Since the release of the DLC for Gmod, I begun to get interested in this game, so I tried out the demo.
From what I’ve seen… the story, is pretty… well…. disturbing to say the least. From what I can make out from playing the demo, you play as Ghat, who is running away from his family. Why?
According to the story, you as Ghat killed this thing called “Mother-Father”. And man what a big word they call this.. thing. A ‘hermaphrodite’. Try saying that three times fast. AKA, he.. or it has male and female reproductive parts.
So you’re running away, and now you got this freak for a woman companion. I rather have Alyx. Anyway, pretty much the object of the game is to beat your opponents to death, with what else? Your fists!
Tell me. This.. guy. He has hardly no muscles. Yet he kicks ass? His arms look like mine. Wimpy.
You also have weapons. Melee and ranged weapons, that look like something out of Oblivion. In the later levels, you NEED these weapons to defeat tough opponents that can only be defeated using said weapons. The majority of this game so far seems that you use your fists to defeat enemies.
This melee combat system is awesome on it’s own level. It looks like something out of Street Fighter. You got your punches, and these advanced moves, like this hard right upper cut. You can also grab enemies and bash their skulls in, throw them, or just elbow them in the head.
But you got to think fast, as your enemies also have moves. They can block yours, send you into a wall, or whatever they wanna do. Thank goodness for difficulty levels, huh?
The only thing I liked was pretty much the scenery. It was beautiful, yet creepy at the same time. Looks like Spore. And the fact you can knock out an enemy with that uppercut and send him flying.
What I hate, well… there’s no Dev Console! D: Meaning you cannot type “god” in. I also hate the fact that you have to remember what you learned in moves, and when to execute them in a split second.
Another thing I don’t like. You’re always outnumbered 3 to 1. That’s no fair.
Still, despite the hate, there is more like. The story alone glues me to the game, wanting to just play more and more. But I feel the constant “Battle scene coming up! You VS 3, take them out!” and these arenas set up for your battles will get boring. But I haven’t played enough of it to really feel bored.
As for the price, I’d say it’s reasonable because of the graphics, and the story, and how well the characters are made. Hell. It should be worth more in my opinion.
I may buy it just for those two reasons. Anyone that reads this review should give this game a chance. I’m glad I did. At first I didn’t care about it. Now I do and I like what I saw.
When I first played it, I was all “Oshi… 3 vs 1?! Uhh… ok. Lets see. Target this bitch in the hat first, try to knock her out. Maybe the other two won’t try to help.”, I was wrong, and got knocked out.
2nd try was easier because I knew what to do. Beat up until the enemy gets knocked away, then quickly spin around and start beating up the other guy, and repeat with the 3rd guy.
You got to be fast on your toes. There’s also this endurance bar that monitors your tired level. The more you’re tired, the less strong your punches will be.
Also, it helps kicking and punching the fucker while he’s down so he won’t start punching you.
I give this game a rating of: 7/10
