Other witty titles against the hatred Sea Monkeys;
-“Allow me to turn the Vasper into an Ion Cannon to nuke the Sea Monkeys from orbit!”
-“Hey Sea Monkey! You want the pointy side of this knife?! TRY ME!!”
-“When you know you had a bad day: about ready to run out of oxygen, getting pelted by hail on the surface, and a Sea Monkey takes your Seaglide!”
I HATE Sea Monkeys!! I swear, they were programmed just to fuck with YOU!
But, enough about them. This is just a placement to say I’ve now been
playing Subnautica: Below Zero. And my goodness is it different than what I’ve been used to of playing the current Early Access build (November 2019). I can feel a brand new ‘risk VS reward scenario’ all over this game.
For example, trying to get Lithium in the Purple Vents and hearing these
nightmarish, dark fuckers roaring their heads off like dragons above me. They take away nearly half health in one bite, and are FAST! I have to use my Seaglide in order to out-swim them.
I would classify them as mini-leviathans, from the way they roar (and how much damage they do).

And then there’s (what I personally call) the “red terror of the deep” that’s even faster (as fast as the player is with a Seaglide and takes 3/4 of your health away in one bite), that makes me feel so small.
I even got informally ‘introduced’ to its insides (twice) while trying to scan it…

“You died and shat your pants.”

Fucking hell… NOTHING should need that many teeth!!
Okay, I can understand the devs definitely listened to the players of really wanting to be even more scared of the ocean, but what I want is for these to have a purpose for more than just scaring the shit out of the player (quite literally). For example, why.. oh fucking why, does the red terror the ‘Chelicerate’, but I prefer ‘Red Terror’) need to have so many fucking teeth?! WHY in the fuck is this thing alive?! Surely the player isn’t its only ‘meal’!
This build is obviously without its bugs (which I pray the one I found, gets fixed quite quickly). And that is with Solar Panels on a habitat. Feel like I’m the only one having this issue (which is never a good thing).
There is also other bugs I’ve encountered. For example, the supply rocket not being
there, and a certain part of the story (for some very odd reason) not being triggered, like it was removed or disabled to work on it. Though IMO it was perfect (from what I saw when IGP was doing it), and I don’t understand why it didn’t trigger.
Because of this (and the fact this ‘Base Omega’ doesn’t show a waypoint like it does finding the entrance to the Arctic Spires.. still don’t know how in the hell Sam knew you had a Seatruck and freely was all “here, have a depth module for the Seatruck I seem to know you made!”)… the game feels too unfinished (IMO) to continue playing it.

Yes, it’s in Early Access. Completely understandable (and I already knew this). 🙂 But, I see a troubling thing in their ‘Favro‘; according to their roadmap, it looks like they’re almost done (and we might see a release sometime this year). Yet the game doesn’t look ‘almost done’ when cutscenes aren’t happening and dialog can accidentally be skipped when sleeping.
But maybe these aren’t really game-breaking and will be fixed with time. To me, they kind of are at the time, especially with an opening of the crashed ship that I can easily swim through, but is blocked by an invisible wall.
.
Anyway, hopefully there will be an update sometime this month to grab my interest for this game again. It’s definitely different than the original Subnautica; more dialog than just with your PDA (and the player character speaks/has emotion).
This also feels like a downgrade from the original.. the map feels like a quarter the size of the original. And the zones (other than the Twisty Bridges) look.. bland and boring. Never really a fan of snow. It feels cold, and looks cold.
I hate cold. 😛 However, I really like the new weather effects (especially the white-out conditions when you can barely see anything infront of you).
