It’s review time! Been playing the game for about a week. Let’s say I don’t see how this game is so addicting. Yet I stayed up ’till 6:15 in the morning being frustrated at myself trying to get my new Industrial sector the jobs it required.
“GAH!! I got to fix these ramps! I’ll fix it before I go to bed…”
Ok, so it is addicting. Sort of. I dunno. Anyway, on with the review!
Disclaimer: I’m basing this from Sim City 3000, as I never played Sim City 5(and glad I never bought it too).
Good! (things that keep me playing);
-No annoying nagging city planners, and “windfall opportunities”.
-Mod and Steam Workshop friendly.
-Mods are fucking awesome. I got several, like to turn off traffic lights, even go into First Person and go on rail lines as a train.
-Ability to expand your city through 29 tiles, instead of being stuck with one small tile.
-The game wasn’t published (or even touched) by EA.
-No neighborhood cities = One less annoyance.
-Chirper can be ‘murdered'(disabled) with a mod.
-It’s quite easy to get skyscrapers. A bit too easy if you ask me.
-Farms are a sub-industry, instead of based if you have a really low land value. And they won’t turn into factories when the value goes up.
-Ore and Oil deposits won’t dry out if you get a mod that stops them from doing so.
-You can make your own custom interchanges.
Bad(bothersome, but can either be ignored or bypassed through mods);
-The game devs seem to be “Eh, the modders will give the people what features they want. Less work on our part!” instead of incorporating most of these excellent mods into their game.
-The game’s official forum is currently(at the time of this writing) being moved to another forum, keeping me from making an account and asking questions. I’m forced to do it through the Steam Community.
-Limited options for Medium roads. No option to not have a median, or have a one way four lane road(with or without trees).
-No option to turn off Chirper, or even filter what it chirps to me (except through a few mods).
-The game actually has limits on the number of player-placed entities (roads/train lines/trees, etc) that can be placed… plus, no tree brush (without a mod). The limits can be bypassed with mods.
-Achievements disabled when mods are active. So I cheat, and achievements are supposed to be earned… be happy I’m actually playing your game. There’s a mod that bypasses this.
Intolerable(things that can’t be bypassed with mods, or really annoy me)…. >:(
-Whiny ass Commercial and Industry: “Not enough workers!”, “Not enough customers!”, and it’s never fucking enough with how much Residential I zone…
-The “tutorial” isn’t helpful in the slightest. Hell, there isn’t even a tutorial. It’s just an ‘adviser’ telling you to build roads if you want a city. Wow. Totally couldn’t figure that out!
-Road building can get quite irritating when I see “Space is already occupied!” when trying to do ramps and overpasses.
Neutral(things that can simply be shrugged off and don’t affect my gameplay);
-Best way to fix traffic? Roundabouts. Not in the US, boy (at least, not where I live). 😛
-No option for US-style signage and Interstate line style. The game is based in Europe, which is fine. But I prefer to have US-style maps.
-It’s like all city builders. They’re a pain in the ass to master.
-No day/night cycle.
As you can see, you really have to be part of a dedicated few that knows how to build cities, or at least, have the will to want to learn. Oh, and do remember, I was told the game is “too easy”.
Sure. “Too easy” for the pros.
