JK-H and MR-H closing in two weeks

If you play or have played Wurm, then you would’ve gotten an email in your inbox today, telling you that you have two weeks to get your chars off of the old servers or they will be either wiped or moved to Wild.

On top of that, as I have said before, you gotta do like WoW and “pay a monthly fee” to keep your char active. When/If this thing gets dropped, I will come back. I’m not paying for a shitty graphic game where all you do is work your ass off, kill monsters, and brag about your armor on Kchat.
In a way that’s kinda like WoW, but you can do a hell of alot more than that. Plus, the fee is a fixed price of only $14.95. In Wurm, this can range for as low as $12, and a month later, be close to $30. The fucking weak dollar changes this, and I can’t afford to pay for a random price.
Not now anyway. I have more important things to spend my money on.

I haven’t played Wurm as long as angry has to move there. He deserves it more than I do.
All I did when I played was complain about why do we have shacks for houses, unsittable chairs, how come Bearback Lake isn’t connected to the ocean, and… it just isn’t worth it. I don’t feel like having to search for a new place to live, on my own.

Only way I will come back is if they made Wurm more like WoW. Have a map where it will be updated constantly with locations of Homesteads and Villages. Better, realistic graphics. And all sorts of good shit.
But that won’t happen. Wurm is a crappy game, but with good gameplay… that is if you love to work.

Even if I wanted to come back, I can’t with this fucking lock up issue.

Fire Festival, and aggressive Alliance

Finally got the will to come back to WoW. No, my lock up issue still isn’t fixed. It can still happen when I least expect it.

Though it’s funny how I came back the day the Fire Festival kicks off once again. Now’s my chance to hop on Benie and FINALLY get those quests done from last year! Not so fast though…
According to the login page, there’s something about chars like Benie that have the quests from last year, aren’t able to do them this year. They are desperately trying to resolve this issue. So I hope they do.

Since angry showed me the beauty that is Procaster, a streaming program that works with the late mogulus.com, now called livestream.com. I decided to do live feeds of WoW just for the hell of it. Tried to get angry to watch. He did for.. about 10 seconds, before going AFK again. Damn him. 😛

Anyway, after that, I went back to questing and restarting the reason I made a Tauren Hunter – to have my first Level 80 Horde char. But it seemed like everywhere I went, I had flagged Alliance chars in my face, especially around the fires where you do the quests.

I was just in Thousand Needles, heading to the edge of Shimmering Flats to turn in a quest that QuestHelper was ignoring because I was “too low” to do it. I finally get to the quest giver, turn in the quest, and start to read what he says.
Just then he gets attacked by a bastard Night Elf Druid, and killed… fucker!! What was ironic is the guy that killed the quest NPC was from the guild Dragon Army.
As I waited for the NPC to respawn, I began to think “Why is the Alliance so aggressive tonight?”. Usually they don’t do this kind of shit. My ‘Dragons in WoW fanatic’ brain started to click, thinking “it’s the fire… the fire festival is causing the Black Dragonflight to take over the Alliance and kill all Horde”, or “Is Alexstrasza punishing me for making a Horde char?!”.

But I believe it just has to do with the Fire Festival in general. The Alliance is looking all over the place trying to complete their quests. And when they don’t find them, they get pissed and try to piss us off.
But I also forgot that there’s an achievement where you can desecrate an enemy festival fire.

New “Freedom” server online

Angry told me of this “Freedom” server that came active today. It’s the non-PvP server that Rolf promised…not that I’m going to believe his ‘promises’ anymore.

He’s been helping Doc, one of the new(but remaining) members of the late Bennie Bay, to the new server. He says he’s going to found a village, build it, and then let Doc have it.
Though I find that cool of him, I also find it stupid. Why build a village when you’re just going to give it to someone else?
Though that question was answered when I asked another, important question; “Is this new server prem only”, and the answer is Yes.

Well… I’m definitely not coming back to Wurm now. Unless I get bored with WoW…which I pretty much am, but for good reason. My lock up issue.
Hopefully this will be taken care of, by July 1st of this year.

I may….may come back. Depending if Rolf doesn’t fuck up this time, and keeps his damn promise.
But one thing’s for sure. If you wanna play, you gotta pay.
As for coming back as my old char, that’s impossible. According to angry, non-prems that had prem will be moved to the Wild server, and non-prems that never had prem will be wiped. If I do come back as DH… months in the future, I bet it’ll be quite an adventure navigating through the Wild server, trying to get to the new server, having to ask JK Chat constantly if I’m going in the right direction.

But what I will miss most is JK-H. I will miss the times I had..more bad than good times though. I will miss Bearback Lake, and NewTown.

And I guess I’ll even miss Bennie Bay. But I have to put all of that behind me, and look into the future… but if I never get this issue fixed, there will never be a future, in Wurm anyway.

Updates Completed

Well as you can see (or cannot see), all three blogs have been updated.
Angry finally came on. And after sometime of working on it, he finally got it set and everything.

My fears have resided as I see the theme still stays. However, I hate the new Admin Control Panel.
Everything’s so… compact. And as I edit this, I’m staring at a small posting box.
Apparently v2.7.1 isn’t 800×600 friendly. But I guess this is something I’m going to have to learn to deal with.

The end of 2009 will mark a memorial

And that memorial was the birth of thebeaverdam.com. Ten years of TAB… or would’ve been. I spent half the day today, looking over the pages, using this Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Why I’m posting about it now instead of then?, well…
I didn’t really give it much thought of looking back in the past, until I saw the Indy 500 race yesterday(Helio Castroneves won that race), which reminded me of the time I created dragoncontraptions.com, and makes me question why this site is still up, when angry’s the only one that’s messing with it.
I wonder when will I be able to work on my site again(beniesbuilds.com). And that when I started to remember about my late website. Not only that, angry knows very little about HTML.

Anyway, according to this Wayback site, thebeaverdam.com was never the site I remembered, or even started back then on December 31st, 1999. Maybe their spider bot never took a picture of my site back then. But then, why was bjsworld.net created? Why is this tripod site I made back in 2000, a TAB-only site? Why did I move thebeaverdam.com to bjsworld.net? It’s a bunch of unanswered questions from my dark past.

What’s even more shocking, and confusing… I just did a whois on thebeaverdam.com, and it shows it’s creation date, on November 8th, 2002…not 1999. And it’s finally starting to hit me. “thebeaverdam.com” used to be one of those free domain sites with ads back in 1999. In November 2002, is when it became a pay for domain name.
There’s no whois data for bjsworld.net, like it never existed… however the Wayback Machine still holds data from the late site, back in 2001.
There is still a bjsworld.com active on the web. It’s not mine though.

My best guess through all of this mess, is I started with the free domain name, thebeaverdam.com. Then I decided to switch it to a multi-content site and move it to bjsworld.net, another free domain name, then I created my tripod site, the TAB-ONLY site. Years pass and I move everything back to the new pay for domain on 2002, as thebeaverdam.com.
The moving could’ve been caused by switching hosters, or that… ‘switcharoo virus’.

I wish I remembered another memorial. TAB’s 10th birthday was April 21st, 2007. But I was more interested in closing the site down due to lack of interest. Back on April 21st, 1997, TAB aired for the first time on Nickelodeon. But thebeaverdam.com was born two years after that.

Going over the news archives I have when TBD had Hamtaro on it, from 2003 to 2004, it was called “Just Another Hamtaro Site” back then, before that show got the axe just like TAB did. I thought Cartoon Network could be trusted, since they didn’t seem to have the taint that Dickelodean has.
It too one day, suffered the same fate as TAB. One day it was there, next… poof. It was gone.
I was such an idiot back then. I wish I knew what caused me to be obsessed with a….. a baby show. This show caused me to close the very thing that inspired me to make a website.
What’s more stupid was my lack of professionalism when I was doing the site. But I was younger, and I was so obsessed with TAB back then that I couldn’t help myself. I wanted to tell the world I loved TAB.

And if anyone needs a nostalgia fix, I found the old “Fish Head” song! It only exists in the archive. You can also hear the original Fishydance song by clicking the link on the bottom of the Fish Dance 2 page.
“Fish Head, fish head. Rolly-polly fish head! Fish head, fish head. Eat them up.. yum!”
Now if only I could find the original Hamster Dance. 🙂

Wurm is dieing…, talk of a new server

From what I’ve heard, from Matty, USAF_PARARESCUE, and angry, Wurm is pretty much on it’s death bed. Raiders are terrifing players, causing them to run and hide, or build high forts with moats.

This shit is pathetic to say the least. I would expect it to be on the Wild server… but never on the server that my HS’ where on.
People are leaving because of this shit Rolf caused. However, Usaf claims that there’s been talks of a new PvE server.

Seriously… we don’t need a new server. What we need is a new CEO of Wurm Online. The old one apparently does not care for the game he has created, and what joy it brought, especially to angry who’s taking it the hardest.

Speaking of angry, he feels slightly optimistic that there could be a new server. So much he’s already purchased a size 5 Village deed for it.
As for me, when or if this new server comes, I may come back. However, the threat for lock ups has been resurrected since the 3.1.2 patch for WoW, but it’s not the patch’s fault. I’ll post more about this in my Personal Blog.

Rolf not only owes us a new server, but a mass apology. An apology that won’t be accepted by mere words – only by action.
The kind of apology that will help us with this new server. Like 50QL Forges for all players. Or a device that makes wood scraps disappear.

But, that’ll never happen. Just like this new server. There’s still no explanation WHY he did this. According to Matty, someone pissed him off. Angry denies this. I say he may’ve just snapped one day and now he doesn’t give a shit about the future of his game anymore.

In my opinion. If Rolf had a caring bone in his body, he would either remove what he implemented(PvP in the Home server), or better yet, reset the entire server and begin anew. Of course this would make even more people leave. But at least the server will be at peace again, and it’ll be a brand new world to explore, and settle down with another HS.
Why make a new server, when he could just nuke the one he has and restart with that?

Or even better… improve on this. Instead of being able to loot from an enemy village, you could only camp there, just like in WoW. That way neither side wins. And if you die, you will not have your shit stolen from your corpse.

Ever since this shit hit the fan, I haven’t checked their forum for any updates.

Another game, and a review of it

Last night as I was playing Zeno Clash, I started to think about Mirror’s Edge for some strange reason.
Anyway, after finding out something, I decided to buy it. And I just beat it today.

Now here’s my review of what I saw. Warning, this contains spoilers. So if you haven’t played it yet, don’t read.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

You have been warned…
Mirror’s Edge is about these women that have been highly trained to jump from rooftop to rooftop, in a busy, thriving city. You play as Faith, one of the women known as ‘Runners’.
The side story starts about this big city inside of a bay. Everyone is happy. Until one day the Mayor decided to crack down on impure people(what I believe anyway). Some people retaliated to this, and where brutally beaten down.
This city I believe is based from Tokyo, about 2015 or so(the year was never mentioned, but there’s an elevator voice in the last chapter that tells you this huge building was completed in 2012), since there’s English and Chinese handwriting on billboards, doors, and stuff like that. Which would also make sense, seeing that the game is part amine, part FPS.
The cut scenes, are cartoon’ish. Looks something straight out from that amine thing they have on Cartoon Network. Forgot what it was called.

For the gameplay, I must say the physics engine is amazing as you attempt to defy the law of gravity. The fancy moves you can do as you jump your way higher and higher gets kinda confusing, especially a move that requires you to hit your spacebar, then a letter, then your spacebar again.. very quickly.
The game has weapons, that have non-reloadable clips. It has a pistol, submachine guns, shotguns, a sniper rifle, and an M249 Machinegun. Some weapons can be used in one hand, giving you the advantage of preforming acrobatic stunts while kicking ass. However the gameplay is against actually killing anyone, and more of running away from enemies.
You only get weapons from defeating an enemy that has a droppable weapon.
There’s another thing. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I guess “Dude, it’s a game. Go with it!” is the only reason. You can break glass, with your fists or foot… and not have to see the hospital because you got glass stuck in your skin. Apparently you have cut-proof skin, yet you can barley handle gunfire.

The graphics. Well…I have to say it didn’t live up to the hype. Though the gameplay was nice, the graphics lack. Basically, they all look like you’re playing an ALPHA version of the game. The colors look basic and bland. If you ever played Garry’s Mod and tried one of those “Devworld” maps, that’s pretty much what it looks like for the most part, except without the Hammer textures.
There’s only like several colors, but mostly Orange, White, and Grey. And they seem to recycle these colors throughout the game.

The AI. Amazing, but annoying. Especially in Chapter 6, when you have fucking ninjas for cops, with short-range tazer guns. Cops are referred to as “Blues”, and the helicopters are referred to as “Birds”. Regular cops will attempt to flank you, and know their environment well.
They seem to also have this, shove away attack if you get too close, making it hard to use Melee attacks.

Lets see. What hasn’t been covered yet? .. Ohh yeah. The plot.
So, you work for this guy named Merc. And there’s also this guy named Drake who also works for them, but never shows up once in the entire game. However you see his face in Chapter 6(no he’s not a dragon).
Your first mission is to deliver a bag to another runner. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, that’s not even the first level.
The main plot first starts as your sister, named Kate, who is a cop for the city is being accused of killing Robert Pope, the CEO of some company. He was also running for Mayor, and you’re trying to clear her name. But the more I played, the more difficult it was to understand the plot.
First, one says “Yeah. I framed her! No I didn’t kill Pope. I hired a professional”, then another guy says “I killed Pope”, and then even another guy says “I killed Pope!”.. who fucking killed Pope??

Cheats… well, the cheats that say they work, don’t. So I had to go to cha-chinghappens.com(cheathappens.com), and I saw they have a trainer for the Steam version, but you have to be a Prem member to download the damn thing. As desperate as I was to play this without dieing every fucking time trying to get out of the building, I paid to upgrade my account, and was able to download it.
Now I have a ‘customized’ trainer. A trainer that has a special code that I believe will trigger a silent alarm to cheathappens.com if anyone BUT me uses it. Bastards…
When I had the trainer in hand, my controls where buggy, and I found out that the trainer was using this ‘Force Direction’ cheats, that where fucking up with my movement controls.
I used their Trainer Customizer and remapped the keys to other keys, allowing the trainer and my movement controls to work correctly.

So here we go. The big list of pros and cons;
Pros;
Gameplay
AI
Good, but hard to understand plot
Your player character never needs to rest

Neutral;
No reload option for weapons

Cons;
Dev’ish graphics
No cheat codes
No Save/Load Game
Overuse of bloom/HDR, and no way to switch it off

.
.
And so you have it. My review of Mirror’s Edge.
I give this game, a 3.5 out of 5. Needs more toggable features.

Lock Up issue makes a comeback / Lowbies in high places

Ever since the 3.1.2 patch, WoW has been locking up, and locking up like it did in the past, before I got my new PSU. Does this mean the 3.1.2 patch resurrected my lock up issue?

The night of the 3.1.2 patch, I was in Desolace on my Tauren Hunter, watching the sunset from “my house” in Shadowprey Village. Basically, the hut above the Inn. I noticed how… ugh, bloomy it was. I can’t stand Bloom/HDR. Makes things so bright you need sunglasses.
Anyway, as I was looking at the sun, suddenly my game froze, along with my computer. My bottom jaw fell to the floor when I saw that.
I started to think “No….. NO… NOOOO!!!! NOT AGAIN!!! .. Wait. Maybe it was a glitch. A fluke. YEAH! It was just a fluke! Just a fluke!”
So I went back in, and I was talking to angry. I left to go get my snack, came back and saw my computer had rebooted itself. I nearly dropped my glass of milk. It happened AGAIN!!
I was thinking after what angry said; “It’s the sun”, that it might be. Maybe it was too intense for my video card to handle, and it won’t happen again.

The day after that, after it didn’t lock up, and I was Level 38, I decided to do SM for the first time on my char. We did Cath twice in a row, just for XP.
The 2nd time after we defeated the final bosses, I was on my way out…and WHAM! I wanted to scream right then and there, but I thought “Ok. I’m going to reinstall WoW and see what happens.”, so I told them that I was pooped and was going to leave, and headed back to the Undercity.
Then I logged out and proceeded to reinstall. First I tried running the Repair utility, and it found nothing wrong with the installation.
So I spent a few hours, with an aching tooth that was making it hard for me to think.
Angry got mad when I didn’t wanna see some video about silver, due to me only caring about fixing an issue that doesn’t want to stay fixed.
After the install, I got back in… 5 minutes later, WHAM! All of that work for nothing. But at least I know it’s not my WoW installation that’s causing it.

Anyway, there’s other news to pass along. I don’t know what’s going on, but twice since I’ve been questing in STV(Stranglethorn Vale), I’ve been visited by lowbies. First, a Level 11, and 2nd, recently, a Level 21. STV is a 30-45 zone… how in the hell did they survive long enough to get to me?
The Level 11 Undead wanted to help me and this guy I was grouped with to kill these trolls. When he showed up, they nearly fucking ganked us! He couldn’t take the hint of what he was doing was wrong, and ran away, crying.
The 2nd one, just recently as I’m typing this, I’m now Level 39, and I was heading toward this troll camp to kill these guys for my quests.
I have some trouble with aggro with a 3rd guy, a caster, wanting to join the fight. So I Feign Death and that makes him go away. No sooner than two seconds after that, this Level 21 Tauren Hunter pops up next to me, and helps me with my kill and says “hi”, and I say “Hi, fellow Hunter”, and then he begins following me for no reason.
Trying to ignore him, I continue questing. Then I hear something behind me and turn around as I’m attacking this mob and see the Level 21 getting ganked. Somehow he either hearths out or escapes, because I never saw a body.
So, I don’t know what’s going on. First an annoying kid named “Paul” from tusongold.com that wouldn’t leave me alone, and now this.

The 3.1.2 patch

It’s patch day once again. And of course the realms are down longer than normal, even though they said only a selected group of realms would be down longer, which doesn’t include mine.

I told them on the WoW forum that this would happen, and I was told I didn’t have faith. Though this had to be sarcasm.
Trouble is, I always hate being right when the news is against me, and it is. Not only are they concluding maintenance, they’re also trying to help people having problems with the patch.
They claim the servers will be back up the next hour. I’d say we won’t see them ’till 4PM EDT, as the other servers will have extended maintenance until then.

Fortunately, I was wrong this time, and the servers came back online about 10 minutes before 3PM. Usually this isn’t the case. But it wasn’t anywhere as bad as the 3.1.0 patch.
