Yesterday, I have co-oped with a friend to complete what is known as the scariest VRChat world ever created. The acting and voices, were.. wow. The creator fucking nailed it. It’s like these guys are professional actors. Even the animations, were beautiful. You swear this was in another game, but no. And what’s the scariest part, is the actors in this world know of the players’ existence (and break the 4th wall a lot). They also expect you to not be soloing the world (though it’s possible, it also ruins it if you don’t have friends).
It starts off like any other horror map; slowly building up the tension. But for Desktop users (like myself and my friend), the early jumpscares weren’t really that bad. But, there’s one part where you have 2 minutes and 30 seconds to solve a puzzle.. or the world is destroyed and you have to create a brand new instance.
Watching a few YouTubers fail the first time, made our first attempt a lot less of that ‘wow, fuck this world, that shit was demoralizing as FUCK!’ feeling. They too didn’t know what the fuck to do, but on the second attempt, it finally became clear what the answer was. And after you pass this, thankfully you don’t have to go through that again.
The later half of this world, is when Big Brother spices things up and uses a typical human beings’ fears against you. And fuck, did it work on me. I wanted to get the fuck out of that world!
There was this one part, where my friend went in one door and went in the other, and both of us had to get out, attempting to face our fear of the unknown. The room shaking as you approach, a creepy person slowly turning around to face you, and then screaming at you (while running towards you).
NOPE!! NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!!! And I could imagine for VR, it would be a living nightmare (to the point they’ll probably throw their $400+ headset off). That’s the real challenge right there.
But one of the scariest parts (where I remember screaming bloody murder) is seeing something on the floor, then walking down a corridor.. turning around and seeing the thing behind me. Then suddenly it comes running at me and I get jumpscared. Fuuuuuuck that was scary.
I’m not doing this world again. 😛 Though it also had mentioned in the end, that changes have happened to a few of the main public worlds and to not go to them (similar to the whole ‘Mister Whiskers’ event).
Though, checking these mentioned worlds, I saw nothing. But maybe it’ll happen at a later date?
