The day has come for Saintdouglas to start mapping out the area for me! …Unfortunately, that never happened. Why? I actually wish I had an answer, though I believe it was many things.
First off, before I got on and was in bed, I had an idea of getting my alt over to the area and using him as a ‘range marker’, where him and I would walk one tile while getting closer together, and when we’re facing the same tile, that’s the midpoint.
After breakfast, I put the idea into action. Got to the south canal and went through, docked, and started planning. Soon we had found the exact point of where the token would be!
He sailed home, and I asked Saintdouglas if he was ready to come and was. He soon found the area. Showed him the midpoint, and he told me that I was off. So my plan has failed. Then he told me a normal deed is actually 11×11, instead of 10×10…which has been the reason why I’ve gotten thrown off so much yesterday. Then he tells me how the token could go anywhere. After then, he acts like he’s planning; walking back and forth and stopping. I’m trying to protect him, since he’s wearing cloth gear. So at this time, I thought it was just going to be a matter of hours until he was done. Then he suddenly yells out “WHY DID THEY DO THIS”, pointing to how one area is lower then the rest.
And then he changes from ‘just work with it’ to “I can lower this whole thing if I had a wagon and some crates”. Look.. dude. Let’s worry about that AFTER I come up with an idea for this place..alright? I asked you to please map it out, not to flatten the area. He’s acting like I’m ready to move right now.
However, for some reason……the above statement I said, NEVER came to mind! I said how I have a wagon, and crates, and went to go get them. However, I thought it was just to fill this little area up. When I finally got home and asked how many crates we would need for this, he said only bring empty crates. Again, was NOT thinking of the reason he’s there (and what he’s doing for me). He also said to bring iron for nails to make more crates.
Had to utilize B2 again for this (of him taking my horses back afterwards). Went to the abandoned deed north of me and grabbed the iron ore out of the BSB there, and with B2 doing his task of getting the horses back home, I went back to the area.
Arriving, I noticed a lot of felled trees (though I had given him permission before). I assumed this is all part of leveling the place, and just went with it. He also forgot the fact I only found one horse (and the wagon needs two), he started making a large cart. It took a lot longer than his “real quick” claim, but he got it done. Gave him the horse I found so he can move around in it faster.
I’m still wondering why he only needed empty crates (except as I’m typing this is why I wondered..instead of then). Is he..thinking of tearing down the hills to get the dirt? This isn’t what I wanted. Again, let’s wait until after I figure out what goes where before we do this.
The next major thing that happened, as I was felling trees, I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t able to fell a lone pine tree until I noticed the Poison damage being done to me; I was trying to knock down the tree that has a bee hive. “Ehh, whatever.” I thought, as I remember being told before that if this happens, to not worry and it’ll pass. He said he was going to make a bee smoker to take care of the hive.
The poison went away a half an hour later. Told him about it, and then he scares the crap out of me by stating “you know that can insta kill you if you arent lucky right?” …Insta-KILL?! WHAT?! I stood there, shocked (yet trying to keep my composure), and then asked him “Even a light wound?” And he says “every healing tick it rolls a die, and if you get unlucky you die”
That’s a fantastic rhyme and all, but WHAT THE FLIPPING FUCK?! This is NOT what CA HELP told me when I had that bee hive in my deed (and tried to Open it)! I explained to him exactly what they told me, thinking “OK, this has to be BS.” Yet he claims this comes from the Wurmpedia. I…OY. Never thought of asking that chat channel about this at the time (or even looking it up). All I could think of was “hoooooooly fuuuuuuckkk” (feeling like I’m ‘the luckiest man in the world’ for not insta-dying).
He then left to go hunting for a hide while I continued felling trees. Should’ve helped him (because he’s a clothie)…but I never thought about that. Plus he never said “you wanna come with?” or “I’ll need your help”. Though as I write this, I assume he thought I was too busy to help him out.
10 minutes later, I get a PM from him..asking me to pick him up at Tap Dance(the starter deed for Cele). *facepalm* Says a hell hound got him, so I immediately stopped what I’m doing and set sail (actually thinking SMART for once). Enroute there, I see another horse (this one’s swimming). Quickly maneuver over to lasso it with the only piece of rope I had (B2 has the rest) and continued sailing to Tap Dance. Picked him up and sailed back to the area. But yay, now I have two horses, so I can finally utilize my wagon!
Getting back and parking, I offered to help him (so he can get his stuff back). Met the hell hound, and dropped it in two hits. He recovered his belongings and thanked me, and I protected him as we headed back. He wasn’t able to get the hide he requires, and mentions his alt will be coming here with a bee smoker and everything he needs (plus a mailbox for me). That’s very nice of him, I thought.
Continued with the tree-felling, and he’s trying to manually level down a small 2×2 clay mound. Ahh, clay. You just don’t FUCKING know when to FUCK OFF, do you? You’ve been a bane ever since I moved to Oceanside Retreat, and its grayness is now here at this potential new deed. It’s like a festering rash that you can’t get rid of.
His alt came and gave him the bee smoker, and now this pesky bee hive is gone! Yay. Glad Tulsi wasn’t there. Knowing him, he’ll be trying to “prod the bear” by poisoning himself to death. 😛 I did tell him in Skype, that dying has consequences (aka skill loss). I can only pray this stops him from pretending he’s Superman by trying to ‘jump’ off of one of the ramps (and failing horribly). But I doubt he’ll learn from what I said. I pray he will learn, though.
Back to the area, Saint’s alt also casted some strange spell on me(Priest alt), claiming that’ll make me move faster. I…wasn’t really seeing it. Later on, he asks me “where is that rock tile” (referencing to the only rock tile I saw of a potential mine). When I showed him, he said it wouldn’t work because it’ll be underwater (and of the angle, a cart won’t be able to enter). Hmmm. Taking the good with the bad, but that’s the point of starting a new chapter in my Wurm life, right?
The hunt for a mine was on, with me checking by land (via horseback) and him checking by sea (via his alt’s sailboat). Saw Pryath again in local, and tried to get them to disclose the location of mines they mentioned yesterday. The directions were..quite confusing and vague. The person’s telling me “there’s a mine e and s that I hit thats near a tower”..WHA–?! I get ‘e’ is ‘East’ and ‘s’ is ‘South’ but the rest is unclear. I don’t know the layout of the land that well (but with time, I will) and asked if they could possibly show me where these mines are. And thankfully, the person was willing to show me.
I followed them around, but the person was also confused of where the mines are (on this side of the lake). We met at the canal ‘turn around’ thing, and the person told me there’s mines on the other side of the lake. …Ugh. But, if that’s what I’m going to have to go through, so be it. I’ll make it work.
Managed to find two mines around the abandoned deed on the South side of the lake (one was sealed up while the other was opened (yet there was a rock wall in the way of the entrance)). The person then escorted me to the East side of the lake, and found a mine with really good quality Iron ore (nearly 80QL, which is PERFECT for getting my Blacksmithing up). The only problem…is the vein is blocking the entrance.
Still, this isn’t bad. I mentioned to the person that I could plan out a road to wrap around the lake, and the person said that I should also add a small bridge over the canal entrance. Never messed with bridges before..but HEY! New start. New chapter. Let’s TRY something NEW for a change!
At this time, Saintdouglas is PMing me stating a suggestion to put ‘your main building’ on the hill (and ‘leave the raised part there’). I kindly reminded him “that’s what the planning phase will be about”, and “All I need is to map the area.” What a really nice, polite way to say “do your damn job”, huh?! :\ I tried my best to keep my words from sounding at all like that, then he said he would call it a night and “ill be here tomorrow tho”.
And here we are. As soon as I get done publishing this post, I need to get home, load up on crates, and fill up the lower bits of the area myself. It’ll be less for him to do, and it’ll get him done faster. It’s a win-win!
I feel like we wasted a lot of time clearing the area trees (which to me felt unnecessary for just dropping dirt in places). Again, I don’t know if I really WANT this area. I have absolutely no idea how I’m going to plan, or what buildings should be built. And that thought is starting to scare me. Ok, I lied, I have a ‘few’ ideas..but nothing that would tell me “yes. Definitely move.”
.
A ‘small’ update. Got 3k of Dirt going to the area (which should be more than enough). I also grabbed the remaining rock shards I had (he mentioned he needed shards, which started the whole mine locating fiasco..well now he’ll be getting some).
Back at the area, I fixed the uneven parts. I also flatraised the spot with the single rock tile (since it’ll be part of the road). Lastly, I leveled down a section of the higher part of the area (to make it the same height as the rest of the high parts).
I can clearly see how I’m going to have the road wrapping around the future deed. I’ll also -try- to have an extender that’ll connect to the main highway (that links to the South coast) and points West). How well that extender will be placed, remains to be seen.
Pretty much, I’m ready for him to do ‘his job’ of mapping out the area for me in Deedplanner. If he needs more terraforming to be done to get a more accurate mapping, I will definitely assist with that. But really, I want him to understand, that “your job is mapping the area… mine is everything else” (without being rude and disrespectful). I actually feel I need to come on rather quickly, before he ‘helps’ me again. “Leave the planning to me, OK? I know you want to help, and I definitely respect and appreciate it, but..this is my project. The only reason why I asked you to come all the way down here is to please help me with mapping out the area in Deedplanner.”…again, without being rude/disrespectful.
