Spelunky was on sale for nearly $4 today, decided to get it due to the high praise of Dan. Unfortunately the game has quite a bit of issues in the settings department, similar to TS2014, but not as bad. These issues unfortunately weren’t brought to my attention.
1. Using a mouse is pointless. There’s no need for one. You can’t even assign keys for one. For example I can’t bind my left mouse button to the whip. It has to be a key.
2. The keymap is designed for right handed people (people that use WSAD to move instead of arrow keys). This makes it very hard for me to play it.
3. Isn’t dual monitor friendly. Again, like TS2014, lacking in resolutions in Windowed mode.
So Spelunky is a 3rd person speedrun permadeath challenge game. You get four lives. You die, it’s game over and you get sent back to Level 1, nomatter how far you progressed. It’s designed to make you rage and feel depressed about yourself. But not everyone is bothered by this.
Spelunky isn’t for everyone, and I was hesitant on getting it, but knew I would kick myself in the ass for not.
Argo, I’m neutral on my vote. It’s good (better than TS2014), but it’s designed for people that love being challenged once and awhile, and don’t mind starting all over again.
Monsters can strip you of a life. Spikes can instakill you (even if you walk through them), and on top of that, the game throws a slow-moving spiritual curve ball at you for not completing the level quick enough that will instakill you and follow you until you escape the level.
That’s all I have to say. I don’t dread getting this game.
