Most of the day, I wasn’t on due to RL issues. Sol sets 10 minutes before I had to get up to Burger King (4pm my time). Typically I eat at 6, but when out, I need to get home before night (because Winter and the sun sets around 5:30).
Anyway, I’m now halfway done with going around the server on horseback. Currently typing from a place called ‘Port Torus’, having found a safehouse here (on the West side of the eastern bay of Deli). Also, I forgot that B2 has his own bank within my deed, and was able to mail my sword/shield and chain armor cross-server to me. And now I’ve been getting some sweet revenge on several mobs.
It also turned into, what I would say the best day in my Wurm life (as I managed to get to the very tip-top of a mountain.. and wanted to spread my non-existent wings and fly off of it(without falling like a rock down the mountain)).
Continued much later in the day (as I said.. oh, and I’ve also been….. playing another game! *GASP*) back at the house I logged for the night and continued to make my way along the West coast, only to be turned back around and had to head into the eastern bay (as there was no roads beyond it). Went into a town named ‘Foxmont’. Quite nice little town here. The owner’s house as pretty good as well.
Finally made it back to the West coast and continued to follow it until I eventually wound up on the Southern Coast.
Had to do a few unconventional ways of getting around the coast’s many obstacles (dismounting and leading the horse through uneven terrain, such as the side of a rocky hill).
Was one time where there was this troll, a wolf, and a bear. The troll was a vern, so I felt no way am I going to risk it. Waited it out, waiting for the troll to run further up the hill. Instead, it got closer and closer to me (is if it was showing it’s trollface).
The troll eventually got close enough to aggro and started running after me. Benny Hill theme GO! Running back and forth, back and forth of this grassy area trying to keep the troll from smacking me with that club. Finally I tried an idea to lead the troll (and the wolf also after me) far enough from the hill edge, and then made a mad dash for it. It worked and I was able to escape! That, was close.
After escaping what felt like a demented version of The Cat in The Hat (aka the mob spawning system of Wurm), ‘introducing’ me to “Pain 1″(the troll) and “Pain 2″(the bear), and to “pick my poison”, things were pretty calm for a good chunk of exploring the coast. Even decided to check out this pretty interesting deed called “Szegvar”. What made it cool is the way the deed was laid out. It looked well-organized (based around a single three-lane highway (with trees in the middle), compared to other deeds I’ve seen. It even had a proper farm(2×10 plots, connected with thatch fences, and even properly named). Whoever the owners of this deed are.. DAMN good job!
So I decided to check out kchat to see what the locals were up to (while I continued to explore this fancy deed), and I saw a familiar name there who was pleading for help; Elvenwing. That same person that gave me a cold welcome back at Ghost’s place on Indy, was having some major issues with mobs. Apparently I’m not alone of being caught off-guard not expecting a fuck ton of pain to be here. Said he died 8 times and was losing most off his 90+ skills.
In the words of Illidan, “YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!” Funny how I laugh when the shoe is on the other foot (instead of having fingers pointing at me, going “HA-HA!!”). At least I have a high QL compass with me at all times when I go exploring (it’s literally a requirement in this game), where he says he was so lost and stuff (nothing about being lost with the map).
This also made me think. I remembered B2 using his own bank money(which is more than I have) to fund the deed upkeep (when I played as him to check on the deed), so it should be OK to go on and mail my gear cross-server. I then asked if the shield can be mailed in CA CHAT. It seems they’re getting annoyed by me asking “can X be mailed” (yet don’t blame me, when there’s no updated list on the wiki of what can/not be mailed).
Started looking for a mailbox, then I would get on B2 and deliver my gear to me. Wanted to find a high cast [[90] or higher) on it. Yet when I come back to think about this, worrying about the cast wasn’t needed (as it only affects the speed of the sender, not the receiver). Yet I was convinced I had to find a good one. Kept looking through several deeds, until I found one at the semi-active deed with an always-AFK owner.. I made my way back to ‘Dragon Shores’. And again, “Dragonshores” never responded to me. Ehh, whatever. Maybe it only speaks through Draconic (or Swedish), but I refused to embarrass myself by doing that.
Anyway, this ‘village'(from what I saw, it’s only a house for such a big deed area) had a red mailbox with an ‘[89]’ level cast. Was close enough to what I needed.
Tested out mailing cross-server by sending my longsword/shield first. Took close to 9 minutes, and it worked! B2 then mailed my chain set (using the same backpack I was given when they were mailed to me after they were made).
Finally got it as Sol is dipping below the horizon three minutes earlier than I had timed it. Guess I can’t factor in server lag.
Anyway, ARMORED UP, baby! It’s time to make these assholes PAY for making me run like a pussy! ):D First time I wore the new chain armor as well. Perfect time for a field test. And that test came pretty quickly in the form of a wolf as I was going back to Southport. It works wonders. Would say that this could be better than my studded leather set.
Finally arrived in Southport (I had passed it earlier, but Muse was AFK. Still was when I got back).
.
Missed the Solrise by 5 minutes (as I was pretty engaged to this new game), but it’s all good (as it looked like the sky was just waking up). Passed Dragon Shores and started going up the west side of the East bay(so I’m now approaching the SE corner of the server). This had me cutting through grassland and other areas that didn’t have a road to continue to follow the coast. Oh, and I killed my first crab! Pretty happy with that. Never seen a crab in Indy, which is a shock.
Also, I believe this bay is named “Serendipity Bay”, going by the name of the long arch bridge spanning the two sides of the bay (which means “finding something good without looking for it” in the Wikipedia(not Wurm’s)). And I have to agree there.
Going around the shore to the north side of the bay, I had to once again run from trolls along a rock hill. If only one of them was an adol or a young troll, then I could see if my FS is high enough to deal with them. But, gotta run from things you can’t kill(unless you wanna be the victim).
Managed to get a slightly closer look at this ‘Witcher school’ on the NE side of the bay I mentioned before, and honestly..it’s not that good. Still, the marble/slab roads around it were pretty good.
Now on the East side of the bay, I needed to find a way to get across this player-created river over to this large’ish Steppe area (and near where I threw down the ‘potential’ thing). I could see a bridge crossing it, but I had to go through a town in the way to do so. Got me a bit lost and had to deal with a few spiders, but nothing I couldn’t handle (with gear).
Made it to the bridge. Saw a hell horse staring at me, but from experience of seeing them in The Grand Steppe, they will only attack if you annoy them by being around them too much. Had a vern troll on the other side of the bridge, that refused to cooperate with me of going back across and have some fun with a guard tower. 😛
Somehow the troll got bugged and stopped trying to chase after me. But I also had to deal with a rat that thought it would have an easy kill of me. Took care of it pretty quickly.
Seeing how I was now in this large’ish Steppe area (that’s four times the size of the one near my deed, but smaller than The Grand Steppe), I did some classic hunting as Sol started to slowly set. I raped every mob that wasn’t a troll. Revenge is a BITCH, ain’t it, mobs?! Maybe you dumb fucks should’ve thought about that before I got n00b trapped left and right!!
So I knew I was running out of time as it got darker and darker by the minute. Managed to make it to where I had marked as a potential spot.. and it’s a LOT bigger than I thought. Now… I’m not so sure. I also found out this used to be the harbor of a deed to the East of me (which also disbanded).
This time I wanted to make sure I checked the mine, and it’s a good thing I waited ’till I was on horseback (and got my gear). Lots of mobs in it. Some lava fiends, spiders, a hellhound. The mine is HUGE. I would say about the same size as the mine to the north of me back at my deed. If only I had my pickaxe, then I could’ve seen the quality of the ore. Saw lots of iron (probably marble as well, with it being this far south). Sadly I couldn’t explore all of the mine as there was a troll that chased me out of it. That just shows how abandoned the place was.
As I emerged back into what light was left in the sky, I saw a Knarr pass by me going West (with two people in it). I tried to ask if this area was available (as in, if the owner doesn’t come back and re-claim it). But they just kept sailing away until they dropped out of local. I thought “well fuck you too, then”.
At this time, I knew I needed to find a safehouse (as it was entering nighttime with Sol fully down). Did my best to follow the East roads, using my lantern to light the way. Had more and more mobs breathing down my neck to deal with. Had to go up this winding inclining path, dealing with spiders, bears, and wolves on the way up. Night eventually fell, and I knew I was in trouble. Running on a one tile road, in a thick forest, in the dark. So. much. FUN!!
I made my way back to that long bridge and decided to cross over to the West side, hoping for any refuge from the night. Finally found a nice place, and that’s when I started writing all of this.
.
The next Sol day showed on schedule. After discovering my 5-speed horse is suddenly acting like a 4-speed while trying to run away from a surprise crock, I went back across the bridge and tried to continue around to the SE corner of the server. Discovered a canal (called the ‘Eridanus Boat Tunnel’) I didn’t go through when I explored by boat, though thankfully it’s accessible by foot. At the end of the tunnel, there was a troll. Yet it didn’t want to come out of the tunnel (as there was a guard tower nearby). Ran back into the tunnel. Managed to outrun the troll. Killed a mountain lion in the tunnel.
Continuing further south (and going around walls of deeds), I made it to Yaga’s place. Any further was impossible, as the SE corner is as mountain. The only option was an east road. Went up it, then stopped short of a sign pointing in a cave to my left saying “Passage to Dragontooth Peak”. ‘Dragontooth Peak’? It sounds like a cheap knock-off of Dragonfang Mountain. Still, adventure!! I went into the mine.
The way up was very, very hard. I would say there was three trolls, several spiders (some even lava spiders), two lava fiends, and a crab in a lemon tree. The first troll I encountered, was a Mature troll. After much hesitation, knowing I was low on personal resources, I went in to deal with the troll. I had it on Bleeding when my health bar went half, and ran out of there. Once again I cringed to see the wounds. Yet when I looked.. I was, shocked. NO MEDIUMS!! The chain armor IS WORKING!! 😀
Killed my first troll. Wanted to throw a party right then and there.
Went back into the mine, hoping for no more surprises. Yet there was another troll. Vern one. Back out of the mine I go!
Tried to lead it out of the mine, but kt kept refusing; literally trolling me. As I persisted, another troll shows up behind me. This is an Adol troll, so I fought this thing, and survived no problem! Two dead trolls from my blade. FEAR ME!!!
Went back to try to lead the Vern troll out of the mine, and finally it worked. Kited it back down this road and over to an awaiting guard tower, then dove into a safe house for the troll to drop aggro..but I forgot trolls can open doors. FUUU— still managed for the guards to deal with it. Now there’s three dead.
Went back up and into the mine, and fought my way up. So many spiders, but I finally reached the end of the tunnel.
It didn’t really feel like it paid off. More spiders, trolls, and hellhounds to deal with. Thankfully there was a guard tower up here. After wandering around this area, I stumbled on a mine door that opened up, with a tunnel going up even higher. I looked up and saw a house on a high peak. Freaked out with joy and went up the path. More spiders awaited me, and all taken care of.
THIS…paid off. 360* view from the SE coast. I could see..EVERYTHING!! EVEN the fucking server borders! It was NUTS! There was a house up here. Three floors, hardly any walls, offering an even better vista. I decided to risk hopping off the horse and ran up all of these stairs in hopes of taking my pictures and making it back down before the horse decided to wander off the mountain.
And.. my god. From there, I felt that fear of heights. No fences to hold me back. I felt like…I felt like just, spreading my wings and glide off the side of the mountain.
Unfortunately, I’m still mortal and would drop like a rock, breaking every bone in my body of that sudden stop at the end. But the view, I feel made up for the disappointing view of Dragonfang Mountain (how I couldn’t get up to the peak).
As much as I wanted to just log off right here and complete this post, without being able to put a saddle on the horse to keep it from wandering (couldn’t even use my tent as I was in a deed), I had to go back down to the summit and find a safehouse. Found one in a strange spot that had a bridge on an inaccessible second floor, connecting to another place next to the edge of the mountain. Decided to check out this, and I should had stayed where I was. Troll decided to pop in with me. Had to run back out. Spiders (and even a crock) also gave chase. Got guards from the guard tower I mentioned before on the troll, and managed to get the crock off me, allowing me to deal with the spiders. With them all dead (including a 3rd one that came from the side of the mountain), and the troll now dead, I told the guards to deal with the crock. Now everything’s dead. Butchered/Buried everything, and then logged off in one of the houses.
What an awesome way to end the day. This server sure has a lot going for it. Sadly, today will be a repeat delayed day (infact possibly delayed even more) as I got more RL issues to deal with. Sorry.
