Out of one village, and into another one / My fear of dying ingame

And this time it’s on an island that’s full of hostiles (some dangerous), and it’s ugly. But you must be wondering what lead up to this.
It started yesterday with angry finally ‘getting’ his sailboat from Ace. It turns out I was wrong. The sailboat was right there at Vorgon, but Ace named the boat instead of changing the owner.

So with that done, I asked him what his call is. He says we’re leaving tomorrow. So tomorrow comes, and I tell him I’ll prepare my alt to take my rowboat. He didn’t read my blog post about why I had to get my alt in here, and why I couldn’t just drag my rowboat.

Anyway, we wait awhile. Anayy’s not coming on. It’s getting close to dinner, so I told angry that me and my alt are just going to leave Vorgon and wait by the island for him (and when Anayy comes on) to come meet us.
After dinner we do just that, and head away from Vorgon, heading for the East coast of the server since from what I saw on the map, it seemed like it was the quickest route there. 1/4 up the coast, Anayy finally logs in. I tell him that we’re moving, and where we’re moving to.

To make a long voyage short, my alt makes it first. I had to break off from following him to get to Samling and deposit the 5s he gave me. Angry says to go to the Northeast corner of the island, so my alt does and meets up with Elshar and his alt who welcome him with open arms, a meal, and village access.

I begin to wonder if we’re actually planning to STAY here. But I was more concerned of thinking I was lost trying to find Samling. Compass said I was going the right way, but I just didn’t know.
Finally I found it, deposited the money and raced back to the island (literally. I was going near 18 km/h).

About 20-30 minutes later, I finally reach the island. Elshar was AFK at this time. Eating. My alt comes down to give me the meal they give him, then logs out.

A few minutes later, angry and his alt pop up in my local. I take this time to ask him is this actually were we’re going to live. He says “yes”. .. Wth?
What happened to the homestead he talked about? What happened to just me, him, and Anayy? He claims he’s already told me that we’re going to live here until he finds a place to settle down.
What the fuck was wrong with Vorgon then?! Is he seriously sucking Elshar’s dick for getting him prem? Seriously.. Vorgon was better than this….. dump. Plus it has a shitload of hostiles. This is not good for my fear of ingame dying.

Nor was when angry went all “LOL I’M A GONNA KILL THIS WOLF!!” and tried to lure it to me. I ran like the little chicken shit I am. And all he did was laugh at me.
And then there was this time where Elshar gathered two horses, tied them to a large cart, and had all of us take a trip around this Island Hellidise. All I wanted to do was just go back home, but didn’t want to look like an idiot to them so went on for the ride.

Elshar is a damn good fighter, I’ll admit that. But it seems he on purposely looks around for hostiles. And everytime I saw one my fear kicked into overdrive, and I want to jump out and run away.

It makes me wonder why I call myself a ‘dragon’, when I don’t fight like one. I’ve never met a dragon that was scared shitless of even a Young large rat.
I have always been an explorer, and a pretty good boater (wouldn’t call myself an expert.. not yet anyway). But never a fighter. If I can’t get around the hostile, I rather just forget about going there instead of risking of getting hurt and killed by one.

Why am I so scared of dying? I get very, very attached to the character I’m playing, and tend to protect him as I can like if he was my own son. So to the people who say “It’s just a game”, go to hell.
And I panic when I see a medium, knowing it will slowly and painfully kill me. Dying makes me feel bad, and depressed. And people that can’t understand that makes it worse on me.

Getting past that, I have to say that again, I’m stuck here. Well.. sort of stuck here. Now that I have two boats (but been thinking of selling my rowboat, or ditching it somewhere) I got a house already. A houseboat (how Borderland put it anyway). All I would need is a fishing pole and start fishing via the Passenger seats, and I would have all the food I would need, and never starve again.
Plus the fact it’s a boat, I can go anywhere in the server. Never have to be in one place.

Too bad I can’t put a Forge on a boat… well. Maybe an unfinished one. But that wouldn’t help me make nails incase I find a nice place by the shore I can settle down for awhile, and continue to fish.

LOST… in the middle of the Freedom server

Overly-dramatic blog title is overly-dramatic. This has been one busy, and somewhat scary day.
It continued after I mentioned about the Bear Sharks in my previous entry. Though I didn’t have anymore encounters from the Cart Canal to Samling, I had other issues. Issues that involved getting angry pissed at me for something I didn’t really do, and getting lost.. alot.

The first lost encounter occurred when I couldn’t find the Cheesecake Fjord Canal. You have this extremely-large lake; 4x the size of Bearback Lake. You can get disoriented very easily without a map, and a compass. Unfortunately I only had the map part.

This lead up to telling (not asking) angry through Skype that I was lost, and why he wasn’t ingame. He was busy watching the official Live Stream of Minecraft. Not wanting to bother him I did my best to try to find the area on my own.

Alittle later angry responds again like he wants to help me out, and tells me to provide screenshots of reference points. I do my best, but it doesn’t seem to work. I then offer to stream what I’m seeing. He seemed to reluctantly agree. Feeling he was still busy I decided against it, but angry made me stream it anyway.

So I streamed, and angry watches it. Then he says he has a ‘superve idea’. Before I realize, he has logged into my account and took over for me.
This is NOT what I had in mind by him giving me directions. It’s defeating the purpose of ME exploring, and tried to force him out of my account.
After the second try I had control of my account again. Angry responds by saying “have fun getting lost then”. I sarcastically reply with “I will.”, and we haven’t spoken since.
I don’t know what I did to piss him off like that. But I don’t really need that kind of ‘help’ from him.

About ten minutes later I finally find the Canal. Although it wasn’t the canal I was looking for. It’s the unmarked canal south of Black Dog Estate.
After passing it I really knew where I was going after seeing the same mountain as on the map, and easily went through the Cheesecake Fjord Canal.

The other Canal went through smoothly, and then I proceeded North to Samling. As I went up I noticed a row of Merchant stalls. Decided to investigate by getting closer.
Docking my boat and getting off, it looked like a Merchant Row. Both sides of this pier covered in merchant stalls.
I looked through their wares and found some pretty cool things. Mostly 71 QL’ish tools. Even enchanted ones.

I then decided to look around this ‘Bay View’ town (on the map, this is where New Pinevale Port should be) and saw a sailboat with “For Sale” on it. I pondered the thought of owning a sailboat again (since I lost my other one), knowing I could just drag my rowboat while driving it, and asked around in Local how much they want from it.

Someone responded that they wanted 2.5s, which would include the boat, a mooring anchor, and a boat lock (with the key). What a sweet deal I thought to myself, and said “Sold” as I went up this hill to find their token and take out the money.
About ten minutes later, the owner of the boat showed up, and had me meet him at the Boat Parking Lot. Little did I know that the boat I saw, was just a ‘display model’. The real boat was inside this house. I kinda cringed when I saw the type of wood the boat was made out of; cherrywood (I kinda preferred cedar since cedar lasts the longest). Still, I handed over the money and got a key for the boat lock. And then the sailboat was mine.

I was thrilled to be able to drive another sailboat, but knew I couldn’t just leave my rowboat behind and went back for it. I did my best to position myself near the rowboat and right clicked on it. “.. Uhh.. where’s the Drag option?!” Rolf screwed me again! He removed the fucking Drag option!!!

I knew I was fucked and tried to think of my options.
1. Drive sailboat back home, then swim back and grab rowboat.
2. Get Beanie prem, get him to the Freedom server, and have him drive my rowboat.

I had to lean more on #2, since it’s too far to swim. Knowing that if I make Beanie prem, he’ll never be able to go back to GV. So I enlisted the help of Beanietwo. He helped Beanie out by giving him all the replacement noob tools he needed. And now he was going to help me out again. Only problem is he’s a total noob (skill-wise) and I was afraid he needed something to drive a rowboat, and had to ask kchat.
They helped sooth my fears by telling me that Beanietwo can do that.

Satisfied with what they told me, I got him prem, got him to the Freedom server portal (that looks like a penis if you look at it in a way) and teleported to Freedom.

As I was doing that, I was also on my other monitor trying to get DH up the bay to Samling, and finally made it. I picked up my alt and tried to get him to drive the boat, and it worked flawlessly.

After I picked up my Sailboat, I had my alt lead me south. We made it through all the canals, except for the Cave Canal. Spent what I feel to be 2-3 hours searching for it. Little did I know it was right under my nose.
It got so bad I had to ask Anayy, then Vorg for help in finding us. I did my best to follow the Spire, and didn’t understand where I was going wrong. Though I finally made it to Halcyon. Vorg is on his way to meet us as we pull into the boat parking area.

I thought about asking someone here if they sell a compass, and went up this hill while getting my alt to watch Local incase Vorg pops up.
There’s only this one guy, who’s AFK. He finally responded, saying there’s a trader next to the token. I went in and searched. No compass. He then said he could make me a compass, but on his main. So I had to wait.
Vorg, and this guy kept mentioning about this Freedom Market, east of Halcyon. They said that the Cave Canal is near it. It was around this time I finally got a compass (for free too). So the main of the guy lead me up this under construction road to it. We had to climb up the hill most the way, but made it.

What a beautiful sight it was, but I wondered what it was doing all the way up here instead of at the water level.
The main then took me down this road heading south, saying it leads to where the Cave Canal is. Also mentioned that there’s been reports of trolls and goblins. Fortunately we didn’t have to encounter them.
I was finally shown the correct way to the Cave Canal, and got a landmark. A Caravel named “Avalon”.

We passed by this massive ship about five times. But I notified my alt I found the Cave Canal and to get my rowboat over to me. This is when Vorg popped out of the canal and met me.
About 20 minutes later, he got to me, and took me back to my sailboat, and we headed through the cave tunnel together.
What a relief to be out of that mess!!

The rest was pretty much smooth sailing. Following the coast to the right took us to the Crystal Canal. Halfway from it, Vorg says that there’s two fierce bears IN the canal.
I told my alt that you’re going to have to be the bait to get them away from me. As we approached the canal, a freak fog starts to develop. Like it was a warning to stay away.
A good ten minutes later and the fog clears enough to proceed to the entrance of the canal. My alt spots the two bears.
I take a breath and send my alt in, with me following close behind. The first bear tries to pull my alt under, but managed to get away with a few bruises. One Light, and the other Very Light.

The second tries to come after me, but the bear gets confused when my alt passes over it, forcing it to have to think of which one to go after, which gave us time to clear the canal unscathed.

Continuing to follow my alt, we finally made it back to Vorgon. I’ve never have been so happy to see the village again. Alt parked my rowboat, and I parked my new sailboat. Then I logged my alt off, wanting to thank him for helping me out where no other would.

I know angry is going to freak when he sees my new sailboat tomorrow.
Also, I found out where the ‘dragons’ live (by asking kchat), and it’s just as I feared. They live in the settlement named Valley Of the Gods, near the Northwest corner of the server. To the West of it is a mountain that separates me from them.
But maybe there’s a unmarked Cave Canal somewhere in that mountain. Or a way to walk around it.

Bear Sharks — Bear Sharks Everywhere

I swear, Rolf has increased the number of hostiles in this server.
I’m currently on my way to Samling. So far it has been very… unpleasant. Multiple bear encounters on my route. Like it’s a warning to just stay back in Vorgon. Like I’m not ready to explore yet.

It first started as I was following the coastline from Vorgon. A bear shark decides to engage me and mauls me in the chest ‘hard’, yet it was a Very Light wound.
There was a second encounter, but I managed to outrun it.

The 3rd encounter was when I thought I was approaching the first Canal. It turns out to be fake. The bear traps me in this mini-canal. I turn around and notice the real canal, and decide to pull my rowboat across these Steppe tiles to the real canal, and made it.

I prayed for no more encounters, but they weren’t done yet. As I approached the turn I saw yet another bear sitting right on the canal wall, waiting for me to try moving through.
I tried calling for the guards, alas there wasn’t a guard tower anywhere around. I tried asking in kchat for help, no help there, so I tried just going for it.

I took a breath, counted to 3, and gunned it. Managed to outrun the bear and got through the canal!

Now approaching the Cave Canal, I hope I don’t run into anymore fucking Bear Sharks.

The launch of the “Little Dragonhead”

Thanks to Vorg getting all the trees, and those three keel sections, I was able to finish building all the parts before I went to bed. All I had to do now is assemble the boat.

The next day, I started to do that. Angry and Anayy are away from Vorgon, searching for mines. I told them if they find any steel, then maybe one of them can make me a Steel and Flint where I won’t have to ask them for one.
They find this road and start to explore it, then running into a bunch of hostiles up there. Yet they stay alive enough to come back as I busy adding my last ten Tenons to complete the boat.

Soon it’s ready and I prep the boat for launch by taking the cart down to the water’s edge, then went back up to get the stern and a few pieces.
Read in the Wurmpedia that when it comes to building a boat in a cart, which is what I’ve been doing, is leave a peg or something. I wondered what it meant. Yet when I attached the Stern to the boat, the boat didn’t fall out. So I don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about.

But soon, the Little Dragonhead was born. I pulled the cart back and took the boat out for a spin to make sure it was seaworthy. I also got a few pictures behind me to prove to myself “I did it!! I LEFT VORGON!!”, then turned around and parked it.
I knew now all I would need is a mooring anchor since we didn’t have any known lead veins, that’s going to be a problem.
Seeing how it was also getting dark, I took this time to imp my new boat. I got it from 10 QL to 30 QL.

Meanwhile, angry was exploring around, and then says he found a mine that has a lead vein in it. I jumped when I heard that, telling him we can make anchors with it.
I thought he was going to mine some. Instead it turned into me being lead by him to the mine and showing me the vein, and saying he will make anchors if I mine the ore. 😛

I didn’t have a pickaxe with me, and knew I would need a cart. The problem is, this lead mine is in a deep shaft that’s a part of the other mine. The only way up is to climb the steep shaft to get to the main caves.
I knew if I brought the cart down, and loaded it up with oars and tried to make it back, would be completely impossible. So I tried it another way by leaving the cart up in the main mine, then I would pickup a few ores and walk up the shaft and drop them in the cart.

When I had about 13 ores, I noticed the time (have to eat) and told angry to please take over for me. He said “k” and I left.
When I got back, there was still.. 13 ores. Angry didn’t do SHIT to ‘take over’ for me. I kinda gave him hell, but knew he was AFK so continued my mining.
Finally I got my 40 ore, then carried 2-3 ores at a time up the rock wall to the cart, while paying close attention to my Stam bar. Then went back to Vorgon with them with no problems.

I told Anayy what I did, and he offered to take over making the anchors. I accepted his offer since he’s the only one that has a steel and flint (couldn’t light the forge without it).
Angry finally came back from AFKland, dropped a bucket and started meditating to it. I raised an eyebrow and walked over to the bucket. Looked inside and saw it was some kind of cotton meditation rug.

Anyway, I gave him a few good slaps across the face for going AFK on me. But Anayy finally got an anchor made. I told him since I have 18 Ship Building skill, I should be the one to make the anchor.
He has just over 20. So I gave him the two mooring anchors I got from Vorg, and he was able to make a mooring rope easily and gave it to me.

So now all I need to do is find a steel and flint. I told angry and Anayy that I’ll just ask in kchat. Kinda wish I didn’t though.
Asked if anyone that lives by the shore selling a flint and steel (I accidentally got it in reverse). They started treating me like a noob and shit, and one even decided to pick on my name. I forgot that kchat, while sometimes helpful, can also be full of dicks.
Or I should had just rephrased my question to “Is anyone selling a steel and flint?”

But one of them helped me out by mailing one. Angry told me Vorg has a mailbox. But when I looked, I couldn’t find it. I had to hop on my new boat and go to Port Eminence. When I arrived at the port, I noticed one of the huge boats there, built by Acesfury. Asked angry is this the ‘Ace’ person he’s waiting for, and he said yes.
I remember this guy. He was in kchat back in JK-H.

Anyway, I found the mailbox. Nothing in it. Waited for what I think is a good 5 minutes, then checked again. Finally it arrived. With it paid for I wonder what I was going to do now.

Also, I found out angry doesn’t have a place to live… he’s thinking of settling down on the island that’s on the Northeast corner of the map. The one with mountains covering about 75% of the shoreline.

Anyway, I made my way back to Vorgon with no problem. And the rest is pretty much.. nothing to talk about. I’m still planning to set sail towards Samling.. just for the hell of it.
I’m not sure when I’m going to sail around the server. This time it’s a bit more.. complicated. Because the server is sort of separated by water (if you want to count the Cave Canal the diving line), with settlements lining it.

I also don’t know if I’m going to get to where the ‘dragons’ live. The only thing I know is MD doesn’t own the village. There’s always the possibility they could be living inland. There’s alot of deeds not marked on the map.

“I am fucking stuck here!”

I’m losing my mind here. How am I supposed to give this map a chance, when I can’t fucking leave Vorgon on my own?!

Angry is still waiting for this Ace character. He claims anytime now he’s going to give the boat.

I want to build my own boat. Just to leave this damn place. I think I was better off staying in the wild server.
I feel like I’m not welcome here. What I mean is every door and almost every gate is locked to me, yet wide open to angry.
Vorg, has really changed.. or has he changed? He just seems, cold. Really cold. Like he doesn’t like talking to people. And he just doesn’t seem to like me staying here, but he tollerates angry. That just makes me want to make a boat even more.

Only problem is, that mooring rope. I’m seeing people in Freedom chat able to move around in this server if they need things. I was the same way.. back in JK-H.
Here, the map is shitty. The roads are out of date on it. And there seems to be a requirement to have a boat. Only I DON’T HAVE ONE!!
I can’t even use one of their boats to find the tar/mooring rope I need to make my boat. Like they can’t trust me. Yet, angry seems able to access any boat he wants!

Only thing I can think of is to wait — all night if need be — for Anayy to come on and get him to give me access to drive his rowboat. Surly he doesn’t need angry to do it for him. Then I can use that boat to go anywhere I need to with the remaining 5s I have and buy a mooring rope, and dig for tar.
Once I get these two things, and build a low QL temp cart, that rowboat is as good as built. I wouldn’t feel this confident if it wasn’t for my 16’ish Ship Building skill.

But maybe by then this Ace person will arrive and angry will have his sailboat. This is the reason why we’re staying here, because he doesn’t want to come back down here to get the boat.
That makes sense to me. But I hate being stuck in this place with.. nothing fun to do. And my idea of fun isn’t imping for the rest of my life. At LEAST give me access to the houses. Make me feel welcomed.

.
Thankfully about an hour or two after I started typing this post, Vorg logs in. He showed me there IS tar near here, and even gave me a mooring rope! Now I’m in business! 😀

All I had to do next was build a temp cart to haul the boat to the shore before its completion, and just finished that two minutes ago. Vorg also made me a member of his village so I could have access to the forge, which is how I was able to get the small nails, and able to make my cart. It’s a higher QL than my old one but I’m hoping it will decay quickly, since I won’t need it after the boat launches.

Currently I’m starting the slow process of making the parts for my new boat. I need to make the longest-making parts first (Tenons/Pegs/Hull Planks), then work on the Stern.
And then with my slightly raised Ship building skill, I can get to work on making three keel sections.

And soon.. very soon, I’ll be able to LEAVE this village, and then go up to Samling on my own and see if I can find a Flint and Steel. Man I can’t wait for that day to come.
I just hope I can pull this off before angry gets his sailboat. I have a bad feeling that day will be tomorrow.

My second trip around GV or; I got to stop posting everything I do in here

I’m still at Vorgon. When I popped in, my computer froze. After I recovered and went back in, all of my settings resetted on me. So I had to take care of them.

Anayyatta was on. He asked if angry got his sailboat, and I told him what angry told me in Skype that he tried to go to the island southeast of here, and nearly got slaughtered by hostiles there.

He eventually popped in, but didn’t say anything. Then he left and hasn’t been back on since. From what Anayy has told me, angry doesn’t have that homestead he was telling me about.. yet. He believes angry is waiting for this sailboat first. Then he left to eat lunch.

This gives me a chance to explain what happened yesterday in Golden Valley that I didn’t feel like making a 3rd blog post…

.
.
I’ve decided to give the dog back to Borderland. Since the dog obviously doesn’t like me (always is ‘very thin’ and ‘upset’) I thought it would be the best thing. So I headed to Border’s place. He PMd me and I told him I had a ‘present’ for him. He started to get all jumpy and stuff, and asking me what the gift was. As I got closer I gave him a definitive hint; that the ‘gift’ breathes, is red, and I can lead it.

He then knew what I was trying to do and refused to take him back. But I wasn’t going to take no as an answer, and dropped off the dog, the rope, and the decaying meat I’ve been carrying around.
He said he was going to kill him, but he couldn’t since I still owned him. But it’s his problem now, and went back home. Then did some exploring around the area.
I know it feels wrong for doing that, but if I’m going to leave the Golden Valley, I can’t take care of him. Plus he wants to be groomed again, and angry was the only one I know that had a grooming brush.
Don’t worry, though. This has a happy ending. 🙂

I found this perfect flat area with a gorgeous view of the lake. If only I saw it before I would had slapped my house down.
Alittle later on I decide to continue on with my trip around the server, going the other way. Border logs out by this time as I leave the dock.
As I near Vita Mea, fog starts becoming a problem. Including these ‘fog waves’. I finally found the toggle in the settings that disables it. Pretty Weather, in the Advanced Graphics tab in the setup options.

After disabling the fog waves, I was able to see more clearly. Yes, the fog was developing. But these fog waves were making it worse by blinding me.

When I made it to Valasurin (the settlement in the Northeast corner of the map surrounded by Tundra tiles), I went alittle further inland. Without the dog I had to be concerned about hostiles. But at least it felt like I was free, and I was enjoying myself. Not the fact I didn’t have the dog, but I didn’t have to babysit Borderland.

Anyway, I went up this long hill and saw this breathtaking view of Valasurin Bay. Took a few pictures, and went down the other side and saw this lake that I could’ve sworn I’ve seen before. I took this opportunity to fill up my pottery jars with this lake water and headed back up the mountain to head back to the boat.

And just as before, Sol was setting as I approached Bottleneck Bay. Parked on the side and waited. I then had an idea about the dog again. Just give it to someone else… like Sharp. He lost his dog to a champ lion. I noticed he was online and asked him. He agreed to take him off my hands. Had to tell him what happened and decided to pull out of the bay and head back to Border’s place, in the dark, hoping it’s not too late.

I was along the south coast and he’s asking me what I dropped. I told him the rope, and the meat. He couldn’t find the rope, but did find it in the tile, and has been trying to tame him as I pulled into the dock.

He’s still having alot of trouble taming him. So I told him what Border told me. Which is to tame something else to get this dog untamed. Suggested we find something like a deer. He suggested we find another dog, and I knew were some dogs were and told him to hop onto my boat and I’ll take him to them.

I did and docked. He gave me some fish to tame him. I told him that Border said high QL meat is best with dogs.
As I tried to tame this Young dog, suddenly the thing goes hostile and starts attacking me. I run back for the boat, but I knew dogs could swim, so I held my ground, while getting treated as a chew toy.

When the dog died, I checked my wounds. Only one light, and several very lights. Thankfully I had no mediums, so I knew I wouldn’t have to seek medical attention.
Sharp noticed how potentially risky this is and told me I’ll just have to wait ’till the dog untamed itself. I agreed and told him to get back in the boat and took him back to the dock.

When we made it back at the dock and got off, we stared at eachother trying to think of what to do. I knew leaving him here would be a bad mistake. I really don’t know what I was thinking when I told Border to kill the dog.
Then an idea pops into my head and ask Sharp for the rope, and the lead the dog. I tell him that we’re going to go to his place, then he can build a pen and put the dog in it. When the dog finally gets untamed, it’ll be his. This is a more humane way for the dog.

So me, with Sharp leading the way, leave the area and head towards his place. We get there with no cave bug issues this time. I notice he has fenced in his yard. This will work, and gave him the rope back and told him to take good care of the dog.
Then left through the quick and easy way back down and headed back home.

.
.
Fast forward 24 hours and back on the Freedom server, angry finally logs back in. We’re still waiting for this guy who still owes angry a boat (he’s now named Ace). Also, he confirms he does have a homestead. Says it’s around the northwest corner of the server, but wouldn’t give cords of the place. So I guess I’ll see it when I see it.

Vorgon, our temp place / Thoughts of the server

I logged into Wurm thinking I would be showing up in the water by that mountain. Instead I showed up still in the boat, parked in grass along this narrow shoreline.
Angry was on, but wasn’t responding. So I hopped out and then pretended that I was playing some kind of Single Player adventure game of being taken to some uncharted place in the game world and having to find civilization with no weapons or anything to defend myself. And no tutorials. But there were pickups like ‘a shitty map’ and ‘a compass’.

I walked along the narrow grass shore, back and forth trying to find angry until he finally responded and had me meet him back at the boat. He then gave me the ‘Wurm Slap Handshake’ as a way to say “hi” by slapping me across the face. I wanted to ‘return the favor’ but everytime I tried the Slap command it said I was too far away.
We went up this cliffside ramp up to this village named Vorgon. He mentioned Vorg used to leave near Bennie Bay and Tir Tochar, and is a friend of him. I remember the place, but not the guy.

Angry said this is temporary until someone that he bought a sailboat from logs back in (though why we couldn’t just go to angry’s place and THEN wait for this guy), and gave me a bunch of 20’ish QL tools, then went back into this work area and worked on a grindstone.

I decided to run around the area, then got bored and went over and leaned against this wooden fence looking over this bay.. I think it’s a bay. Angry helped to pinpoint our location around 58y/31x on the map.
I actually had my eye on this appendage of the map to slap a homestead down, sometime in the future.

As I stood there I began to wonder, what was I doing here. This is no place for me. There seems to be more mountains than flat areas. Forcing you to terraform. Even that, the chance of hitting rock seems very, very high. Angry reminded me that you can terraform rock. You could back then. But the process is extremely tedious. You have to wack the corner you want lowered several times with your pickaxe just to get it down by one slope.

About a half an hour later, angry said he’s going to bed. I actually expected him to tell me to stay on and be here for the guy to PM (but how is he going to tell him to PM me instead of him, if the guy isn’t on), and go pick up the sailboat for him. But it wasn’t and he left.
I thought about just seeing if I could find any pines around, make a rowboat and look around. But there’s two flaws with that. One that I just thought of. It requires a mooring rope which I don’t have. Also, I would need a cart to haul the unfinished boat to the water and, since this is a temp place, it’s just not worth it. Now, anyway. When we finally, hopefully get to angry’s area, then I can do it.

And now I present you my thoughts of the server to close this temp blog entry until angry comes back tonight, or I decide what to do next.
From what I could see of the map, and what I really saw, the thing looks like a boater’s paradise. But I feel it has a dark secret. It just seems too.. perfect. Like it’s hiding something. But what?
Everywhere I looked it seemed like, rowboats are rare to see. It’s either Cogs or Corbitas. And there’s alot more than in JK-H due to how much more open water there is.
The road network on the map seems out of date. Almost like it’s now a requirement to build and use a boat.

“Welcome back, Dragonhead! The Freedom server has been waiting for you…”

That title is so fucking perfect right now…
Angry talked me into coming back as DH, and did. Upon arriving, I saw him in a rowboat welcoming me to the spawn point, Samling. He got off and we talked about the past.
I noticed angry still had that spyglass I bought for him. I decided to check my inventory. It was empty. I have lost everything. My tools. My deeds. My writs. My boats. My money… everything. I felt hopeless, yet angry as the good friend he is seemed he wasn’t about to keep it that way, and would get me started on the right foot.
Fortunately I still have my high Carp and Digging skills. Including my 16’ish Ship building skill. So I guess I should be happy I still got my well-earned skills.

One thing I did find odd about this place, is why me and angry were the only two here. Back in JK-H, Newtown wasn’t just for noob training, but it was also a popular meeting and trading spot. But this map has only been out for a year. Not nearly as long as JK-H lived.

Angry said we’re waiting for Anayyatta, who would come with us to go somewhere. We waited for what felt like a good 10 minutes. As we waited I decided to run over and check out Samling to see what they got and what it looked like.
From what I’ve seen it’s like “Hey, glad you made it! Now get your deed and get outa here! You’re an elite player! You don’t need to be treated like a noob!”

Finally Anayy showed up, and we all got on the rowboat and left the port. As angry steered the ship, I looked at the passing scenery, while reminiscing about the past. It feels like all the times in WoW when I was hesitant about going to a new place. But unlike WoW, I wasn’t wowed when I saw everything I could.

Sure. The map looks cool, but… it’s still not the same as what JK-H was. I have found out though that the two ‘dragons’ of Northern Haven (MetalDragon and Drago) are in this server. Where they are is a mystery to me. Nor do I know if I’ll ever have a chance to see where they live. Maybe in the future I’ll have a chance.

As for now, we’re currently heading to what I believe angry currently resides in this server. As we’re going there, fog begins to roll in. Angry mentions about when he logged into DH, he couldn’t even see the hand infront of his face due to how dense the fog was, and was getting kinda concerned it was coming from the Wild server. But thankfully that wasn’t the case and thinned out as sunset began.

We passed by these four canals, and a long water cave. Along the cave route were various signs showing how long it took to make it. What it took. And what had to be removed. I couldn’t see shit in the cave and was forced to increase my Gamma to see. Also amazingly, the bug I encountered at the entrances of the Newtown/Bay of Bears tunnel in JK-H, of being auto-disembarked, has been fixed. So that’s great! 😀

Angry started to get lost as we approached a mountain I could’ve sworn we passed by before. It was also getting very late for me. Angry wanted me to stay on and be like him.. sleep in the day and be awake at night. Fuck that. I’m not going to ruin my sleep schedule for him, and logged off while in the boat.

And that’s pretty much it.

New Dawn’s hot problem / I’m On A Boat!! / My first trip around GV (with annoyance)

First and foremost, when I got my computer booted up, angry greeted me with a surprise. He paid the prem to get Dragonhead to the Freedom server.
He didn’t have to, but I thank him for it.

Anyway, I thought about it, and thought about it, and thought about it some more. And finally decided to go on and buy that rowboat for 1.5s.

I ran up to New Dawn to see if he was on, and alas he wasn’t. So I started asking others in Freedom chat. Had this one kid named Paxman making fun of my attempts. And I couldn’t find anyone willing to part with their boat.
I then headed back to my house, hoping the PA would log in soon. Then suddenly someone starts yelling in Freedom chat that he saw lava near New Dawn. I decided to take a look and ran up there. And then I saw this lava tile. It was like two tiles from reaching Amnesty Road.
I figure at this rate it could possibly choke off East access of the road, and to my house. Some say it would also go down to the Noob Tree Farm.

Also, I finally got someone named Mre that would be interested in selling a boat. He said he had two boats; one of them has a mooring anchor, and was willing to sell it for 1s.
I told him about the PA’s offer, and he wanted me to wait. I went on asking what the QL was, and he said someone is using it so I would have to wait.
About 5 minutes later, he responds saying it also has a boat lock. I knew I couldn’t turn down this deal, but I wanted to see proof before I handed over the money.

This person lives all the way on the East coast of the server, in a settlement named Vita Mea. I stated that I didn’t see any roads, but he offered to give me directions to reach the next settlement closer to my location (and New Dawn) and would meet me there. Which is Silent Nook.
So I grabbed my dog, took off all stuff I will lose if I die by going there, and went.

The way there is the same road I accidentally went on while looking for a house a day ago, and thought I got lost, yet I was following a sign pointing to New Heaven. It’s next to the three portals that lead to the pay servers.
No sooner than I realized, I was already outside of Silent Nook. Wow is this map tiny. I met up with my contact and we made our way to Vita Mea, passing two security gates.
This isn’t the wild server. Why do you need that much security to get access between settlements?

So we got to the boat. Now I have proof it’s there. The only problem is I have is to run back to ND to get the money because it has the only fucking token available in Golden Valley. The person though showed me a way around the two gates. I tried to do my best to remember how to do it on my own.

So I bought the 10s from the Wurm Shop. I regretted making the purchase because it’s supporting that fag who killed my home server. Still, I got the 1 silver and 50 copper I needed to pay for the boat, and headed back. Unfortunately it was night AND getting foggy. So foggy that by the time I got back to Silent Nook, and attempted to follow the same path I went on before, I had to ask the person to get me there again.

Made it back, gave him the money, and got the boat. My dog however “didn’t agree with my purchase” and stopped following me when I hopped in. The person offered to put my dog in one of the pens until I got back, so I was forced to agree knowing there was no other way around it.

So I put my dog in a pen and got a key. He said don’t worry about giving it back if he isn’t on when I come back. I looked at my dog and wanted to tell him that I promise I’ll come back for him.
I hate to say this but I’m forming a bond for that dog. He’s unlike all the other dogs that gave their life to save mine.

But anyway, I went back, hopped on the boat and took off, attempting to follow the coast south towards Scorpion Stone and dock my boat there, then go back and get my dog out. And did just that, then went to eat.

After finishing, it was finally time to do the reason I stayed on this server; to sail around it and take lots of pictures. Just like I did three times in JK-H. I took my dog and headed back down to the pier, then thought of just giving him back to Borderland.
You must be wondering right now why I’m having this bond, then suddenly want to get rid of him. I’m not planning to keep him. I can’t really take care of him. He’s better off going back to Borderland.

About three minutes after I got to the pier, Borderland logs in. I ask him to take the dog back because I couldn’t lead him when I’m captaining the boat. He tells me that I can still do it. By getting on as a captain, then leading the dog. If I knew this before I wouldn’t of had to leave him in that pen.

I prepared for my journey as Borderland started annoying me, about have you seen Joe, where did you get that boat, and I feel like you wasted your money.
I wasn’t about to let him stop me from doing it. Yet.., as I started heading south around the map, I was talking to him about what I was seeing, and this really flat place.

He then asks me to come back and get him… why didn’t I just keep my big yap shut?
So now it’s me and Borderland, doing this thing. But Border didn’t know what I was doing until I told him. He wanted me to stay in the server by finding me a better place to live, but I declined it, saying I was going to leave for the Freedom server.

To spare you the drama I was feeling I won’t talk about that. So anyway, Border is checking out places he could move while I’m running around with my camera taking pictures at everything. Now I’m approaching Bottleneck Bay as Sol is setting, and forced to head into the bay, dock and wait for Sol to come back up.
When I docked and stopped, my Stamina wasn’t going back up. I wasn’t climbing or anything. I then hop out of my boat thinking that if I get out my Stam will go up. Suddenly I start getting damaged. The event log says “You are drowning!”… wtf? It got so bad I actually got a Medium from it. Border says it will heal, and sure enough it did five minutes later.

I was forced to ask Freedom chat, and they say you have to click on the land you’re parked next to and click Disembark. I did that, and my Stamina went up.
So fucking gay. I NEVER had to do this before!
On top of it, now when I do it, my feet get stuck in the ground and I’m unable to move.

So, we now arrive at Emerald Lake. As I find a spot to dock, Border disappears behind me. He says he’s somewhere in the lake area, so I’m thinking “Yes! I ditched him! Now I can do this alone!” that was until he popped up with a tamed champ dog as I’m taking a picture of the bay.
So we get back on the boat. But his dog doesn’t want to come with him. He’s now forced to walk all the way around the server back to his place.

And pretty much the rest was just more pictures and made it back to the pier and went home to type this.
Tomorrow I’m going to do it again, but going the other way around the server. After then… well… I guess I’ll think of something.

Sharp’s house / A creepy neighbor

Ok. Well I might as well post what’s going on. Now that I finally have my shack built, and everything out of my cart, I’m trying to get my Ship building skill up.
As I was told in the past, I should imp oars. Before, I didn’t have a pelt and had to run to Northern Haven to get one from MetalDragon. Now thanks to angry, and thanks to me keeping it, I have a pelt. I also have all the tools needed to imp anything wooden.

Before I did, Sharp asked me if I saw the Caravel in HoTS Lake. I was thinking “Carnival”. Like they were having some kind of carnival going down at the lake. So I followed Amnesty Road heading east towards the lake. Sharp met up with me and we walked over to the lake’s edge.

We walked on this boardwalk, and there I saw it. The 2nd Caravel I’ve seen in my Wurm life. The first was on JK-H sitting in a bay. We had to swim around this pier to get a closer look at it. I was able to take a peek inside and noticed it was made by Oracle, locked with ‘a lock of fantastic quality’… god damn GMs showing off. I envy them. 😛
It makes perfect sense now why it’s doing there (for those that don’t know, Oracle is the head GM. I’ve met him quite a few times in JK-H).
I told angry, and he says that this ‘Bardofwurms’ person probably made it (another GM maybe), and Oracle stole it.
I also saw a Knarr. One that looked just like the one the residents in Northern Haven were building when I arrived for the pelt, so they could go to the Wild server.

Before I asked Sharp if I could go see his place, I went back to the Caravel and tried to hop on. It said “I wasn’t smart enough”, and laughed. But I was smart enough to see a beautiful view from the crow’s nest. It reminded me of my voyage around JK-H, and stopped at this village where there was a Cog, and I was able to get this awesome panoramic view of the area.

After I got done taking pictures, I jumped down and then asked Sharp about seeing his place, but he then disappeared, saying he swam to the other side of the lake. So with my dog behind me, I swam to the other side. Fortunately it wasn’t as wide as Bearback Lake was back in JK-H.
We met up again on a submerged pier and walked on a few paths, and went up the hill. I then saw something I was hoping to never see again; a cave bug. Thought “fuck it. I got my dog. Let’s take it!” and told Sharp to attack it. We killed it, but my dog was in a (Wounded) state. Fortunately he had no mediums on him. Nor did we have to deal with another as we continued our way up.
Finally we made it to his… place. It looked just like the village. Only smaller. But he has a view to die for. Unfortunately I couldn’t see shit because it was night. Five minutes later I wanted to go back home, fearing another cave bug would pop up and kill my dog. Hard to believe something so small could hit so hard.

Anyway, he took me to this huge, deep shaft that goes straight down right next to his land, telling me it goes to the lake. I hesitantly stayed topside wondering if my dog would stay with me, or I would lose him forever.
I wasn’t really planning to keep the dog, but I can use him to attack hostiles.. especially champ hostiles while I run away like the chicken shit I am.
Finally I took the plunge, and made a crater when I hit the floor. Looked up and saw my dog and breathed a sigh of relief.

Then we navigated through these tunnels that reminded me of the tutorial in TES4. When I saw the exit and ran for it, with my dog following me all the way. I thanked him and said I could handle it now. He then went back up as I went back home.

And now… the rest of the story.
I tried to make said oar, and there was no option. I forgotten that I needed to make something that had to do with Ship building, to get the Ship Building sub-skill for Carpentry.
Soon I had the ‘oar’ option, and noticed it had a 19% chance. I went through four.. FOUR logs, and not one fucking oar.
I was planning to make ten oars. I couldn’t even make ONE!! Finally I did it and attempted to imp it. As I was trying to use one of the logs I stole from those guys back at our village to improve the oar and failing everytime, this guy walks up and stares right into my face.
Now we’ve met before. He’s my neighbor. What makes him ‘creepy’ to me is not the fact he barley speaks English, but the way he talks. And now I wish I never met the guy.

He started mentioning something that I should had rebuilt my house to cover the area that I’m making my ‘yard’ so I can work in PEACE. He then asks for help in also making a boat, asking me to make 50 Hull planks, 2 oars, 9 pegs, and a Stern.
He was making me think that I was being used to build him his boat. But I went on with it for awhile, asking him to bring me lots of logs. I figured it would help me get my Ship building skill up anyway, as long as he keeps the logs coming.

Why didn’t I chop my own, you ask? Well yes, the area around me does have lots of trees. But some of them are behind fenced-in areas, and others are ‘old and shriveled’. And then there’s trees like Apple and Lemon that are not good for plank-making. I need pines. LOTS, of pines. I know by experience that pine trees are the one of the best trees for plank-making.
I kept being told I have to go high up in the mountains to find pine trees. God I miss JK-H so much right now. 🙁 When pines where plentiful.. not rare.

Things started to get harder on me when he was just standing there watching me like a fucking statue for no reason. I still managed to make 12 of his 50 hull planks, and he tells me to take them to his house. Fair enough.
So I walk over to his house with 12 heavy hull planks that can’t be placed in a small cart, and tell him I’m just going to leave them here infront of his house’s door.

I then walk back and wait for him to bring me more logs. Then he says “nevermind”, saying I’m yelling at him about getting the logs I needed. I never yelled at him. But if he wants my help, then he has to get the logs.
As they always say in WoW; “bring your mats”. Most of them want people to have their materials, and all they have to do is make the item. I’m the same way.

Then he says after he sees the hull planks, that they will be stolen. I told him to just put them in his house, and he says they will be stolen again. Wow.. I was about ready to just leave, or move out, or do.. something.
I told him that’s only 1/4 of the work he wants me to do. He comes up the hill, looking at me and asks “why”… so I had to tell him “This is what you told me to bring to you”.

Again, more staring and less chopping. Then he goes past me and starts planning a house next to mine, but removes it after I ask why is he doing that.
More staring, and I just… I just log off, telling myself tomorrow that I’m just going to ask around for anyone that would take me in for a week or two until I can get my god damn fucking Ship building skill up.

You know, I could just say “fuck it” and just get on Dragonhead and go to the Freedom server, then build a rowboat and sail around the server WITHOUT being stared at!
Nor will I have to have a small 1×1 temp shack just to keep my cart safe.
But, I’m making a promise to myself, right now. That I’m going… to build a boat, and I’m going… to go around the Golden Valley in it. Then, and only then after I am satisfied, will I go join angry in the Freedom server.

I still have one other option. One of the PAs says he will sell me a rowboat (with the anchor and a boat lock) for 1.5s.
This would be a steal.. on the live server. But not for something I would just use a few times to go around the server. Why pay that when you can’t even use it to go to the Freedom server?
It’s not like I’m going to be using it as a merchant boat.
