Enki promised a more ‘brutal’ Wurm experience in March

Wurm post #2 of 3 (once I properly secure the mine). There’s a post on the Wurm Forum that caught my eye, that was in the form of a question; “is your steel & flint in good working order?” Good clickbait title, Enki. Bravo (I am being serious).
Now I’ve always said that Wurm Online is a ‘Multiplayer Survival’ game (when others say it’s a ‘Multiplayer Sandbox’). Enki (in this idea) promises a more survival aspect to the game. And this aspect, features things that remind me of games like The Lone Dark.. and there’s a reason why I never bought these types of games (because of how brutal they are).
…Enki wants to bring this into Wurm, and of course I have an extreme dislike to it.
However, I’m also going to have some sarcastic fun with this.

Imagine a normal Wurm Summer day, exploring another server on your horse (and enjoying the sights). You begin to notice that your water bar is going down a bit faster than you remembered, but you just assume it’s probably because of the whole stamina thing.
Then you notice you’re suddenly taking damage. There’s no mobs around.. what gives?
This folks, is the new climate system the devs are proposing (and may soon be ramming it down your throat.. wherever you want it or not). Once it goes into effect, you’ll take damage for being too hot/cold, to the point it can kill you. So, getting the ‘deed clothes’ was actually a good idea.
Rain would also play a part, but in a different sense. It’ll make the ground wet, which could actually cause hydroplaning while on a horse. Ain’t that fucking hilarious? Crash on the side of the highway, your horse in a ditch. We’re going to need AAA to get you out of there… can you imagine the horse insurance premiums? Ugh.

Warmer weather will also bring a new system, such as damaging wind gusts, blinding rain and even lightning (that has a mechanic). Yes, you better not be out in the open during a vivid lighting storm. I could imagine even flooding being a concern. Imagine you’re building a house (that doesn’t have a roof yet), and you’re swallowed by flash flooding. That’s going to be BRUTAL on newbies.
Though I wonder if tornadoes are going to be a thing. Nothing like seeing an EF5 heading straight for your deed, and there’s not a fucking thing you can do (except sign your death certificate)… as your deed gets wiped off the face of the world.
Hiding in a cave is an option though, but I would imagine if you aren’t deep enough, the negative pressure could pull you out like a cork.
And what about extreme drought? Watching the lake dry up (and the canals with it). Wouldn’t that be hilarious, watching my boats on the bottom of the canal bed. You wanted to go cross-server today? FUCK YOU! -Wurm Online devs

Then there’s Winter, which just by watching playthroughs of these full-on survival games, you’ll have to deal with white out conditions from blizzards (another reason I don’t explore during this time). There’s even going to be ice storms, that might topple trees on your roof (causing damage).
Plus, if you’re out in the open, staying warm is a requirement for your basic survival. Eating hot foods helps to stay warm, but eating cold foods will make you sick (same with eating hot foods on a hot day).

Even when smithing (or cooking) during the summer, it can actually kill you! That’s why they promise new fire retardant clothing (to keep you cool), such as a blacksmith’s apron. I’m not shitting you. It’s right there in the article.
What’s next, huh? Paint peeling from extreme heat? Your wooden house spontaneously combusting (and you’re fucked since the fire extinguisher hasn’t been invented yet)!? Or even better.. heavy snow causing your roof to collapse!
Come on, Enki. Make it nearly impossible to actually enjoy the game (as a casual)!!

.
When they push this (there is currently no known date), it better be fucking OPTIONAL; like a ‘realism mode’ that you can toggle in the settings. Because this is going to make newbies quit so fast. It’s bad enough this game is a grind, but having to worry about how hot or cold you are on top of it?
I’m sure they’re quite aware there’s opposition to this. I don’t know how much (or how little), but surely not everyone is a fan of this.
This will deter people like myself from playing, if it’s not optional. Though it also depends on just how brutal they can make it. If it doesn’t fuck with the sandbox element of the game, then I’ll stay. But if it’s like The Lone Dark? No, fuck that noise.

If you don’t know what The Lone Dark is, it’s a pure survival game where you’re having to battle the elements while it’s freezing cold (and the local wildlife). Some people like it, others don’t. It’s so full of micromanagement, to even worrying about how many carbs you’re getting down your throat.

EDIT: So apparently it was an April Fools joke… erm. Good joke, Enki. 😛
I can see the number of “awww.. I would LOVE it if this was actually implemented!!” responses. And a good “fuck you” to them all. :/
