Day 3 started off rather unusual, and ended up with the first part of..not really going as far as I’d hoped. There was someone in my Local when I logged in, named ‘Sharlee’. We talked a bit, and I asked if anyone was planning to found the area I was at. I also asked where I could find resources in the area. Was told about the Peat, yet the person also says “and tar somewhere but if you have peat no need for tar”.
Explained I needed tar for my lantern. Person said I could put cotton seeds in a Fruit Press and make oil as an alternative (and was told “it burns brighter”..but I bet it also burns quicker). So cotton can be used elsewhere besides healing wounds and making string and rope.
I found where the person was by following a south road towards the two peat areas. Person was duel-welding a wolf. Didn’t know people still duel weld(as I hear it’s quite crappy). She owns this small deed named ‘Peat’s Sake’. Anyway, that..was it for awhile (not really good with small talk). But as I was leaving, I mentioned about people leaving for WU (as a question of why). I said that how you can’t explore new worlds like you can in WO. She said she’s staying here and also likes exploring.
Left again, getting ready to go do my own thing. Suddenly she calls for help of tower guards. I race back to assist with the troll and do so. After it’s dead, she gives me the corpse as a surprise. I take the corpse of the troll out of the deed and drop it. No recipe on this one. She starts asking if I want a rare recipe. I’m thinking “what’s the catch?” and ask how much does she want for it, and says it’s free. That’s cool!
And then, I have to wait for her main (“Sharney”) to get here, and she logs out.
So, I wait, and wait, and wait…and wait some more. While I’m waiting, I take the time to survey the area. There’s a named guard tower (called ‘The Dark Brotherhood G” of the abandoned deed off to the right of the area I wanted to found. This isn’t good, as it means I won’t be able to slap my own guard tower down where it will be useful.
I also found what I think could be a cave canal leading to the south coast. Without my boat, I can’t fully check.
Sol is now starting to go down and I haven’t gone anywhere, and I’m losing my patience. I PM’d her and asked if she’s still coming. She said she is, but that was the only response. No “I’m sorry this is taking so long” or anything else.
Eventually got fed up and left. No amount of recipe is worth this silent treatment! Now heading NE towards the potential hunting area. Going through it, I found a bridge leading to an island on the SE coast of the server. It looked like a bridge in GTA V. It took a bit of effort getting down this hill in order to get on the bridge. On the other side, I entered a deed named “New Port Benden”. And I believe this was Celi’s Impalong site back in 2015 (with a lot of items named “PB Impalong 2015”).
Went north to its docks. Undeeded, so I was able to set up camp here. I feel burned having to wait so long and she never showed up. She could had at least mailed the recipes to me.
Well, no matter. Surely I can make up for the lost time. Unfortunately…it seems I’m starting to lose interest in this server as there’s not enough “WOW” (in my opinion). I guess I got spoiled by Deli, that I expect all other servers to follow the same pattern of pure beauty. And when they don’t, it feels disappointing (and boring).
Maybe it’s just the South coast that’s boring.
There’s also another frustrating thing, and that’s how the map dump’s mountains are hiding the roads infront of them (due to the way Rolf took the dumps). Indy was the same way in 2010, and in 2015 before the new map format came out.
But my luck is going to have to change eventually. At least, I hope it does.
Well, there was definitely a change in the number of people in my Local when I logged in. Took me by complete surprise. Yet most of these people were alts, or alts of friends for one of those priest sconces. Talked to the main guy here, who’s also from Indy. Anyway, from my position was a road leading into a valley of mountains (west of the lake at The Great Plains). Found the road easily. Thankfully there was a guard tower up here as I definitely have been over-using it. I’ve also been repairing my gear as soon as I get done with combat. It’s something I was recommended to do, in order to keep damage up (yet not take too much QL away). Keep forgetting to do it at times, but I’m trying to teach myself not to.
Anyway, there were three lakes here I wanted to check out. The first one, not bad. The second..my jaw dropped to the floor of how small, and traquil it was. It also looks like it has a cave canal, but I can’t really find out without a boat. If it does..holy fuck, this is good. Like my own personal lake. Though I didn’t mark it as a potential, as again I need to know if what I saw is actually a cave canal.
Third lake, it felt too open and too..crowded to even be considered.
I was heading for two more lakes; ones that were sitting on the SW coast yet I didn’t know how to access them by boat. After navigating many roads in deep forests, I got close to the main crater lake. Entered an area that was infested with cave bugs..including their big mamma; Aged champion cave bug. And I kicked her creepy face. That makes two champ mobs I’ve killed so far(just on this server). Wow, the hunting is fantastic on this server (that is if I wasn’t so “F— OFF!!!” to mobs).
Anyway I made it to the crater lake. Was nice, but all around the side of the lake was too steep to be considered a potential. Was another lake behind this, but I had to play with a few trolls to get by it. One ven troll as I was trying to lead it to a guard tower around the cave bugs, was just taking its sweet time casually walking over to me. Typical troll, trolling me. 😛
Holy fuck, so many spiders trying to get to the second lake!! The sides of the lake -looked- flat enough to be considered, but when I got there, it was the same as the crater lake. On top of that, Solset happens. I’m forced to dig a 2×1 section and flatten it out just to allow the tent to be placed…only for the BS to happen again.
SERIOUSLY…FIX this vague “you are not allowed to put your tent here” crap! Explain it better!
I bitched about it to Global Kchat, and CA HELP. Though I never checked the second as I assumed the answer would be “you’ll have to talk to the devs about that”. Global Kchat was shockingly helpful, but sadly they couldn’t help me as the bullshit persisted no matter all the suggestions I tried. I was forced to stay the night. On top of that, I was having bio issues IRL.
To log off and deal with it, I would run the risk of having my horse stolen (again). To stay on and deal with it, I would run the risk of coming under attack and not being able to help my player character. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t. Thankfully the feeling went away for the time, just intime as Solrise happened.
Next, I wanted to check out more of those strange islands just off the coast (that I was stuck in a fog bank while in my boat). Had to navigate around the coast to get there. On the way, was an ‘Aged champion wild chat’. DUDE.. seeing this many un-penned champ mobs is unnerving, but seeing that the wild cat (that nearly looks like a typical housecat) have their own champ version?? Wow. So that makes it 3 champ mobs I’ve killed!
Finally made it to the islands. First island, I’ve dubbed “Bearshark Island” (due to all the bearsharks patrolling the island). This island is also close to this strange structure with four pillars(several 1×1’s stacked up), and a very tall central pillar.
The second pillar, this is where things got a bit funny (and also extremely annoying). The mobs here, where playing King of The Hill with me (of this small flatraised 1×1), and they were winning..especially when a troll spawned behind me and nearly made me shit my pants. Guard tower here, yet I failed in trying to direct the guards to pick specific targets (telling them to kill a spider that wasn’t even after me, when a hell hound was).
After all of that chaos, it ended by killing my first hell scorp. I wanted to kiss my new toy after that, as that wasn’t possible before. So after that, there was this interesting tunnel I wanted to check out to the North. See, I AM finding cool stuff to explore! That, and to get my mind off of a potentially bad thing IRL (that will mess with exploration) I’ll explain at the closing of Day 3.
There was a deed in the way of reaching a bridge. I was forced to swim around it. The irony of this place is the arch bridge is named “The Most Useless Bridge Ever Built”.
Useless bridge? Nah. How about useless deed?!
I finally got to the bridge. Turned around and….my rented horse wasn’t behind me. Annoyed, I was forced to swim back and found the stupid thing trying to get around one of the walls..DUURRR I’m a HORSE!! I can’t get around walls! DURRR!!
With the horse in tow, I got back to the bridge and continued north. Infront of me where a bunch of farm animals all ready to be groomed, with a troll next to an incline ahead of me. Of COURSE there would be a troll there. Kicked on it and outran the troll. Guard tower near me. Was getting ready to head back, and another troll comes out of nowhere. When you think it’s safe, a troll’s club is about to mash your face in!
Both trolls now dead. One of them dropped a supreme recipe!! NICE! 😀
Finally reached the tunnel, yet it seems most of the routes were blocked off by cave-ins except one, which lead me out to a confusing place. Did find my way back to the coast. I’m now heading to an oddly-placed large island on the West coast. Well, I will once Sol rises again.
Reached the island. There are three deeds named from towns in Skyrim here (Yorikstead, Kynesgrove, and Dawnstar), but two of them are disbanded (with one completely gone except for one last structure). Tried to also access the island’s core and see the lava, but it’s not there anymore.
Yorikstead is the most interesting. It’s disbanded and falling apart, but it seems they didn’t really care what happened to their belongings. Clearly, looters got to the area way before I showed up. But there were still a few things I could grab, such as signs. And if I had my large cart with me, I could grab their spinning wheel.
Left the island and headed East toward a deed named Serenity Harbor. Killed several alert lava spiders when I neared the place. Here, they have nearly every door open to the public; it’s like a museum (“look but don’t touch our stuff”). Was pretty cool.
Continued heading East. Started to hear thunder IRL. Entered a completely decayed deed (that was once named “Felucca”). This, with another abandoned deed next to it, used to be a ‘mega-deed’. Place still has a guard tower, and I’m using it to sign out of Day 3.
So that ends Day 3! Started off boring, and got more interesting. Tomorrow… tomorrow, well, it’s something I need to discuss with you guys. At once it was making me sick to my stomach. Tomorrow afternoon, will be fine. Tomorrow evening..not so much.
See, an even more powerful cold front is supposed to generate not one, but two rounds of severe weather for us. What’s scary about it, is it’ll happen during the overnight and morning hours of Wednesday (tomorrow) morning. This means I’ll be ending Day 4 earlier than normal.
But this is still 24 hours out and could change(but I doubt by much at this point), so the weathermen still need time to be able to finally dial in exactly when the storms move in. One model shows it’ll start in the night around 10pm EST(while another shows it starting at 3am EST Wednesday morning), but still shows a second powerful line pushing in by 8 in the morning.
Again, it could change. But if it continues to show these powerful lines pushing through the morning hours, I’ve already vowed to stay up all night and morning to stay weather-aware (and ready to take the proper precautions if the worst happens). Yes, it’ll ruin my health, but a tornado killing me in my sleep would be a lot worse. I don’t have a weather radio (for good reason, as I will have a mini-heart attack everytime I hear the alert go off…much like the tornado sirens going off).
Tornado risk will be higher than last Friday, due to more favorable conditions. Though a ‘March 2nd 2012 scenario’ seems very unlikely (thank God!), multiple warnings (some tornadic) cannot be ruled out. Main threat is large hail and damaging straight-line winds. Even if we don’t see a tornado, power outages could be possible.
Personally, I ‘think’ I’ll be OK through this(at least it’s not a Moderate risk), but a threat of tornadoes always makes me uneasy and unable to think straight.
So I just wanted to let you guys know that Day 4 will likely end early. There’s a chance I might restart later on, but it depends if I still have power (or even a house). There won’t be a “Part X” or so of this.
