I have joined the thing I don’t really like about Skyrim (and one of the things that made me quit ESO last year); The Dark Brotherhood. However, with new tools (and a new start (well.. new to me)), it’s actually not that bad.
I also been doing the three questlines as I said in my last post. However, I have to report that it seems the Fighters and Mages Guild questlines are still level-based (of their individual levels), and aren’t part of One Tamriel. Aka, I can’t advance the Mages Guild questline until I find enough Lorebooks to push that skill to Level 3.
I did manage to complete the Fighter’s Guild until I was told I have to go to Skyrim to continue it (I think anyway). Went over my options and.. I decided to try out this questionable quest to ‘Kill an Innocent’ in the town of Anvil of the Gold Coast (which is somewhere on the West side of Tamriel, and the only way to get there is either by boat or Wayshrine). And even more disturbing is what the quest description was saying, of “getting their attention”. Wow. Fuck being the good guy (with literally no soul), huh?

Made it to Anvil via the Wayshrine (tried to go there by boat, but I would have to travel North through Dominion lands to get there, and ain’t nobody got time ‘fo that (especially with the server going down at 4am for routine maintenance)!
Stalked my prey, a lone fisherman just trying to make some honest coin. No guards around, and then stabbed him with my daggers knowing a bounty would soon be on my head. Sure enough, there was. But again, no guards attempted to stop me and I was able to get to the next step, which was receiving a mysterious letter with a black hand.. for it was The Dark Brotherhood calling me.
I attempted to do this initial task of going to this estate on the Gold Coast to assassinate this lord. Got a new toy to play with, called the ‘Blade of Woe’. Simply sneak up to any unsuspecting hostile or neutral mob, hit X and insta-kill. If you do this without anyone watching, you will NOT get a bounty! 😀 So awesome.
However, I fucked up so.. so many times, mainly of the mob turning around at the last second, or getting stuck in an area and being spotted (got pissed off once by it) and wound up with a bounty of 1,320g. DAMN! This is by far, the most expensive bounty I ever racked up in this game.
Anyway, killed my target with the Blade of Woe (without fucking it up). I’m not going to lie, I had fun. Having the Blade of Woe is pretty awesome, and it’s an awesome way to deal with stealth quests.
Made it to the fence in Anvil (came very close from being seen by a guard on the docks, thankfully it wasn’t fully looking in my direction) and paid the bounty, yet was able to get every bit of it back with all the profitable shit I stole from that place (and then some). 🙂 Unfortunately I had also sold the thing I had that could’ve removed some of that bounty (I had done this sooner by complete accident, and didn’t realize ’till later).
I then went to a Sanctuary. As I’m going there, I asked Zone chat if the Morrowind DLC changed how this plays out (or if this was done at an earlier date). I’m pretty sure it started with a woman I met at the Windhelm docks, who then ported me to the front of this house and told me to sneak past all of these stealth-stopping mobs that I could not kill.
This however? Having to kill an innocent, the letter, going to a lighthouse, meeting one of the Speakers, then having an option to use the ‘back door’ of this same thing (which was MUCH easier on me)…yet they all said “nothing’s been changed” since the release of the DLC in 2015, and saying they didn’t know what I was talking about. The fuck?! As much as I tried to explain what I remember, they’re saying “your memory is wrong”.
Actually, you know what? Whatever. I don’t care, honestly. I got past what made me quit this game (and had fun). Isn’t that what really matters?
Moving on, I’m now at the Sanctuary and met the family. Apparently this will be my new home. I also got the official Dark Brotherhood outfit to do my evil deeds of “delivering ‘gifts'” as the Speaker put it in such a ‘kind’ way.
And now I have my first official contract as a recruit of The Dark Brotherhood, of locating the target and assassinating the guy in anyway I see fit (that the game (and my Dual Weld Daggers/Bow build) will allow of course), in a familiar-named town where I became the hero of in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion; ‘Kavach’. To see this town 900 years ago (before the official single player game’s setting took place) will be quite cool.
And if I’m not wrong, also in this area is where I first met up with The Dark Brotherhood in my sleep (after killing a guard when I went on a GTH (Grand Theft Horse) spree.
Unfortunately this is going to have to wait ’till the next day, as the servers have done down for that maintenance I mentioned earlier. One thing to mention about the maintenance, is before it happened, it was doing it’s standard “The server will be going down in X minutes”, yet it also did it in three other languages (besides American English). Quite weird.
