While waiting for RLcrafters last night, I was in Mumble with mfish. He’s telling me how he’s addicted to Guild Wars 2. I get curious what he’s talking about.
(Rewrite, as this is horribly fragmented)
I’ve learned the following from mfish, and a video on the Guild Wars 2 website. Forgive my constant ‘somewhat similar’ sayings);
– Guild Wars 2 is “like WoW, but less grindy”.
– There’s no mounts. Instead, there’s special waypoints. Similar to FPs in WoW(without the flying part). mfish also added that the price increases with your level, which is somewhat similar to WoW(who’s price is based on expansion).
– There’s no such thing as ‘soloing old content’. Content scales with you, giving you a challenge.
– The quest system is designed for exploration. There’s no ‘breadcrumb quests’ of getting to a specific quest giver.
– The level cap is Level 80, and will remain there forever. He answered why, but I forgot.
– It is possible to solo quests. You don’t have to be grouped. If you can solo to the max level, I need to ask mfish.
– Been told the community is easier to deal with than WoW. There’s a lot more nice people than trolls.
– There’s no faction system, despite the name of the game.
– The name “Guild Wars” came from the original game. Now there’s no such thing.
– When creating a character, from what I’ve seen, you can control the origin of your character. If they were born in a slum, or in a prosperous castle. It’s somewhat similar to Dragon Age: Origins.
– PvP is there, and like WoW, it only happens in specific areas of the game world.
– There’s also a somewhat similar thing of World PvP. Except it’s several large scale teams battling it out. Mfish said it’s “World vs World vs World.”
– The world feels alive. There’s also Random Events that can change certain areas of the world, and it even depends on your actions as a player.
– There’s no Orcs, no Tauren, and no Undead. There’s also no time traveling BS.
– There are dailies, but unlike WoW, they aren’t used to get gear. There apparently are no reputations for some reason.
– I have heard that getting gear is easier, and is somewhat similar to heirlooms in WoW(as in, increase in level as you do).
– Player Housing? mfish mentioned about “player instances” and how they can’t be customized. He also mentioned of a ‘Guild Hall’ coming in an expansion.
– The game is F2P. All you have to do is pay for the game. No subscription fees. No $14.95 a month. None of that shit.
– I ask mfish about what’s endgame content like, once you hit 80. He said there’s nothing really to do until an upcoming expansion. So, it feels similar to WoD at the moment (with it lacking in solid core content). That’s not good.
And that’s basically all I know. I believe I’m going to give this game a chance, when my WoW subscriptions end on March 17th. He says it costs $40 for the game itself. Just glad there’s no monthly fees.
