After I played FarCry for that good 10 minutes, I went to Facepunch, and my favorite thread. They’ve been busy since I’ve been gone for a few days.
Anyway, I saw Garion asking me to get comments in this blog. I explained if I did it would be filled with ads by bots, but they begged and I finally decided to allow them.
So every future post (including this one) will have comments enabled. I asked wordpress.org to see if they could get me two widgets. The first would enable comments in every one of my posts, and the 2nd could deal with the bot spammers that will flock in after the first one happens.
It’s pretty much like opening the flood gates, but trying to put a grate on it big enough that it’ll filter out the spammers and let in intelligent, helpful people.
.
Anyway, with that out of the way, I’m still having a few thoughts about my latest play test with FarCry 1. I played for close to 45 minutes with no lock up.
I’m impressed, but not buying it. I’m still hearing that siren-like sound when on load.
Looks like it wasn’t my video card’s fan doing it. This means it’s probably my CPU’s heatsink fan.
Also I’m noticing in CPUID Hardware Monitor, that my CPU is taking awhile to cool down, and didn’t before.
Also, it’s running a bit hotter on idle than it did.
With my old motherboard it idles around 43-44C. But with this one, I’m seeing it idling around 44-47C. Taking the side case off, it idles at 42-44C on idle.
Maybe they didn’t apply enough thermal grease when they attached my CPU to the new board. Or maybe it’s normal for it to run a bit higher.
However it does stay within normal levels when on load. But that sound… and I only hear it when the side panel is on the case. It’s not as annoying as the lock up, but.. hmm. I’ll try to think of something for it. Maybe like use Winamp to blur out the noise, or take the side panel off and leave it off.
Or wait ’till next month and tell him (hopefully my lock up issue won’t show it’s ugly head ever again) when I have the money. I may need a new case because there’s nothing wrong with the fan. It goes at an amazing 5000+RPM on load to cool that CPU down. Plus I think it’s normal to have noise coming from your computer. You just gotta ignore it.
But everytime I hear it I’m thinking “it’s overloading or overheating. That fan’s going to go out if I don’t stop playing”. I just don’t know. If I asked Facepunch they’ll just tell me it’s normal, or give me a few links to Newegg for a replacement CPU Heatsink Fan, thinking I know how to replace it myself.
