Wolfenstein: The Old Blood released for PC & Consoles

This is the big gaming story today. The game is available for download for PC and Consoles (at the “Wow.. am I dreaming?” price of $19.99). It’s also available on Steam for the same price. Not sure why they didn’t go retail. Guess they see this as the new age, and most people just download the game and play it instead of buying a physical copy.
This is a standalone expansion for Wolfenstein: The New Order. Aka, you won’t need The New Order installed to play it.

But you’re probably asking yourself “Ugh.. The New Order had sex scenes! I want to see Nazi ass kicking like in RTCW!” Well, I think you’re in luck, my friend.

It seems to me, this almost feels like a prequel between Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein; going back to its Nazi ass-kicking roots. Of course, that’s what I said about The New Order. And look what that turned out to be.
By the way, I still can’t complete that game due to the bug affecting my type of GPU.

Anyway, back to this one. The video I saw(which looked like a cheesy 1950’s drive-in movie) at least shows what I said above. It has scenes from RTCW, such as the railcars. And it looks really amazing, too. This is why I feel it could possibly be a prequel. Though, only a few playthroughs from another Youtuber will answer this question.

Maybe that is why they released this game. Some people complained about ‘Screw saving the world, let’s fuck eachother instead!’ (though I do have to admit that even Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon had this…), and this is their way to redeem the game and its long-time fans of the famous First Person Shooter in history.

What’s also mentioned is “You will be playing Wolfenstein 3D in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood”. Even though there was a minigame of Wolfenstein 3D in The New Order(except with the newer guns). Yet according to IGN’s interview, they mention that “more Wolfenstein 3D will be added in The Old Blood”, and about an Easter Egg called “Nightmare”. Interesting.
It goes on to mention of nine levels of this ‘Nightmare’ mode. You can ‘awaken’ from this nightmare by either dying, or hitting an ‘End Nightmare’ mode. You can also go back into this nightmare by ‘going back to bed’.
So there’s a sleep system in this game, and you keep having nightmares over an ancient FPS. Yep. That’s me alright. Except mine involve Cities: Skylines and factory employers tearing me apart, knowing I’m the reason for ‘not enough workers!’.. mmm.. got sidetracked there.

Anyway, I bought it. $20. 34GB game. Made by the developers of The Elder Scrolls series. Feel it’s going to suck monkey balls. But, it could also be one of the best $20 investments ever. Maybe it’s only worth this price. Comparing it to the $60 asking price for The New Order, this is a steal.
Maybe Bethesda is doing things different from other devs; allowing you to pay for what you feel it’s worth. Or.. it still could be a pile of monkey balls. Most of the 34GB is probably the nine levels of this ‘Nightmare mode’. And also, hearing 9 levels.. is that the entire game? Is this why it’s only $20, because they cut out all the good stuff to save it for more expansions (aka more money)? Aka, turning into EA without us even knowing it.
Probably just making tons of assumptions that aren’t true (at least, I hope so). I’ll find out tomorrow, when the download’s complete.

Still debating over Far Cry 4

I still haven’t bought it, and I’m sure as hell not going to torrent (I really don’t want to risk viruses, especially ones that can’t be picked up my anti-virus software).

I keep hearing mixed reviews of the game. Some seem to tolerate it feeling like Far Cry 3, yet with more bells and whistles. Others just don’t feel it’s worth the money, due to how bad of a villain that Pegan is.
I? I just want to see the game drop in price. It came out .. what? November 2014. It’s now May 2015, and it’s still $60. Why? I guess I don’t know when the price drop will happen. Because it can’t stay that price forever.

Yet, look at GTA 5 (the console versions). It’s still $60, and the game came out a few years ago. Not even Skyrim stayed at $60 for that long.

I could just close my eyes and just hit the buy button and hope for the best. Yet apparently I’m having issues again with my computer. Firefox is closing randomly, and playing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, my GPU drivers randomly crash while in the middle of battle. For this, I’m hoping simply updating my drivers would fix it.

Both, make no sense. I didn’t spray into my case this time. I have no viruses. Though I had Firefox going insane last week via Twitter. I was trying to go back to one page, accidentally hit a button or two by mistake and caused Twitter to show a page that wasn’t mine as my feed.

Closing and restarting, caused Firefox to be perma-locked in Safe Mode and forced me to wipe out everything before it allowed me to normally access it again. I was not too happy about that. Though I didn’t lose my bookmarks, I lost my theme and all my plugins.
And now these things are happening for no reason. They could just be glitches. At least, I hope.

There’s also another issue. The drive that I got Steam on is getting pretty bloated. Though this is a simple fix, which is to just remove games I’m not going to play. And now the drive isn’t as full anymore.

Minecraft, and how I now officially hate MultiMC

You’re probably wondering why I haven’t been posting lately. I’ve been playing Feed The Beast (Direwolf20 pack) again with angry. It’s reached a point I decided to once again, play in Single Player and do what I’ve learned from it.

But this isn’t about what I went though. This is about something incredibly stupid I just did, and how I put the blame on MultiMC.
Basically, I’ve been unhappy with what my house looked like, and thought of using one of Keralis’ builds to spice it up. I was originally going to just build it in a Creative world and then just take pictures of it and hand-copy/paste it.
Instead I went on the MRT Server, thinking I had it there in one of my old storage things underground of one of my builds.
Upon launching MultiMC, I noticed the instance I had for FTB was still there. I had tried to launch FTB through MultiMC, but it ran out of memory before it could finish and have been using the launcher instead.

I decided to delete it, and got warned that it would be ‘lost forever’. Little did I know, those words would mean so much to me. So I went on the MRT, got to where I had thought it would be stored, and I didn’t have it there. Forgot I had it removed a very long time ago.
So I thought “I guess my only option is just to rebuild it”. Closed out MultiMC and fired up the FTB Launcher. And then I launched as normal, with the Direwolf20 pack selected.

It began downloading the mod pack. I thought it was just an update, yet I would had been informed if there was. After it finished, it took like 30 seconds until it finally began to launch.
Getting in, I hit Single Player…. and my mouth drops to the floor when I do NOT see my save game. I was all “No… NO!! NO NO NO!!” But yes. All the work for like a month… ALL FUCKING GONE!!!!!!

My world: Gone! My backups: Gone! My settings: Gone! It all got resetted, all because I fucking deleted that instance by mistake! And on top of that, MultiMC has the nerve to put the instance back in!

I don’t know what to do now. Scream bloody murder? That isn’t going to get my world back. I’m literally forced to start all over again. Like all the work I did, is now null and void. All the Ender Pearls I collected. All the machines I made. All the pipes I laid out. There. All. Gone. Like it never happened. Yet the sickening thing is.. IT DID!!

I’m going through the five stages of anger right now. It’ll be awhile until I move into Stage 5… because I’m going to be stuck between Stage 2(Anger) and 4(Depression) for a LONG time.
But at least, I don’t have to worry about how ugly the house is. :/

.
EDIT: I feel I hit Stage 5(Acceptance) quicker than I thought. Yes, it’s lost, but I can use what I learned to make a new one. Direwolf alone, he goes through what are known as Episodes. Where the pack is, is Episode 7. So he’s been doing this for several years.
I don’t see how he does it, without feeling anything of his previous episodes. Mainly because, he has backups and I don’t. Though his backups aren’t local ones.

And I also… *sighs* I also stopped being mad at MultiMC. It’s my fault, not it. I had forgotten there’s an option to show FTB instances. And that option can also be disabled to hide the instance to not me accidentally deleting it again.

EDIT2: Angry tried to help me by getting a program called ‘Recuva’, that helps to recover lost data. Unfortunately, all the .mca map data of the world is missing. There is the map data from the Nether, but that’s it.
So talk about putting salt in the wound.

Steam to give mod creators the right to charge for mods

First Youtube with their paid subscription service that’s hurting creators, now Steam will be fucking people like myself up the ass via greedy mod creators.
The proof is right here. In a tweet from Steam, just before allowing Skyrim to have a Free Weekend.

So this ‘feature’ is in right now. All it does is allows mod creators (mainly for Skyrim mods as of now) to have the option of making you have to pay for their content. And there won’t be no regulations. There’s no “If you need the money, you’re allowed”. Even if it’s a joke mod, they’ll be allowed to charge!

This… is stupid beyond many levels. Mods should remain free. Spare me the sob stories of “I had to spend all of my savings for software to produce this mod(even though it’s probably shit)! The least you can do is fund me!”
Of course, we have the option of saying “No, I don’t feel it’s worth the money.” Plus, Steam will only give 25% of the profit to the mod author, and the other 75% to the dev. Because yeah, they need more money than they get from us buying their games. DLCs aren’t good enough.
But what worries me is high rated mods (like Immersive Creatures) are going to start asking for money. Though they still have that right. Doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.

Of course, there is the Skyrim Nexus to fall back to. So there’s our out. Some say that this is going to fall flat on Steam’s face, as no one is going to be stupid enough to dish out $10 or whatever for a mod that they used to get for free.

The least, and actually the best thing Steam could had done instead of this(which I never even thought of until I read the replies of the tweet), is allow people to leave a donation for their favorite mods. This way, mod creators may get something for their hard work. It’s not forced. It doesn’t feel like a cash grab. And it would be so much better.

I’m also reading that it’s illegal to sell mods, according to Bethesda. If this is true, Steam could probably be looking into some legal issues (with a lawsuit being filed against them).

GTA Online – DNFs….DNFs everywhere. :P

I finally decided to man up and plunge into the harsh world of GTA Online. I’ve heard the stories of players being total dicks to eachother.
Before I could, I got another PS4 software update. Got that done. Thought Sony screwed me again as my sounds stopped working. Didn’t realize I accidentally tapped my speaker power off. Tapped it back on and heard sounds again.

Launching the game into Online mode, I set up my player character to something that somewhat looks like me. Then it asked me if I wanted to run the tutorials. I picked the Yes option, then got dropped into the world somewhere in the city.
I see no tutorials? I picked the Yes option. Where are my tutorials?!

I’ve been trying of what I can make out. Can still steal a car or whatever and drive it to wherever I want. But this is what I don’t know;
-How to buy an apartment.
-How to talk to other people, as trying to talk directly in the mic of the controller doesn’t seem to work.
-How to turn off hearing other players speaking (if there’s even an option).
-How to get money that doesn’t involve doing heists. You know, legit work.

EDIT: Reading the wiki helps. It answered most of my questions;
-You need money to buy an apartment. Around 80k at least to own something.
-I still can’t figure out how to talk to people. It says to use the mic. I assume the flimsy thing I got when I got the PS4 that has an ear piece and a mic.
-You can mute players.
-Ways to make money involve doing heists, working with others to do a single mission, or racing against other people (for a legit way to make money) via bike/car/plane.
-The tutorial SHOULD had kicked in! Yet from what I read, it’s good I wasn’t forced to do it. As much as it would had helped with my starting balance, it’s best I just had done what I did (to save me the stress.. you had to do a street race before you could continue).
-You can actually play by yourself when it comes to races, and get the full payout. I’m not exactly sure if this is ‘legit’, but it just gives me the option. However, after the 3rd race, the game picks a new Host. Unsure why it does that. Even when I play with others(when I’m the Host), it picks a new host on the 3rd race.

So after playing awhile after I had arrived on the street corner, I was walking around trying to find something to do. I suddenly started hearing the wailing of police sirens in the distance.
Saw two cars go by on a street near me. Ran over to an empty parking lot to see what was going on. Suddenly one of them turns around, enters the parking lot I’m in and then starts honking their horn at me.
Remembering that it’s often never a good idea to get in a car with a stranger (even in a game) I ran away like the pussy I am. Guy eventually drove away and did its own thing.
Here I thought of “getting” a ride, and tried to steal a bike that someone(an NPC) was driving(who was stopped at a light). Since I haven’t played in a long time, I forgot the button on my controller to go forward and the guy threw me off the bike and then proceeded to beat me up.
I ran away from him, not wanting my health to drop and die like a total n00b. Guy finally gave up, went back to his bike and drove off.
Another biker showed up. Stole his bike and floored it, now remembering that R2 is to go forward. Thankfully the cops didn’t chase me. Wanted to go up to Mount Chilliad and see if anything’s going on there.
Making my way there was no problem. I first went to the ski lift to see if that’s actually a thing… turns out it wasn’t, and I waited a good hour waiting for a tram to show up. So I had to slowly make my way up to the mountain. Could had just gone to the airport, stole a Helicopter and flew there. But I wanted to keep a low profile.

And then GTA Online either decides to crap on me for losing my 3rd race in a row (in last place, DNFs everywhere), or said “Wow, you really suck! You are BANNED FROM PLAYING ONLINE!! We’re not even going to give you the option when you load the game! Enjoy being stuck in Story Mode, loser! ~R”
Or maybe it was just a fluke. I dunno. But if the game literally does that for sucking at it, then I guess it’s time to uninstall and forget ever playing it.

Tower of Guns – Is NOT a Borderlands wannabe

Title: Tower of Guns
Developer(s): Terrible Posture Games
Publisher: Terrible Posture Games
Release Date: March 4th, 2014
Game Engine: Unreal Engine
Number of Players: Single
Gene: FPS with Roguelike elements

An interesting title. This game was made by two brothers, and I’ve seen this on Steam before. It was one of the ‘Recommended For You’ games.
So, what is it? It’s a FPS with roguelike elements. Basically, your only goal is to ascend a tower of guns. No reason to ascend it, nor are you told if you die that it’s game over. So yeah. Permadeath.

The controls in the game are quite strange. You got to hit your OPTIONS button to start the game, then start playing after you picked your stuff.
You get to pick from two guns from the start. One is a crappy laser pistol, and the other can throw saw blades. How you get better weapons, I dunno. I assume the longer you stay alive, you unlock more stuff. Not really explained.
There’s also a Perk system, that stays with you of that current run. You get two from the start. One that makes you immune to fall damage, and one that allows you to triple jump. How do you get more perks? Again, I don’t know.

Gameplay is fast-paced of what you should expect from a roguelike game. You’ll usually enter a small room with coins on the sides. Going past the door, you’ll enter another room. This one will have these strange robots that spawn in, walk over to you with their happy robot faces. And when they get near you, they… adore you for some odd reason.
You can either ignore them, or shoot them. They shockingly won’t attack you, but run around in a panicked state. Killing them will drop red and blue gems. Red gems, I don’t know what they do. But blue gems upgrade your gun’s power (as in XP). Getting hurt reduces some of this power.
To get out of the room (and future rooms), you have to shoot the door for it to open. Another strange mechanic. Then in the 3rd room is where the chaos begins.

There’s four known (to me) enemy types. Cannons (some can float, some are multi-cannons which are quite vicious), saw blade launchers(with blades that can bounce off walls), flying discs, and flying bombs.
If you survive the horrors of nature, you’ll eventually see a door with a skull on it(that looks just like the logo). This is the boss room. So if you didn’t think the game was difficult enough, you got a fucking boss.
If you manage to defeat this thing without dying, you can get a powerup for your gun. Granted though, if you want to KEEP it, you can’t die in the next level! The game is all about testing how good (or bad) you are in an FPS. It’s about constantly moving(in the game). Sitting still will get you killed. Any gamer will tell you that.

.
And now for my verdict;
Good:
-Infinite ammo
-Randomly generated levels
-I do like when you have to play again, the dialog is different

Bad:
-Confusing, punishing gameplay
-Permadeath without even explaining it ingame
-Even if you die before the boss dies, you don’t get the credit

Final rating… this is a “just not for me” game.
If the punishing permadeath wasn’t in the game, I would like it. It’s just too fast-paced for me. So, no thanks.

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) – Gazoontight…

Title: Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)
Developer: Upper One Games & E-Line Media
Publisher: E-Line Media
Release Date: November 18th, 2014
Game Engine: Unity
Number of Players: Single/Co-Op
Gene: 3rd person jumping/adventure platformer

I’m doing a new system with my reviews, to give the devs credit for the game. So yeah, I’m going to be doing this for now on. Anyway, on with the review.

Actually, I have seen this game before. I’ve seen it on Steam. But I don’t think Dan ever played it. Though I have for awhile, and I really like what I see. So, what is this game?

It’s a narrator-driven story of native tribes up in Alaska. You can learn about this tribe via videos, and how they live. It’s the ‘Cultural Insights’ option on the main menu. It’s quite the interesting story. You get these stories unlocked by seeking owls. Yes, owls. Apparently this tribe uses them like carrier pigeons back in the day. Except, this tribe is still going; isolated from the rest of the world, and free of government corruption and greed.

The actual game, is a story about a little girl who is a good hunter and hunted with her family. But one day, a powerful, unending blizzard began to happen that forced them to stop hunting, and they were faced with starvation.
The girl decides to leave her village to find the source of the blizzard, which is where the gameplay starts. Soon as it does, you’re being pursued by a starving polar bear. The game teaches you the basic movement controls, while you’re running away.

Eventually, you get to a point where you can’t go any further, and you feel you’re pretty much screwed. Suddenly, a snow fox shows up to save your life. It lures the bear onto some cracked ice, and the bear falls down.
With this, begins a quick friendship of the child and the fox. But you soon learn out, this fox isn’t an ordinary fox. Infact, having a fox on your side is a symbol that you’re in danger, and the fox is here to keep you out of trouble.
But the fox is also able to see spirits. Friendly ones, that can help both of you get up and over certain parts of the game, that would be impossible by normal means.

Eventually, you get a weapon called the ‘Bola’. Aiming the dang thing takes a while to master. It’s one of those old fashioned slingshots. Mainly used for hunting. But from what I’ve seen so far, its use is to get rid of thin ice.
To use it, you basically pull back on the R stick away from the target, then snap it towards the target to throw the Bola. It’s a quite interesting mechanic.

.
And so, my verdict;
Good:
-I really like the story. Very touching.
-Nice characters.
-Music is very soothing.
-When underwater, you seem to have infinite air. Either that or their lungs are really powerful.
-Infinite lives. It uses a hidden waypoint system that brings you back to it if something unfortunate happens.

Bad:
-If you don’t speak Swahili (or know their language), it’s best you use the subtitles. The narrator uses this language.

Overall, I really like it. Good game.

Two new free games from PS+

I also got my answer, if the old free games I currently have will expire if they aren’t listed as free anymore. And the answer is a wonderful “no”. I get to KEEP them, as long as I have a PS Plus account! 🙂

So, the two new games I will be playing and reviewing, are;
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna), currently $10.49 on the PS Store(15% off)
Tower of Guns, currently $15 on the PS Store

Nether of these games have been played by Dan or his father(nor do I even remember seeing them in the past). So, this’ll be interesting.
What’s lovely, is I managed to get the full power of my 30MB download speed of my cable modem as its speed. So, it’ll be a lot quicker than downloading through WiFi. At least, that’s the theory. Though I think it might be based on the PS Store’s servers and my connection.

As always, as soon as they’re done downloading, I’ll be reviewing them. Also to note, this is my first PS4 review of playing them on my secondary monitor instead of my TV.

The Lego Movie Videogame completed, thoughts

My first completed PS4 game. Of course, it was the easiest. Infinite lives. Respawn exactly where you “die”. Simple controls. It was still ‘awesome’, though.
The final boss fight was sub-par, compared to what screaming fits I had in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
This one featured Lord Business in a box, where Emmet kept the Micromanagers off, while Uni-kitty used her heat breath to destroy gold blocks that showed up. Then Emmet was offered something to throw at the cube.
The final one involving watching its legs while dealing with robots, then attacking the legs when they got stuck. Then you pulled the cube down and then punched it to death. Game over. The rest of the game played as the movie did, with Emmet talking President Business out of being the bad guy. Everything is Awesome.

So yeah. That’s done.

I can now play my PS4 games on my computer… WITH SOUND! :D

Ohh glory day! And no, I’m not using an enumerator. This is actual video AND sound from my PS4. So, my friend discovered a way for me not to have to pay for a $500+ monitor I don’t need (to just play my PS4 games on it).
Mainly, this thing. It’s an HDMI Audio Converter, that extracts the Audio and Video to a format your computer will recognize.

So even without it, I can still get video of my PS4 on my monitor. I just couldn’t hear sound. This gives me that option. I also got a 3.5mm to RCA Audio Cable to go with it. Surprisingly, that thing is the only one I could find on Amazon that was willing to not ship it on May 2nd…

When I first tried the converter, I couldn’t get it to work. I thought for sure Sony had really kicked my ass with their stupidity of not having a Line In option on the back of their PS4s. Then I thought “Wait.. it’s an Input, isn’t it? Wouldn’t I need to put it in an Input jack?”, then I saw the Line In jack and put it in.
Again, it didn’t work at first, then I saw a volume control. Put it all the way up, flipped the menus and heard sound! WOOT!! It WORKS! 😀
Tried playing Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty. Plays good, and the fact I can hear audio, I’m very happy. I don’t have to strain my eyes over to my TV to see it.

Tomorrow. Hopefully anyway, I’ll be getting another thing to attach to the back of the converter that’ll give me the ability to switch between “secondary computer monitor” and “PS4”.
