‘Cele Romp’ – Indy Romp 2.0, and a horse permission suggestion

Ever had an itch that you just can’t seem to scratch, no matter what way you try to reach it? My itch is wanting to explore Xanadu (since we have creature cages). But as I said before, Wurm Summer (of 1075) is almost over (and I do NOT enjoy Wurm Winter, when I can’t fucking see the god damn road from the ‘grass’). And as much as I try to tell myself that, a part of me is acting like an immature little brat saying “I want to explore NOW!!!”

So I decided to explore my home server instead (to (hopefully) see areas I didn’t see, when I first explored the server). I also coupled this with grinding AH (grooming every non-hostile animal I see). And with the completion of the ‘Cele Romp’ (going around the server’s coast in a mostly clockwise pattern), I went from 25 to 28. I realize I still got a long-ass road ahead of me (to get to 41, which will unlock “It has a certain spark in its eyes” (living 50% longer than normal)). Working up to that point, will unlock being able to see all the neutral/negative traits of a creature.
Wurm isn’t going to make it easy, as this is sadly one of those “grind it when you can, but don’t make it your main focus” skills (just like taming(to make it easier to tame my ‘owned’ horse cross-server), and woodcutting(higher QL logs). Two other skills I need to work on).

Before the Cele Romp started, I did a mini-romp while waiting for anyone to answer my request on the forum to buy a 5-speed female. Found someone who lives in Cele, and isn’t too far away from me! How fortuitous for me! Instead of loading up the creature cage in my Knarr, I rode all the way up to K22 (where the guy said he lives).
Passing over the Kami Canal bridge (and according to the map), I had reached the spot (he claimed he had boat access south of it), yet what I saw was quite disbanded (apart from two named Knarrs). My contact said he was going to try to find me, but decided on directing me North to ‘Blacksmith’ (the large deed that is somewhat taxing on my computer).
Rode up there, and met the guy and the horse (black, and named ‘Umawarrior’ (never heard of that horse name in my Wurm life)). Paid 50c for it (a lot more fair of a price compared to 1s 50c in Indy, during Day 2 of my romp on that server).
Getting back was ‘quite fun’. Getting lost, it’s becoming night, mobs on my ass, while making sure she was behind me. Eventually made it back home the same way I went there.
Now she’s pregnant (with Emilkiss being the suitor), and I await a (hopeful) 5-speed. But with my luck, I’ll likely end up with a 4-speed. But she’s scheduled to give birth the first day of Wurm Fall.
And now I’m like H2O Delirious at times (in this video), yelling “GIVE BIRTH!!” at her.

So the Cele Romp started by going south and taking the Southern Cele Highway (War’s highway) all the way until I reached a point I went along the coast, passing Port Alora and places like that. Nearing the area with the crater lakes, there’s a new catseye highway that connects them to the SW coast. What I didn’t know, is this is the same highway that goes all the way to near my deed.
Going up the West coast, the only thing that really changed was the islands with the interesting man-made structures, and a second bridge connecting to the large island with all the Skyrim-themed deed names (which are mainly gone (‘Kynesgrove’ shockingly still exists), and replaced with some new ones).
While on the West coast, is the first time I logged (to wait for Sol to rise) on a deed. I was worried (just like I was on Deli) that someone would take him. Then I remembered what happened on Pristine, having that horse that I was able to lead while on a deed. Chanced it on that thought, and it worked again. And THIS is why permissions are awesome, people.
Speaking of permissions, someone gave me an alternative thought that just might work (when taking my horse cross-server). More on this, after explaining the romp.

Trying to access the NW coast, there’s a bridge that goes over the mouth of ‘The Salsa Straits’. There was this large flat area (smack on the NW side of the server), full of mobs (but has a guard tower). Had to lead several crocks away from some bulls in need of grooming.
While on the NW side, I saw a 3-speed named horse. No one taking care of it. Not branded. Decided against taking it (as I rather have a 4, or even a 5-speed).

Now on the NE side of the server, with the Northmere Desert to the South. Pretty nice area, as always. But nothing I haven’t seen until I got to the East coast, with a pretty interesting looking disbanded deed (with two sets of bridges). This actually looks somewhat similar to the spot where I found a wild horse in Exo. Was a bit confusing on figuring out how to get down and continue following the coast (I was on this top bit, and I wasn’t seeing the ramps leading down to the coast). Plus there were a few trolls in the area that I had to outsmart.
Mountains now becoming a problem as I continue down the East coast, and deeds blocking the way of a road that’s supposed to be accessible (according to the map). The fun of an explorer.
On the other side of this mountain, was a 2×2 shack with another 3-speed right outside of it. This one was cared for, and had a saddle on it. I could had easily taken it, but unlike some people, I decided not to. If it was a 4-speed however, I wouldn’t care if a GM cared for it; it would’ve been mine.

I’m now entering more familiar areas as I start to approach the south side of the server. I try to hug the East coast as far as I could, but the mountains eventually won out, and I had to go around a few of them.
Soon I start to close in on Kami Canal. I guess, it’s time to go home. But instead of taking the familiar routes to get back, I take ‘the scenic route’ that’s just outside of White Wolf Watch. But before I could make the first turn, I had two trolls suddenly popping up (with a wolf and a bear). There was also a guard tower for them to play with. Anything to keep them busy long enough for me to get away, I’m fine with. I’m not here to kill, I’m here to get my AH up.
This ‘shortcut’, had me follow a series of single tile roads (that I would had said absolutely no to, if angry was still around (and we didn’t have horses)). Found a nice spot next to a guard tower to rest for the night, which would be the final time I set the campsite up.
The rest of the trip, was just oodles of fun. The mobs in this forest of death (and decaying roads), are breeding like rabbits. Several times, I couldn’t stop for anything (as I had a parade of mobs chasing me). See this guard tower in the middle of this death forest, and I’m thinking “I should be safe here”. LOLOL was I so WRONG, and the trolls here really made me realize this. I was forced to run past this fake point of rest.

Thankfully I see another one in a small’ish square area, that I was able to catch my breath. Can you imagine a newbie thinking it would be a good idea to go through this? It would be the last thought they would have, before death by several trolls (some stronger than others). So why did I go through this death trap, you ask? Lol.. I thought it would be a short cut to the other side of Shallow Lake. Let’s just say, I won’t be attempting that again.

So I’m on the NE side of Shallow Lake. Went around the edge, my deed slowly starting to appear on the other side. I’ve been here before, but there’s this picture that someone shared that shocked me. I don’t know what year this map was created (but I’m guesstimating within the first month since the PvE servers outside of Indy opened), and the area looks a hell of a lot different than it does now. Even this lake, it showed there was once an island (and the area that I saw, that eventually became where I would move to, didn’t exist yet).
And also, this lake had an official name. I can barely read the lettering (with how bold the text is), but if I was to make a guess, it was named ‘Sunrise Lake’.

The desert to the East of me, has now become where I got my AH to 28. Not much else to say, except going around the southern half right to my deed.

.
And that completes the romp. It was a lot of fun, but it still didn’t get that itch. But again, there’s nothing that I can fucking DO about it until Wurm Spring of 1076.
With that said, I will now go over what I said about permissions. This basically started from a debate in GL-Freedom over forced group content in Wurm (such as sermons for priests). One of them attempted to jump my ass over something I said, but saw I was actually agreeing with them. I then told them about how much money I would have to spend to get a deed on every server.
The person then gave an alternate suggestion, of picking trusted people that would be willing of branding my horse (and turning over perms to me), for a nominal fee. However, the person never explained how such a system would be sustainable. So I made a thread (here), asking that question. I expected more responses (than just one), and I’m not getting them. The one that did, suggested it should be based similar to how some people sell horses (buying a key to unlock the horse). But instead of keeping the key, you can return it to get your renter’s fee back.

I like the idea of going to a server with my horse, and asking “could I get someone to brand my horse and turn perms to me? I’ll pay a reasonable offer”. It would cost a lot less in the long term, than wasting 25s (and 44c) for a deed on every server. Not to mention, less of a headache on my part.
I know a few that might be willing to do this service– Muse (Deli), and Serraphine (Pri). As for Exodus, Release and Xanadu, I have no idea who might be willing to do this.
I’m also aware that I won’t be able to use the same horse forever (because aging and the random chance of a ven dying as soon as I take it out of the creature cage), and I’ll have to pay that nominal fee again for a new 4 or 5-speed.

The creature cage: a ‘hype-free’ analysis (and more)

Personal testing has resumed today. Spent some of the day on VRChat (while watching WurmClock, wanting to do this in the early hours of the morning). With 0300 hitting, I closed VRChat out and got in Wurm. Decided to groom everyone while continuing to wait for Sol to rise.
Morning eventually broke, put Emilkiss back in the cage and loaded it into my Knarr.

So here is what I’ve learned about the cage (completely);
Good things…
-Can be used to ship an animal from your deed, to another server.
-Can be used to ship a purchased animal (that you bought on another server) to your deed.
-Can be used to move good animals between servers (when moving to a new server).
-Can be used to ship leadable animals that cannot swim (eg: bison).
-Traits transfer for ridable animals with traits (horse/hell horse/bison).
-The cage keeps its permission settings cross-server (even on someone’s deed), similar to a vehicle (boat/cart).

Bad things…
-Animal permissions don’t transfer between servers (no (that I’d hoped to see) “It has been branded by and belongs to the settlement of {deed name} in {server name}”), making the horse have the same mechanics as a wild horse.
-Cannot be renamed (even while tamed) while on another server (because no permissions). You have to ship it back to your deed to rename it.

I was really hoping to see some kind of nametag (or a special kind of branding) that you could attach to the horse, that would show the above info (the deed name, and what server it came from). Maybe it’ll come in a future update… but I’m not going to hold my breath.
And because of what happened at Green Dog (how it was night, and I was scared that if I logged out, someone would steal the horse (because of no permissions)), I went home. I also got to see the creature crate works just like a vehicle (of keeping its permissions), even on a deed. At least something works in my favor.

I then wrote a new post on the forum (about all of this), as a suggestion, and headed home. As you can see from it, I got a single response claiming it’ll “only cost 10s a month” to do this (to put a deed on every server in the game, including the PvP ones of Chaos), yet the person isn’t factoring in the initial founding cost (which I was told is 4s and 21c). Since there’s 7 PvE servers (that I would only go to), it would cost me a whopping 25s and 44c in total (which would be more expensive than my rare 2H axe), and doesn’t include my current deed.
25s. Just rub that into your mind, with how unpredictable the Euro to USD conversion rate is. This could be upwards of $50 coming out of my pocket, for ingame currency. And this doesn’t include the 6s I would have to come up in two months from the date they’re founded (plus more to cover the upkeep of my current deed).
Also, what in the hell do I name them? ‘Dragontail Hideaway Horse Park’? And wouldn’t people question why I’m suddenly founding a deed on every server? It would feel like a fucking embarrassment, all because I want to explore on horseback (with my own horse), without fear of having it stolen by another player.
Sure, there’s also the safer means of finding a guard tower on the side of a road and dropping my tent down (and hitching the horse to it) to prevent theft. This would even work (and counter most of my bickering), if I was allowed to put my tent down in someone’s deed. But this is currently not possible, as you can’t even put the tent down in the fucking perimeter.

There’s also a final thing that keeps eating at me– unrelated to this BS (and I made a second forum post about this in the forum of a question). I need to get a 5-speed female (and then ‘euthanize’ all of the horses that I believe to be 2-speed or below). I would have a higher chance of getting a 5-speed offspring, that I can use as my cross-server exploration horse.
I also desperately need to work on my Animal Husbandry, as I’m one skill point away from checking if a horse is a 5-speed (though without knowing of any possible speed penalties that are very important to know). Because I want to have a purebred 5-speed, with no negative traits.

And that’s about it. Saying “I’m not going to explore until the devs do what I want, because I’m a special snowflake and my opinion matters”, is childish. I’ll do my best to work around these issues, starting with culling my horse herd a bit and then purchasing a 5-speed female (while also working on grinding AH).

.
EDIT: The trait check has been completed by War, which has surprising results.
First off, the majority of my bred horses are 2-speed. And its to be expected when you breed a 5-speed with a wild horse (that has no traits).
The surprising results, are none of them (even the diseased one) have any neutral or negative traits. So that means, the conditions of the deed are quite ideal for breeding. Though I thought for sure some of them would’ve had the “It looks constantly hungry” trait (which would explain why grass is being eaten faster than I remember when living on OR).

The mine is secured / “Bugs” with the creature cage (that weren’t)

Quite the busy day yesterday was (in Wurm), from the anniversary update, to publicly humiliating myself in Global Kchat assuming the new creature cage had a major game-breaking bug (when the answer just needed to be led to me). But in my defense, I had no one telling me the solution.
On top of it, there’s a new addition to the deed (that I felt didn’t need its own blog post); seems I ‘found’ angry.. more like his boats, parked near where Tulsi’s shack was. It’s pretty obvious that he used Redminer’s account to do this (as his own account hasn’t been on in 10 days).

Ok, moving on. I made six support beams, and got the wooden mine door to as high as my woodcutting skill can currently go (44’ish), which gives a strength value of 4600 when I placed it over the mine entrance. This was all while I had Luckydog in local, who was working hard on War’s highway. He was telling me a few things about the area.. even about a pretty ‘comforting’ thing to know (with my current age and health), of how he had a heart attack three years ago. He’s also in his late 60’s, which means he’s as old as my parents.
Anyway, I reinforced what walls I feel someone could possibly tunnel through. And so, the mine is secured! I’ll have to monitor the door monthly (pretty much the same time of getting on to throw another month into upkeep).

Then it was time to build the creature cage. Even though it was doable, a 41% creation chance with 71 Carp (yet I pulled it off the first time), and last second fails, plagued the continuing process. Eventually got it completed, though! When telling local, both War and Lucky wanted to see the cage. So I loaded it up in my wagon and dropped it near the southern canal (on the road) for them to see. I really like the model, though I don’t understand why it doesn’t have a bottom. But ehh, as this is the thing that I’ve wanted since I started exploring on horseback (to enable taking my horse cross-server), then who the hell CARES?! πŸ˜€
It’s testing time. Yes I promised I was going to get into the test server (to properly test the creature crate), but the Best Boi model being released was a hell of a lot more important to me (at the time). But now I can test on my own horses (in realtime).
I learned that the crate has to be unloaded before allowing an animal (which made me learn that unloading in the middle of the ocean (after crossing servers) wouldn’t work).
Loaded my best horse in, and saw a quite disturbing message pop up in my face;
‘The venerable fat Briskabbas is venerable, and may die if it crosses to another server.”
Wait.. MAY DIE if it crosses?! WHAAAT?! This wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes!!
Asked what the hell this meant, and it seemed like no one knew. I asked War, and he says that it’s a warning about the animal being ven, and it has a 50/50 chance of surviving the trip cross-server.
I went around the deed, looking for a younger horse that I could test this with. But the youngest I had was an old diseased (attached to my wagon). The majority of them are venerable. So I got Briskabbas out and gave him a hug– there’s no way I’m going to sacrifice my best horse! He also wasn’t happy about it, and kicked the cage in anger.
Instead I did the test on my other 5-speed, Emilkiss (who’s also a ven). Was able to load him and the cage into my Knarr with no issue, and set sail for Deli. I was hoping I could stay there for a few days (to give the cage a proper test run).
Crossed over to Deli, and checked the cage.. praying it wasn’t going to be empty. And Emilkiss was still there! SUCCESS!! A horse I owned from my deed.. on another server!!
Turned East and sailed down the coast towards the point that I originally started exploring this server. Found a redesigned Insane Dragon Inn (with a brand new lighthouse on the other side of the canal entrance). Seems Deli has been quite busy.
Parked and moored, and attempted to unload the creature cage, opened it up and right clicked on Emilkiss … and saw no ‘Unload Creature’ option. FUCK!! ALL OF THAT HYPE.. gone!
Thought “maybe it’s just a permission thing” and checked the ground. Sure enough I was in the perimeter of a deed named “Ago’s Legacy”. So I loaded the crate back and continued following the coast, until I reached a place I was confident enough it was out of range of any deeds. I also was getting the boat stuck, and took awhile until I had it close enough to the shore to disembark.
I really do like how the cage pops up where you’re standing (unlike unloading a cart/wagon, where I have to drag the thing out of the ocean). Very awesome. Unfortunately… I still wasn’t getting the option. Damnit! Wow, all of that testing, and it’s still buggy. In addition (noticed this back at my deed), when the horse goes into the cage, the color changes to brown instead of gray. Back before I did this (and had the option to unload the horse), it changed back to its gray color. So that’s another bug.
Re-loaded the crate and sailed back home, feeling very annoyed over this ‘troll bug’. While I went home, I also wrote a bug report on the forum explaining what I did in detail.

Made it back home, unloaded the cart. I thought for sure (if it really was a permission bug), it should work fine here… still no option. Ok, this is getting quite serious. My 5-speed is in there, and I can’t get him out (on my own deed).
Told War about what happened, and he said to unload the horse in a structure. All I could think about was how utterly inconvenient that would feel on another server (as in.. this is the catch to enforce working with others). I felt burned all over, but since this was my best (and only) option, I did what he said and unloaded the crate in my house. No option.
Relogged, no option. OKAY.. GM summoning time! They must ANSWER to this bullshit!!
Didn’t even hesitate, just started writing the ticket and submitted. Then made an announcement on Global Kchat to NOT take your animals cross-server at this time (because of this major game-breaking bug I found).
After saying that, I realized I posted the forum bug report in the WU section (instead of WO), and quickly corrected the problem (additionally writing down what I’m currently experiencing).

An hour passed, and one of the forum mods responded to my bug report. They asked “did you use rope?”… rope. Why.. how in the fuck would that– activated one of my ropes….. the option popped up. Are you.. FUCKING KIDDING ME!? *hands in face* Oh my GOD!! NO ONE TOLD ME to use fucking ROPE to get the option!! …WOW. So it’s no different than leading an animal. That would had been GREAT TO KNOW BEFORE SAYING IT WAS A FUCKING BUG!!!
Look, at the time, there was no wiki article about the thing. And even when there is now, there’s ZERO mention about “you must have a rope to be able to unload the creature”! The only thing close, says “Only animals that are leadable can be stored in the cage.”
I guess I wasn’t using my common sense, huh? That tends to happen a lot to me.
While I was still going “OMG.. a ROPE was needed?!”, one of the GMs responded to my ticket. Managed to get Emilkiss out of his prison, who was understandably pissed off about being caged for so long (and took it out on the cage).
The GM also told me the ‘visual bug’ I reported, wasn’t a bug at all. They explained it uses “a generic model” (which is the brown horse) for horses. Though I noticed the person also said ‘currently’, so that means it’s a template (and it might be changed in the future).
They add on saying that if the animal doesn’t have a generic model for it, a curtain is put over the cage.

Ok, so this is good to know. I just wish it didn’t come with the embarrassment of saying this is a bug (when it really wasn’t). So tomorrow, I’m going to try this again (with this new knowledge). But there’s one thing that does (somewhat) concern me (that I’ll also be testing).. when looking at the permissions (when I was in Deli), it didn’t show I owned the cage. Now I don’t know if this is perfectly normal behavior (that can also be seen with a cart). If it is, then I have absolutely nothing to worry about. But if it isn’t, then I fear when it’s time to load the horse back in, it’ll act like I don’t have permission to do anything.
I want to say that I shouldn’t need to worry about this (as the permissions actually showed correctly when back on my deed), but it’s something that will probably be eating at me (while trying to enjoy myself).

But if my fears are true, I can simply make another ticket and get a GM to take care of the problem.

Enki promised a more ‘brutal’ Wurm experience in March

Wurm post #2 of 3 (once I properly secure the mine). There’s a post on the Wurm Forum that caught my eye, that was in the form of a question; “is your steel & flint in good working order?” Good clickbait title, Enki. Bravo (I am being serious).
Now I’ve always said that Wurm Online is a ‘Multiplayer Survival’ game (when others say it’s a ‘Multiplayer Sandbox’). Enki (in this idea) promises a more survival aspect to the game. And this aspect, features things that remind me of games like The Lone Dark.. and there’s a reason why I never bought these types of games (because of how brutal they are).
…Enki wants to bring this into Wurm, and of course I have an extreme dislike to it.
However, I’m also going to have some sarcastic fun with this.

Imagine a normal Wurm Summer day, exploring another server on your horse (and enjoying the sights). You begin to notice that your water bar is going down a bit faster than you remembered, but you just assume it’s probably because of the whole stamina thing.
Then you notice you’re suddenly taking damage. There’s no mobs around.. what gives?
This folks, is the new climate system the devs are proposing (and may soon be ramming it down your throat.. wherever you want it or not). Once it goes into effect, you’ll take damage for being too hot/cold, to the point it can kill you. So, getting the ‘deed clothes’ was actually a good idea.
Rain would also play a part, but in a different sense. It’ll make the ground wet, which could actually cause hydroplaning while on a horse. Ain’t that fucking hilarious? Crash on the side of the highway, your horse in a ditch. We’re going to need AAA to get you out of there… can you imagine the horse insurance premiums? Ugh.

Warmer weather will also bring a new system, such as damaging wind gusts, blinding rain and even lightning (that has a mechanic). Yes, you better not be out in the open during a vivid lighting storm. I could imagine even flooding being a concern. Imagine you’re building a house (that doesn’t have a roof yet), and you’re swallowed by flash flooding. That’s going to be BRUTAL on newbies.
Though I wonder if tornadoes are going to be a thing. Nothing like seeing an EF5 heading straight for your deed, and there’s not a fucking thing you can do (except sign your death certificate)… as your deed gets wiped off the face of the world.
Hiding in a cave is an option though, but I would imagine if you aren’t deep enough, the negative pressure could pull you out like a cork.
And what about extreme drought? Watching the lake dry up (and the canals with it). Wouldn’t that be hilarious, watching my boats on the bottom of the canal bed. You wanted to go cross-server today? FUCK YOU! -Wurm Online devs

Then there’s Winter, which just by watching playthroughs of these full-on survival games, you’ll have to deal with white out conditions from blizzards (another reason I don’t explore during this time). There’s even going to be ice storms, that might topple trees on your roof (causing damage).
Plus, if you’re out in the open, staying warm is a requirement for your basic survival. Eating hot foods helps to stay warm, but eating cold foods will make you sick (same with eating hot foods on a hot day).

Even when smithing (or cooking) during the summer, it can actually kill you! That’s why they promise new fire retardant clothing (to keep you cool), such as a blacksmith’s apron. I’m not shitting you. It’s right there in the article.
What’s next, huh? Paint peeling from extreme heat? Your wooden house spontaneously combusting (and you’re fucked since the fire extinguisher hasn’t been invented yet)!? Or even better.. heavy snow causing your roof to collapse!
Come on, Enki. Make it nearly impossible to actually enjoy the game (as a casual)!!

.
When they push this (there is currently no known date), it better be fucking OPTIONAL; like a ‘realism mode’ that you can toggle in the settings. Because this is going to make newbies quit so fast. It’s bad enough this game is a grind, but having to worry about how hot or cold you are on top of it?
I’m sure they’re quite aware there’s opposition to this. I don’t know how much (or how little), but surely not everyone is a fan of this.
This will deter people like myself from playing, if it’s not optional. Though it also depends on just how brutal they can make it. If it doesn’t fuck with the sandbox element of the game, then I’ll stay. But if it’s like The Lone Dark? No, fuck that noise.

If you don’t know what The Lone Dark is, it’s a pure survival game where you’re having to battle the elements while it’s freezing cold (and the local wildlife). Some people like it, others don’t. It’s so full of micromanagement, to even worrying about how many carbs you’re getting down your throat.

EDIT: So apparently it was an April Fools joke… erm. Good joke, Enki. πŸ˜›
I can see the number of “awww.. I would LOVE it if this was actually implemented!!” responses. And a good “fuck you” to them all. :/

Wurm Online’s 12th Anniversary has something for everyone

Welcome to the 12th anniversary of Wurm Online. Wow, 12 years. It’s older than WoW. And I still wonder.. how the fuck it’s still alive. In any case, most of the announced updates (that I wrote down here), are now live on all servers; including a few additions that weren’t covered.
You can find the entire patch note list, here.
Let’s go over the new additions that weren’t discussed in the patch announcement;

-The main thing of the update, is Archeology. During the anniversary week, if you do your normal runs, you might acquire a ‘special fragment’ (prem only). Once you’re able to find three (and identify them before combining), you’ll receive a random gift of Wurm’s anniversary.
You can only do this once, and this is only available during the anniversary week. So, happy hunting.
There are other changes to the skill, including a journal that you can make. Please see the full changelog for the details.

Moving on.. the surprise. Creature Cages, are now live. Although the changelog doesn’t note this, this, is the thing, that ENABLES TAKING HORSES CROSS-SERVER!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!! EXPLORATION HYPE!! πŸ˜€ Best. day. EVER!!
The creature cage is also doable by me! It requires 60 carp (and I have more than that). Total materials require 24 planks, 17 large nails, and 6 iron fence bars.

Of course, there is a drawback to the cage. The animal moves around, which causes damage to the cage. The cage cannot be repaired or imped while an animal is in it.
So I hope to have it, where I can my good horse with me. Then once I reach a point on Cele that I feel there will be no land, I’ll load it up. Then (hopefully) unload it after successfully crossing the server. BOOM! Then I can take my horse with me when I go exploring on another server!! FUCKING FINALLY!!
Another possible use of the cage, is for moving to another server. You can take your good animals with you to your new place!
The Knarr can hold a total of four creature cages, which makes it possible to take your horses and your wagon cross-server.

There’s also the ‘creature transporter’, works similar to the ship transporter, and requires 25 fine carp to create.
Its total materials require 10 planks, 4 shafts, 4 small nails, 2 logs, and 1 yoke.

Now comes the misc things, and bug fixes;
-Right clicking an owned animal that has saddlebags or saddlesacks, now has an ‘Open’ option. This also works with the ‘OPEN’ keybind.
-Books can be created. Yes, you can make actual functional books now!
-The almanac recipe has been changed due to the new recipe with books.
-Window position is now saved for backpacks, quivers, and inventory groups.
-A fix was released for items blocking placement (whatever that means).
-New keybinds have been added for pulling up the backpack and quiver (THANK YOU!!).
-Items that aren’t allowed to fit in certain containers, will now show a message that it’s intended behavior.

And that should cover a decent handful of the full changelog. As said before, the list can be read via the provided link at the top of this blog post.

The highs and lows of claiming a ‘private’ mine

As said, with the personal stress of what I went through (with the Best Boi model), it feels good when I’m able to pass it to someone that can handle it a hell of a lot better than I can (with payment, of course).
Now I can turn my attention back on securing the mine on the other side of the lake. And of course, I totally logged in and did just that (instead of aimlessly walking around my deed, wishing I didn’t have to do this). Totally focused! πŸ˜›
Eventually though, I did finally get my ass over there (on horseback) and get to work on making the area easier to navigate. While I was doing that, Fooli was in my local. Asked what was bringing him over here, and he said in a PM that he was “going on a trip” to Inde, for a day or two.
Hmm. Maybe he’s an explorer too. Though I didn’t bother to ask if he was going over there to meet a friend or something like that (as it really wasn’t my business).

There came to a point where I had a bit of an issue bringing this ramp down (to meet up with the rest of the area); kept hitting rock. I tried to reveal the troublesome thing, and see if I could surface mine it down.. but I would have to rip the road up (by removing the pavement). Thankfully in my favor, the slope leading to the ramp was within acceptable levels to work. Eventually I turned the really messy ramp into something a lot more tolerable (and easier to walk on).
All there was left was to make a deed stake, and have B2 find a place to plant it. The reason I didn’t do this sooner, as I was so sure I would have no issues with any deeds in the area..
‘You cannot found the settlement here:
Simple Things has perimeter within the planned settlement or its perimeter.” was showing up in B2’s event log. GREAT! Freed from from the stress of Blender.. annoyed by the stress of a deed that’s some distance away, with an even larger perimeter than any starter town I’ve ever seen in this game!!
I get the purpose of it, but it’s halting my progress. This will not stand! Ever since losing my mine (from my own stupidity of not deeding it sooner), this just makes me more and more want to move away from Wargasm and his ‘cronies’.
I tried to get ahold of War, while repositioning B2 to a point where be could actually start the process of founding (hoping to at least cover the mine entrance). He found a spot, but it was literally in the way of the protected catseye highway (and I seriously doubted he could found here). Though it didn’t really matter, as the range of the deed was two tiles short of covering the entrance.

I knew I was out of options (except hoping War could do something about this deed’s perimeter). Had no choice but to wait (of course this started to really irritate me, thinking he doesn’t see the problem as big as I do.. not at all thinking he could simply be busy doing something else. Don’t think that when I get pissed).
Time passed, then an unexpected person comes into local (named ‘Luckydog’) showing up in a rowboat. I tried saying hi, but I got no response. The person is spinning around in their rowboat on the lake, as in either they were lost or looking for someone. The person then stops near Darkloden’s place, and walks around. I walk over and try to introduce myself, still no response. So I’m thinking “maybe the person doesn’t speak nor understand English”.
Decided to walk away, knowing what I’m dealing with is far more important than figuring out this person’s intentions are. Finally the person speaks, saying they’re looking for Dark. I tell them “you found it, it’s directly ahead of you”. He ‘hanks’ me, tell him no problem and go back to getting pissed off about waiting for War to respond.
Eventually, he does respond. He says he was dealing with a villager over paying for their prem time. I also apologized to him for sounding like I was pissed off, but adding that I “just don’t want this to happen again to me”.

War comes over, and verifies the problem. Says he can’t do anything about the deed’s perimeter, but then suggests an alternative; a mine door (instead of a 1×1 structure). But I tell him “what about people simply able to tunnel past the door?” He says to use reinforced walls to stop that.
Then he lays some brass facts on me, saying the idea would work for the time being, but when the veins deplete (and they eventually will), I would be as fucked as he is. He says he has to go out of his way to find iron (though he typically loads one of his Knarrs with crates, goes mass mining, and uses that supply. And says I would likely have to do the same.
When I said “yay, new server, new challenges”.. if I knew I would have to go through this, staying in OR would had been a better idea. Because.. UGH! WHY?! Even though I already know the answer (the low rock layer), but.. WHY?!
I so very much hate it when money can’t take care of your problems (only hard work can).

.
But for now, I’m going to go with the mine door suggestion. I’ll cross that bridge when it forms (when the ore eventually depletes). But until then, I’m going to use what local resources I have, that are available to me.

I went in another direction (to make my model).. the paid route

I’ve always said, commissions feel like a scam; taking advantage of people who can’t learn how to use these 3D programs. …And I’m also ‘guilty’ of starting the process of one. But when desperate times call for equal measures, it’s something I have little choice but to do (due to the ‘floof’ of the model that would get in the way of properly retexturing). And the person who I’m setting up the commission with, knows this very well (and how to get rid of it).

As it currently stands (this currently isn’t official, as this is the start of setting up the commission), it’ll cost a single Andrew Jackson ($20), because I was able to get the parts for the model (would had costed upwards of $30 without). And how I was able to get them, two of the four required parts came from a member named ‘Foxes’.
The first model was looking for a bull horn (for the horns of the head). Though I had found some, the ones that I needed.. costed money (and they were also connected to the bull). Foxes had found a free cow horn, and tried to set it as close to my preferred specifications as possible.
As for ‘retexturing’, One can simply use a white texture (and use Cubed’s Unity Shader’s ‘flat toon’ shader (to match it with the rest of the model)).

The second thing, took a lot longer (due to my own stupidity of forgetting I can resize the damn thing in Unity). I wanted the triangular spikes on the 2D pic’s back (but hilariously didn’t know what they were called, and had to look up what they are (called the spine)).
I’ve called them ‘back spikes’ for years. *facepalm*
Anyway, I was thinking of a 3D triangle (that’s thicker on the bottom). Didn’t know I was trying to explain a pyramid (which was actually what I needed at the start). Instead I’m wasting his time by mistake, and he’s understandably getting frustrated and tired with this. But finally I realize that YES.. I needed a pyramid. All I would had needed to do is rotate it 45*, and then use Unity’s scale tools to set the ‘fatness’ (to fit it in place).
Voylia, instant dragon spine!

Third thing, dragon wings (of course). The whole thing that sparked my interest for the model idea, was seeing someone posting something about ‘fake dragon wings’ (that can be imported via Blender). Found something that looked nearly similar to the wings of the 2D pic on DeviantArt (that are already rigged). The DL page claims all you have to do is “attach it to your model and it should automatically work”.
Though, the person forgot to add in what program you use to attach them. Blender, or Unity? The way it sounds, it seems I could easily connect these to CATRigSpine3 in Unity. Yet how would they work, when you have no bone connecting from the spine to the bones of the model? Don’t you have to? I’m tempted to try it, but.. like everything else, I don’t want to be disappointed either.
There’s just no way it’s that easy (to import this thing from Blender, convert to fbx, and place the wings(and they’ll instantly work))! You NEED bones connected from the spine to the wings (especially if you want to add dynamic bones)!
Plus, colliding might be an issue (aka: the Gandora model).

But whatever. There is also a 4th part, unfortunately this is not something I can easily attach to a bone.. as it requires completely replacing a part of the Best Boi; a scaly tail to replace the ‘floofy’ one (which can only be done in Blender, and I have ZERO idea on doing that). This alone, would either make or break the entire idea.
And then there’s the ‘tuff’ of the neck floof. This would throw off the retexturing of the model. And the more I thought about it, it WILL throw it off. This is supposed to look like a scalie, not a furry. πŸ˜›
(I’m fine with the ears, though).

.
So in closing, hopefully now you see why a commission is pretty much my only option (for this idea). I require expert help for this, and I’m willing to pay for it (as long as it’s reasonably priced, and IMO, $20 is quite reasonable).
The good news from all of this (outside of this taking a major load off of my chest(physically and mentally)), is I’ll be able to put my full focus back on Wurm, and do those very important tasks to secure that mine.

UPDATE: The person has yet to respond to me if they’ve started the commission or not. This is a bit worrysome.
Just contacted the person while they’re streaming, they said their Discord installation is “fucky” right now (and not showing messages). She says she’ll look into it.
That explains a lot. Tried my best to not mention the word ‘commission’ in the stream.

UPDATE 2: The commission is good! I had to get someone to speak to the person in my behalf (as they weren’t in the same world I was). Also, the someone I asked to speak to the person, also has a commission with them.
And as to if the thing would be completed before next Friday (the catwalk event), the person said yes. AYY!! This relieves a huge burden off my chest! And it seems payment will be done once I see the completed model.
Can’t wait to see it. I hope doesn’t look childish. :/

Didn’t ‘attend’ the catwalk event, but I’m still in luck

It’s officially been a week since the Best Boi model was released.. and I never made ‘Benie the Dragon Boi’. I did attend the ‘catwalk event’, but I didn’t show off the tall version of Red Boi (that I actually put quite a bit of effort in). And the reason why I didn’t do it, is I simply wasn’t ready for it (and I had my expectations way too high, for my limited skills to do).
Of course I blame myself for it. There’s no one else at fault here.

Most of what happened (since the last blog post) went to trying to find a baseball cap, and also spending two evenings in a roll watching someone’s stream (who was trying to help people like myself learn how to do everything, from installation to attaching props on the model). This even included a Blender tutorial (on importing an mmd into an fbx).
The entire process took roughly 3-4 days (from importing to retexturing), and that really drained my desire to make a Best Boi based on my 2D avatar. Not to mention, hearing “someone’s already done that” didn’t help my mood.

But I fucking finally had the cap in a condition that I liked, and used the knowledge I gathered from the stream, to finally attach my first prop model to an avatar. It felt pretty cool, but I didn’t want to stop there. I had an additional idea for a backpack. Had help from a friend to find a pretty reasonable model (tris and polys). I also then had an idea for a weapon, like either a spear or a walking stick (but settled with a walking stick, thinking I could use it to poke people).
Adding them was easy’ish (the walking stick was a bit of a pain to rotate (due to the way the pivot point was located)). Though I am very glad that Unity allows multiple props to be connected to one bone. But I basically have it set similar to a traditional sword/shield combo (with the walking stick inside of the backpack, while both are sitting right on my back).

The animation, was the biggest bitch of it all– an even bigger pain in the ass than retexturing the cap, due to how the background of the texture sheet, was masking with the components. I had to get the one that streams to help me with that.
Going by limited knowledge from the stream (and derping just like the streamer, of having the cap in the wrong hand), I eventually remembered how to do it. The first few attempts (using a mirror in a private instance), the animation was looping between being in the hand and the head. I figured out that switching the two was actually causing the unwanted looping, and set it where the cap on the head is disabled while the cap is in the hand.
I did a similar animation for the right hand (with the walking stick).

Of course, no animation goes without an issue. Since yesterday, people were saying the cap was in my head and on my head (at the same time).. even attempting to reset the animation (by using SHIFT+F1) wasn’t working. In a mirror, it’s working perfectly fine to me. So.. WTF?! I tried rebinding both animations to F3 and F4 respectively, but this wasn’t fixing the problem.
I then completely deleted the Cap Hold animation and redid it from scratch.. and that fixed it!! FINALLY!! I was then told by someone, that F2 (the key I originally had the Cap Hold binded to) has “been known to get stuck”. Yet if that’s the case, then how come rebinding it away from that key.. didn’t fix it?
Whatever, it’s FIXED now! Rejoice!

.
To end this blog post, I have two weeks from now (before the next catwalk event), to work on ‘Benie the Dragon Boi’ . The winner gets a free Steam gift card (unknown amount at this time).
As long as I don’t procrastinate (like wanting to do what I did for the tall Red Boi, to the original Red Boi), I should have plenty of time to do it. I will likely require the help of a few people (such as possibly replacing the tail with a more scaly version). But the rest…Β “should” (hopefully) be easy to do.
I know how to import a model in Blender now (how to delete the bones and set the pivot point). Though, Blender also showed its “WTF?!” side (by showing me four menus that look the same, and having no idea how to close them out).
FUCK Blender… I wish I didn’t need it, but I know I may not have a choice if I can find a certain prop I require, from one of these 3D model websites.

“I wanna know, where did you GO?!… My angry”

The day has finally come to throw another month’s worth of upkeep into the deed token. I see Fooli there. I had forgotten to make a post about meeting him about four days ago, so I’ll do a brief explanation.
He won’t allow me to have access into the mine, but offered to find me a new one in its place. I even helped him with it, but it turned into a bust with how trollish the rock layer is in the area (being quite low to the water table). Instead, I was forced to default of the mine to the East of me (on the other side of the lake), that Saint made for me (a few days after I moved in).
Fooli also uncovered a very good Iron vein for me in that mine. Now all I need to do is work on smoothing out the ground, in order to build a 1×1 shack infront of the entrance. Though, given how anyone could easily mine past the 1×1 (and enter the mine), deeding might be my best option.
On top of that, I also need to get to work on a special Best Boi for the catwalk event this coming Friday. Ugh.. I’m going to be so busy. I wish Kibble would extend the ‘deadline’ (there really isn’t any though, it’s an optional thing, for fun) to next Friday.

But there’s a more important thing than both of these two things; Angry is gone. Not gone from my friends list (was on two days ago), but gone from the area. Discovered this by no longer seeing an Alliance tab.
His deed token is gone, and so are his boats (including the deed of where his boats were).
He’s still in Cele (according to my friends list), but unknown as to where. Perhaps, maybe he ‘took my advice’ of the whole “live like a nomad” thing and went up to Tap Dance? Who knows. Or maybe he took his boats back to Inde and is hanging out in Cele somewhere.
The only thing he didn’t take, are the two horses he’s caring for. I’m not sure if he stopped caring for them (as the place is locked up tight). The only way I’ll know for sure, is when decay starts to remove the exterior walls.

Checking Cele’s Twitter feed, he disbanded the deeds on his own (instead of letting the upkeep run out). So, I think it was probably from something I said in here. Probably facepalmed over the whole thing how I was freaking out over not having a mine, and didn’t want to be around me anymore.
Ehh, whatever. He should’ve known it was a mistake.

My greatest achievement in Unity (next to uploading my first avatar)

Even though I’m still bored with VRChat, the release of the Best Boi model has understandably brought me back to the game. And yesterday, I’ve done something thatΒ  surprised even myself (when it worked). And best of all, it makes the two fucking hours that I had to go through (to get this working), not so bad.

So what was it? It’s a custom animation that has eluded me since the first time I saw someone do it. It’s a hilarious dancing animation where your avatar starts flailing like a ragdoll, and dancing in place. I wanted to know the name of said animation (and the anime song that’s perfectly synced to it).
As the months went on, it’s like almost everyone had it. But fortune had smiled upon me a day ago (in the Best Boi Discord server). Though I forgot what was said for me to get the info, but I remember something called ‘Get Down’. Surprisingly, the animation is in the animation pack that someone suggested to me, a long time ago! This is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for!! πŸ˜€
I also finally remembered how to add custom animations, and tried it out ingame (using the wiggly version of the Red Boi). And the “OoOoOoOoOhhh!!” part made me lose it, watching the avatar’s jaw and eyes go everywhere during that part of the dance. Fucking hilarious.
All that I wanted to do next, is find the song. Which actually wasn’t hard using a quick Youtube search. Just needed to use a Youtube to MP3 converter.

Now came the hard part– trying to learn how to add the song into an animation (and also properly sync it). Tried to use Google, but it was speaking in a language I couldn’t understand. Tried asking the VRChat Discord server (as I wanted this to be a secret from the Best Bois). Got someone named ‘Moons’ who was willing to help me. Unfortunately, this help turned into a failure as he couldn’t figure out why the animation wasn’t playing. Though I was also extremely confused on what the fuck I just did.
It looked like to me, he asked me to make a duplicate, then copy the ‘default’ Best Boi animations into a new animation file. And finally, put the sound with it. How. I just had so many questions, yet all I was doing was confusing the guy, saying he told me exactly what I needed to do to do it, and had no idea why the animation wasn’t playing.
I was forced to ask in the Best Boi Discord, and it was like I was being ignored by everyone. Either that, or they knew they couldn’t help me with something like that (which confused and angered me at the same time).
Tried asking a few members and mods personally, if they knew how to do this. One nearly tried to help me, but he couldn’t. Though he referenced me to someone else that should help me. And so I spoke to, who I really want to call “tutorial voice”. Because his voice would be perfect to be used in some Unity tutorial videos.
He basically told me the same thing, except he took it one step further; he got me to realize just what I was doing. Basically, the Get Down animation has files in it, but these files are Read Only by default. Making a duplicate of the model (and a new animation controller), is the only way. But I also have to copy/paste the files from the old animation to the new one… and Unity absolutely, positively HATES this with a passion. The moment I try to paste all the files in, it freezes up eternally (while working in the background). It even did this to me, when Moons was helping me.
I had to take (what felt like) two hours, moving 2-3 files at a time. And even this, Unity hated it so much, freezing from just under a minute, to nearly 10 minutes. WHY?! WHY does this have to be a thing?!

But FINALLY… I got all the files moved over (including the sound file). Then I tested the animation in Unity, praying all of that work didn’t go to waste.. and it WORKED!
Tried it ingame. The sound was pretty out of sync with the animation, but IT WORKS!! πŸ˜€ I DID IT!! I added sound to an animation!
All there was left to do, was reinstall Audacity and attempt to sync the song (by adding silence to delay it). I also had another issue with the song/animation not fully playing. This was easily fixed by extending the stop point in the animation’s sound.
Both issues were fixed, and I had the music synced with the sound. Though, just how perfect I have it (within the fraction of a millisecond) remains to be seen. I’ll be trying this out (as a test) with the non-wiggly version of the model.

.
One last tidbit before I wrap this up. Models that I can’t find on the Unity store (and don’t support Unity), I was told that converting them to .fbx (for Unity to support it) in Blender, isn’t that hard. Yes, I would have to use Blender(ugh). But I was told that it’s just a few clicks, and I can place it as normal in Unity.
This will come in handy, when I plan to make ‘Benie the Dragon Boi’ (based as close as I can, off of my 2D model). This will (if I can get it done in time) be my secret Best Boi model for the Talent Show next Friday. Instead of the meeting, Kibble’s going to be doing a Best Boi talent show. Where we just walk down the catwalk, showing off our models.
The winner (or winners), it’s unsure what they’ll win, but I think it’ll be the satisfaction for being damn good at 3D modeling.
To keep the model a secret, I won’t be talking about it in here (except either I get it done, I didn’t get it done in time, or I gave up on it).
