Reading the description of this “exclusive Playstation Plus edition”, and how it says “If you want more, upgrade to the full version for $25!”….. mmhmm. Already sounds like a demo. Typical Sony.
Yet the funny thing is, if this was a demo, then how come I have spent 5+ hours waiting for the game to download? Let’s see… I had to wait a half an hour for the main game to install, then 3+ hours for the Application Data, and another 5+ hours to grab the Update File. This review is going to go REAL well! inb4 really, really bad review…
I wish this could be a “Benie’s HELL – DRIVECLUB Playstation Plus Edition” blog post.
Anyway, here we go! After launching and seeing the intro, I’m greeted to the controls, where I have to accept.. hmm. “You must accept using a controller! DO IT!!”… nah, I like my keyboard & mouse more. 😛
So I just did a race in some snowy track, and I’m sitting there slipping and sliding.. to 12th (last) place. I was actually 1st.. for about two seconds. Can’t figure out where the freakin’ break button is. I must say, though.. quite awesome effects with the snow hitting the windshield. I never knew snow could smear into white streaks like that.
After getting that done.. I was greeted to the main menu. What an odd way to start a game. Anyway, the game does have Single and Multiplayer. Of course, having no friends, I picked the Single Player option. Here I can race, do a time trial, or a drag run. Chose the race option.
And there are these races that take place through a lot of locations… yet I have to “upgrade” my Playstation Plus Edition. Yes, I must pay $25 to play a game I have no idea what it’s about, to unlock the other locations! *claps* Brilliant, Sony! BRILLIANT!! … And I thought Blizzard was bad.
My only free option of locations, is going to India. There are 13 levels in it. Some of these are the same level but in reverse.
Setting up the level, I got to set weather and stuff, then pick the kind of car I want to use. Most of them are locked to either the game, or the upgrade. There’s only two cars in this gigantic list of vehicles I can drive. Two.
After picking one of of the two available vehicles, I do find it pretty cool how I was able to customize the paint, or just leave it as stock. The other cool part is watching myself opening up the driver’s side door and getting in the car. Right.. going to do this race and see how it goes. Probably going to be last again.
YEP… last! I didn’t even get close to seeing at least 10th place. They were like.. miles away from me.
.
Right.. time for the review (after losing three times(with everytime in 12th place), this is going in the trash).
Good:
-The game actually has player vehicle damage!
-Cool animation of getting into your car before a race.
Bad:
-AI drivers are immune to vehicle damage!
-AI drivers cannot spin out, and NEVER fuck up! No matter how many times I smack them.
-No difficulty level for AI drivers.
-The game is designed with friends in mind. You can also race against other player drivers.
-The game took many, many hours to download. Yet all it was, was a fucking demo…
-Blurred textures (road surface, trees, bilboards.. everything).
-No vehicle customization. I can’t make my car go any faster.
Final review… don’t even download this, or buy it (unless you have friends who play it, and/or have Fiber Optic as your internet connection). I didn’t even try out the online play, because I’m not going there.
