Freedom Isle server mega-exploration trip – Exodus (Day 6)

Wow… Day 6 and I’m not even halfway done exploring the coastline on horseback. Back in Deli, this was when I had to go home as Wurm Fall was going to happen. Here, Wurm Summer is going to happen tomorrow (of the Wurm year 1064)
This day was a day of huge deeds locked up tighter than Fort Knox, plopped right on the shoreline, and sometimes having no possible way of going around it. But it also had some unbelievably amazing views (even a few cool deeds).

Continuing where I left off, looking West, I saw the Rift is now active. But it shouldn’t be a concern for me as it’s on the West coast somewhere. Continued along the road following the coast I was at, was a deed that opened it’s doors to me (literally). Stopped next to two merchants with signs next to them. They weren’t the signs that I would see around FM stating the merchant has been restocked, but trying to get me to buy their wares. Really didn’t have anything I want, though one of them had one of those somewhat rare Valrei items (named ‘Silvery Spirit’). I’ve found three of these identically-named items when going around in my boat, and sold them for 60c(20c each).
As as I was heading out of the deed, I happen to pass through a gate called “Thereddragon’s Gate”. Ohh, so there’s someone with ‘dragon’ in their name here. They even went as far as to have a house called “The Red Lair”,
Outside the deed, was a small hill of Clay. If only I could have only this much of Clay.

Exo continued to wow me as I went along the coast, namely with lots of Grape bushes. Seeing tree-free patches of grass, I like seeing. More pictures (and more photobombing mobs) later, I made it to the other side of the canal (next to Boppingtonville). Lavender-lined roads, another thing I like seeing. I also ‘had’ to kill an Aged hen for being uncooperative (of constantly shying away and interrupting my Grooming actions). Probably defective and had to be put down. 😛
Eventually (after having to run while taking pictures), I made it to ‘Skeleton Desert’ (the thing I said that should’ve been named ‘Scorpion Desert’ with so many scorps I saw before). I also stopped by a merchant selling cotton, healing covers, and Farmers Salves. No token to go by some, so I left it alone. But since leaving, I saw something in orange letters show up in my Event tab..
“You scratch yourself. What did you catch now?”
I’m now ‘Diseased’. Ohhh fuck. HOW the hell did I get this?! Didn’t seem to affect my char’s vision or anything, but I was still a bit concerned about it. Further down the road I entered a pretty nice deed named ‘Stonewall’. Heh. Named after a Priest ability. Nice. There were two people in my Local (but it turned into one named ‘Ruiner’). I was able to enter their deed.
Decided to ask for some meals (as my fat layers are low). Yep. Just barge in to a stranger’s deed and expect them to give me meals! But this person was nice, and gave me 11. I also asked them about this disease. He said you have to be in a crowded area(like 4-5 horses), or be around a mob or something that’s Diseased. Said it’ll wear off and to not worry about it.
So I thanked them for the meals and continued on. Found a bridge/landbridge combo (one of the many obstacles I had to navigate around when I was in my boat). Got some good pictures of the shoreline. Crossed both the bridge and the landbridge. As I was nearing the end, a heavy lag spike happened and I was forced to stop to allow the server to once again track my location. People in kchat started commenting shortly after, also having it happen to them. One said it’s been bad since yesterday.
With that out of the way, I turned back around and went through the person’s deed again to get back on the shoreline.
Much more beauty awaited me along the coast. Not as beautiful as Deli, but still nice.

Made it to a canal called the ‘Giants Causeway’. Had to cross an available bridge as the canal was too deep to pass by.
About 20 or so minutes after following the coast, I got a new message in my Event tab;
“You feel a lot better now as your disease is gone.”
Phew! That’s a relief. I feared it would’ve done adverse affects to my character. Glad nothing happened. Now I can go back to having ‘The mature raging angry dragonhead’ again. I reached another canal. It was shallow enough, but with a bear next to me, I had to get moving again.
Soon I stopped at a pretty area. Except further travel along the coast would be hampered by not only steep terrain, but by lots of mobs. Guard tower in the area, and I decided to tell the guards to kill lesser mobs as well as trolls. Seeing how my longsword is at 20 damage, I knew the mobs’ plan was to cause my sword to break and I would be defenseless. Those brainless AI are actually pretty smart, as they fight cheaty by “mob dies, 20 more take its place”. And that’s why I’m tired of fighting mobs. Why fight when you got a guard tower with lifeless guards ready to fight for you? It kills the mob, and protects my sword from excess damage.
This also came true when I finally was able to get back on the coast (after cutting through forests). Another guard tower here, and used it to secure the area (as Sol was going down).

Next day, it started off slow; more attempts to take pictures while dodging mobs. Half an hour later, I encountered three of those large deeds placed on the shoreline (all within about 30 tiles of eachother). One of these deeds was disbanded and slowly decaying away (yet the majority of its walls were intact).
‘Segeruby’ was in my Local, and I asked them if they know the previous owner of the first deed (as I wanted to file a complaint of blocking the shoreline). They knew the mayor; said they had RL issues and would “might be back soon”. And I told myself that bitching about this won’t work as they have every right (just like someone claiming a mountain), and I let it go.
The person then asked me if I was looking for a recent abandoned deed named ‘Banya’. Said I’m just exploring the shoreline, and asked what makes the area so special. He thought I was one of these low-life looters who steal from recent abandoned deeds. Of course I’m not. Morals, remember?
Final deed in my way, forcing me to hop off the horse and lead it past an area I had no trouble with. #Wurmfirstproblems
This also had the first wild goblin that I’ve seen since 2010. I remember having goblins invading my deed in the past. Now it’s like they’re so rare nowadays..if only trolls were. Killed this ven goblin as easy as a wolf. If only trolls were this easy to kill… :/

As Sol is slowly starting to go on its downward arc, I finally made it to the South coast! Finally.. no more inland coastlines! About 10 minutes ahead of me would be extremely annoying. Mountainside in the way. Was OK for a bit, then the horse once again refused to go any further. Saw three passive mobs, but several mobs. Tried to quickly lasso the three and run to a safer location. But as I was running away, the three animals stopped following (as they can’t swim). Back and forth I went; spiders, wolves and bears on my tail. When I was finally able to lure them away, I was only able to Groom a few of them. But due to my frustration with it all, I killed the bull that refused to be groomed. Next time, do NOT shy away and interrupt me!
The rest of the passive animals went up the hill, never to be seen again. I did eventually get by the obstacle, by having to get off the horse, lead, swim over the gap, and ride. I really needed to lure the mobs away, so I can do it safely.

Ahead of me would be.. ugh. Another very large (but empty) deed. Three people in Local this time. Tried to go up this really, really messed up road to the left of the deed. Had to lead the horse up some of it. Once up, I looked at the map. And for the first time I saw no way around this one. I had to ask if anyone would allow me to pass through the deed in order to continue following the coast. With no response, I was forced to look at it closer. Swimming along the wall was out of the question, as I would likely drown before I make it.

Got a response from ‘Jibberish’. Person said their “deed manager” is off-server, but can give me a lift to the other side of the deed. Told them that it’s not possible to lead a horse as a passenger. After being told by the person “I’ll lead the horse then”.. all I could think of is ‘Yeah, so you can steal it’ and said “I’ll just look for another way around”.

I was willing to risk drowning, than having someone else leading the horse with 2.5s attached to it. Went back down the crooked road and saw the person standing there waiting for me. Was getting ready to swim, when they showed me a rowboat. Was told to command it. So I did and we got to the other side of the deed. Thanked them for the service and moved on. The person said that other deed mayors aren’t as nice.
I said “Yeah, I know of of how ‘nice’ some people treat explorers to this server.” The person said “there’s a lot of bad groups on this server”. I asked are there any of these ‘groups’ I should watch out for. All I got was a “just deed/lock your stuff and you should be okay” answer. Well duh. I’ve known that for years.
Just when the person mentions ‘groups’, I’m thinking..what, like the mafia?

Couldn’t continue on past this point, as more horse shenanigans were going on (aka “Noooo I can’t do down that slope(even though you could as a player)!”. This had a strange mountain in the middle of being able to get there normally. It took time, but I finally was able (after much “WTF WHY AM I GOING NORTH, I NEED TO GO EAST!!!”) to navigate this mess. It took me to the other side of the ‘Giant’s Causeway’ canal. The bridge I went across before was in the distance of the canal.
Sol’s going down again, and Exo tries to make up for the horse shenanigans in the very best way possible (with more beauty). The evening glow made it even more beautiful.
Though I wasn’t done with large deeds in the way of the shoreline. The area behind it did, provide some breathtaking views of the area (including what I believe to be an overlook point of the deed). The deed wasn’t necessarily sitting on the shore perse, but the anti-visitor gates were blocking access to it.
Found a guard tower nestled in a dip behind the hill, that I used to setup camp.

The next day came. Time to figure out how to get past this deed and continue following the shoreline! When I was trying to scope out any weakness in the fences, I saw a distant phasing Colossus of Magranon having trouble trying to load itself(kept rapidly appearing and disappearing). “An illusion!? What are you hiding!?”
Soon, luck was in my favor as I somehow was able to pass by two of the high fences(with one of them completely decayed), granting me access to the coast! Crossed the one tile wide bridge here. I also saw the Exo/Cel Boat Bridge.

Past the bridge, so. much. HURTYNESS with multiple mobs here! Plus, there was a similar issue was I had before. Except someone thought it was a really good idea by completely digging up one side of this coastal road (making it impassable without swimming). Every mob in the area knew this, and boy did they not disappoint in pissing me the fuck off. Running around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to outrun these mobs..only for more to show up from the mountain here.
Though I did get a really good laugh of telling the guards to attack a ven troll (and getting another ‘Epic helper’ achievement when I didn’t assist). Hahaha!
Unfortunately the side of this mountain was laughing at me, having a huge section of it going really steep. Was a way around it (by going around the North of the mountain, and then working back down the other side).

This lead me to..quite the delightful big deed called ‘Black Pearl’. There was this section that looked like a neighborhood of player housing. Absolutely loved this RL building design. Someone named ‘Rgr’ in my Local asked “whats up?”. I said “Trying to explore the coast, with mobs at my heels. You?” Said they’re just making planks.
We talked for a bit (mainly combat-related things like trolls).
The person said they wouldn’t take on a troll unless in Plate. Told them that someone told me to get Chain. Then I mentioned I’m getting tired of combat as my gear will be needing repairing soon (and how it’ll cost a LOT of silver to do so).
The person misunderstood me, saying they’ll repair a studded set for free. I had to re-mention I’m wearing Chain; how it works as good as studded (IMO).
Eventually I waved goodbye and continued on this gorgeous alternate route around the mountain. Also, the way up to the mountain is blocked off. But that’s not where I’m going.
Reached the South road. But at the end I got stopped again of an asshole blocking access to the coast(using a deed)! Managed to work around this.

I made it to ‘The Badlands’ (and the Southeast side of the server) by crossing a bridge. I’m no longer going to go on these interior shorelines. I should’ve been done with this server by now (as I was done with Deli at this time). But, at least I’m glad I didn’t give up, I didn’t give in. I’m going to reach the end, and start again (on Celebration)! *Yes, I totally didn’t steal that from ‘Try Everything’ of Zootopia*
“Explore Everything!”

Erm. Where was I? Yes. More beauty from The Badlands. Completely tree-less. Total beauty (and great hunting potential). The freedom of being able to go anywhere. So awesome.
Passing that, I’m now passing by ‘Hell Horse Harbor’. Nice deed name. There was a guard tower kindly placed here, and I used it to keep any mob off me. Again I got the ‘Epic helper’ achievement from a troll dying to the guards. Discovered this mini-achievement is only if you’re killing mobs that a specific God wants you to(even if you don’t lay a claw on the mob).
Next up was this quite interesting deed design of ‘Babylon’. Mainly of a wooden bridge connecting to two distant buildings (and wooden bridges all over the place of this deed).

I’m now on the East coast, approaching another asshole deed in the way (and even more assaholic mobs keeping me from thinking of my options). Small arch bridge here. Access blocked to the deed. Rare guard tower on one side offered a safe haven as Sol’s setting (had to swim to it while leading the horse).

Next day, the only way past this dick move is going back to the SE side of the server, and going around the mountain here. I was almost forced to go with this, until I saw how little my Stamina was being used when swimming (and climbing). I decided to risk it, and the gamble paid off. I also saw a venerability in the security of the deed (missing wall, and squeezed through it). After being chased by a surprise wolf, this place has disbanded and is slowly decaying away. Quite the questionable names of this place; a building called ‘Crack Mansion’, and the four cardinal towers were named questionably. Nothing really Rated X, thankfully (just PG-13 stuff).

I found another hole in the walls and was able to leave the abandoned deed. Victory! Went over to these two islands accessible by bridge, and saw the army of Knarrs I mentioned on Day 1. Geeze, the person that built all of these..it must’ve taken them YEARS. Mind-blowing. Almost like these things were once used to assault a place over at the Chaos server (and its sub-servers).
Left these islands and went back to the mainland, following a road going inland (as it was going around a mountain edge). This…this lead me to..best way to explain it? Jaw-dropping beauty of a deed. THIS was the “HOLY FUCK I can’t wait to go here on horseback” deed! So stunning. Everything was falling into place.
Possibly the so fucking COOL aspect, was this 1×2 fishing shack (yet they call it their ‘Boathouse’) sitting on the river. Oh my gosh. I’m in heaven. The bridges. The bushes. The trees. So perfect. The only thing missing are waterfalls (which sadly will never be a thing in Wurm, as water will always be at sea level).

As I’m leaving the delightful area, the mayor of the place logged on. The person was quite modest after I said “I absolutely, positively… LOVE your deed!” by saying “oh thanks”. Awkward!
From here, the number of deeds I’m encountering is slowly increasing as I’m slowly approaching the Northeast coast. Passed through ‘Fort Froyan’, another deed sitting on the coast. Except this one was a nice deed and allowed me to pass through. I also got to see the inside of the ‘White Dragon Church’. The exterior was just a placeholder, as the interior is heavily under construction.
Heading for the exit, the mayor (or one of their villagers) has been collecting Valrei items (and putting two of them on display). One was called ‘Ornamented Token’. And the other was called ‘Shiny Crystal’. Through the gate was a crock and a spider that I got a nearby guard tower to keep them distracted to allow me to pass by.

‘Deathclaw Harbor’ was the next deed. Wolf near one of the gates of this deed. Decided to call for guards, and one came out of the gate and got it off me. 🙂
Passed by a large, flat area with three visible guard towers. Lots of dead mobs indicate the guards have been working overtime. And here, is when I was ONE GROOM AWAY from getting 20 in Animal Husbandry!
About 10 minutes later as I’m getting ready to pass by an abandoned coastal deed, I got it from a Sheep! WOO!! 😀 Yet when I tried to view my first trait of the horse I’m riding, I didn’t see anything new. Maybe you have to be 20.10 or 20.50 in AH to see it? *shrug*

Continued to follow the coast as normal. On one side I saw the corpses of four brown bears, a crock, and a troll. I soon entered one of the two ‘POTENTIAL deed moving spot’ areas I marked on the map. There was a new sailboat here (named ‘New Hope’) that I didn’t see before. No damage on this one. Possible this could either be the former mayor or someone else thinking of claiming the area. Well, they can have it.
Entered another area close by, with a guard tower and lots of dead mobs. Lots of passive mobs too that I helped myself with Grooming them all. They didn’t cause me too many issues with shying away and interrupting me. There was a lone wolf stalking in the forest. I gave it something else to fight instead of myself via a few tower guards. 🙂

And here’s where things went from calm, to freakin’ awesome. Well, except another mountain in the way. But the mountain was able to allow me to access a pretty awesome bridge. And with Skyrim’s theme song playing in Pandora (as I often listen to the service while doing this)… it felt like Exo’s last attempt to make me reconsider moving here. And holy fuck did it not disappoint. Watching an island in this bay go past me as I’m riding on this very long two-tile wide bridge.
Well done, Exo. You earned my respect back. If only your community cared as much for explorers visiting you as they do of making you beautiful.
This bridge could had taken me closer to the Northeast coast (and to my boat), but I decided to leave it and follow the coast (plus I wanted to get some breathtaking views of said bridge). Though, taking the bridge would’ve been the better idea (as getting around two large deeds on the coast, proved to be challenging). More doors and walls in the way. One time I had to swim around one of the walls. Nearly lost my horse as the wall was in the way (and there’s no way to tell the horse to stay close to me when I lead it).
There was also a lot of people in my Local. But when I tried to say hey to them all, I got no response. See what I mean? I get a few people might’ve been AFK, but there were at least 10 people here. Surely someone wasn’t busy enough to say hi. But no one did. Got the cold shoulder.

I got past ‘Shagsville’ (via the ‘Shagsville Bypass’ bridge here. Then I started to get lost as Sol’s going down for the final time this day. I knew I needed to find a guard tower, but never saw one. I did get some pictures of that long bridge, though.
Lamps were turning on and I still didn’t find a tower. Started to get worried. I can’t just drop down a tent with all of these deeds around.
Found a guard tower in the distance of the desert. Didn’t know this was the southern half of ‘The Great Northern Desert’. Set up camp kind of near this tower (as it was sitting on a deed). No mobs on this side of the desert except for a lone rat. Told the guards to deal with it, incase it decided to come over here and cause an issue.

And that’s Day 6. A lot to say, yet again a lot to not say as the majority of it was just running around on the coast.
