A bit of troubling gaming news to share today. Square Enix is pulling financial support from IO-Interactive (who make the popular video game series Hitman. I never played the series (even though it does look fun and I would like to), but I know several Youtubers that do.
By pulling the support, now the company will likely face bankruptcy if they don’t find another publisher. The reason for the departure, Square Enix stated in a contradicting way that they did it “to maximise player satisfaction”. Um.. last time I looked, pulling funding from a company that made such a great series, wouldn’t be “maximizing player satisfaction”. To me, that would be the exact opposite.
However, reading this article, it seems the reason for the financial cutoff wasn’t because of the Hitman series, but from IO-Interactive’s other games. Of course, this could be the writer’s guess as this came out of the blue on Twitter last night (as I was backing up my drive).
Hate to see them go, but it seems (well at least I hope) SE is doing the right thing here.
