I’ve been so busy in Astroneer (fuming over the fact that Power resource nodes no longer charge the batteries of a rover). On top of that, having two sources of power on each end, two-way power is no longer possible (aka, having the two medium solar panels take over for the medium wind turbine, that isn’t possible anymore).
It really forces you to re-think how you played the game in the past. But I’m not saying that I hate dislike all the changes. Being able to finally have a custom base, is pretty awesome. It opens up so much potential. Such as having a base on another planet (apart from your main base) that can act as a refueling station for your shuttle.
And the coolest thing, is the Extenders. It might be possible, to set up a power grid on the pole of a planet, and use these things to go alllllll the way back to your base.
(Editor’s Note: The Power resource node being ‘useless’ is a known issue, and will be fixed in a (hopefully coming soon) patch.)
But anyway, as I said I’ve been quite busy, that I didn’t notice VRChat has gotten an update, and the first thing in the changelog caught my eye;
Avatar Pedestals save between sessions. My jaw dropped to the floor (and my hands went skyward) when I read what this was about!! HOLY FUCK, it’s like they listened to me! Now, when you select an avatar from one of the many worlds.. it will NO LONGER default back to the last used Public avatar when you log out!! Instead, it will now use the avatar you chose when you log back in! 😀 HOLY FUCK YES!!! Now I can finally stop feeling that I’m forced to learn 3D modeling! It’ll now forever feel optional. 🙂
And there is also much, much more to this update;
-A new ‘Panic Mode’ (a series of keys). This seems useful in large rooms (and for people who are very asocial). Holding down both your Shift keys and hitting Esc(for Desktop users), mutes everyone in the room (that isn’t one of your friends).
-Desktop users now can make hand gestures, by using Left Shift with F1-F8 for Left hand gestures, and Right Shift for right hand gestures. At this time, it’s not possible to move your virtual arms (outside of VR/motion tracking of course).
-They’ve fixed ‘audio spatialization'(the feeling of hearing sound from all directions) with avatars that have this. Seems to be VR-only.
-Custom avatars that have sounds, are now part of the ‘SFX’ slider in the System menu. In future updates, this will have its own slider.
-The VRChat SDK has been updated (see important note below) to include a new feature when uploading someone else’s (or your own custom made) avatar: Public and Private access. Putting an avatar on Private, other people are not allowed to use your avatar (and potentially steal your hard work). Private avatars on avatar pedestals are marked with a padlock.
–In addition, you can change the properties of your existing uploaded avatars through the SDK’s ‘Manage Uploaded Content’ option (without having to re-upload the avatar).
(Important note for 3D modelers. You must delete the ‘VRCHATSDK’ folder from Unity completely, before importing the new SDK. Don’t try to overwrite what’s already there)
Unfortunately, they still didn’t fix the Help Videos. But it’s not that big of a deal (to me).
But these are great, fun updates. And as for if I’ll Private the avatars I’ve uploaded, of course I’m not (as they weren’t made by me). I have no rights to the models, as they were made free for anyone to use through VRCmods.com.
