I’m alive (ingame)! / A few last minute discoveries before heading home

I have finally came up with an answer to my issue… I went home (as being offline for three days without any walls around me, isn’t a good idea). And I also took the bison/wagon with me. I have an idea to deal with caring.
First of all, I spent about 10 or so minutes setting all of my graphics settings to what it feels is recommended, and came online. 3/4 of me is expecting to be alive (with the remaining 1/4 being dead to an asshole troll that caught me before I got out of the world). And as expected, I was alive and well (inside my wagon nonetheless).
Also, the new graphics settings worked! The game still looked pretty stunning, and my framerate is ohh so buttery smooth now (like I just upgraded my hardware)! However, it told me to also disable all shadows (which kills the realism for me). So I set it back.. and my computer didn’t like it at first, but after a minute or two, the framerate was buttery smooth again.
I need to make a mental note to setup a new ‘Impalong’ setting (having everything non-critical to their lowest settings). Because that’ll save me a lot of headaches to set it up prior to the Pri Impalong. Like, before reaching the Impalong site, I can log off, switch to the ‘Impalong’ settings, and boom.. no major studdering issues with a fuck-ton of boats and particles/crazy lighting everywhere!

Plotted a route back to Lormere, using alternate routes (instead of the catseye highway). This had myself follow a few coastlines (and crossing a few bridges) before getting on the Whitefay/Summerholt highway, then taking the route that eventually gets to Esteron(and there’s a section of it (after passing by the deed deed) that is (IMO)… the worst-maintained catseye highway (so far) in Xanadu. It has an excessive amount of dips, bumps, and inclines(some of them make absolutely no sense)), and taking the bypass road that lead me to it from Lormere.
This road has been greatly extended since the last time I’ve traveled it, and even passes by that INSANE incline part (with a few switchbacks, and a tunnel). Kudos to the road builders! Hope it gets extended all the way to the main highway.
Eventually got on the highway to Lormere, but using another route to get me to the road that gets to where my boat is. Two people in local pop up, and one of them waves and offers food. I told them “thanks but no thanks, I have places to be.”–
Finally made it back to my boat. The idea is to go to Deli and check out that spot I saw when I was initially exploring the server last year. I thought of leaving the bison/wagon here in Xan, then come back and grab them (due to I felt I needed to make a direct route, to minimize the damage to the cages). Then I thought I’ll just load them now (to make less trips, and knew I could get them out in Deli, repair the cages, get them back in, and then go home).
And it was a good idea that I chose the second option, because I didn’t know it was 4 in the morning, and absolutely needed to rush this (as bedtime is in an hour)! With an East gale (that would both help and hinder me), I tried to quickly make it to one of the southern canals out of Xan.
Nearly out of the canal that got me here, I just happened to look left and saw a deed on a hill, with a structure called ‘Soleil’s House’… well well well. Looks like he finally found a place to live afterall. If it wasn’t for the fact I was literally racing against the clock, I would had went over and checked it out.

Got B2 on two minutes before crossing the server (as all passengers HAVE to be logged in to cross). Made it to Deli, and flew up the coast to the canal, wasting no time (as every second counts).
Got a bit lost after passing the second canal, unsure which side to take. Had to go online and pull up the Deli community map, and found the canal that lead to Nightmare Lake (remembering it was along the coast). The East gale, now in my face, took nearly 10 minutes to traverse. Not good when you’re on a strict timetable (and literally trying to race the RL sun).
Making it out on the other end, I noticed things have.. changed. The road that I felt was going to be an issue, is now a Cobble/Marble highway (but has no catseyes). What’s worse, I couldn’t find the spot I saw before. Thought I could come to this spot tomorrow with Uma (just get someone to brand her), and do a more through check. Though I could’ve sworn I saw a structure where (I believe to be) the spot I saw. All the more reason to do a more detailed check.

The journey back to the north border of Deli was (of course) quicker than getting there (with the East gale behind me). But getting back home, I had to zig-zag back to Sunset Canal. There I saw another god damn sermon going on near it (and of course my computer doesn’t like that shit). But, “moving out” is really the -only- answer to that issue (even though I was here first).

So now we’re back home, safe and secure (by 5:15am). I also notice that multi clienting is a lot more tolerable now with these new (slightly lower) graphics settings (which opens opportunities for me). They did mention in the patch notes, that textures have been optimized for low-end computers (and all I can say is “fucking FINALLY”).
Thanks devs. 🙂 Off to bed.

The debate over securing, and how it directly affects me

So yesterday was a pretty boring day (but I am enjoying my temp break, less on my mind to think about is always a good thing). However, I now have a new concern, and how it directly affects my plans (to where I almost made a fool of myself).
Going through Youtube videos that I haven’t seen in awhile (and lurking in the Wurm Online Discord server), someone started bringing up a conversation about not being able to loot a dead deed (due to how everything was nailed to the floor). Now I would be agreeing to them (as it is annoying in ways)… but then remembering how I’m going to use this very thing to protect my most valuable stuff, if I do choose to disband (that I rather not let looters take), I got into a civil argument with this person.
Thankfully this was soon solved with a staff member, stating that items will auto-unplant after a certain QL level passes. I’m actually fine with this, just don’t loot my crap immediately after I disband. 😛

A thread was also made to get support for this, which I gave my two cents as I did in the Discord server (including an alternative to actually help looters around this problem).
If they could use the archeology code that determines if the spot you’re digging at, is a deed, then items there should decay faster than off-deed.
Now if I do disband the deed, after (hopefully) selling a majority of my stuff, I’ll likely throw the rest deep in the ocean (where looters can’t get it). Such as my coffin and all BSBs (including the empty ones).
Just because I got lucky finding all of those unsecured, empty BSBs from that deed deed in Pristine, I refuse to allow someone else to get as lucky (when they didn’t go through the hellish effort to get them). But if the situation was different (such as if I was going to quit Wurm ‘forever’ (like I did in early 2011)), then sure. I would be OK with it.

The ‘long-needed’ break from Wurm / The ‘debriefing’

Clearly of what happened last night, I’m in need of a break to help clear my thoughts and try to focus on just what the fuck I’m going to do with my Wurm life. And there’s a lot of shit that’s on my mind; that whole ‘debriefing’ thing I said I was going to wait ’till the 18th for.
I might as well do it now. So, do get comfortable.

First order of business, I realize this ‘living off the land’ thing I was supposed to be doing (if choosing to disband the deed), clearly isn’t working as planned. Ever since I saw the “will not fit” BS when attempting to loot some of those dead deeds, I questioned my true intentions.
Since I’m (obviously) tired of wasting money to make sure I won’t lose my deed, then why am I looting dead deeds? I never once thought of this being an issue, but I believe the reason being that this was from the original thought of having a wagon to loot dead deeds, and take the goods back home.. and this was before I thought of using the wagon to carry my deed with me.
This also defeats the purpose of “roughing it”… *sigh* this is why I wanted to speak to Soleil, to see what he had in his wagon (and compare it with mine). As in, how did he start? Did he have a deed nearly all of his Wurm life (that he stayed at for many years), or lived like a nomad? It would explain so much, and may even say something like how I ‘had it easy’ all my Wurm life; protected behind strong deed walls, and a guard tower ready to assist.
I really need to swallow my pride and speak to him, one of these days (and hope he hasn’t blocked me).

Second thing, my Animal Husbandry skill. With it now 30 something, I can care for a total of four animals now (my four bison). This is something else I didn’t factor in, when I had gotten the bison. The fact my AH is low and I take them back home (and they get ven and die), I’ve lost so much fucking money.
The answer is simple; leave the bison in Xan (or on any other server but Cele, as I’ll be forced to let go of my good horses to protect my bison). Also, the female bison is now Old, which is raising my concern of being able to return to previous explored servers. My idea was to hope I could find someone in Xan, who could (I know it’s not a guarantee, even with high AH) get me some new 5-speeds from her.
I need at least 40.01 to be able to care for five animals (which’ll include the offspring). However, I feel I won’t really need this when I can ‘undo’ until I get a brand new (hopefully negative/neutral trait free) 5-speed female (and the same can go to the males when they get too old to go in the cages).
Aka, there’s going to be a lot of ‘replacement bison’ to ensure they stay young. That’s the plan anyway. But since someone said that bison are harder to get a 5-speed (aka why they’re not as cheap as a horse), this is why I need someone that knows this shit.

Third thing, a possible ‘temp deed’ in Xan. The above idea is going to need a deed where the bison are safe and secure (while the female is pregnant). I’m debating if I should slap down the 4.5s needed to found a deed, somewhere that’s connected to the main highways, and has a mine nearby.
I wish I could say “I’ll just build a bunch of fences and a house in the middle”.. because even on PvE servers, you -can- steal if it’s not on a deed (because that’s what happened to me, years ago). “Deed it or lose it”– the rule of the PvE server.
Slapping a temp deed down (that’ll cover upkeep for two months for ‘free’) would hopefully give me enough time to get a few 5-speed offspring bison. But this is something I’m just not sure of. It’s a lot of money to be throwing away, on hope the RNGods will be nice.

This opens up a sub-discussion (that I already know the answer to). I wish there was a way to brand animals without having a deed, and having the brand decay (given the QL of the iron). But to make it fair, set a limit to like, you cannot re-brand to reset the decay, and you have to wait a day or two before you can brand again.
Though I see people would want more strict fairness, such as one branded animal at a time. But honestly, having to balance this to be fair for deed owners (and the horse/bison market), would be very tricky.
Of course this is what my common sense says.. my whiny spoiled child side disagrees.

There is, one final thought.. but it’s a thought I had before I got the bison (if I decide to keep my current deed, and this is both positive and negative). The idea is to get B2 to 21.05 in ML (which he’s nearly there right now with 21.00), which will enable him to control a Corbita (that I’ll either buy the ship or the parts (that I cannot produce as I lack the skill) to build it myself (like I did in 2010, when I was still living in OR)).
Now this isn’t going to be his new boat (even though I’ll be selling the sailboat), he’ll be able to control it as my primary means to haul my bison/wagon to wherever I need them to be (instead of my Knarr). Because, 21.05 is a lot more achievable (right now) than 23.00.
The negative side, as I said before, is.. once again, how shallow the lake is. It will not allow a Corbita. It would have to be parked somewhere on the South coast.
A way to work around this problem is to build and utilize a ship transporter, that B2 can drag it (with the ship) to/from the deed (while I protect him from mobs). There I can unload the ship into the ocean.
There’s also a problem with this, as I don’t know how much body strength is required to load/unload the Corb w/ all four (maybe even the maximum of five) empty creature cages + the wagon. I absolutely have to know this for the thought to fully work.
I have something like 29 in that skill, but I don’t know if that’s enough.

But if I decide to say “you know what, screw this. I’m moving to (server here)”… depending on where I could potentially find a new place to live (which I haven’t really found one yet in Xan, thanks to the damn mountains), a ship transporter may not even be necessary.
If that spot in Deli that I saw along the shore is still available (that hopefully the road isn’t catseye’d by now), I might just move there. Hell, it might even be worth a look to see.

.
And so, this is what’s been going on in my mind, and why it’s been so hard to focus on a decision. There are so many variables that I haven’t thought of (that could potentially screw me over).
Think I’ll just stay off until A: I finally come up with a decision. B: The Xanadu community map gets updated (and shows new places that are accessible). C: I have to get back home before the 30 day limit hits on the upkeep. Or D: It’s getting quite close to the Pristine Impalong. One of the four (or maybe all four happening at once) will be the driving force.

On a somewhat related note, a few weeks ago I applied to be an editor of the Wurmpedia, and was accepted the following morning. I’ve been using this new power to finally add some more info about the creature cage (as no one else seems to be willing to do), while also talking to Retrograde to clear a few things up about it. And they were (of course) about how permissions don’t transfer over, and the whole ‘venerable animal may die’ thing.
Turns out, players were warned about the first thing prior to the testing (but I stupidly didn’t get the memo, as I don’t lurk the forum). He said the reason being is “as players can be members of different deeds on different servers.” Hammering (aka forcing) in that ‘multiplayer’ aspect, I see. Let’s just fuck ‘options’; make everyone go down one linear path). 😛

As for the other one, it seems there is -no- percentage of a ven animal dying on you (when crossing servers). It uses the same mechanics that determine when the animal dies of old age, and begins to tick as soon as you release it from the cage. This means, caring for the animal on every server (if it stays alive for that long) ensures the animal will not die (on a particular server).
He also mentioned about the new alloy that you can make through metallurgy; ‘Electrum’ (it’s no longer a Modded Minecraft thing, even though it’s actually a real thing), made with Gold and Silver lumps, a rune can be made from it. According to him, this rune can be used to rewind the animal’s age.. I can definitely see a market for these things (once they get mass produced by these slavers of the forge). Though I would assume, the market would only exist on the forum.
Hopefully they aren’t terribly expensive (as that compass..).

Active Wagoner encounter! / 2.3s for a compass?! / A possible end

Current Location (of staying for ‘the night’): South of the “Dragon’s Spine” bridge in NE Xanadu(SE of Summerholt)
Travel Locations: (Mainly) East (to Summerholt)
Status: Unknown, assumed alive (forced disconnect by internet outage)|

“I’m having a bad, bad (Wurm)day. It’s about time that I get my way! Steamrolling over every mob (and mountain) I see!
Despicable Benie”
More trans-server traveling (attempting to use bypass routes), my first active wagoner encounter, and spending 2.30s on a compass are the highlights of the day. And finally, my internet connection has been down for nearly two hours since the typing of this text document (claiming of an ‘internet outage’ according to my ISP, yet I blame routine maintenance).
At least I have my phone (using the 4G services of my carrier (as my WiFi is also down, go figure)). Welp.. someone please pass me a blanket, as it’s going to be a long night without power internet.

Anyway… going back to Wurm, I left Dragon Roost Peak and attempted to plot my own route to Summerholt (to bypass Vrock Landing and Linton). This took me due south, on this new Glasshollow-Linton Highway I’ve never been on. As I’m crossing another ridiculously long bridge (that just might rival the one going to Newspring), I’m thinking of random ways to make some money on the go (that don’t exist in Wurm). One of them was to find rare and nice wild horses and lead them to a deed, and turn them into few copper to have them be bred and stuff (kind of like GTA5 of stealing cars).
GTH(Grand Theft Horse), much?

Got off the bridge and start turning the corner (getting down this ramp), and a wagon suddenly gets in my face. Yet the animals pulling the wagon are unlike anything I’ve seen (by a player)– they were deer. Enabled the UI, and noticed.. holy FUCK! This is a wagoner making deliveries!! 😀 This is SO COOL!! I’ve never seen an active wagoner, ever in this game! I was hoping I would eventually, given how populated this server is.
Though, wow is it slow as it went up the ramp I just came off of, going on the bridge! Can you fucking imagine waiting for a delivery to Esteron, from Glasshollow?! It would take possibly a day or two for it to get to you! That is insane, and I bet I could even outrun it if I had wild bison (and make it there in half the time he would).
I wanted to follow it, but given how much it was stopping before moving a few steps before stopping again, I decided against it and continued on course. Less than a minute later, I see a named horse swimming inches off the coast. Went over and investigated it, and made a forum post in hopes the owner of this gearless ven horse would come and grab it. Though it’s highly possible it was left on purpose (like what happened when I lived in OR, finding a named ven horse in the ocean). Except this one is branded and cared for.

Found another sizable market in another deed (named ‘Haven Community Center’), but no one’s selling a compass. I hate to say, but that person back in Glasshollow might’ve been right (how the forum is the new public market).
Just outside of this deed (after going up the road), is a quite unique deed named ‘Haven Heights’. It looks like one of those old wild west ghost towns, even having a county jail. So cool. Love the theme!
This side of Xan also had something else (that caught my eye on the map), a manmade canal-like river, that I swear its only purpose is to be a tourist trap (definitely worked on me). Getting off the wagon, walking over and getting my camera out, being all “ohhhh“.. “ohhhhh!!” (if vistas were porn stars, I so got lucky this night).
Weirdness aside, even though it was dark, I pressed on (as Gamma doesn’t let darkness get in my way). Eventually made it to the Linton-Greymead Highway(aka the ‘Hellhound Trail’, going past Rome and making it to Greymead just before dinnertime.

Back on the road, took me north of Greymead (to reach the ‘Tunnel of Doom’, the gateway to Summerholt). Better than going to Whitefay, then go due East, then due North and pass Summerholt Lake. And after a harrowing journey of trolls always behind me and getting nearly owned by them, I made it to Summerholt. It was just a ‘short’ drive East to the NEXA Market.
But 10 meters before I could reach it, I got severe lag (that caused a lagout). Thanks to the auto-relog, I made it to the market. And just like in Glasshollow, I parked the wagon over grass (for the bison to graze) and then started browsing their wares. Out of all the merchants, only one of them had compasses (five of them). But something was off with them.. they have high WoA on them, and that makes them 1-2s each.
After a confused self rant of why in the fuck compasses need WoA when they’re fast enough (for me anyway), I asked Global Kchat, also half-expecting to get a few sarcastic responses.., but I actually got helpful ones. Seems having WoA on a compass, actually makes it insanely fast (to where it settles the instant you stop moving). There’s this one that 83QL with 88WoA, for 2.30s. The price sickened me, to ask that much for a compass felt like highway robbery, but I was told it’s very much worth it.
Gritted my teeth, and threw the money in the guy’s face (like saying “I hope you choke on it”).
So… was it actually worth 2.30s? Well, I wouldn’t say it’s instantaneous (like half a second after I stop). Server lag seems to also affect how long it takes. But, at least B2 finally has a compass (my old one).
I hope to one day ‘get my money back’ though, by selling something of equal (or higher) value. Such as, if I do decide to disband my deed, to have a ‘yard sale’ on the forum.

Now with a better compass for B2… I didn’t know where to go next. Decided to check out this ‘Serpent’s Back’ bridge I see to the SE, but I also wanted to see if I could find this merchant deed I remember stopping by months ago, after getting those two larders from Saint and going back north to Cele on my boat. But try as I might, it seemed I just couldn’t find this coastal deed that I got my BoTD Trowel from.
Turns out the NEXA Market, -is- the deed that I got it from. Yet there are certain things I don’t remember seeing back then. I also found where I saw all of those smoking charcoal piles as I exited the canal. There’s a huge tree farm, just above the cave canal.
As I was preparing to follow the roads south to get to this bridge, I saw a moving Corbita heading for the cave canal. Made a mad dash back to the top of it, hoping to get a few pictures of watching this thing pass under me. It’s not very common to see people controlling boats (as most people enjoy being AFK and grinding their skills infront of a forge).
Starting to feel burned out with all of this traveling I’ve been doing for this half week (almost wishing I could remotely bring my boat to me), I made it to Black Castle and White Castle (I was expecting to see a marble structure actually named ‘White Castle’, with seating areas and ’employee’ merchants with White Castle uniforms.. I was disappointed).
Instead, I see merchants below that I cannot access (because of a bridge, and a locked gate beyond it). There was fortunately one of the co-deed owners here, who showed me a path to the merchants (and also mentioning how they have to fence everything up due to some lowlife jerks).

Made it to that cool named Dragon’s Spine bridge, and got to the other side. This is where I started getting all whiny and shit about how I still was unsure what the hell I’m going to do with my Wurm life (and also when I had lost internet access).
3/4 of me wants to go back home (not because this was a bad idea, because this ‘idea’ isn’t helping me decide as I’d hoped it would). The other 1/4 wants me to not give up so easily. But seriously, I AM running out of (accessible) places to explore. To close my eyes and pick a random point on the map to go to, attempting to find roads that’ll lead me to it (and hoping they still look like that with how many months has already passed), is slowly becoming the killer of my enjoyment (of exploration), of this server. As I have said, countless times… I have to absolutely, positively, KNOW where the fuck I am at all times! And that alone ‘kills’ the ‘fun’ of adventuring, because it’s so much ‘fun’ to get lost and have NO fucking idea how to get back.

As you can see, this is what I’ve been since Day 3 of doing this, and now it’s.. Day 5? And this “extended downtime”, ‘courtesy’ of my ISP, isn’t helping (in the slightest) to help me calm down in order to make a decision. I don’t think there -can- be a decision made, except.. live with someone else who would allow me to not change how I play Wurm.. aka, be a lowlife freeloader (since I so very much dislike paying for upkeep anymore, the entire driving force that caused this).
If Dragonshearts had a better-looking deed, I might just move in with him. Instead I’m thinking of leaving him, and looking for a deed that has better road access (and just live in Xan for the rest of my Wurm life).

I seriously need someone ELSE to guide me in the right direction, because I can’t do this on my own (not this time).
EDIT: Internet service FINALLY fucking came back on, four hours later (at 4:19am).

Glasshollow bound, and friendly people

Currently in the capital of Xanadu — Glasshollow, and it’s also where I’ll be resting for the night (while also looking for the things I promised I would find B2). Back in Esteron, I was unable to find Soleil… but there was one time where I really didn’t give a fuck to see him again (losing my interest in exploration, as ‘exploration’ means adventure, and ‘adventure’ means to go to areas you’re scared of going to).
But a fellow explorer helped to boost my spirits back up (and even giving me an idea that might help to achieve my ‘nomad life'(which I will be discussing in my debriefing on the 18th(a week and two days away from now)), also showing compassion for what I went through up on that mountain.

So let’s get the ball rolling. I tried to ask anyone I saw (while on the island of Esteron) if they’ve seen someone named Soleil, and if they did to please tell me where he want. I was pretty sure none of the locals have even heard (nor seen) of his name, and it seemed I was right. While at the same time, I also wanted to see just how many roads are actually on the map here (to really get a handle for navigating around the SE quadrant of Xanadu).
Following Esteron’s SW coast, I ended up at a few dead deeds (that had things I could loot (though I still don’t get why I’m doing this)). One of them was a Nymph statue (that my jaw dropped to the floor when I was able to load THIS.. yet I couldn’t get in the planter?! #Wogic)
One of these dead deeds was also an underground cave system (with a manmade canal going into it), with an unlocked tent right there for the looting (it had the Take option). I highly debated if I should take it or not, but I felt I couldn’t live with myself if I did. This could’ve been someone else’s attempt of living like a nomad, and it would feel wrong to do so. And so my common sense won this debate and I left it.
Further West along the coast, took me to a pretty nice deed (called ‘Southern Comfort’) that has a boat canal (connecting to the southern ocean). The house here wasn’t accessible, but the rest of the deed was. There’s also a marble statue of troll (named “Enki, Lord of Trolls”), standing proudly while surrounded by a small puddle of water. Next to it is a Black Legion flag.
Heh, ‘Lord of Trolls’ is a perfect title for Enki (during the Impalongs). 🙂

Any further west (looking at the map), would take me through a valley full of blinding trees (once the roads end). It was since then that I started to get bitter at myself, my fear of getting lost and/or losing my bison (incase I have to unhitch, lead them and pull the wagon) overpowered my curiosity of seeing the cool-looking deeds there.
I went back up the coast and paused, staring at the dark bay (it was night), wishing B2 had a high enough ML that he could come here on my boat and pick me up. And also wishing (even more) that the devs would release a monthly (or even a quarterly) map dump of all the worlds (that way I would know if the road was extended or not).
One can dream, but it requires so much manpower to make it into a reality. *sighs*
Eventually I thought “I’ll just go to Glasshollow, and try to figure out what to do next.”
Soleil has no fear of going up or down mountains, or even losing his bison (as he didn’t pay big money for them). I wish I had this courage. …But it also made me not give a fuck if I -ever- see him again, feeling “I should had stayed with Umawarrior.. wtf am I doing?”
(And on, and on.. all the way out of Esteron)

Sol rose as I reached the point that I was able to get up the mountain (near the ‘We’re So High Up Meow’ deed)….. but now I can’t get fucking back down for some reason! Trying to look for that ‘sweet spot’ I took, and I can’t find the damn thing!
I can see this useless, unfinished bridge, wondering if I should just set up a temp camp, plop down my forge, and make the parts needed to finally build the thing (since no one else is). But instead (after killing a few mobs), I pushed the wagon down the mountain, vowing to never return to Esteron until the new highway is installed.
Now back on the main roads, I started thinking about things that I never factored in (when I had this stupid idea). Again, more on this in the debriefing.

About 700 or so meters away from the E/W highway that connects Whitefay to Summerholt, I needed to park in a secluded area to restart my game (and take something for a headache I’ve had all day).
With my head feeling much better, I logged in and immediately heard the sound of a wolf dying, with someone named ‘Ntstlkr’ in local. Turned out he too is an explorer, heading north (but going to Whitefay to buy a deed stake). I don’t think he realizes that he can save a lot of money by making one himself.
Anyway, we talked about Xanadu and exploring it, and I mentioned how I was trying to see if I could live like a nomad while also having a deed in Cele (saying “so far it’s iffy”). He says “but doable thats how ive done things”… hmmm.
I also found out he’s from my era of joining Wurm (living in JK-H). Lots of old timers here in Xanadu. He wanted Rolf to bring back the old server (even though he retired from Wurm a long time ago). I thought of maybe having “Classic Wurm” (pretty sure angry would like that), with the old mechanics (such as before having multi-leveled structures, and horses (yes, back then we didn’t have horses. That wasn’t until 2010 with the Freedom server opening, which became Independence)).
Hell, maybe re-create ‘Benie Bay’ and have angry join me for it. Bring back all the old folks too. That would be nice. Hmm.

Anyway, back to the present, he also said that he was planning to build a boat and sail to Chaos. I said “well if you have nothing to lose sure”, saying I ‘explored’ JK-W (more like hung out infront of the capital, hoping to see a dragon). He claims he died a few times but didn’t get into many fights, but I’m just going to stay in the Freedom Isles.
We eventually reached his destination (as I was finishing up my horrific story of being lost on a mountain). He said I was brave doing that, and wouldn’t do it. This alone helped to restore my faith as a Wurmian, that what happened was really “just another day in Wurm Online”.

I made it to Vrock Landing (though it nearly got dicey earlier going up a hill with a troll behind me, and I’m out of stamina) for the second time since exploring the server. Since it’s night, I wanted to wait ’till Solrise to see vistas I haven’t seen yet. And, there were many! This is one of the most beautifully-placed roads I’ve seen in Xan so far, where a few times, my brain is all “dude, get the fuck OFF the wagon and go shutter crazy!” Holy FUCK these VIEWS!! 😀
The road then went down to the water table, going around the same lake that Cindy and I walked to get to Vrock Landing. I could clearly see just how far the journey there would had taken, if I didn’t say to go back when Sol was setting. Because even on a wagon, it took 45 minutes to get there (probably sooner if I didn’t go all tourist by stopping to take pictures). But, ehh. The journey is more important than the destination.
Three Sol rises later, from the SE point of the server (Esteron), I made it to the NW point of the server (Glasshollow). Just over 15,000 meters (guesstimating 25 or so miles) of travel.
I have DONE it! Glasshollow, by wagon! Went to the market and parked my wagon where I had parked it during the impalong last year. There was only a few spots where it showed there was an impalong here. Walked around, remembering those good (and bad) times.. aka, when I had died for the first time ever during an Impalong. Yet also remembering this was the first time my limited skills were accepted to help people! And it felt really, really good.
I hope to reach 60 BS in the Pri Impalong.
So anyway, now that I’m here, it’s time to go shopping to get B2 some proper adventuring gear (a tent, a better compass, and a better toolbelt). As for the tent, I realize that this might be something I could make myself for him (and save so much money in the process). I remember having a ton of wemp fiber back home in Cele, that I can make the cordage rope required. I got plenty of square pieces of cloth (from the person that gave me the loom, and also encouraged me to get a Knarr). And the rest I can fairly easily make myself.
The toolbelt, I found a mid QL one for 10c. I wanted to find something higher, yet I thought I could have it imped at the Pri Impalong.
And finally for the compass… for some reason I cannot find one. I think I may either have to ask, or even go back to my boat and sail to Inde, and check out FM (where I got mine years ago).
A bit surprising that I can’t find a compass here, in the biggest market of the Freedom Isles. Not even the Dragon or Lumpy markets have one. Though, there’s the NEXA(Northeast Xanadu Alliance) Market at Summerholt. I believe this is also where I bought my BoTD Trowel from. So they should have a compass for B2.
However, I’m not immediately going to go there.. not yet anyway. Going to stay around this side of the server for a bit.

Back on the road(s) again (and staying there)

All I can really say from a day ago’s traumatic experience, is “kudos to the road workers!” And to show my appreciation for their efforts, I’m sticking to nothing BUT roads.
Since I’m feeling much better (yet still having a fear that one of these days, my bison won’t be able to come back to me.. and I won’t know what the fuck to do), I decided to try getting to Tulum again (except from the West this time). I saw roads that might lead to something interesting that might get me access to a secret tunnel, that’ll get there.
All I needed to do was get back to Lormere, and then follow the road up to ‘Mountain View’ (which no longer exists and looks nothing like on the map). This was also a very critical time that I needed to get off and go eat, and I was able to find a spot within the deed to do so.

Coming back and getting back on the road, trying to go north, I saw a hell hound and a troll just up the road. I waited patiently for the bison to ‘warm up’. But when this started taking longer than five minutes, I (obviously) started to get pissed off at this ‘working as intended’ bullshit.
Someone who was in local before, asked if I live around here. I said no I’m an explorer, and they literally said “I was hoping you said shopping at our merchants :)”… I wanted to say to the person “bitch please! I’m not in the fucking mood to talk right now!!” I groomed them, I made sure they were fully fed (and they were), and they were STILL going 13.67km/h!
It took.. TEN. FUCKING. MINUTES (get that through your mind.. ten RL minutes) for the bison to finally get to their top speed! This is TOTALLY ‘working as intended’!! D:{ (when it takes mere SECONDS for my horses to get to top speed)
Oy vey.. finally left the person’s local, and I wanted to hop off and slap the living hell out of the bison for taking that fucking long to get to top speed. If I didn’t require them to get this wagon moving, I probably would had left them up on that mountain!
Anyway, I continued to follow the road and then took this small East road away from the main roads, that lead to a pretty sizable German-themed deed called ‘Siebenstein’ (the ‘stein’ (from playing the Wolfenstein series) gave the idea this was a German deed.. and the media says playing video games are bad for you. lol). Using Google Translator was pretty interesting of typing in the words of these structure names.
There’s an invisible road (on the map) going East from this deed (the whole reason I went here). After what felt like three minutes of blindly running through a forest, where my only navigation is my compass (and the fear/anxiety of getting lost beginning to press upon my chest), I finally found the desert here (and a grass ‘road’ cutting through it, which is the thing I needed to be on), I eventually made it to my destination; the side of a mountain. No clear way of getting pass it.
But was I discouraged? Of course not! There’s another way there (or at least I hoped), via cave canal that runs right through the mountain, via the deed of ‘Hazedome’.

Eventually got there (in the dark, using my graphics card’s gamma settings to see). Now I’ve been to this place before, with a bunch of buildings named ‘Tribblemaker’. Everytime I look at them, I keep thinking of what it would be like if the Best Boi community made an alliance in Wurm. Just a bunch of buildings called ‘Kibblemeister’. Heh (see the similarities?) .
Got into the cave canal’s foot tunnel, and road it all the way to Tulum! Finally made it!! Except, this was what’s left of Tulum, and there are several things that haven’t been looted yet (including several marble flower pots with purple flowers). Knowing I wanted one for my future enclosure back home (if I do decide to go with it), I grabbed one and wow are they heavy. So heavy that I can’t put it in the wagon.
This is starting to make me feel this entire idea I had of using a wagon (to loot dead deeds), was greatly flawed. But, I’ll discuss this on the 18th (once I’m back home, as that’s the day I’ve chosen to leave).
I knew I needed to get back to my boat ASAP, and place it in there. While going there, I saw an alternate route there and eventually took it. The few guard towers there, helped deal with the assholes I couldn’t see following behind me. Made it back to my boat, and got the same “will not fit” message. Okay, you’re starting to piss me off, planter! What the fuck WILL you ‘fit in’?! The wiki was absolutely no help in figuring this out either.
Asked in CA HELP, no response. Suddenly I had an idea and got B2 on, and gave him the planter. That worked!
Now with that heavy thing out of my inventory, I tried to figure out where to go next. Decided to try to head back to the island of Esteron, and see if I can find Soleil somewhere there (if he’s still there, that is). I found another route that would take me around some mountains to get me to The Three-Legged Troll that would connect me to the road to Esteron (but made sure the roads fully connect, or are close to eachother that I won’t get lost too much).
Nearly to where I start to go on unfamiliar roads, I see road construction infront of me (the road removed and a pit in its place), with two people digging away. I wanted to “honk my horn” and figure out what the hell is this all about, one of them saw me and said that they’re trying to dig out a vein below the road, and said I can make a detour through (or around) the deed just to the north of me, to get further north.
So I did, thanking them for the info. And it worked.

Started to go on the long and winding bypass route, not sure how maintained the roads are after all of these months. One time I was going up this mountain.. fucking 40 slope up for ten minutes. Whoever did this should be shot at dawn, but luckily I had no mob encounters. There was also a lone guard tower and a water source at the very top, as if to say “congratulations for getting up here in one piece”.. but, 40 SLOPE?! These roads clearly weren’t designed for foot travel, only horseback. Had a lot of fun blasting down the other side at 25km/h though.
Further along the path, the roads changed into what wasn’t on the map (turning into a two lane highway), and I started getting concerned. I then started seeing.. a catseye highway? What?! This isn’t on the map! Thankfully a nearby waystone showed it was pointing exactly where I needed to go, and followed it without question. Eventually it lead me back to the main highway and went south. After nearly having an issue with a troll after my succulent backside, I lost it while leaving a tunnel. Arrived at The Three-Legged Troll 10-15 minutes later. Perfect timing, as I was overdue to restart my game.
Took advantage of the free food they had in a larder, like they were expecting weary travelers such as myself to show up. With a ‘quick’ restart of Wurm (to make sure my computer doesn’t have a fucking seizure), it was time to get back on the road.

Made it to the abandoned deed far to the south of the place I left, getting the towers to deal with a troll (as I was lagging constantly).. worse possible time to lag. With it dead, I continued up the mountain, knowing I’ll reach a point where I’ll be forced to push the wagon up it. Saw an adol troll, and planned to run back to the tower if it got ugly. But with 50% health left, the troll shockingly fell to the ground and died infront of me. Nice! I had no more troll encounters since then, and was able to (nearly) heal myself up with several mobs.
On the way to the part where I would have to push the wagon, I saw a few dead mobs on the road. Either Soleil has been here (and has left Esteron), or these bodies are from before I had this crazy idea (and was on horseback). Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell (by putting my hand on the bodies) and seeing if they’re still warm or not (to see how recently they were killed), or even check what weapon they were killed with. This could had been added to the Tracking skill.
Soon I reached the spot, but it seemed fortune has smiled upon me as I was able to go up this hill with very little issues!! VERY nice!! I think this nearly proves Soleil was here (and smoothed out the terrain for any future travelers to get through safely). And if he was, that means he’s no longer in Esteron (or it could’ve been someone else). Still, I continued SE.
The road to Esteron has also gotten better. The areas where it was nothing but grass and packed dirt, is now paved. I also met the one doing it, and said hey before continuing East.
I’ve now arrived safely in Esteron, by wagon (and took half the time it did when I first got here via Soleil)! That shortcut (bypassing Greymead and Whitefay), taking hours off of my travel time, really paid off.
Now all I need to do, is see if I can find Soleil (or find anyone that knows where he went).

I GOT LOST ON A MOUNTAIN?! (gone wrong) (tower guards called) (I died)

Currently resting (while also trying to (fully) calm my nerves) at a place called ‘Hermit Isle’, located on Xanadu’s southern coast. Its resting areas of just watching the ocean go by.. a place of Zen much? THIS.. is also something I wanted to have back home (but didn’t know how to install it). The deed in Exo, had something similar. But this works perfectly for where I marked it out in Deedplanner. It’ll definitely require some effort (possibly having to destroy, and rebuild the East wall (and the private canal gate)).
Anyway, back to eventually finding my way in Xan. I decided to turn around and follow the coast. Now with the fact I can focus on DH -only-, I’ll be able to pay attention better.
Found something that looks like a canal, and went in the extremely narrow thing (that looks like it took many, many years of labor to bring the rock layer down to the water table.

Now I’m FINALLY in the fucking bay, I followed the west coast up. There I saw what Dragonshearts was talking about, with the bridges that span the bay. And holy fuck, this is possibly the most INSANE bridge work I’ve ever seen in my Wurm life!!
Nearly halfway to the deed I remembered, the person that sold me the crates (Jimbean) PMs me and asks for a favor.. of going back to Cele and participating as a listener for a sermon. For some reason, I think I still owe this guy for what he’s done for me. But after mentioning where I was (and the lack of wind), he knew it would be too out of the way for me and said he would try to find someone else. Eventually he did, and I was able to continue what I was doing.
Arrived as Sol had fully set, and gave B2 directions to get to me. And he encountered the second unpinned champ wolf (but luckily was able to outrun this one with no problem). He soon made it to me, and this is when I was forced to give him the bad news; “your adventure is done”. It’s nothing that he did ‘wrong’, it’s how BS unoptimized this game is (to where I can barely dual client anymore on this hardware(without my FPS tanking int0 the 30’s and 20’s)). And guess what? They didn’t make it any fucking better with their next update. However, they actually did a smart thing of making it optional to have these latest prettiest settings (and having it disabled by default).
Now with B2 safe in the boat, I don’t have to worry about him anymore. However, before I leave this server, I plan to buy a tent for him (and a better compass, and a toolbelt) at Glasshollow Market. Then he can be an explorer too– a far cry from only being my
cook.
But instead of going straight for Glasshollow, I wanted to see if Dragonshearts was right that his deed has road access. And if it does, then I could reposition the boat there instead. But as I was enroute, I got distracted by the deed name that a waystone was pointing South to.. the same fucking place that made me lost of trying to get here. So I wanted to see just where the fuck this deed was.
I then realize, one of the two bridges was my god damn ticket to the canal I needed to access! This fucking thing isn’t on the map, yet here it is! So clearly, the bridge was made sometime after the mapdump. No wonder I got lost! The deed itself though, is neat. It’s mostly made out of pottery brick.
A bit further east, I noticed the new infestation of unicorns (which have been bumped up in their spawn rates with the latest update).
I tried to explore the islands further East, but there was no clear way to get there. Went up this one tile mountain road, thinking there should be a decayed route (but the slope would be maintained). And although I saw what was a road, it didn’t last long. Looking at the map, there appears to be an alternate route east… but I’ll have to go to Esteron (and somehow try to take the old roads to get to it, which seems to not be possible the last time I was there). So it’s highly possible, what I see to the east is only accessible by sea, and it’s an alliance.
Instead I backtracked, and that’s when I found Hermit Isle. Since the island has mines, clearly it wasn’t manmade. Great work by whoever owns it.

Now heading up north on a stretch of highway not on the map (but following the catseyes), attempting to reach Dragonshearts’ deed (to again, see if he’s right), this brought me to a quite secluded (but dead) deed, between two mountains. The place is really nice, and (at one time) looked like no looters vandalized the place.
Looking back at the map, I saw where I was. And I also remember passing a road on the left as I got here. Surely that road should take me close enough to reach his place, and I went back.
This was a one tile wide gravel road, going West than North a lot (which wasn’t on the map). It almost reminded me of going back home to OR when I was living there (except, not as long of a distance). It actually lead me to the shoreline, where I saw something to the north of me. I thought I had overshot his place and tried to go south, but there were no roads along the coast. So I went to the thing to the north.. nice, I made it! Stayed inside the deed and looked at the map again (while waiting for Sol to rise), feeling a bit more adventurous. I saw it might be possible to get to Tulum next.
With Sol now up, I followed the map as close as possible, doing offroading as expected. Came up on a large desert (with a single guard tower here). Next part was seeing what appears to be a N/S road (but decayed) connecting to an actual E/W road ahead.
Though acres of blinding fur trees I trekked, hoping to reach this road. Got lost a bit, but I was able to orient myself in the right direction. Soon I discover the road.. with half of it already decayed itself. There’s also this deed in the middle of absolutely nowhere, with accessible pens (including one with a champ black wolf that I swear wasn’t penned). I could literally walk in and kill it if I wanted to, but decided against it. Though I would assume the person that owns the deed, has probably set the perms to prevent me from doing so.

The next step to get to Tulum, was to go up this mountain. This would prove to be my ultimate downfall (that still somewhat shivers me to the bone.. which is NOT good, and it proves I do not have what it takes to live like a nomad). 20 minutes in, and I felt horribly lost.. to the point I’m whining how I just want to go home and this was a mistake. I wanted to contact a GM just to get me down from here.. I’m serious, and I nearly did it.. if it wasn’t for myself stopping me and saying I would be wasting their time. Night came, and fog built, making it even harder on me to know where I’m coming from or going to.
Tried to get ahold of myself, and studied the map. All I wanted to do was fuck trying to get to Tulum and get back down from where I came from. North and East was the ticket. I tried going down, but there were 40 and 50 slopes all down the fucking hill. I went back and forth, trying to hit a ‘weak point’ that I could easily get my ass back down.. nothing!
The only way I could see, was unhitch the bison and push the cart down the hill. No sooner than a few minutes later, a ven troll pops up. I tried to fight it, but I knew I was fighting a losing battle.
So I threw down my tent. But instead of worrying about myself, I was more worried about the bison. I knew when I die, they would run away. I tried to re-hitch them as fast as I could, but I was too fucking ‘busy’ dealing with the damn troll to do that.
It killed me, and I tried to find the tent as the respawn point. I was getting deeply concerned as it wasn’t showing up in the list, but I eventually found it and respawned, knowing I HAVE to get my bison back ASAP.

The troll was right there on my corpse, and gave chase. I tried to lead it away to give me time to loot my corpse, but my mouse hand was shaking with pure fear and I couldn’t click right. The troll would not go away, but at least I did find my bison not too far from where I had died.
Then I had an idea to run away from my tent as far as I could, to lead the troll far away from my corpse (and my bison), and let it kill me. I had 5% health left, and I said “just kill me now”. And it was like I could hear the troll laughing and taunting me (as it took awhile before it killed me again).
Once again, I picked the tent as my respawn point. The idea worked, and I was able to calm down my mouse hand to get everything out of the corpse and re-equip my gear and items. I ran over to the bison and re-lead them back to the wagon, and continued to push the wagon down the hill. I could feel my nerves were pretty shot, and any remaining feeling of adventure was out of my system.. all I wanted was to get the FUCK off this mountain.
To say I felt like an embarrassment ‘to my kind’ would be an understatement, but I told myself “it’s just a game, you can get your skills back up at the impalong, it’s not the end of the world that you died” and tried calming down. I’m also glad at myself for coming up with that brilliant idea to lead the troll away from my corpse.
Started slipping and sliding as I continued to push the wagon down the mountainside. Then one time I saw the wagon was tilting upwards, and I thought of re-hitching the bison. Got back on, and was able to FINALLY get down the fucking mountain! A few minutes later, I see the road! YES!! THANK. FUCK!! Now down at sea level (and back in familiar territory), it was quite hard to focus as I felt mentally exhausted. I literally wanted to hop off, get on the ground and kiss the cobblestone (for existing when I needed it the most)! I logged out, waiting for Sol to rise (while counting my blessings).
At the same time, this almost made me physically upset at myself for the way I acted up there. Soleil wouldn’t be like this. He can handle it. He knows that skills aren’t important to keep intact. But then again, maybe he was trying to hide his own fears from me (though I seriously doubt it from the tone of his words). He knows it’s “just a game”… I have yet to ‘learn’ this, with how fucking spoiled my life is.
Sol has risen again, and I somewhat feel better. I realize I’m not out of danger yet, but I know how to get back. And get back I did, all the way back to the main roads, and went straight back for Hermit Isle, to (hopefully) collect the rest of my remaining thoughts.

I honestly don’t know what the fuck to do now. My fear of dying in a video game is just so fucking strong, that I can’t control it!! I nearly LOST MY FUCKING BISON!! This shit keeps going through my mind ever since what happened!
Half of me just wants to stay here (where it’s safe and secure, with guard towers making sure not a single troll will lay a finger on me). But the other half.. *sighs* the other half wants me to get back up, forget about what happened, and continue. But.. I just don’t know right now.
I feel like I need a hug, telling me “everything’s going to be OK”.. that’s seriously how pathetic I am right now.

B2’s Excellent Adventure / DH’s lost on (the coast of) Xanadu

Yesterday was the big day (and also for my RL neighbors to shoot off their loud ass fireworks). But, it’s the 4th and to be expected.
So after (nearly) forgetting about B2 (twice.. once when leaving home and the other after crossing over to Xan), we were off! On the Xan community map, I marked out a spot to dock (that connects to the main highway system). Priority #1 is to get to a public mine, and get B2’s ML up to 21.00. Then he can drive my wagon while I reposition my boat.
I was originally planning to head alllllll the way up north to Glasshollow, but since Linton (that we had arrived at) has a public mine just north of the market, I decided to drop him off here and explore the area while he grinded.
I crossed this random long arch stone bridge in the middle of the desert (further north up the road) and groomed every animal I saw. And then I saw something that looked like it was right out of a Bob Ross painting (with the dead horse just to the right, a ‘happy little accident’). Buried it since taking the shot.
If Valrei had some rings around it, you’d swear the planet that Wurm is part of was an alien planet. I felt like I could just stay there past Solset, and admire the beauty that is Xanadu. There’s also a small’ish lake (seen in this shot, with Valrei setting below the horizon). It’s things like this, what keeps me playing.
Nearly 45 minutes to an hour later, B2 had finally reached the 21.00 ML milestone! Now he can drive my wagon around! I also saw that with him driving, he can take me to an animal that doesn’t flee when they see the player (bulls, rams, and horses), and I can groom it while in the passenger seat (and since I’m not driving, I won’t have stamina to focus on (to get the fastest groom)). The plan worked perfectly, while I also instructed B2 to get back to the boat.

Back at the boat, I told B2 to plot a course for Lormere while I head to where I originally parked (when I first explored the server). I was pretty sure he would get there first, and I was right (and then some)… the reason being, of (DH) trying to finding a specific point to aim for, to get him access into the bay. Instead I end up getting lost (and quite pissed) of certain bridges being here…, but they’re not showing on the fucking map!
Now as said, B2 made it to Lormere (alive). Proud of him. Hopefully tomorrow, I can figure out just where the hell I am..

“How much for those four 5-speed biii-SON in the window?!”

“The ones that look like they can be my bitch because I’m bored with this game and want to do something else!”
I think this shows just how crazy I’ve gotten from being obsessed. Honestly though, I’m not that far gone — or am I? And before I forget, Happy Birthday, USA! 😀
Joke’s aside, yesterday was one of the two days, of trying to find someone to sell me the bison I needed. To make it easier on myself (and it’ll help sellers better understand what I’m looking for), I decided to make a forum post and link it as my response on the Trade channel.
I got a total of three responses. The first one, had one male yet all the females were pregnant. The second, had three males yet all of their females are pregnant (seems to be a recurring theme all the sudden). And the 3rd, had a male and a female.
I decided on the three males (from the person with this crazy ass long name of ‘Wyczesanymieczyslaw’), and the other (who had the female for sale) is actually from someone I still remember from the Glasshollow Impalong (‘Goldfinch’).
Crazy ass long name (the person’s new nickname), is from Exo (the person who has made a FUCK ton of boats). And of course Goldfinch is from Pri. Took 2.5s out of the token (as every bison is 50c.. yet looking back at this, I should had only taken out 2s(math flaw there)) and left the deed in my Knarr.

Due to the unfavorable light wind (and ‘crazy ass long name’ needing to go soon), I attempted to get to them first. Though he said that I could just buy some keys at the merchant there, and get the bison without him being there (and all I need to do is put the keys back after I’m done with them). It’s just like that ‘Vend-A-Horse’ deed (that’s near Lormere in Xanadu). I gladly accepted these terms, as I don’t want the person to have to wait for my slow ass to get there.
Made it to Exo, and had nearly passed the deed. Going over what the person said, I did a 180 and tried to look for a spot to unload 3 of the four creature cages. Found the merchant and did exactly as told, and got the bison.
And loading the full cages in… WORKS!! 😀 Then I was off to Pri.

As I was enroute, Gold reminded me of the upcoming Pristine Impalong and asked if I’m going to attend, I told him that I’ll try my best to be there (warning that certain RL factors might cause me to not attend). He understanded this.
Though I was on the correct side of the server, I ended up going the wrong way (and it’s night). I was thinking I needed to pass by Dragon Beard.. which actually was not true. Corrected my mistake and went around to the north, and met Gold on the road. There, is where I was confused why I had more money than I intended. I thought I had gotten one of the bison for free, and instead I took 50c more out than I needed. *facepalm*
Because of this, he had to get 10c back as change that I waited for. As I waited, I checked the other three cages in my boat’s hold and saw they were near 0.50 damage. Seems they’re kicking and screaming (and it’s only been 25 minutes since I loaded them in).
Got the change, and he offered to give me a free 4-speed bison that he’s trying to get rid of. As much as I like free stuff, a Knarr cannot hold more than four cages (and was forced to turn it down).

The bison (three adol males and one aged female) are now home with me, and hitched to my wagon. Instead of starting up ‘Operation: Nomad’ as I’d planned to do, I decided to do the same tests I did with my two 5-speed ven horses (running them around the deed, the neighborhood, and to Tap Dance). This time (for the Tap Dance test), I took B2 with me (to also test if they’ll come after him before me).
The results (after arriving at Tap Dance Market), are mixed this time. Though I absolutely love how they’ve maintained their top speed (proving that claim).. I think I may’ve ran into the ‘bug’ that Pryath mentioned (yet never said what it actually was). I saw this when I was home, and I saw it again at Tap Dance Market.
After grooming and trying to go, for some odd reason they’re defaulting to their ‘wild’ top speed of 13.67km/h.. and this lasts a LOT longer than I’ve seen with the horses, potentially up to a minute that I have to be sitting there waiting for them to realize they’re 5-speeds again. They’re still fully fed.. so what gives?!

I wanted to ask in Global Kchat if this is indeed a bug, but it was too random and shit to even bother doing so (and instead made a thread explaining my findings). This could be ‘intended behavior’, or it might actually be the bug.
Hopefully I’ll find out in the morning. Even if it is ‘working as intended’, it’s not a major issue (just a major annoyance). And of course Wargasm of all people responds to me, claiming that it actually takes ‘a few minutes’ for bison to use their traits.
Waiting for the next response, explaining my earlier testing with the horses (and how I only had to wait 10 seconds for them to start back up.. yet you tell me a few minutes for bison?! WHY!? Because #Wogic?!).. I refuse to settle with such a BS answer.

But ‘refusing to settle’ or not, I won’t have a choice it it’s actually ‘working as intended’. Nevertheless, now that I’m back home, I’ve started the preliminary steps to get Operation: Nomad going (gathering up stuff I feel I’ll need in my wagon). I’m actually kind of concerned if the extra weight (or ‘volume’ in this case) in the wagon, is even going to fit in my boat. And I’ve got to know. Because if it doesn’t, I might have to make several trips.

In any case, I’m pretty sure attempting to sell most of my stuff is going to take a long time.. because once I disband, I’m not doing this again. I’m going deedless, just like Soleil. Paying for this deed every month, isn’t fun to me anymore. Redesigning, isn’t fun to me anymore. I’m tired of it. I’m tired of the effort, and watching my plans fail.. and I rather ‘restart’ my Wurm life by living like a nomad. Typically (in the past), I had angry that always had something for me to do. This time, I’m on my own, and I must make a decision.
Though I will admit, I also feel (at the same time), that I might be making a grave mistake by doing this. Having to literally rough it, with no deed walls to protect me from mobs (outside of maybe a public deed here and there). I’m only thinking of the positives, and not the negatives. Yet the negatives never stopped Soleil.. though I’m also not like him (with being the adventurous type).
What’s worse, there will be no ‘undo button’ (when most of my stuff is already sold, or taken by looters). This is why, I have to be absolutely 100% sure I want to do this. Aka, having no second thoughts, and no regrets.

…Infact, let’s try this! Instead of getting super stressed out over the unknown, why not ‘dip my toes’ and ‘test drive’ surviving as a nomad, for like a week and a half (while also keeping my deed alive for now)? If I’m all smiles, and feel confident that I can handle it, then I’ll make it permanent. But if I feel this isn’t for me (and all I want to do is go back home), then I’ll have an out. It’s a win-win for me! 🙂
I can do this in Xanadu, just like before when I explored on horseback. I’ll survive, only with what’s in my wagon (and bring B2 with me, as he still needs to work on his ML). It’ll be an adventure. And the whole ‘week and a half’ is basically how long I got until the Pristine Impalong gets close enough that I need to work out a plan for that as well.
All I need to do (for Xan), is to find a place (somewhere on the shoreline) that’ll connect me to the main catseye highway, sail to it and start there. I might even visit Soleil, and see how he’s doing.

RE: Living my Wurm life as a nomad? What needs to change

Happy July, folks! Just past the mid year point. Soon it’ll be winter again. Fun times.
You know what else is fun? Having a one-sided argument with someone who thinks most of Wurm’s problems are “in my head”– how I’m stressing out for no reason.
And I think for the first time in my Wurm life… they might be right. As this entire thing has been nothing but an emotional rollercoaster for the past three days since I came back home from exploring Xan on horseback (that I ‘created for myself’ (driven from my irrational fear of dying in a video game, that continues to plaque me)).
It goes up when I hear good news. Then when I ask someone else (to verify the claim of the good news(so I won’t get screwed over if it’s not actually true)) actually counters this news with logic(not Wogic, but RL logic), it goes down.

And this is about if age matters of who uses speed boosts more frequently (which could be the difference between life and death, defending on the outcome), bison VS horses. I’ve been told that adol animals run slower than aged (forcing one to be good at breeding), yet also was told that only mobs are affected by age. See where the rollercoaster comes from? This can be the difference between running away from threats, or being pummeled to death by a troll when going up a long ass 20 slope highway (that Xanadu is infamous for).

Sure, throwing down a tent so you’ll respawn where it was, works… but it’s also the fucking principle (that death is embarrassing when you’re not a newbie)! And then the “what if”‘s come in; “what if the mob refuses to walk away and camps my corpse (and I have no way to tell if it walks away as my screen will be filled with flashing red)?” “What if the same mob keeps killing me.. will my skills literally be reduced back to 1.00 with enough deaths?”
*sigh* But, I also got to remember, I won’t have a deed anymore (if I do this). Living like a nomad, I won’t feel I have to be forced to come on, just to re-pay for something I really don’t enjoy anymore (in order to ‘keep my legacy alive’ as a deed owner). And without a deed, these skills would really only be needed for any future Impalongs I might feel like attending (including the upcoming one on the 27th).

However, I have news regarding the whole “age matters” debate. Recent solo testing with an alternative means to see if this stupid idea would even work (my two ven 5-speeds pulling a large cart, with my high WoA shoes split between the two), have shown some favorable results. This test originally was around the deed, then around the ‘neighborhood’, and finally a long distance test to Tap Dance and back home.
When well fed (“does not seem interested in food right now/seem hungry any longer”), a top speed between 15-18km/h (on flat terrain, which includes their speed boosts). The only time I’ve seen them drop below 15, is if one of them suddenly gets really hungry. Then I have to stop for 5 or so seconds after feeding, and they’re back up past 13.
This test also tests something else, to see just how frequent they would use their speed boosts due to age.
At the conclusion (of successfully getting back home without a single scratch on my clothing, I’m happy to report;
Horses/Bison get slower when ven: NO! It is only with mobs.
Horses/Bison use speed boosts less when ven: NO! Uma and my vens use it the same frequency.
The only major drawback, is this isn’t a good option for living like a nomad (as a large cart doesn’t hold as much as a wagon).

With horses now tested, I now need to test a few claims about bison. One of them is that bison stay top speed, and since I unfortunately have none in stock, I have to rely on others who do (and would be willing to do said tests for me). And as luck would have it, Moonjuice (the one who gave me Briskabbas and Emilkiss when they were foals) actually did some tests on their own. And they gave me some unfavorable (and some favorable) news).
First, the unfortunate news. Moon told me, that four 5-speed bison are actually slower than four 5-speed horses with high WoA gear (and was proven with a friend of theirs). But given my current limitations (no personal priest to keep the WoA enchant high, and how I can’t imp BS items past 50), they said to just stick with bison.
And now the fortunate news. After asking the person if they could test how reliable their top speed is, and I was told that it -seems- to be true. How long though, remains to be seen. This requires further testing, that I alone must do.

But the major drawback with bison, is four filled creature cages + wagon, will not fit in a Knarr (even if it has a size increase rune).
So I’m forced to decide on three options;
-Do I settle with less space, but less trips I’ll have to make with my Knarr?
-Do a settle with more space, but more trips I’ll have to make with my Knarr?
-Or.. do I just say “fuck all of this”, and go back to using a single 5-speed (and be limited to my player inventory for space)?

Though, there would be a light at the end of this dark tunnel (in the form of ‘Jimbean’).
Since the wiki says that a Knarr can hold “>200,000kg” as it’s maximum weight, I tried doing some simple math to see if my first option would even work (as I haven’t made a second creature cage.. too pissed/anxious/lazy to focus on making one). So I’m thinking “if I could just simulate the weight of a creature cage, maybe I can get a rough idea if this is going to work”. And by ‘simulate’, to load random things into the Knarr that would weigh 150.00kg (the weight of an empty creature cage). Things like the FSB with meat, one of my small carts, and a full log. It weighed 10kg higher than what I was looking for, but with the actual cage and large cart in it, it was still way below the maximum weight.
Making sure this wasn’t going to fuck me over (if my math was incorrect), I asked CA HELP. And…yes, yes it was. And not just ‘incorrect’, but flawed! Apparently, instead of weight (which is on the FUCKING wiki as BEING A THING), a Knarr (like all containers) uses size and volume to determine what can/t be loaded.
Then.. why.. in.. the LIVING FUCK, is there a god damn ‘Weight’ tab when you open it up!? If weight isn’t a thing, then WHY is it there?! And it seems no one had an answer (outside of “LOLOL WOGIC!!!”) Because ‘Wogic’ is always the answer to bullshit mechanics.
How about, once, the devs actually fucking say why they did it like this, or that (instead of defaulting on “Wogic” to cover their asses)?

Anyway, this is where the aforementioned ‘Jimbean’ comes in, saying “I have a knarr, wagon, cages, animals … what do you want to know?” And what I wanted to know, was actually two things.
How Wurm actually… allowed an idea I have. And two, why someone from Xanadu wanted to help me so well (who wanted nothing in return). I’m starting to feel Dragonshearts may have probably dealed with bad crowds, and felt the entire community is like this.. because they’re not! They are nice, just like this guy! But what’s more important… I. do. NOT NEED TO MAKE TWO TRIPS!! 😀 He showed me a secret, to load the wagon in first, then the cages (even while all of them are filled). The reason, is (currently) the cages have no volume. So, this may (or even may not) fuck me over in the future, if they decide to add volume to the cage.
As a bonus, after asking him if he’s selling those cages, he sold me them (after imping them to 40QL) for 60c (since creature cages are a pain in the ass to make (mainly for the need of iron fence bars of how much iron they require), it’s fair to me).

Now that the cages are home with me, all I need to do is buy four 5-speed bison.
I asked Jim (as I was enroute to Xan to pick up the cages), he said one of his alliance members were using them for milk. Since I don’t have the apparent ‘required’ AH needed (need 50 and I currently have 29) to nearly guarantee the offspring will be a 5-speed (definitely explains why Uma ‘failed me’ with that 3-speed), he said the ally member has agreed to breed me some 5-speeds.
But how I would have to wait a week (or two) ’till they’re born, and how I would be betting the RNGods would be nice and work in my favor… I rather try to find someone that already has some for sale. But I made a deal with him, that if I can’t get anyone willing to sell me some 5-speeds (within two days after buying the cages), I’ll have no choice but to accept the offer (and hope for the best).
If Zien gets on (the one that sold me Umawarrior), he offered bison. I actually plan to sell her back to him (since I won’t need her anymore with bison, and I might be able to use her to take some of the price for the bison down). That is, if he’s still selling the bison. If so, there’s my ticket (and it’s right up Cele).

In other news (and to close out this post), I’m currently getting B2’s ML up to 23.00 (currently 20.83), so he can drive my Knarr. The idea, is he can reposition it while I’m somewhere on the same server, and need a pickup. Yet it’s going to be a very, VERY long time until I get to have this luxury.
I’m also trying to get my copper chain gear re-imped, but this time to 90+. I’ve already gotten my axe to 95QL (it wasn’t cheap (costed 5s), but it was a necessary evil). All I hope is it lasts me a very, very long time until I need it again.
