“Tired of running away…? BANG! And the pirate’s gone!”

Ugh…I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I came so…SO close to quitting (twice), and there’s less than a week until the GNE launches. Not to mention, I really need a new keyboard (the ‘/’ key won’t register as being tapped until I literally have to slam the key down).
It’s been a real mess for me.

It started after taking nearly three hours completing runs in Sothis. I made 60 mil with my new Conda. Been once again selling engineer commodities that I acquire (to keep the pirates off me).
I felt I was ready to finally go to Farseer and get that long-awaited FSD upgrade. Had another member of the EDEX Discord group to give me the 9 modular terminals I needed (for 9 rolls), and then attempted to go to Farseer.

Right after the first jump, I get interdicted. Typically, I run like a pussy. This time…this time I wanted to try out these new turrets that another person suggested I get. Was tired of running away from pirates. I felt, it was time to show them to NOT FUCK WITH ME!!!
The interdictor, was also an Anaconda. He shredded through my shields, making me venerable. I opened fire as well, taking down his shield faster than he did with mine.
When I saw my ship’s health dropping quickly, I turned around and attempted to high wake to the next system. But it said how my FSD was offline. Knew I was fucked, so the only course of action is to kill this son of a bitch before he does the same to me.
———
He died, and I screamed out IRL “FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE!!!!” But he left me with 30% health. My ship was heavily crippled, sparks and puffs of smoke flying off everywhere. So yeah. I was fucked. I couldn’t jump away. And I was also so horribly pissed off that I lost so much health. I wondered why this 153 mil thing wasn’t helping me in my survival.
Someone asked me “is the health of your FSD to 0%?” I checked…and it wasn’t. It was my fucking hardpoints causing 1/4 of my modules to overload due to poor power management (more like a poor build choice).
So I retracted my hardpoints, and guess what…? I could jump again. The person’s telling me to head back to a station and repair, and I’m all “it’s just going to repeat if I try again”. Thankfully, I did get back to a station with no issues..well, except forgetting to request docking. Really wish it was automatic (or toggled better). Got a 500Cr fine for that stunt. 😛

Weapons on a tradeconda. It doesn’t really fit, even know I wanted them a lot. I wanted them to scare the shit out of NPCs (as I said above). Something that is impossible to do. And this was the first instance of wanting to quit forever.
And then comes CMDR Ashpoker, saying he’ll help me through this mess. Says he’ll get me the components of “Dirty Drive Tuning” Class 3. He says that this would give me a ton of boost speed to outrun any NPC. It still won’t get rid of the BS multiple interdictions by the same pirate, but maybe it’ll make it less unbearable to deal with.
However, this would reduce the life of my thrusters (and also increase the heat of my ship).

Speaking of heat (and lots of it), there was a rather heated debate (that I purposely caused). The debate was over a good tradeconda build for me, between Ashpoker and the one that has helped me before. I was getting REALLY stressed out and wanted the matter taken care of — both of them saying “no.. you don’t need X, get Y” with the other saying “What?! Dude, get Y, not X!”
But finally a build was… well, OK, it wasn’t decided by the two, but it’s OK. My only major concern is, I feel I actually need these two 16T fuel tanks as the other guy’s build. Mainly because the fuel tank gets drained quite quickly. And trying to scoop, the ship heats up too quickly for me to complete it. I don’t think he knows that I like having a full tank.

Moving on, today (well, I would say yesterday), he got most of the things I need as I managed to get someone else to deliver the modular terminals for me. Having people that don’t mind being interdicted over and over, is actually a good thing. As they don’t mind helping me (if they’re not busy, of course).
Got the canisters, and to Farseer with no problems. And then I did my first roll. Ashpoker says that the first roll (on an unmodded module) is usually a good roll. And it seems it has paid off, with my Conda now having a near 40Ly jump range. This is double the default 20Ly range.

And then, came the second ‘I want to quit forever’ moment(but it came later than this). With 8 modular terminals left, I told him I would just sell them to keep the pirates off me. And he’s all “No! Don’t do that! They’re valuable!” I replied with “Yeah, to pirates.” He starts telling me “dude, I fly in blah blah blah with less than you do and I don’t fear pirates”
Felt like saying “Well, good. You can get this off my hands, then. I don’t need it.”, but instead I’m of course getting annoyed he won’t let me sell them and say something like “I wish I didn’t have a fear of death”.
This went on and on, but he stopped it by telling me to leave and look for Unidentified Signal Sources for the micro-material I need (for the Dirty Drive Tuning).

As soon as I start to leave the planet…
“YARR HAR!! BOOTY!!” -Space pirate tank
I tell him, and he’s all “Don’t worry! Just boost away!” Right after I get interdicted, and then do exactly that. I manage to get away..and then the guy does it again. And then I really start to whine at him, and he slaps the “you seriously expected this game to be easy” question on me, saying he would have it 100x harder if he was a dev. Good. Whatever. I would NOT be fucking playing it if that was the case, asshole!! Hell, I would had saved $50 (and money on the HOTAS)! You’re fucking lucky I can’t get my money back now!

… . . . Sorry about that. It has been quite the stressful 48 hours. But yeah, if he was a dev and got his way, I would had never bought ED.
But then he tells me something I’ve never been told since I started playing ED and got interdicted for the first time; they have a limit to the number of multiple interdictions they will do until they eventually get bored and leave you alone. Something like 6-7 times, and then they stop. Personally, that’s too fucking many already. There’s NO FUCKING NEED to be interdicted THAT many times (especially when approaching a planet or a station)!

So I finally meet up with him in Decait (the system Farseer’s in) and look for these signal sources. When we do, I drop out with him (we’re in a wing). And as I do..I see the fucker who was interdicting me suddenly pop up beside me). I say “Asshole is here!” while once again trying to boost away, my shields going down. Ashpoker’s all “the police will come, just boost..I’ll wait here and do nothing” while I’m fucking running for my life.

I’m forced to SC out of there. Somehow I manage to use Ash’s wing beacon and jump in his instance, losing the pirate and allowing me to get what I need. Here, he gives me the things I need for the Dirty Drive Tuning. I grab them all, and we head to the next one… another interdiction. Same. Fucking. Pirate.
He’s telling me to go to a station. And HERE’S the ‘I want to quit forever’ part. I’m feeling “what’s the use? Another one will just take its place.”
Here, after he told me they at least had a limit, I felt my fear slightly going away. Now it’s even worse.
By this time, Ash suddenly realizes it’s 5am where he lives and prepares to get off. And on top of that, tells me to keep looking for what I need. So actually, this is that ‘I want to quit forever’ part.

Fuck that noise. Seriously. If I didn’t have cargo (to be a pirate beacon), then YES I would look. Hell, since he doesn’t mind pirates, then I’ll give him back the cargo and then look for these sites in peace! Let him go play with the pirates. I don’t want NONE of it.

Later that night, someone told me that getting rid of all of your cargo racks means you’ll be completely immune to pirates. I’ll need to do this for the explorconda build. Sure, I would only be able to scan data points on planets, but I would have absolutely NO issues with pirates!! 😀 And THAT is what I care the most. Even though, I won’t have to worry about them when >150Ly away from the bubble. Won’t even need to get the IW to save my ass (once the GNE and all of its post-activities are done) and I head back to the bubble on my own)! It’ll be PERFECT!!
But will this actually work, is a huge question mark.
