FarCry 3, completed. Thoughts

Completed the main quest last night. Though I’m having a hard time focusing on what to do next. My mind is riddled with thoughts.
The rest is endgame spoilers. So if you have played all the way to the end, then just hit the “Read More >>” button below. As for me, I need a drink to wash away my thoughts.

So. Two endings. “Good” or “Bad”. Let’s discuss them.
The Good ending, you save your friends, Citra gets stabbed accidentally by Dennis who was trying to stab you. You hear yourself that you feel you’ve turned into a monster, but know there’s still some good left in you. Credits roll, then you have the option of staying on the island (aka Freeplay).
It makes sense to choose the good ending, despite the anger built inside you after what Vass and Hoyt did. But it leaves one unanswered question; what happened to you and your friends after Citra dies? Surely the Rakyat see you as an enemy for not joining with Citra. But apparently they forgive you for killing their leader.
In my theory, and this would make sense, the Rakyat forgive you if you stay on the island (maybe as their new leader). You can never go back to civilization due to feeling like you’re a monster. So you’re forced to tell your friends goodbye.

The Bad ending, you kill your girlfriend by…. slitting her throat, have sex with Citra, and she ends up killing you by stabbing you in the chest.
Let’s face it. This ending is, how you say, “fucked up”? I’ve watched a video showing both endings, and most what people were saying was “doesn’t matter, had sex”. But here’s why this ending is so wrong. What is wrong with having sex with the one that cared for you (aka Liza, your girlfriend), instead of Citra? It proves she’s nothing but a black widow. And you walked right into her web.
And now, you’re trapped in her gaze just enough, for her to end you and put on her troll face.
And seriously… why would you want to kill your girlfriend?! Anyone that thinks this is cool, needs to get some serious help.

One person that made a comment of the video of the endings, his comment seemed right and it would fit the plot all together. He states that Vass could had been warning you (in a way) about Citra, during the scene of Vass capturing you and Liza and about to catch the place on fire.
He mentions how he had to kill his sister, and mentions: “she’s going to make you into a Warrior. We are so fucked, Jason”. These words are repeated during a dream sequence before you finally killing Vass.
The person believes that Vass went through the same thing Jason did at the end, but instead chose the Bad ending. Obviously he didn’t get stabbed. He was driven mad by anger, power, and of course drugs. Why he keeps asking you “Did I ever tell you the definition, of Insanity?”. Like he was saying “it’s what you will become, if you join Citra”. He almost reminds me of Saren in Mass Effect 1.

So the Good Ending, when you get the option to go back to the island, reminds me of Skyrim’s ending. When you’ve defeated Alduin, and the dragons are treating you as one of them. Yet, Odaviing and Parthanauxx don’t tell you that the dragons won’t be friendly with you or not. Again, unanswered questions and a feeling of not knowing what to do next.
This is the problem with freeplay. Doing all the work training and gearing up to do battle with the ‘mega boss’ at the end, then having the option of staying in the game to do what the player hasn’t done, yet not knowing what; an “empty” feeling.
Your brain is expecting more, instead of everything just suddenly ending like that. Especially the way FarCry 3 ended. The ending is the empty feeling in your brain.

There’s nothing left to kill, except animals (at least in Skyrim, dragons are still a threat even after the main questline). But that gets boring fast. Plus my brain is also trying to get over seeing Jason’s left ring finger cut off after the confrontation with Hoyt. It makes me wonder if it could had been prevented. Jason though seems to be doing just fine with one less finger. He can still shoot, climb, and everything. I’d personally would be freaking out of not having a finger.
That’s what probably disturbs my brain the most; the finger cutting scenes. Last time I saw the player’s fingers or limbs dismembered (without a ‘Mission FAILED!’ scenario) is Quake 4, of the Stroggraification process. Seeing my players legs get cut off by a saw, gave me nightmares.
Why do they have games that do this? What’s worse, even after the main quest, Jason is wearing a cover were his finger was. That seriously creeps me out. At least give him a fake finger to make it look half-normal.
