Ahh Day 5. So much more of this server to see. And let’s get started of what happened yesterday.
I do have a semi-important note. Tomorrow, I will be going back home to Indy. The reason is because Wurm Summer is ending soon. And the reason for that is, I just don’t like the look of Wurm’s textures during the Fall ‘months’, and Winter… FUCK that, when I can barely tell the difference between the ground and a road.
So, after using WurmClock to calculate, I will be restarting the trip by either February 8th-9th gets here. So I need to explore the rest of Deliverance, rather quickly.
—
Lastly, I have decided as nice as the server is.. I’m not going to live here. For one thing, I still need to broaden my list of potential sites. And 2.. well, I guess it’s a bit of a fear of change. Even moving IRL can be depressing. You’re moving away from all of your memories, in order to have new ones. Plus..since I’m not really a people person, I’m kind of fearing people will come over and be all “welcome to the server, new blood! :D”
—
And lastly of my lastly thing(yes, it’s a real made up thing)…I don’t want to go back home. I literally WANT to stay here in Deli, away from how..boring my deed looks. That and no more options are coming in to give me ideas for my deed (but I think it’s because I’m still doing the “I don’t think I really need this” thing.. and it might be making them think that giving their opinions is pointless, when I refuse to do them).
Deliverance is still a fantastic place to visit, though (especially the ‘Oak Highway’, which I’ll explain later on).
Starting where I last logged out, I continued around the NE coast. Nothing really special, but as I was getting ready to reach the North side of the server, I saw a Knarr followed by a Rowboat also going NW (possibly heading to Indy). Reminded me of when I was sailing my Knarr home for the first time in Xanadu (except B2 was using a sailboat).
Going along the North coast (through a town called ‘Horsedog’), I had to go inland again to get around buildings and other areas the horse couldn’t get around. One of them took me across two rope bridges. You know, the ones you see in movies that have a history of snapping in half(or getting your foot caught by a plank that breaks)? Those things. Thankfully they won’t do that in this game.
Saw this interesting ramp ahead of me. What was interesting is it was lettered using Cobblestone and Slab. Took awhile to get the shape of the letters, but it simply said “HOrSEDO9“(dunno how a ‘9’ looks like a ‘G’. Maybe it’s backwards, which was throwing me off the most).
Attempting to ascend said road, gave me a lot of grief in the form of spiders, bears, wolves, and a troll. Luckily, you also saw that guard tower to the left in that pic. That helped out(mainly with the troll and hellhounds). 🙂
After they were all dead, the view was incredible. You can clearly see the NE corner of the server. There was even this big thing that wanted to get in on the action. Unfortunately, “KILL PLAYER!!” is more important to it than enjoying the scenery.
Now on the North coast, going West, I had more obstacles to deal with. But instead of them being topographical-related, these were player-placed (locked gates and buildings in the way).
One of these forced detours took me around a canal, and this haunted levitating rowboat (more like glitched in the mine entrance). Was quite trippy.
Coming back to the coast, I had to run through the grass as there were no roads. Saw 2/3rds of an unfinished stone bridge. Decided to examine it, as I was curious what it takes to build a bridge. And from what I saw, this thing needs a shitload of mortar and bricks (which is obvious). Yet I found it interesting how this structure could be built. Some bridges are ridiculously high up. How in the heck do you lay down a new foundation if you wouldn’t be able to reach it? There’s an obvious way somewhere.
Moving on, another obstacle had me go further inland due to a structure named ‘Workshop’ sitting right on the fucking road. Whoever did that deserves a /slap. So I’m following the map, and it shows there’s a road that will bypass. What it didn’t show was a wall in my face and more locked doors. Oy.. had to go around it (and dodge several mobs in the process). When I finally got around to get to the road, I saw a weird thing. Was this 3-lane road that had a low stone wall separating it in half. Managed to go around it, and had the assumption that this used to be part of a deed.
Finally made it around the building, but I saw it actually wasn’t blocking (as there was no way further West due to a canal in the way). It would still require me to go around it.
After many, many more player-placed obstacles I had to bypass (even an area with one unlocked gate…yet the other one was locked), I saw my boat, still where I parked it. But I had to go around a bay to get to it. And finally, I made it back to it. Was so happy to see something familiar after days of going around the server on horseback!
But to welcome me back, was a Aged crock that trapped me in the Insane Dragon Inn. Another familiar face showed up who was sailing back to Indy; Odynn. Asked him to assist me in dealing with this thing that will make me be close to all red before it does, and he did and went back to what he was doing.
Got in a bed there and slept while waiting for Sol to rise. Now with the coastal route completed, it’s time to finally see the interior of Deliverance on horseback. And the first place to go, is Green Dog. From there, I hoped to retrace B2’s steps of where I first logged on as him after so many years.
Halfway to Green Dog, after having a guard tower deal with two hellhounds who tried to ambush me, a fog started to develop… and kept coming in. Since I was still fairly close to the tower, I went back and swept the ground, looking for fog spiders. The fog continued to roll in, until I could see no more than 5 tiles infront of me. Shockingly, kchat never mentioned a thing about the fog (which is the reverse on Indy(as I tend to make a fool of myself by saying “Moar fog!!!”), but that’s only if I’m at home).
This nice nearly 45 minute delay finally burned off, costing me a lot of travel time. Still, I continued to Green Dog, passing by one of the canal entrances I went through on my boat. Sadly with so much time taken from me, I was forced to go rest somewhere. Originally it was going to be this hilariously-named town (for what I’m looking for) named ‘Safe Haven’. But how I felt it wasn’t that dark yet, I went further West to a place called ‘Gallifray And New-raxa”. What a deed name! It had a place to store my borrowed horse, and for me to sleep(for 10i).
There was even a merchant area, but only two merchants (of all the stalls there).
The next morning came a minute later than I had calculated. As I said before, I cannot factor in server lag or whatever’s going on. Solsets have been shorter, and Solrises have been longer (almost like the planet itself is immitating that Winter is coming).
Instead of heading south to Green Dog, I took a detour of this ‘Bitfrost tunnel’ entrance that was nearby. How it went up, I wondered if it would lead to another mountain peak. Reached the top of..something. Looked around and didn’t really see the peak nearby. Decided to turn back around and continue on. This lead me to that delightful lake I emerged into while I was sailing, called ‘Rainbow Lake’. Even got to go across the bridge. Was a lot of dead mobs here, and several archery targets as I continued up the road.
Got distracted again when I saw a sign with ‘Public Campground” on it pointing to the West. This took me to a really, really unique deed called ‘Astoria‘. It showed it was a dedicated animal plantation, having several animal pens..that looked like real animal pens! Every horse had a 2×2 pen. Was really nice. If only I had the room in my deed to do something like this.. wow.
There was even pens for Unis, chickens and rooters, bison, and sheep. No cows, though. Quite odd. Guess they..lol, ran out of room?
Their ‘Barn’ was an open air storage shed. Usually barns have hay, and an opening to reach the second floor with platforms on one side. Instead, there was all of this.
Finally getting back on track, I continued south. Another sign grabbed my attention; “Deliverance stadium and market place”.. wait, stadium? Deliverance has an ARENA?! Lol.. fuck going to Green Dog! I gotta check this out! 😀 This tourist trap lead me to a high area, surrounded by Tundra. Finally I reached the top, and saw the exterior of what I assumed to be the stadium. But the only way in was to head down just a bit to enter the arena. And the market? There were no merchants here.
Dove into a tunnel under the arena, and what I saw was rather.. disappointing; a 3×3 area with a raised ceiling, a fountain in the middle, and demon statues on all four corners. This, is an arena?? WTF?! It looks nothing like it should! There’s no big pit! No spikes! No blood!
Started running around the tunnels. Found a pretty good-sized one that ended in another location of the deed (in a building called ‘Arena – Deliverance finest !’.
After walking around the area, I soon discovered that this was their PvP Arena. Now THIS is more like it! This is a proper arena!
After having my fill, I went back down the hill. Got this shot of what almost looks like a mini version of Dragonfang Mountain. Perhaps, ‘Dragon Whelp Mountain’? Heh. Dragon baby tooth mountain?
Moving on, I once again (and THIS time didn’t get distracted anymore) headed to Green Dog. And I FINALLY made it! So many delays. 🙂
Another reason I wanted to go to Green Dog, is first to find out where in the heck I got teleported to when I examined that sign. And then, to (as I said before) retrace B2’s steps before I picked him up and took him back home. Still remember an angled road with some lovely deeds on the sides.
Continued going south past Green Dog, trying to look for both things. This had me going through several lovely wooded areas. One in particular was this ‘Oak Highway’, built in 1018(Wurm year). And..my gosh, it did not disappoint. But there was this one section where it opened up, and my jaw dropped to the floor. A single Oak tree in the middle of the road, in this thick forest with no player-made structures for miles.
This… this… there are no words. Fucking. 10/10 IGN!! “Would ride on again”. This area right here, with no mobs, no worries.. just you and nature (or at least coding taking the shape of trees).. THIS is where you go to lose your greatest anger and torment. This, is my new happy place. THIS is why I don’t want to leave Deliverance!!! D:(
But, eventually I have to. Continued to follow the Oak Highway further south. Quite amazed how long this highway is with how tiny the server is. But it goes without saying, that even the smallest of things have a big heart. And what I passed by is (in my opinion) the beating heart of Deliverance.
As I continued south, the oak trees had disappeared for the most part, having a generic 3-lane highway going through a forest. Yet the theme of having the area well-preserved– at least for awhile. Passed by a pretty cool castle-like structure (with a “moat”). Also passed into what I believe to be one of these many Mol-Rehan camps I’ve passed by in my travels. Nothing to worry about, as they’re nothing but a shadow of their former kingdom. Still, they wave their kingdom flag high.
Passing that, I stopped by this thing on the side of the road. Following it lead to an Aged fat champ troll (thankfully behind a fence). But it tried to engage me when I got close. Thinking it was going to try to bash down the walls and come running after me like a mad bull, I stayed away but continued to explore. Stopped by more locked doors of this walled-in deed (the walls were too high to look). Turned around and continued south down the road I was on. Eventually the road finally reached its end upon meeting the southern coast.
Sol is starting on its downward arc at this time, so I turned around and went back up the road to try to find a safehouse. Decided to head to a place far to the West, called ‘EAS Market’. After much traveling(and getting lost a bit), I finally reached the deed. Got welcomed by a few of the locals here.
Exploring around, I saw this humongous thing and thought “Oh wow, I want the Penthouse Suite!”. Also found the market infront of the wooden hotel. It’s not much. Their prices were sky high, though.
Took a peek into the hotel, and it felt like a real hotel (as real as one can get in Wurm anyway). Large table, lots of rugs, potted plants, and there was even a place nearby to store the horse (thankfully).
After storing the horse, I went back into the hotel and attempted to head to the top. Got a bit injured with a door infront of a spiral staircase. Not the best ideas of keeping your guests happy. But… the view from the top. Wow. Plus I could see the Solset from here.
More of the locals spoke up, saying their hi’s. I asked them if it was OK if I stay the night in their fine hotel (and where I stored the house). I was told that I’m the first guest “in a long time” to stay here; saying the place has existed for four years. Nice.
Logged out and waited for Sol to rise.
Next morning, I logged in and found myself..at a place I wasn’t supposed to be. Somehow I got ‘teleported’ back down to the bottom of the hotel, behind of a locked door. Obviously this player position relocation thing is a bug, and really needs to be fixed. I’ve seen it happen several times when I had logged back in, in my house (as I was behind my FSB in a corner, when I clearly logged out in the middle of the room).
Made my way back around the hotel and back up (to put myself back where I had logged out), then went back down, got a few more pictures and left the hotel and got the horse. Here I wanted to try once again to find out where B2 was, by going north back to Green Dog (but at an angle around a lake). This got me lost a bit in a sea of Oleander and Lavender bushes. Even passed by a small deed called ‘Flintstone’s Boss’.. wat.
Getting lost some more, I took this image of being up on a hill. Gorgeous. Finally found the road I was looking for, but it lead back to the road that lead me to this place.
When I finally made it to the lake I wanted to access, I realized I was on the wrong side of it. Wanted to take this western coastal road around it. Still, didn’t stop me from getting some lovely pics of the road. Just a head’s up, I’ll be uploading all of my useful pics to my website after coming home(and making a pic post), so you guys will be able to check them out at your leisure.
So this route lead me to a ‘Public Clay Preserve’. Looking at the clay, it looked puny to all the clay that was back home at my deed. I would absolutely LOVE to ‘donate’ all of it to this preserve! 😀
I turned around, went back down the road and finally found myself on the correct side of the lake. This lead me back to ‘The Sanctuary’, a deed embedded in the forest. I assume they’re a bunch of treehuggers; acting like the Lorax and “speaking for the trees”. Still is pretty nice, though.
Continuing to try to find where B2 was (and also feeling like I’m running out of places to explore), I backtracked to the Oak Highway and went East towards ‘Shark Lake’. Deli sure has a lot of lakes. What was different about this route, was the name of the lamps I passed by. They were all named “Lake Road – ###”(where the numbers I assumed indicate the number of tiles between any two lamps).
Arrived at a peninsula overlooking the lake, and… DAMN, Deli! You’re spoiling me with all of this eye-candy! The server just feels..so young and lively, while Indy feels..so old and dead. I guess because of all the newness.
Halfway went around the lake, then I turned the corner and saw this in the distance. It felt like it was beckoning me to come up and take a look, so I did. The top had another amazing 360* view of the server.
Now I’m convinced I’m running out of places to explore, fearing I would have to leave and head back home earlier (which is why I’m typing all of this instead of going out for Day 6). But before I had time to think(and Sol’s starting to go down again), I had a scaly enemy to deal with. And I managed to kill my first Vern crock(by focusing as hard as I could)! 😀 Took a lot longer than I would had liked, though(doubt that same fight would have been possible on level ground without me being very red). Still.. 60 Fight Skill! WOOT WOOT!
Seeing a large sand area infront of me, I did some hunting (even killing two more crocks, this time much faster). With having killed nearly every mob here (leaving the scorps alone, due to fearing they’ll eventually poison me and LT won’t heal it), I headed down the road. Had a troll after me, that a guard tower helped with.
Back on solid ground, I found my way to ‘Puzzle Plaza’. I remembered Muse mentioning this place as being close as possible to FM. Sadly, most of the merchant stalls were empty. The only being was someone in my local named ‘Ppm’.
Night started to creep in as the ground got darker and darker. At the deed I found someone else’s attempt of doing a house like mine back home (except wider, a 4×3).
Left the deed and went though a road tunnel called the ‘PPM Tunnel’. Here had a safehouse (that I would later use). I then checked out the ‘Green Tunnel’. Popping in my local as I’m running through the tunnel was ‘Dragonspine’..who was also AFK. So that makes two people with ‘dragon’ in their name being AFK.
Emerged on a road that wasn’t on the map, of roads going in all four cardinal directions. Had two (empty) merchant stalls here. With night coming, I decided to go back through the tunnel and head for that safehouse I found.
Next morning((and also now the 23rd of January), the final morning of this really long post), I left the safehouse and went up North. I planned to head up, then cut through the West, pass Green Dog, and then finally head to a place called ‘Deliverance Keep'(which is near the stadium). This lead me through the ‘Blue Tunnel'(not lighted) and the ‘Red Tunnel'(only lamp lighted was the one at the end of the tunnel).
The tunnel entrances remind me of when I was playing with Google Earth and going through I-80’s tunnels(how there was a right and a left entrance, it felt like lanes of an interstate).
After leaving the red tunnel, I found another one of these ‘Deliverance Derby’ things(passed by one earlier in the day). I thought it was the same one I had already passed by. But when I went West, it was apparent this was all new. Was also passing by bee hives named ‘Deli Collective’.
On the way there, I saw a submerged farm(obviously the crops are dead), a Vyrona Colossus sitting in an unnamed lake, and a road tunnel that connected to the boat canal to ‘Nightmare Lake’.
Finally I made it to Deliverance Keep, which had a fairly good-sized market. There were about four merchants here, offering a lot of stuff. One even selling the skull of a white dragon hatchling (for 1g). Disturbing(and expensive).
I also saw someone selling a single haul of..supreme dirt for 50c. LOL. ‘Supreme dirt’ always kills me (‘With fine details and slick design’). Oh Wurm, you silly sometimes.
Found some more healing covers (four of them) for only 10i. What a deal! However, the weight of them worried me that the game was going to bitch at me for them not being ‘meaty’ enough to work, so I asked in CA HELP if this matters. The answer was the weight didn’t matter, but what it was made out of mattered; being told ‘Supreme’ is the way to go for good HC’s (as they will work against Bad/Severe wounds). But the helper kept on yapping about this and that about them, even after I thanked them.
Went to the token and right clicked to get the cash out, and saw these new options. WOAH. What are all of these Rituals?? Decided to try the ‘Ritual of Fog'(just to see what would happen). My character started to do every known emotion directed at the token, and stopped at ‘The ritual is complete’.
I’m thinking “Oh..shit.. WHAT HAVE I DONE?! I’ve doomed the server!!” …Yet nothing happened. No fog rolled in, at least. Phew!!
From here, I studied the map looking for that angled road I found B2 standing on, and I THINK I had found it south of the Stadium. Going by the distance from Green Dog and where I picked him up, it HAD to be it!!
So I went for it, leaving the keep of the West and then having it connect to a road going west into the Stadium, then taking a SW road would lead me right to it! Sadly, road decay got me lost of where I need to go. But I finally found the roads I needed to go.
Finally I arrived, but it was nothing like I remembered. Infact with the missing roads, I was getting horribly lost. I mean, I -kind of- knew where I was, but they weren’t really aligning correctly. As I’m trying to figure out this issue, local got active with three people saying hi to me; people I remembered seeing in kchat. They asked me if I lived around here, and I had to tell them I was visiting from Indy.
We talked a bit, and I started arguing with them about Deliverance being an old server. Don’t you tell me Deli is older than Indy. Indy existed before cross-server traveling was a thing (aka 2010).
I also debated over the whole ‘Deli has the best community’ claim(how they’re no such thing as a ‘best community’), and they said I was right. One also said “people are dicks on cele” (yet adding on “when i started they were”).
Only one of them spoke to me for then on, named ‘Doctorangus’. Told him about the whole Deli Derby thing. He was surprised the sign that I examined back at Green Dog teleported me by accident, and how I was lost and no one acted like they knew I was talking about, “still teleports”; telling me it “happened a long time ago” and “everyone was like w/e”. Asked where does it go, saying I’ve been looking for it. Was told it “teleports to NE”.
Asked where abouts, and he said around F19/F20 on the ingame map (near a town named “Jon’s Estate” on the map I’ve been following). Looked closely and I could definitely see it. I’m going to go there before it’s time to go back home to Indy.
I went into their deed, following the sound of imping and found the guy. He got startled, saying “this is my secret imp area” and “not many find me here”. Told him that his imping noise lead me to him.
With Sol on its downward arc once again, I had to make my leave. Before I left, I asked him about the chance of finding a recipe on a troll being so low, asking him “is it based on your Butchering skill, or just by pure luck?” He says that it’s completely randomized, doesn’t drop by butchering (is on the corpse pre-butcher), and “just hope you are lucky like finding that rare pokemon”.
So I waved them goodbye and headed out..only to get lost again. Going by the map, I was near Green Dog, but the roads weren’t really aligning in the right place (aka this road that’s supposed to go along the lake). As I tried to find my bearings, I passed by a few signs I remembered passing by before. Always good to have reference points when out exploring.
Cross-referenced what I was seeing with the map, and.. I should NOT be lost! So I went back to the lake, and I still was not seeing this road going along the side. Yet as I continued to follow it, then the roads began to align! So I was just slightly lost.
Having failed to find where B2 was, I headed up towards where I was teleported. I decided to enter the road tunnel to Nightmare Lake that went next to to the boat canal (as it was still going in the direction I needed to go). Had some cave bugs to kill, and a Vern crock. This one was exactly I feared would happen. Was half health by the time it died. Checked my wounds and saw red all over. Another crock showed up and I was forced to run and got out of the tunnel, with now a hellhound chasing me.
Since I had a lot of open roads ahead, I felt confident I can outrun this thing. But it persisted, refusing to give up the chase. Thankfully I reached a guard tower and assisted with killing it.
After it was dead, I checked my wounds again. Now it’s orange instead of red. WHEW.. just healed a Medium. I love you, Life Transfer! 😀
Killed a few other mobs, and was able to erase all of my wounds without ever having to touch a healing cover. By now it’s night again, and with no deeds, I set up camp next to a guard tower (which I’m still at, but offline as I type all of this).
Finally, Day 5 is all typed out! Wow. So much to say. But as I said before, Day 6 will likely be the final day here in Deliverance.
