hand emotes. Everything was so fucked up for him. It actually felt quite upsetting (to me) that I wasn’t able to help him (since he had my full attention).
Told him “this is beyond my level of expertise”, yet it’s like he wasn’t getting the message, thinking I still know how to fix it. I told him how with my latest Best Boi, how I too was having an animation that wasn’t working. Yet he interrupts me, acting like “your problem isn’t mine!” Rude much?
Finally he got the message, and starts acting like “you were my only hope.. you failed me”. *facepalm* Just ask the VRChat Discord server already!

He’s finally out of my hair, and I put myself on ‘vacation mode’ in the Best Boi Discord server, including being in DND (hoping this would deter anyone from bothering me).
I’m sorry guys… but this is “ME TIME”! I’ve been waiting for Wurm Spring to come, it’s finally here, now f off until I get bored with it!
Back in Wurm (fully this time), I made it to Xan. Had a bit of an ‘out of boat’ experience (literally out of my boat when I crossed over). Thankfully it was right next to me, and all I did was wait for the game to sync (a bit of ‘debugging’) and was able to re-embark.
The plan was to go north of Glasshollow (close to the person’s deed, where I bought the mortar and bricks for the redesign project), and ‘set up camp’ there (aka, get the horse out, set up a campfire, warm up my branding iron and then brand the horse there).
I ended up getting lost at the islands that are near Glasshollow, and get in a small canal with a deed to the left of me, and a spot to the right.
I re-premed (thanks to a wolf who just couldn’t fucking stay on its side of the canal). The flat area to the right had a lot more mobs than just that one wolf. But I was able to chop a tree down and got a campfire started. With the area secured, I went back to my boat to unload the cage. I had no idea I would run into that super annoying “this would be bad for your karma and is disallowed on this server”.. so whoever owns this deed, doesn’t allow unloading by guests. FUCK! On top of that, a troll is now standing over the campfire…
I managed to lure the troll away (to a bridge that spanned the small canal) and was able to unload Umawarrior, who wasn’t happy being in that cage for an extended period of time (3.15 damage on the cage).
Finally the branding iron is glowing from heat, and I tried to brand.. no Brand option! WTF?! Assumed it was the fact I was in a perimeter. The problem is the perimeter is everywhere!
I asked CA HELP, and I was told “it has to be on-deed”… no, Dragonshearts said I could do it anywhere! But again, “only on-deed”. So all of this hell I went through, WAS FOR NOTHING?!?!
Dragonshearts, you done fucked up, bud. You gave me wrong information! Luckily for me, he came back on and was quite surprised why it wasn’t working for me, and thought it was probably a permission issue. Pretty sure it wasn’t (since what I was told about it has to be on-deed, was coming directly from a CA). Instead, I tried to follow Xan’s NW coast (in hopes to get to the West coast, to worm my way through the canals to reach his deed).
He asked me to try it again, and I found somewhat of a flat place on a beach/rock mountainous area. Multiple wolves here, and a scorp.. followed by another fucking troll. Wow, this just isn’t my day!
Managed to get my branding iron from the troll, and tried to look for a safer spot. Found one quickly and tried to brand again, still no option.

Going over the Xanadu community map, it seems I never had to follow the West coast. I can turn around, as there’s two canals to the North. These lakes are connected to more canals, with one that will loop back to where I originally was heading. Told Dragonshearts that this is my only option.
He gave me some somewhat understandable ‘hints’ (without just saying “I live around here”. He tells me about looking for something “with the cord in the building”, but I was too busy of making sure I was going the right way, to use my head and try to ask him for some more detailed hints.
A half an hour later, I made it to the canals and followed them south. This is going to be a long and brutal ride for me, I just know it. But this is kind of what I signed up for.
Came to a point where Sol’s going down, and was able to set up camp on a somewhat flat area.

Came back (after getting on as B2 to ask Dark for some more details in the location of Dragonshearts’s place, and he came true, telling me what he believes to be the exact location; said to just look for “a big deed that’s made out of marble” on the left side.
Back on DH, another issue presented itself; thick fog that seems to enjoy hearing me use all caps and choice words. When I got back, it looked like the fog was thinning out.. then it does a dick move and re-thickens! ..Wow! God, Wurm. You can be a total butt sometimes!
I thought for sure it was going to fully thicken up and wait ’till Solset just to spite me, but I swear I could almost hear it saying “HAHAHAHA.. alright alright, I’m done trolling you.” and starts to thin again.
With it thin enough that I can see the SE channel, it was time to get back on the water. So now I can see again, Wurm seemed like it also wasn’t done trolling me (with a light breeze). LMAO.. 12km/h down the channel! (Fuck you, game)

An hour after departing (and sometime after leaving the canal), Sol’s nearly at the horizon and fog is starting to build up (still getting a light breeze by the way). I’m starting to get discouraged (and worried), that either I’ve passed Dragonshearts’s deed, or I might be going the wrong way. Then a stroke of luck happened as I’m passing around this one land mass. What looks like a normal shoreline, turns out to be a large building (with a gate infront), made of marble. Closing in to the point I can read structure names, ‘Dragonshearts’s cottage’ shows up! WOO! I found it! Was able to pass through the gate, and moored inside.
He told me he’s been moving his stuff to a deed he owns in Pristine (for the Impalong next month), and it shows with how barren the place is. Not really a fan of the fact I have to climb just to get on the deed property.
So anyway, I eventually found a few forges and was able to heat up my branding iron. Sure enough, there is now a Brand option. Knew it!
History has now been made (by myself);
1. Being a part of a deed on another server, for the first time.
2. Branding my horse on another server, for the first time (and likely won’t be the last).

Now that the horse is branded, it’s time to plan out a route to start exploring the server on horseback. At this time, my only POI is to visit the close’ish starter town of ‘Lormere’. After that, I’ll have to plan another route. But this is what I should had been planning for, for months now.
One thing I do know, is this is going to take the most time to explore (hopefully) all of Xan, compared to any other server. I also have to compensate for lag, server downtime, and fog. This is the biggest PvE server in the game, and all three could come into play as I’m out there.. and I got to be ready at a moment’s notice to respond to it (while hopefully not being chased by a conga line of mobs).

From where I am, there’s sadly no way to reach Lormere on the East side of the lake (as any road here, stops short). Something tells me, that Dragonshearts doesn’t do much traveling on land.
Only way I see to reach the town, is to cross the lake (by boat) and get to the West side (where I see large main roads that will get me right to it). This means, this will also be my ‘base camp’ of where I’ll keep my boat until I’m done exploring.

Another world-based VRChat update released today

The VRChat devs have ‘graced’ us with another update for the game. And like the last one, it’s world-based. There’s a few things to cover here (where some aren’t even for worlds).
So first off, be sure to get the latest SDK from VRChat’s website. I’m hearing that it’s stable from a (hopeful) reliable source.
Second thing, the devs have enabled (or rather ‘re-enabled’) a feature called “Particle Limiter”. This isn’t enabled by default, as it requires the user to add a file to where one’s log output goes (which is in C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat). There you can create a file called ‘vrchat;config.json’, and use something like Notepad++ to open it.
Go here for more info about it, and what to copy and paste into the file.. Now note this system is in Beta, and may be changed, modified, or removed during future releases. But if this helps with Best Boi meetings (where the lag is.. like having 1-2FPS even with Block Avatars by Default enabled), I’ll be eternally grateful.

The next non-world based change, is Desktop users FINALLY have a Mouse Sensitivity slider!! REJOICE! Finally some love for non-VR people like myself. 🙂

Now it’s time to go over with the world-based updates.
1. When server hopping, worlds have their world size (in KB) on the top left. This is useful for people who enjoy being a part of a large world. It’s also useful for people with potato computers to avoid worlds like that.
2. New scripts added to the SDK (accessible in Unity);
VRC_SyncVideoStream (you can now watch streamed Twitch/YouTube videos ingame)
VRC_VideoScreen (for use with VRC_SyncVideoStream)
VRC_VideoSpeaker (for use with VRC_SyncVideoStream)
3. ‘VRChat Home Kit’ released, where you can make your own customized VRChat Home. Go here to download the kit, and here on how to work with it. Others hope that this could be the start of a series of ‘kits’, one example being a ‘Minigame Kit’, for setting up your own minigames (think of something similar to the late GMod Tower, and picture the minigames in it being a world (or worlds)). This would be a fantastic step in attracting new people into the game (just hope they pack their patience with the increased lag and random disconnects).

Thinking about all of this, this might get me back into working on my world again (haven’t touched it in weeks). Last time I was in it, I was working on a custom-designed house (using the props from the Mega Fantasy Props Pack). But I got fed up with the design (how certain walls weren’t lining up right) and stopped working on it.

Guess who’s back doing VRC models again? ..This guy

There is a far worse thing than feeling like not using one’s common sense (that commissioned avatars would be allowed in the catwalk event), and that’s boredom. Boredom enough to rewrite parts of old (but recent) blog posts.
How did said boredom happen (that eventually encouraged me to get back into Unity)? Literally what I said last week — there’s nothing I can do (in Wurm) until Spring 1076. Luckily I won’t have to wait long (approximately a week and a half).
Also, I’ve been going over that whole mess last week (it’s literally been a week since the person that was doing the commission, decided to crush my hopes and dreams). But someone I spoke to, attempted to help me get over this crap. And in a way, he actually helped. I don’t know how, but he did.
And a lot of shit has happened since then. Sadly, none of it has given me a reason to rejoin VRChat (as none of it has given me a working avatar that I want, and feel proud to use as my main avatar).

Started out as trying to do what I nearly paid $20 for, just to see if I could do it myself (even with the fluff, maybe I could get it to look right). After getting help with making the triangle prop to rotate 45* in Blender (where I can resize it better in Unity), I had pretty much what I wanted. The only thing I needed to do was retexture the model.
Sadly, it seems adding the triangles to the tail (and having them follow the tail wag animation), seems quite impossible to fix (with my current knowledge level of 3D modeling).
I’ve spoken to Foxes, and several other people (that he recommended). One of them gave a suggestion that I actually wish it worked (but didn’t), and one actually tried to charge me to fix the problem. And at this time.. I think I just might be desperate enough to go this route.
The VRChat Discord server believes it could be an issue with ‘weight painting‘ (an alien phrase), and how I would need to ‘paint the bones’ to get the triangles to fit. After learning just what it is, the (bare basics) of what the colors represent, and how to paint the mesh, I discovered the only red of the Best Boi model was on the tip of the tail. I also brought in the triangle, which had the same blue paint.
So now I’m officially CLUELESS. I would assume, that if it’s the same color, it wouldn’t be doing what it’s doing! But then I’m told I would have to add a bone to the triangle, and then paint the mesh. Yet what they don’t know, is the model completely fucking BRICKS itself after exporting it from Blender!! None of the animations work, even after I copied the settings over!
At this point, my only option is to pay that guy to do this for me. Because I doubt adding a bone to the bottom of the triangle -only- (without weight painting it to the Best Boi model), won’t help me. I’ll still try it, though.
I kind of want to blame Kibble for not doing the Best Boi model through Blender, but he probably had his reasons for not doing so (probably felt he had more freedom through Maya and 3Ds Max).

I tried other alternatives (to move away from the Best Boi model, and go with something that would possibly work better (an actual dragon model). Found the ‘Draling‘ model (made by someone on the Best Boi Discord server). But this thing would prove to be next to impossible to work with.
First off, the model is made out of segmented meshes (the legs, arms, chest, all its own mesh). Even the tail is its own mesh. This really opened the door for just how customizable this is (even in Unity).
But it came with a ‘pretty steep cost’, in the form of a whopping 87k polys! I managed to decimate it in Blender, and got it down to 17k. But this bricked the model even more than the Best Boi model. Even when I set it as a Humanoid rig, it was stuck in a T-Pose. And the only thing that was the actual avatar, was the eyes.
Spoke to the creator, who believed the decimation fucked up the weight painting. Back then, I didn’t know how to access the feature. And honestly, I lost my taste for the model (as the person was talking about how she made the rear “so thicc” (and laughing about it)).
This is supposed to be a male dragon, not some sex symbol. 😛

Finally, I tried the Kobold model from VRCMods.com. Seeing how it already has a ribbed chest pattern (similar to a reptile), that it shouldn’t be that hard to ‘dragonfy’ it to my needs. However, something looked.. off.
When asking if anyone’s figured out where all the parts are of the texture sheet (and giving the link to someone), that same someone said “it looks like a girl”. I’m thinking “uhhh, well it doesn’t have boobs, so it can’t be”. But the more I looked at it (especially the eyes)… they were right.
In addition, the ‘process of elimination’ (coloring different parts to figure out what they are), this was more troublesome than it’s worth. There are a lot of black (the eyelid), and dark green (the eyebrows).

Going back to the Best Boi model, Erodac came through for me! He pretty much gave me a ‘second tail‘ to serve as what the tail scales are ‘glued’ to (and weight painted the 4th scale to be around the paint of the tip of the tail). All I needed to do was set up another Dynamic Bone and copy the settings over of the tail wag animation.
With this, I got rid of the bricked BB model from Blender. Really wish I could had gotten the animations fixed, because that would had been a major step in learning more about Blender.
All there was left to do, is the final touches, and the retexturing (had FlowBurn doing this for me, in an exchange for getting the last plushie). The final touches were using the claw model from the Draling model (that I decimated), as tiny claws for the arms and wings (to closer represent the 2D pic). The wing claws (as I call them) would prove to be my second hurdle of the model, acting as the parent for most of the wing bones, making it impossible to do a simple wing flap animation.
Erodac came through for me again, with that regard. Unfortunately, it’s still not possible to animate properly with the claws (as they refuse to move with the wings). Instead, I settled with setting up four dynamic bones (one for each wing bone hub). He also showed me that copying the settings over from CATRigTail2, the wings would be blocked from going through the body by the left and right hand colliders.
One last thing I wanted to do (add two teeth sticking out of the lower jaw). This would prove to be more trouble than its worth (as I couldn’t get the angle right). Decided to scrap the idea.

The next day, retexturing was completed, and it looks great! BenieTheDragon Boi is nearly ready! 😀 As a bonus, he figured out how to hide the fluff from the arms, legs, the tail, and the ears! WOO! No more ‘furry’ look for me! The only thing he couldn’t remove is the fluff of the neck (which he simply rextextured it to look like scales).
I love it, I absolutely love the texturing work. All I need to do now, is tone down the colors (because people will likely complain about how bright the red is), set up an eye emission, and upload it! This was actually one of the easiest parts of the entire process. All I had to do was copy the brightness value from Red Boi. Doing the emission took a bit longer, as I had to exclude certain things from being black.
Soon, BenieTheDragon Boi was uploaded, and I got to show it off to the world.. while they showed me just how low they went, getting the smug bastard’s avatar.
Ehh, whatever. Now I have my OWN dragon boi, that I made! 😀 Of course, this thing would not had been possible without a few mentions;
-Blaze, for somehow encouraging me to get back to work.
-Foxes, for the horns and the scale models.
-Zecon, for the Draling model (which included the claw model).
-Erodac, for fixing the tail and the wing claws.
-FlowBurn, for the awesome retexture (and being able to hide the fluff).
Huge.. HUGE thank you to these five for the help and advice. I love you all (no homo). 🙂

The great Wurm Derby of 1075 (and why I ‘signed up’)

When living in Southern Indiana, I have to deal with Kentucky’s news (and how they’re very big on horse racing). I care very little about that sport (and more of the Indy 500).
But when the head of the GMs of Wurm wants to do a derby, I jump for it. Pretty ironic, right? Well what if I told you, it had a much-wanted incentive?
However, it isn’t without a twist (just like everything else with Wurm).

So what’s going to happen, is around 7-8pm this evening, Enki’s going to come on and do a series of quizzes. Who gets them right, wins a ticket to enter an “elite race” (as he puts it).
“Surprise, you got to earn it!” But the race itself isn’t what’s enticing me, it’s getting 10 free sleep powder for winning a ticket. ..That’s all I really give a fuck about. How I ate those damn things like candy (at last year’s Impalong), I very much need these for next month’s Pristine Impalong.
However, I feel my chances of winning it, are pretty much the same chances of participating in yesterday’s Best Boi catwalk event …(zero, zippo, zilch.. nada).
The quiz questions are going to be speed-based, and be about Wurm’s history (since the launch in 2004). So yeah.. no chance. Might as well wave goodbye to it.

But, if an act of God were to happen to help me win a ticket, and be able to participate in this “elite race”; with my skill of maintaining a 5-speed horse’s top speed (without stopping) for 5+ minutes, I might have a chance.
As for a traditional race, the following prizes are to be handed out for the three top finishers;
First place gets a large magical chest.
Second place gets a small magical chest.
and Third place gets a Cyclops statue.

That’s about it. Please wish me luck (of winning a ticket), or not. That’s up to you.

Astroneer’s 1.0 release date known during E3

This is surprising news (even though Net Neutrality is dead). But Astroneer. now has an official release date, scheduled for December of this year.
So check out this pretty awesome looking trailer.. and then watch it again with a keen eye, as it has teasers of what could possibly come with the 1.0 launch.
EDIT: An exclusive interview has been released with Inside Xbox sitting down with some of the System Era team, going over the E3 Trailer with more detail, and also discussing the future of Astroneer.

And from my analysis of the trailer, I’m seeing these things;
-A possible new intro with the space station flying through the system, that might explain why Terran was picked. Though I’m to easily assume, we (as a species) know about this system (and made the terrain tool to work with the specific soil composition of each planet), in hopes to (eventually) colonize the system for the human race.
–In the intro scene, there seems to be a small nebula. Is this a sign we might be able to harvest resources in space?
-Black Hole-like structure (at the end of the intro scene) popping up (and forming) on the left side of Terran. Many theorize this could be a wormhole to another universe.
-A new ‘going down to Terran for the first time’ animation, actually seeing the space station you’re leaving as you’re getting ready to burn through Terran’s atmosphere.
-Aggressive Flora on the surface (ones that will attempt to smash you into a fine paste).
-A new platform to store multiple enclosed 1 seat cockpits…? Is this a sign that you might be able to use these to launch back to the space station?
-Bore heads (for the large rover)! However, this could very well be the Drill (which already exists ingame). But maybe perhaps, there will be a new ‘bore mode’ where the rover can change its pitch.
-The landing pad (that you get when you first touch down on Terran), is now a raised platform, and would be used for the shuttle.
-New platforms (one that looks like a house, and another that looks like an Inserter from Factorio.. possibly player housing, and automation).
-A possible story, with purple alien life forms (unknown if they’re hostile).

So, this is exciting. Finally having a story– a purpose to this game, I’m looking forward to. I’m also interested in this player housing, and automation.
As always, you can see the Astroneer Development Roadmap here, where it mentions several of these things.

E3 2018 Gaming News Roundup – any interesting games this year?

The mother of all video game/tech conventions (Electronic Entertainment Expo(E3)) is now ongoing. And while I haven’t been following the news (because of Wurm).. and who the hell really wants to hear the overhyped fluff (and CGI game trailers that won’t be in the actual game) that come out of the mouths of greed-driven AAA publishers, lying through their teeth with: “we’re doing this for the gamers”?
But, I’ll do it anyway, as there are several games that have caught my eye and deserve my time to talk about (be them good or bad).
Yesterday was primarily Bethesda’s day to shine, and since I typically talk about sequels, prequels, or even new games (either part of the IP or with an entirely new one) that caught my eye, five games have won my time to talk about. Four of these are new games (from its IP), and the last (but also the one I’m looking most forward to), is a sequel.

Game: Fallout 76
Game Type: Next installment (though it could be its own game)
Trailer Link(s): Teaser | E3 Trailer | Gameplay Trailer
Developer: Bethesda
Publisher: Bethesda
Release Date (ETA): November 14th, 2018
Discussion: Rumors have been going out since the first teaser trailer, hinted at an ‘always online’ gameplay mechanic; featuring 4-player co-op. Fears that Bethesda has “lost their identity” with the IP, and the hatred of forced to have a constant connection games (since the shitstorm of SimCity 5… but hey, “that’s an EA thing”), it was Bethesda’s time to.. confirm the rumors.
However, a few trailer breakdown videos are showing that it may not be as bad as people are thinking.
1. ‘Four times bigger’ than Fallout 4.
2. ‘A dozen players’, instead of hundreds or even thousands (with the world being bigger, running into another player might be rare).
3. Though it’s possible to grief other settlements with nukes, exploring nuked sites award good stuff (with stronger enemies).
4. They plan to do everything humanly possible, to curb the threat of toxicity and trolling.
Final Thoughts: All I can say, is I hope the Fallout 76 universe is non-canon (aka not being part of the official Fallout lore). The vault itself, that’s fine. But what happens in the game, I pray doesn’t show up if a Fallout 5 is around the corner.
I’ll probably pass on this, though. Haven’t even completed Fallout 4 yet (due to a forced monitor resolution and hardcoded controls).

Game: The Elder Scrolls 6 (yes, it’s a thing!!)
Game Type: Next installment
Trailer Link(s): E3 Trailer
Developer: Bethesda
Publisher: Bethesda
Release Date (ETA): *Unknown, predicted by 2019-2020, or further*
Discussion: After MANY years, it’s finally official! Because if I see another god damn Skyrim port, it’ll be too– wait. I’m getting reports that Bethesda have.. just released Skyrim (titled ‘Very Special Edition’) for… you got to be kidding me. FUCKING ALEXA?!?!
Okay, Bethesda. You’re going too far!
Going back to what I was talking about, the trailer seems to show a small seaside town (with an ocean on the right). It seems we might be going to High Rock (and hopefully Hammerfell gets included with it). Then again it could also be in Valenwood.
However, some say that this “could be anything” (as it doesn’t have an official location), and this trailer could be nothing but a temp placement. And they could be right.
Final Thoughts: One trailer isn’t really going to cut it for me. I want to see more.

Game: Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot (Possible VR exclusive)
Game Type: *It’s never known with the Wolfenstein franchise*
Trailer Link(s): E3 Trailer
Developer: Bethesda
Publisher: Bethesda
Release Date (ETA): 2019 *Unknown month*
Discussion: Taking place in Paris, France; 1980 (if the US didn’t win World War II). The game seems to be happening in the same timespace as The Old Blood and The New Order.
And this time, you will not be playing as BJ, but as a freelance hacker who decides to help the French Resistance. As a hacker, you have the power to literally take over the Nazi war machine (and use it against them). Mmmm.. the smell of roasted Nazi in the morning.
And what’s better, you’ll feel you’re controlling the machine (as this is based in VR)!
Final Thoughts: I’m glad Bethesda is putting more funding into VR, but it’s currently unknown (at this time) if this will be a VR-exclusive title(and will use full body tracking).

Game: DOOM Eternal
Game Type: Sequel
Trailer Link(s): E3 Trailer
Developer: Id Software
Publisher: Bethesda
Release Date (ETA): *Unknown, predicted by 2019*
Discussion: Ohhhh… this is one sequel that I’m sure the demons in hell do NOT want to hear about! Even Satan himself is probably checking his closet, praying someone immensely powerful, and full of hatred for all things demonic, doesn’t pop up in it.
You obviously know who I’m talking about; the father of the PC FPS genre, the protector of good, and demon asskicking extraordinaire….
THE MOTHER****ING DOOMGUY!! *E1M1 music plays*
Or as he’s known to demons, the ‘Doomslayer’. And the trailer, while not showing much in gameplay, gives a glimpse of what’s to come. Enemies from DOOM II (that didn’t make the cut with 2016’s DOOM reboot), might be in this game. There might even be these strange crab-like creatures, which what looks like either something to stab you with, or a powerful laser on their back.
Whatever’s the case, the time to RIP AND TEAR is coming back. On August 10th during Quakecon 2018, there will be a gameplay reveal during their livestream.
Final Thoughts: Ohh BABY, I cannot wait for this one. Still made by the legendary Id Software, you know it’s going to be good.
However, seeing as the Doomslayer is using the original suit from 1994, I say this could be a prequel (perhaps between the timeline between DOOM 2 and (2016’s)DOOM), where at the end, the player gets to go against The Titan.

Game: Just Cause 4
Game Type: Next installment
Trailer Link(s): E3 Trailer | World Exclusive Gameplay(Feat NerdCubed)
Developer: Square Enix
Publisher: Square Enix
Release Date (ETA): End of this year
Discussion: Another Just Cause game, this early? Why? .. Just cause!
The favorite “fuck with everything, because I can” franchise is getting a new game. This time, Rico’s going to South America to face his greatest enemy yet; ‘The Black Hand’. Except, this isn’t war.. this is a battle for survival.
New things added, is a tornado, wind streams, and brand new (“why is this even a thing?! .. Oh, just cause!”) grapple mods (toggable balloons, and thrusters can be welded to grapple hooks).
Final Thoughts: More videos, please (especially ones from Dan).

.
And that’s all I can cover (for now). If I get any new info with any of the games I discussed here (or another game that catches my eye), I’ll be updating this post. Because E3 has just started.

I want a VRChat Avatar Commission — Changed My Mind

It seems that life thinks I haven’t had enough drama in my life for awhile, so it created some in the form of the person who’s planning to do my commission request, DMing me.
The person started the DM saying “so, I was thinking”, and I’m thinking “oh no, is there a problem with the commission? Do I have to pay you more now?”
There was indeed a problem with it, but not of “I need more details of what you’re looking for” (or) “I’m unable to do the model for you”, it was “You can’t use this for the catwalk event as you didn’t make it, it wouldn’t be fair.” Yet the person said “I’ll still make the model”.

The…whole purpose of asking for the commission, was for the catwalk event. I am paying you to do the work for me… yet you tell me it would had never worked, all because of some invisible rule (that I never heard Twitchin or even Kibble say)?!
Plus, I expected to see “do you still want me to make the model?” (as it would be more of an ‘adult’ response), yet instead you tell me (in my extended sarcastic ways) “but, you’re still going to pay me, so I’ll make it anyway. I still crushed your hopes and dreams, though, and I’m not sorry about that.”
I didn’t know what to think, when I was told (in the first paragraph). I went silent for 10-15 minutes. Except “this was still MY idea, you know!” Then it turned to anger, thinking “okay, fine. Then I guess you don’t get my $20. You should had kept your fucking MOUTH CLOSED if you wanted the money.”

It took longer until I started thinking about what was said, and that’s when the anger turned towards myself (and my obvious failure to use common sense). Just because it wasn’t mentioned by those two, I still should had thought of what would happen if I actually had won, and was asked “did you make that model?”.
That’s not all. The person was also the one that indirectly gave me the idea to do this (after the mention of the catwalk event). The person’s waving their hands, saying “I’ll do commissions for reasonable prices.” It was my fault for assuming “hey, I could get that Best Boi I wanna do, made by someone else for the catwalk event. Yes!”
And with that, I tried to tell the person “Since you feel it wouldn’t be fair (and you’re probably right), then cancel the commission please.” No response, and suddenly I remembered just how ‘fucky’ Discord is for them (and know they wouldn’t see it). So I have to track them down (again), just to tell them “deal’s off. Sorry.”

Later that day, I got someone that helped to track the person down. Got up to them, and asked them to please check their DMs. They claim they can’t do that when on VR, but said they would. That’s all I wanted to hear, and I logged off before they could say anything else. And I’m probably not going to play VRChat for a very long time (until I get over this, which doesn’t feel possible).
Never did get a response from the person, who I assume is quite disappointed in me. But that’s fine, because I’m more disappointed at myself.

To me, not using basic common sense (that commissioned avatars wouldn’t be fair to use), I don’t deserve to play, or even have that commission made as a personal avatar. I’m going back to my stubborn ways of “if I can’t do it myself, it doesn’t get made”.
*sighs* …I wasn’t even in it for the Steam gift card. I.. just wanted to feel appreciated (even with a commissioned avatar). Not to mention, I was also trying to lose the ‘furry’ look (ridiculed by low IQ teens for ‘being a furry’ (when I’m actually a scalie)). Folks, just because I like the Best Boi model, doesn’t make me a furry. I’m not even into the whole fursuit crap; I wouldn’t be caught dead as one.

But in other ways, I’m actually glad I didn’t go through with the commission. As I said before, it was because of desperation. It was all because of that damn cap, that I went through so much hell with. It would had been a lot easier, if the person didn’t make the background the same fucking color as the hat itself.
I just don’t have the patience for this kind of thing. Plus, what would others think of me, when they saw this thing popping up? Would they feel “I’m happy that you’re happy”, or “you’re an embarrassment”? I personally am fine with commissioned avatars, but I don’t know how others would react.
It’s easy to say “don’t care what others think, only care about what you think”. But what I think, isn’t just getting my money’s worth, but being respected.

As you can see, it’s going to take a lot of convincing to get me back to VRChat. And no one has time for that.
But that’s fine. VRChat’s boring anyway.
