Remember how I said yesterday brought change? There was another reason I wanted that horse. It wasn’t for future Indy Romps, but for running away from trolls.
I also made a post on the forum, how do I go about welding a 2H weapon (to give dragons the freedom to die). Well, now is not the time. Now is the time to hone in on my fight skill and finally be the respectable dragon warrior I need to be. I’m done running like a pussy. I’m done hiding like a coward.
Now is the time to take the fight to them; the wolves, the spiders, and the bears I was forced to run from in the past. Note that I didn’t add ‘trolls’ to that list. At least, not yet. Those hard-hitting club-welding bastards are still out of my league.
The responses of that forum post told me that I need to get ‘Life Transfer’ on my longsword, as it will actually heal my wounds a bit upon hit of the target(that is, if I can I hit my target). Tried to respond to the post, and then edit my response to add more info. But the forum (or my client) was acting up and causing a double..triple..and QUADruple post to happen. FUCK me. Everytime I tried to say “please remove this” with an edit, it just kept getting worse and worse to the point I gave up trying, and pray this doesn’t get ugly for me (and the mods realize it was a complete accident and not spamming).
EDIT: It’s not just me, it’s a forum-wide issue happening to a lot of posters. They are well aware of the problem and are waiting back from the website hoster.
So I ‘WTB Priest’ in Trade chat. Waited about 30 minutes. Then one of the CA’s messages me in it suggesting I speak to a guy named ‘Odynn’ to get a good cast. Thankfully the guy’s still on after PMing him, and he confirms that he can do LT(Life Transfer). However, we must discuss price. 70 cast is 1s, 80 cast is 2s, and 90 cast is 3s. But there was also a problem, as ‘Frostband'(FB), one of the enchants I got on the sword I got from FM, isn’t compatible with LT; you can only have one damage enchantment at anytime.
It ended up of him making a brand new longsword at 85QL with all the enchantments I had before(except LT instead of FB) for 2.5s. This includes ‘Animal’s Demise’, ‘Nimbleness'(91), and ‘Circle of Cunning'(81)). Also has a 71 cast of LT.
So I have the new longsword. Left the deed and started doing some real hunting to test it out(in the Northeast hills from me). And honestly…I don’t really see much of a difference in the frequency of “You miss with the longsword” (with 91 Nimbleness). Though I believe it’s because the ‘Swords’ subskill is so low.
But with LT, I am able to heal myself now. Still can’t kill trolls. It’s like I’m not even wearing armor and I get an instant Medium from these fucks (and I’m wearing Plate). How LT works, is it’ll heal a random wound (depending on the severity, it may not be a complete heal or even touch it).
There’s been one instance where I had a Medium change back into a Light, yet it seems when not in combat (aka running from a troll and calling the guards to save my ass), it doesn’t add the Medium to its random ‘queue’ and completely ignores it. That’s not good at all.
So as I said, trolls are still an issue. Infact I’ve been told even the high-skilled fighters take trolls to guard towers. Do I feel like I didn’t get my coins worth? Not from that guy, but I feel yes from Wurm itself. And also instead of CA HELP telling me what’s going on, they say of how I can read about fighting.
I did read, despite the anger I felt for the entire fight system. But as the more I read about Focus and the ‘Combat Rating’ system, the more furious I became. So. many. fucking. FACTORS go in to the hit/miss chance!! Distance of the mob / If your footing is good / If you’re Focused… WHAT THE FUCK, WURM?!?! I’ve been so used to tab-based combat in WoW, Guild Wars 2, and TES:O that it’s not funny.
Though in those games, you can’t just stand there and wait ’till the mob dies; you got to use actual fighting stances and dodge the enemy’s attack by moving out of the way (aka why I rarely play a Melee class).
Yet I swear, Wurm, you use too many sub-skills. You got “Fighting”(Main skill), you got “Longsword”(Subskill)… and then you got “Swords”(Subskill of ‘Longsword’ that’s a Subskill of ‘Fighting’). WTF?!? WHY do you need that much fucking complexity?!
(Isn’t going back to normal, good? This is what you guys wanted, right? …RIGHT??)
So I put in a generous amount of rage into Global Kchat. And instead of them laughing at me, they actually helped explain why the fight system is the way it is. Plus, one told me that Manual fighting is the same as Autofight (except you have more control over what gets attacked and what gets protected). Manual mode fighting is also for PvP.. infact it’s mainly for PvP (but it’s a lot more micro-management than fighting a mob). But with Autofight, there’s no way to focus, and you miss a lot more (as you’re also not factoring in the other crap).
Yes, it’s stupid and tedious. But it’s something I’m going to have to deal with. Once I eventually get a feel of position and where to go to battle the mob (or mobs if there’s multiple attackers..pray one of them isn’t a Troll or another tough enemy like a Hellhound), then it’ll become easy to grasp.
In the morning, I’m going to try to get this plate set imped to at least 70, as I asked if it’s worth getting it imped and they said yes (as it’ll add more protection). However, this’ll be a “make or break” thing for me of either sticking with Wurm or say ‘fuck it’ and go back to Minecraft (but occasionally come on and add more upkeep to the deed).
The “make or break”, isn’t “is this going to be worth it?”, it’s “Will I be charged 1-2s per gear piece?” If so, FUCK that!! If not, then yay! I believe Plate armor is made out of Silver (but can also be made out of Seryll, Glimmersteel, and Adamantine). And if that’s the case, someone said Silver ore (even at 98QL) is pretty cheap. Soooooo, hopefully that means the imping will be as well.
