This is the big gaming story today. The game is available for download for PC and Consoles (at the “Wow.. am I dreaming?” price of $19.99). It’s also available on Steam for the same price. Not sure why they didn’t go retail. Guess they see this as the new age, and most people just download the game and play it instead of buying a physical copy.
This is a standalone expansion for Wolfenstein: The New Order. Aka, you won’t need The New Order installed to play it.
But you’re probably asking yourself “Ugh.. The New Order had sex scenes! I want to see Nazi ass kicking like in RTCW!” Well, I think you’re in luck, my friend.
It seems to me, this almost feels like a prequel between Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein; going back to its Nazi ass-kicking roots. Of course, that’s what I said about The New Order. And look what that turned out to be.
By the way, I still can’t complete that game due to the bug affecting my type of GPU.
Anyway, back to this one. The video I saw(which looked like a cheesy 1950’s drive-in movie) at least shows what I said above. It has scenes from RTCW, such as the railcars. And it looks really amazing, too. This is why I feel it could possibly be a prequel. Though, only a few playthroughs from another Youtuber will answer this question.
Maybe that is why they released this game. Some people complained about ‘Screw saving the world, let’s fuck eachother instead!’ (though I do have to admit that even Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon had this…), and this is their way to redeem the game and its long-time fans of the famous First Person Shooter in history.
What’s also mentioned is “You will be playing Wolfenstein 3D in Wolfenstein: The Old Blood”. Even though there was a minigame of Wolfenstein 3D in The New Order(except with the newer guns). Yet according to IGN’s interview, they mention that “more Wolfenstein 3D will be added in The Old Blood”, and about an Easter Egg called “Nightmare”. Interesting.
It goes on to mention of nine levels of this ‘Nightmare’ mode. You can ‘awaken’ from this nightmare by either dying, or hitting an ‘End Nightmare’ mode. You can also go back into this nightmare by ‘going back to bed’.
So there’s a sleep system in this game, and you keep having nightmares over an ancient FPS. Yep. That’s me alright. Except mine involve Cities: Skylines and factory employers tearing me apart, knowing I’m the reason for ‘not enough workers!’.. mmm.. got sidetracked there.
Anyway, I bought it. $20. 34GB game. Made by the developers of The Elder Scrolls series. Feel it’s going to suck monkey balls. But, it could also be one of the best $20 investments ever. Maybe it’s only worth this price. Comparing it to the $60 asking price for The New Order, this is a steal.
Maybe Bethesda is doing things different from other devs; allowing you to pay for what you feel it’s worth. Or.. it still could be a pile of monkey balls. Most of the 34GB is probably the nine levels of this ‘Nightmare mode’. And also, hearing 9 levels.. is that the entire game? Is this why it’s only $20, because they cut out all the good stuff to save it for more expansions (aka more money)? Aka, turning into EA without us even knowing it.
Probably just making tons of assumptions that aren’t true (at least, I hope so). I’ll find out tomorrow, when the download’s complete.
