Trying to recreate what I did has been quite frustrating, of where I’m failing at a fucking tutorial.
See, I’m trying to do this part, where you select the top and bottom ‘faces’ after you make the second poly shape. Then you’re supposed to go to Rescale Mode and move where you want the interior to be.
I got all of this down packed now. The problem, is I cannot move both points of the top and bottom face to move together. I manage to move the top nodes, but the bottom doesn’t move with it. Doesn’t fucking make sense! It was working FINE before!
My friend still hasn’t responded to me, and I forced to ask for help in the VRChat Discord. Not getting a response to “does anyone use ProBuilder?” was frustrating me, and only added onto the issues with this ‘well known’ program.
I did eventually get a response, with one person mentioning three names that “have mentioned it”. But mentioning it (and being good at it) are two different things. Since the first two (at the time) were unavailable, I seeked out the 3rd name in the list. I expected to get a “not really” response after asking if they’re good at it, but surprisingly the person told me they’re actually building an entire world, using ProBuilder.
Thought I’d ask if they could help me get past a fucking tutorial (it feels highly degrading), and he was able to (after sharing my screen, and him trying to recreate what I’m doing). He said he was getting the same issue, but managed to find a workaround. Except.. it feels like more trouble than its worth. Basically, I have to shift drag (in a specific camera angle) to get both fucking nodes selected, in order to move both of them at the same time. Wow. This is messed up.
But it got even worse when he taught me how to make a doorway (and a window). With the plethora of steps I had to do, I have NO idea how to do it on my own (and that’s not a good feeling). It looks like a complete mess. And on top of that, he’s saying “don’t do this, don’t do that” with the program (for doing more advanced moves).
I had just fucking started using this program a few days ago… and now I’m starting to regret ever having an idea to make a world (at least, the world I want to make, when I can’t even do the god damn house).
Why? Why am I having to go through so much hell, to add something as SIMPLE AS A FUCKING WINDOW?! This is similar to the hell I went through, just to upload an avatar.
On top of it, he’s telling me that “it’s easier for me to do this than tell you”. I actually fucking wish you could, pal. Because…
Because I don’t know what I’m going to do now. I feel like giving up trying to do something that’s seems ‘impossible’ (for myself) to do. I shouldn’t have to be going through so much hell, doing basic moves. Have to learn what to select, how Extruding works, how ‘Bridge Faces’ and all of this other shit works (and when/where to use it).. why?

EDIT: After talking with Oliver about the whole Unity texture scaling thing (and himself showing me his simple way of dealing with it), I’ve decided to get rid of ProBuilder (but keep ProGrids). I also wrote a review on its page of the Asset Store, basically saying how “it’s nice, but it needs more work in the support department” — commenting the lack of a Discord server being the main problem.
.
But on a semi-unrelated up note (while watching Kibble’s stream of making the Pirate Boi possible), I discovered he built the entire world in Unity. But that’s not to say the assets he used (for the terrain and the walls of the church) can be found on the store. Pretty sure he made those in Blender, textured them in Photoshop, and used Unity to place them in.
Anyhoo, that’s pretty awesome that he’s using Unity (instead of Blender) to build the world. Maybe I can ask him (when he streams that kind of content) some world building questions now.
He actually did answer some of mine during the stream, such as how he keeps players from going beyond where he wants them to (if doing cubes is the best option). He showed me that he uses a sphere (that he makes into a dome) with the mesh render disabled. Pretty nice idea, Kibble. I might do this for my world.
