Keen Software House was kind enough to post a new video, showing off how to actually play Space Engineers, once you buy it. It teaches you the basic commands, such as how to move your guy (the engineer) and how to build stuff in space.
The controls are customizable, so that’s great.
From what I can tell, ship and station building is like building in Little Big Planet (I so want that game because it looks fun as hell), but the Inventory, I was like “Oh my god, it’s LIKE MINECRAFT!!” I mean, it looked like a spot on copy of the Creative Inventory of Minecraft, just somewhat modified.
Each build area has its own set inventory of parts that you can work with, but you always start with the Armor Block, as that’s your main building material for ships. But you can also paint them.
What I do like, is its build part is a hell of a lot easier than KSP. You’ll have free control over what you build. Just be careful you don’t bump into it while building. Do remember, you are in Outer Space. And there’s no pause button like in Little Big Planet.
The video shows that you can easily whip up a simple ship in under a minute. Cockpit for controlling the ship. Thrusters for maneuvering. Engine to power everything. Gyroscope to control your ship in space. And the actual ship body… all you need, and you got yourself a ship. You can even fucking walk inside your ship as it’s moving… that, is why I want this game. You can’t really do that in Kerbal Space Program, or even G-Mod’s SpaceBuild. Can you imagine how much rollplaying you could do?
You’ll need a Gravity Generator installed on your ship to allow you to walk inside of it, by the way.
And for reactors, it’s not as hard as I thought. It’s similar to Kerbal Space Program. Pop a few engines on, and you got power running all through the ship. Of course, this is an early Alpha build, and I’m sure the realism will increase overtime.
It also shows how to make stations, but doesn’t go into a lot of detail. Though I imagine it should be easy enough to make a cargo bay for small ships, and docking areas for large ones. Just be careful not to crash into them.
It doesn’t list if Solar Flares are in the game, but I imagine later in its development, it’ll be in its Survival mode as a form of a challenge.
