Back to Gmod, and the “angry virus”

With my health post out of the way, I can post about what I did with gaming.
Eversince I updated my drivers due to that thing I saw in Mirror’s Edge, I haven’t played much. I was planning to get Spore Galactic Adventures today, but … lets say things came up.

Anyway, I did get back into Gmod, with help from angry. And I think it was a mistake asking for his help in getting the mess of files I had backupped from my last reinstall of Windows.
There’s a problem with Gmod. It’s not a lock up, but I think I got an “angry virus”. It seems like any Spacebuild map, about…ohh lets say 15-30 seconds after I get in and walk around the start area, my FPS drops like a bag of rocks.
It struggles to get back up to a comfortable level, but something keeps yanking it down to below 20 FPS.
Sometimes it just sits at 10 FPS. The reason why I call it a “virus” is because, it’s happening to him too, and it originally happened with him.
So I’m thinking “You fucking idiot! You fucked up my Gmod!!”, but he is my friend and I shouldn’t be so mad, and thought “Hmmm.. but still, no one in Facepunch is reporting this issue”.

I’m thinking Gmod is saying “HAHAHA.. no” to just copy/pasting my garrysmod folder, and wants me to reinstall every little fucking thing one by one. All I know is this did not happen before.
I will have to go through hell to know what I downloaded, where I downloaded it, and where does it install. And I don’t have the patience to do that.

I’m not even using any SpaceBuild gamemode. Why? Spacebuild is dead to me. It “died” when Version 2 came out which meant bye bye using a Climate Regulator on your ship. It was like a cheat code.
Plus I keep hearing Version 3 is still full of bugs, and I think production of it has stopped before full release. And it’s just not fun anymore when I can’t go on a Spacebuild server without lagging like shit.
That’s why I don’t deal with Spacebuild anymore. However I still enjoy Spacebuild maps. Especially with the flyable SBEP ships.

But anyway, I have to take care of this god damn slowness. Plus… why is it taking 5 fucking minutes to load a map?

A depressing blog post about my health

My my has this been a busy week since I got my new motherboard and video card.

I really haven’t been gaming today over having other things on my mind. More… personal things I can’t really explain in this blog. But things that refuse to go away. That are much worse than a lock up.
Lets just say that, I don’t think I’m going to live to see my 33rd birthday. It makes me upset to just talk about it. But I guess it’s going to have to come out sometime.
I know what’s wrong with me. And I know how I could overcome this and undo it, but I don’t want to have to do it. Because it means giving away what I have loved doing over the years.
Pretty much, changing my entire life around.

First off, I have a really bad case of GERD, and probably some peptic ulcers in my stomach. Both from my years of drinking my favorite carbonated beverage, 7up.
That’s something that I can live with, and I’ve been doing it for awhile. But the fact it’s gone so many years untreated, now there feels like this lump in the back of my throat, above my atom’s apple. It seems to make me think I got asthma or something.

And then there’s two things I know will be the end of me if I don’t get them looked at, and soon. One is having constant heartburn, and having it on my back, making me think I got a backache. And what feels as if my left arm gets numb alittle bit, and I can feel my heart beating in my chest.

And finally, the big one. The fact I’ve eaten so many sweets over the years and hardly anything good for me, my appendix feels like it wants to be taken out.
I keep getting throbbing, sometimes stabbing pains around my right waist area. And feeling bloating pressure like it’s gas.

All of these problems could be treated if I ever get the guts to tell my parents that I have to go to the hospital.
But I keep thinking “it’s just gas… just gas…it’ll go away”. Even if I went there, the first thing they’re going to say after they take care of my issues is “You have to go on a diet”. And my parents will force me to eat healthy, and I’ll probably ending up killing myself over it because I couldn’t take the stress. :'(

I’m sorry… I just get so emotional over things like this.
But yes. I’m also obese. So I probably have Diabetes too. I seem to have one of those eating disorders, where I just crave junk food and stay away from healthy foods, saying I hate them because they’re not yummy like junk food is.
I couldn’t stand having to do away with doughnuts, and cheese pizza, and plain cheeseburgers with ketchup only.
I’m even starting to stop eating foods I used to like, such as chicken nuggets. Because of my failing teeth not being able to chew it right.

And everytime I see a health commercial, all I do is “Fuck off! Let me die already!”, and hope that when it is my time, that god will have mercy and take me in my sleep. Or if it’s in the day, a quick and painless way.
Maybe I could be reincarnated as another human and undo the mistakes I made in my past life. Because this one can’t be saved, unless I get hypnotized to think healthy food is junk food.

The only good foods I like eating are granola bars, oatmeal creme pies, applesauce, and potatoes. I love potatoes.

.
I’m sorry to all of my readers that have just read all of the above. I guess this was my fingers trying to call out for help. But I refuse to help myself by changing my eating habits.

I am trying to lose some weight, by walking around the block once every Wednesday. And I’m trying to limit my intake of junk food. But I think it might be too late for that.
I fucked myself up. And now I have to pay. I can only pray that god will find it in his tender heart to make it as painless as possible when I do pass away.

The reason why I feel like that I may not see my 33rd birthday, is the things I mentioned above are getting worse. It’s like my health is deteriorating.
And all I wanna do is my best to ignore these possible early signs of problems to come in my future, and just continue to live life the way I want by focusing on my computer and it’s problems.

Or maybe it was that Rootbeer Float I had at Sonic today. Damn they make some good floats. A shame my stomach doesn’t like them.
It feels alittle better to finally get this off my chest. Now if I do pass away, anyone that reads this blog will know why. Kinda morbid, but; life sucks and then… well you know.

And the reason why I posted this? What I’ve been seeing in Facepunch. It just seems like I’m being told a message I have to do something, when I see threads like “10 signs you need to go on a diet”, “The Health Care Plan Explained!”, “Post your BMI!”, and “Swine flu targeting fat people.”.

Mirror’s Edge lock up testing

I just completed my 2nd run of Mirror’s Edge, and it’s as wild as it was on the first run.
… However. I hate to say this but there was a problem. It’s pretty hard to explain.

Anyway, I was in that part in the subway where Merc tells you that blues are in your way and take ’em out.
I’m kickin’ ass (I have a trainer), and suddenly Monitor 2 flashes, then Monitor 1 shows these strange horizontal blocks that go down, then they disappear, and I notice the colors are fucked up alittle bit.
About.. 30 seconds later, it hits. But it hit like it happened in Gmod. I couldn’t see anything but just fucked up graphics, but it wasn’t completely locked up. Just running like 1 FPS all the sudden.
Then I got a BSOD and my computer restarts. The BSOD displayed and disappeared too fast for me to read.

Does this mean my lock up has finally made a come back? I’m not sure. You see, I think I played for something like 2-4 hours when it happened.
But yet when I went back in, I was able to complete it with no problems, and I played it again for 2-4 hours. Maybe it was just a fluke, or maybe it only happens in that game.
Maybe the video card overheated. Yet I checked Hardware Monitor and it was sitting at 47C. That’s cooler than my old 9500GT.

I don’t know if I should try another game after seeing that, even though in a way I was able to play the whole thing. Because it feels like it’s an unfortunate sign that the lock up has possibly mutated into something else now.
God damn fucking thing can’t stay dead! But if it stays like that, that will give me time to exit the game before it does do the fucked up graphics thing. In a way it’ll be a bearable issue.

Comments re-opened/more computer thoughts

After I played FarCry for that good 10 minutes, I went to Facepunch, and my favorite thread. They’ve been busy since I’ve been gone for a few days.

Anyway, I saw Garion asking me to get comments in this blog. I explained if I did it would be filled with ads by bots, but they begged and I finally decided to allow them.
So every future post (including this one) will have comments enabled. I asked wordpress.org to see if they could get me two widgets. The first would enable comments in every one of my posts, and the 2nd could deal with the bot spammers that will flock in after the first one happens.
It’s pretty much like opening the flood gates, but trying to put a grate on it big enough that it’ll filter out the spammers and let in intelligent, helpful people.

.
Anyway, with that out of the way, I’m still having a few thoughts about my latest play test with FarCry 1. I played for close to 45 minutes with no lock up.
I’m impressed, but not buying it. I’m still hearing that siren-like sound when on load.
Looks like it wasn’t my video card’s fan doing it. This means it’s probably my CPU’s heatsink fan.
Also I’m noticing in CPUID Hardware Monitor, that my CPU is taking awhile to cool down, and didn’t before.
Also, it’s running a bit hotter on idle than it did.
With my old motherboard it idles around 43-44C. But with this one, I’m seeing it idling around 44-47C. Taking the side case off, it idles at 42-44C on idle.
Maybe they didn’t apply enough thermal grease when they attached my CPU to the new board. Or maybe it’s normal for it to run a bit higher.

However it does stay within normal levels when on load. But that sound… and I only hear it when the side panel is on the case. It’s not as annoying as the lock up, but.. hmm. I’ll try to think of something for it. Maybe like use Winamp to blur out the noise, or take the side panel off and leave it off.

Or wait ’till next month and tell him (hopefully my lock up issue won’t show it’s ugly head ever again) when I have the money. I may need a new case because there’s nothing wrong with the fan. It goes at an amazing 5000+RPM on load to cool that CPU down. Plus I think it’s normal to have noise coming from your computer. You just gotta ignore it.

But everytime I hear it I’m thinking “it’s overloading or overheating. That fan’s going to go out if I don’t stop playing”. I just don’t know. If I asked Facepunch they’ll just tell me it’s normal, or give me a few links to Newegg for a replacement CPU Heatsink Fan, thinking I know how to replace it myself.

A new motherboard/video card, will it fix the lock up?

Alot happened in the past 48 hours. It’s quite hard to explain, just I had some arguments with mother over getting a new motherboard.
Basically about how hard it was to call Stewart to ask him about how much that motherboard was, what it was called.

Thinking, I made a thread on Facepunch asking where I could find a motherboard. I thought by ordering it, getting it shipped here, and then taking it up to him.
But two minutes after I had made the thread, mother asked the neighbor to take me up there. So now I made a thread I didn’t need to make.. ugh.
How in the fuck am I going to explain to them that “I already made my mind up”?

Anyway.. ok, now I can explain everything better. I got my computer up there. Found out why it was so hard to call, was because of the storm on Monday.
Alot of people where complaining about fried hardware and shit.
They told me they’ll be able to get it done tomorrow, which is today. So I waited back home.

I decided to get my old Nintendo Gamecube out of the closet, got it hooked up and played Luigi’s Mansion all night. Had to use mother’s computer to print out a walkthrough for it.
I need to make my own walkthough soon. It was somewhat tough to follow it.

The next day, after I get finished with dinner, and was cleaning up my mess, the phone rang, and it was them. They where done with it. Yay.
But, they wanted me to come up there and play on it for 20 minutes. Since I had no form of transport except my feet, I told them I would walk up there. I bet the reason is because I said “You didn’t even try to play any Steam game!” (not like that, but that’s how I felt), so they wanted to make sure the lock up is dead by me doing what I usually do on it.

So I slowly walked up there. Man what hell I went through when there was no sidewalk and had to walk in the grass with a trench in the middle, having to duck under tree limbs because of my length (I’m 6’2″ or something like that) but I finally got there in one piece.

I went in the back and sat down infront of a monitor with a shitty screen (bad colors) but he assured me it wasn’t my computer.
So I tried playing HL2OS. Played for a good 10 minutes. No lock ups. So I thought “Hmm. Lets see if FarCry does the same” and tried it.
5 minutes later.. WHAM. Dammit! It’s NOT the Northbridge overheating that’s causing it!
I told them that maybe it’s the fact I need 800MHz memory. So they tried a new 2GB RAM stick.
Tried it again, WHAM in less than a minute. Then they say “Hang on. Lets try this video card”.

They installed this huge card in my computer, taking two slots on the back of it. I’m guessing the 2nd is for exhaust? I noticed it had a vent on it.

Ran it for about … 6-7 minutes, no lock up. So they said “It’s your video card then”. I’m not so sure. I told them it’s probably just another temp fix, but they’re sure that it’s my old card causing it.

So as one of them prepares my computer for me to take it back home, they start talking about pricing, and decide to RMA my old motherboard and Video Card and pay me back what I paid for it, then charge me for the new motherboard and Video Card.
I end up paying $122.40 for something that would’ve costed me over $300, more than I had saved.
I got an ASUS M3A78-CM motherboard, and a Geforce GTS 250. According to Stewart, I should be able to play Crysis on High. Pretty sweet deal for $122.40.

I even get a ride home by Stewart, and give him the box of my motherboard and video card so they can RMA them, and he heads off, saying “enjoy your new computer”.
I guess I could call this Upgrade #2. But I don’t call it a full upgrade. The RAM and CPU haven’t been replaced.

Anyway, I plugged it in, and played FarCry for a good 15 minutes. No lock up. However I still feel unsold by it, saying “This is just a temp fix. It’s going to happen again!”. Then again I just got to Level 3.

The motherboard has a perk, and a setback. The perk is I now have four RAM slots, so I could go up to 8GB if I wanted to, but the setback is it has the same number of PCI slots as my old one, and the Geforce GTS 250 takes two slots, leaving no room for a sound card if I decide to play HL1 again.

But I got new onboard sound with this motherboard. This “VIA HD Audio”. Sounds pretty good for onboard sound.
Anyway, I’m gonna play this for awhile. If it locks up.. well, then the only thing it could be is my CPU and/or it’s heatsink fan, as it’s the only thing left that hasn’t been replaced.

So far though, it seems like my old 9500GT was the culprit all of this time, but I had no way of truly finding out if it was. This time I did, and looks like angry was right all along about my video card could be what’s causing it.
It sickens me as that’s my 2nd fucking faulty video card in a year. But may it rest in peace, to no longer cause grief so now I can play games like Crysis, Spore, and The Sims 3 with no issues.

Spore’s EP shows it’s face to me, and I wish it didn’t

I don’t know how bad I trashed Spore after I got my hands on it months ago. Even with that game I had lock ups, but just not as severe as they are now.

This idiot bumped a Spore thread in the Video Games section of Facepunch. Everyone knows about EA’s attempt to revive Spore, right? The EP called “Galactic Adventures”.
Curious when I shouldn’t be, I clicked on it and saw the shock of my life. In the Space Stage (basically what this is based around), you can now leave your ship and walk on a planet, and something about even using vehicles like moon rovers.
Finally.. something ELSE than delivering spice and having to hear “OMG HELP US WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!!” from my home planet every 10 fucking minutes or so.

It was like my brain was saying “HOLY SHIT!!! I WANT!!!”, but I told my brain about my lock up. But it continues to nag me, begging me to buy this EP.
This is what happened when I got The Sims 3. I was driven mad by temptation to buy it. And now I see I was right by not getting it. That it was a waste of money.
It pisses me off so, when I have to say NO to my wants of buying/downloading games because of a fucking lock up that will take ’till 2010 to ‘fix’ with a new computer.

More flooding rains/a script/thoughts

Well I was going to call Stewart today about that fan for my Northbridge, but something made me think twice.
I can’t really explain it. I guess it’s a feeling of unsure.
I’m unsure if this is a good idea. Spending money on something I may not need.
(more thoughts below)

Also another reason. I wanted to pretend today was going to be a nice day. That was until that same front that made a shitload of severe weather in the north, was knocking on our door. And it hit.. hard. It just turned day into night.
And it rained for about two hours. Just nonstop heavy rain. It was like dega-vu of last week.

Finally the rain moved off. Then it started right back up again, but it wasn’t bad. Our local weather claims we’ll be under a slight risk tomorrow, but according to the SPC, the slight risk will be southwest of us.
I guess I’ll have to see what tomorrow brings.

Also, I finally got a script, just in a code form. It’s a code used in AutoHotkey. All I had to do was install AHK and let it create a sample script, then copy/paste it into the sample script.
Soon I ran my game and it started quick saving every 5 seconds. Woot! Now if I can’t fix it, I can say FUCK YOU LOCK UP and keep playing after it locks up.

(more thoughts here)
Tonight, angry finally came back. Said he got my CD Case, so that’s good. After my game locked up again I talked with him and tried to think, knowing I had to do something about that Northbridge.
I started thinking about when Stewart said they’ll try a new motherboard. I kept thinking how strange it is how no one else has this motherboard on the web.
All I have seen when I searched several months ago to see if anyone else is having an issue with their Northbridge overheating, is the same motherboard I got, plus an “H” at the end. I’ve talked about this in a post somewhere in this blog.

Angry mentioned that I just try a regular house fan and blow it into my case. I’ve already tried this and my temps didn’t go down that much.
This is what told me that maybe I should get a new motherboard. I began to wonder if Stewart forgot to tell me there’s a chance my games could lock up with that board.

I began to wonder why do I have to reinstall Windows. Angry as usual claimed I don’t have to, but Stewart claimed I did. So I asked Facepunch if I had to, and the only one that replied said that you’ll be lucky if you can get the old motherboard drivers off, and get the new ones on.

Another thing I could do, if I had the patience and guts, is to find someway to remove the motherboard and DOA it. Basically, send it back to Gigabyte and tell them the Northbridge is overheating, and maybe they’ll replace it for free.
But this involves not only knowledge of removing said motherboard without fucking anything up, but patience of not having a computer until they replace it.

One other thing I might wanna invest in, is getting a faster RPM case fan. In my “Cool my Northbridge” thread, this guy posted this link to Newegg with this heatsink fan, that has 3500RPM.
My case fan goes up to 1650RPM on idle. And I had that thing replaced, thinking it was going out on me or something, because I was getting this weird siren noise.
Now I know that noise is coming from my Video Card’s fan.

1650RPM may be OK for a case fan though. I’ll ask Stewart tomorrow if I need something faster. But I could’ve sworn my old fan had a higher RPM.

More delays…

(sigh) Another night, another blog post. All fucking day I’ve been forum hopping from hardforum, to the Steam forum, to Facepunch, seeing which one would reply first.

The hours went by, got a few replies. But nothing I wanted to see. No “Ok, here’s what you need to do” replies.
Overall, it looks like as of tonight, a script is impossible to make for what I want done, and my best bet is to use a fan to cool the Northbridge down.
Since I’m incapable or have a fan to use, that would blow directly on the Northbridge, I will have to wait ’till Monday to ask Stewart again, and pray he can do it that day.

.
On top of it, angry didn’t respond once. I found out from his mom that he had went to his aunt’s, but she forgot to tell me.

Delays, Setbacks in attempt to fix/ignore it

As I said in my previous post, I called Stewart this morning, asking if he had a fan for my Northbridge.
He said that he has nothing that would work with my motherboard, and to check the internet.
I told him I checked Newegg, it gave me two results, but nothing that looks like it would work.

He said that he could hotwire a small fan over the Northbridge, and nigger-rig it by using glue to hold it on there, and it should cool it down.
Again I told him about what I read, and if I was wasting my time thinking again this would not even fix it. Even told him about that normally it’s used for overclocking.
He said that it doesn’t matter if you do or don’t. But he couldn’t even do that because they where swamped with people needing help. Even on Monday it’s iffy if he’ll have enough time to help me.

After this crushing blow, I took my shower and as usual, talked to myself, saying that I gotta stop being this lock up’s bitch! I got to say “FUCK YOU!! I’m not going to let you keep me away from my gaming!”, and not be discouraged when it locks up, and just get BACK in there and keep playing.
Either my computer will die from the stress, or it will say “FINE… you win. I’ll stop”.

I did it in WoW when I got my two chars to Level 80. I got to do it again. But then I started thinking about having to spam my Quick Save button on source games and how annoying it is, and got an idea to ask Facepunch for a script to take care of that for me.

After getting done with my shower, I tried to do that, but I didn’t know where to post it without getting banned. So I asked a mod. Hours went by and angry finally logged in.
He told me to use this ‘AutoHotKey’ program. But what he didn’t tell me is I would have to do the scripting myself, using it’s scripting language to do what I want it to do.

I asked him to do it for me, as payment of sending my case of TAB Episode CD’s to him today. He wanted to see them. But he was too busy to help.

Time passed, and finally he responded. He said to make an autosave.cfg file in the source game I wanna play and put in the command used by source to quick save a game, followed by 250 ‘wait’ commands, claiming that the wait is based of your FPS, and at the last, having ‘exec autosave’.

I ran this through the console, and it disabled my keyboard, like it suddenly lost all key bindings. And I have a good idea why.
The bind command I used in it, made it think that it would find keyboard binds in it. It didn’t and didn’t load the keyboard binds from config.cfg, disabling my keyboard.

He hasn’t said anything since then. Even as I type this I’m waiting for a response.
Anyway, finally the mod responds alittle later on and told me what section to post my thread in. I did, and waited for a few hours, and finally got a response to get this for Gmod. It will be useful for if I wanna go back to building contraptions again (which is the reason this site exists), but it won’t be helpful for HL2 mods like HL2OS.

So I made a thread on steampowered.com using the same thread data, and all I’m getting in that one is replacing my PSU with a “better” one than the one I got, instead of giving me a damn script.

.
As you can see, I got delays and setbacks of this. If I can’t fix the issue, then maybe I can try to ignore it. But I can’t even do that without this script. Very annoying.

Northbridge, again a possible culprit

Been browsing Facepunch today. Suddenly a thought comes to mind of what Stewart said about my Northbridge and it being hot. So I create a thread about it.

10 minutes after I do, I get a reply with a line in particular; “I doubt your Northbridge is that hot and your PC is still running.”
I didn’t know what to say, except respond to the 2nd line of him saying to take temps with a grain of salt. I called Stewart about the Northbridge and what the guy said. All he said was “hmm”, and I should still get a cooler on it. He claims he put his finger on my Northbridge and said it felt like 85C.
And because of what hardforum.com told me. They believe it’s the Northbridge. So surely by cooling it down, it should lock up ALOT less, right?

He also told me what games he played. Found out he wasn’t just playing WoW. And told him if he played HL2 that he would’ve found the lock up.

After I hung up, I told mother about it. She said that to call him tomorrow and ask how much one would cost and how long it will take. So I plan to.

.
I’ve also tried taking my Sound Card out. Didn’t fix it. So now I know that my Video Card has OK cooling. I thought the sound card was restricting the airflow, which it’s not.
I’m keeping it out though. I have no need for it anymore.

I just wonder if he can even get this fan or whatever on my Northbridge with my Video Card sitting inches from it. If not, then I won’t be charged for it.

Not to mention I wonder if I’m just wasting my money on another thing that will not fix the issue. The thing about how my computer shouldn’t even be working if my Northbridge is that hot, and also what I found of searching around for a fan. How it says it’s normally used for when you overclock.
I was even questioned in that thread if I was overclocking. More questions I need to ask Stewart tomorrow.
