Of the three games I’ve played, I was sure this one wouldn’t suck or ‘be not for me’. Because Dan showed off this game just a day ago, and he had a lot of fun with it. I… I’m actually not, really. Mainly, remember how I said I suck with a controller? Heh.. this proves it. Where Dan had scored 15 goals on Rookie difficulty, I… scored 0. My problem? I’m trying to rush to the ball, then I cock it up and either go past it and not hit it (and go where the ball isn’t), or end up smacking it in our goal instead of the opposing team. :/
Even with the customization options, there’s nothing that would help to control the car’s turning radius. But you can decorate it in quite a few colors and shapes. You can set a logo, color, a hat to wear (yes, even this game has hats. Curse you TF2!) and also a world flag. I of course picked the USA flag. You can also unlock other cars. Unlocks are earned even if you lose horribly.
You can learn how to play the game (has a pretty good tutorial system), but it didn’t really do me any good when I had AI players smacking the ball away from me (even my own AI teammates). I think I’m better off as a Goalie. Seriously. At least there, I can watch the action, cheer when my team wins, and block the ball from going in our goal.
I also tried this championship match (as a goalie). So far, the Dragons (me and my AI team) have won 2 and lost 2. There’s been some really crappy teams, and some really good ones. The last match, we were getting destroyed. And myself as a Goalie wasn’t really doing a good job stopping the ball from going in.
.
Review time. Since we’re being literally stomped on by mammoths (and what’s worse, they’re in 8th place on the standings and we’re #1), I might as well do the review;
Good:
-Fun gameplay.
-Can be fully played in Single Player, unlike DRIVECLUB.
-Utilizes Unreal 4 engine quite well.
Bad:
-Seems the standings have no real meaning to the level of difficulty. I got it on Rookie (which should effect all bot teams), and I keep getting my ass kicked by some teams, while we curb-stomp others. And the ones that kick our ass are low in the standings. That’s not realistic. It’s all based on RNG and not difficulty.
Neutral:
-A bitch to master.
-Microstuddering when a championship match starts, but only one time.
.
Final review: If you’ve used a controller for most of your life, you’ll master this game no problem. If you’re like me who has used a keyboard & mouse all of their life, you will have issues even on the easiest difficulty (and are better off being a Goalie for your AI teammates).
