Christmas Day in Wurm
The plan continued exactly as planned. The only change was… I couldn’t even get to 27 Strength. However, I got two rare and a supreme rock shard. Those are going to go into future projects back home (if I can think of them).
At the Impalong, the lamps I made the day before were slowly getting imped. While that was happening, B2 started suddenly hearing the sounds of spiders close by. One of the people there reacted. Upon closer inspection, there were a shitload more than just one spider. It was the 12 Mobs of Christmas.
There were bears, cave bugs, wolves, spiders, lava fiends, crocodiles, rats, trolls, goblins.. all sorts of baddies. Each one was named after one of the 12 Days of Christmas. Obviously, this had to have been spawned in by a GM. And it wasn’t any GM; it was the head GM, Enki. It was NUTS!! I loved it! This brings back memories of “Happy holidays hug zombie” in 2010.
This is the list of what they were called, based from the song;
1. Black wolf = “partridge in a pear tree”
2. Greenish wolf = “turtle doves”
3. Champ Troll = “french hens”
4. Lava fiend = “calling birds”
5. Champ Goblin = “golden rings”
6. Champ Large rat = “geese a laying”
7. ??? = “swans a swimming” (never saw the mob. I would assume it would be a hell hound)
8. Champ Huge spider = “maids a milking”
9. Champ Cave bug = “ladies dancing”
10. Crocodile = “lords a leaping”
11. Anaconda = “pipers piping”
12. Bear (“angry” trait) = “drummers drumming”
It took about 30-45 minutes until all the mobs were dead. Suffered a few player casualties. B2 tried to get a closer look (using my large cart) as the chaos was starting to slow down. Got attacked by one of the crocks out of nowhere. He survived with only two Light wounds, thankfully.
After the chaos ended and the hilariously-named mob corpses were butchered/buried, Perodin (one of the Chat Moderators) started offering her services of making any statue (out of marble) as something to take home. Had B2 ask for a ‘statue of horse’ (as I could plant it right in the middle of the farm back home).
Back in the public mine outside of FM, I was getting fed up of not getting Strength up. I’m not saying I’m giving up, I’m saying it’s just not that important (and it really isn’t). So I took the valuable rare/supreme shards with me, back to the boat and set sail back to the Impalong. The wind wasn’t in my favor, in any direction(light breeze from the east). But I got to see the speed of a Knarr without wind for the first time. It’s not anywhere as bad as a Cog with no wind. I really didn’t have that many complaints, mainly the fact I can row the boat while dealing with winds like this.
Back at the Impalong (micro-freezing all the way), I had B2 ready the large cart and get it over to the statues. But when I tried to load it.. “This will be very bad for your karma and is disallowed on this server.” *facepalm*
I had to get William, the host of this thing (and thankfully also the deed owner) to help me and B2. Instead of giving me temp perms, he loads the statue into his cart and takes it to my boat.. making me question why I even brought the cart.
Anyway, I managed to load it into my Knarr with no problem.
After that, I told B2 to go to FM and eat at the buffet; felt he deserved it and he did. A bit halfway, he had to come back as more lamps that he placed in, only he could get out due to permissions. He came back and grabbed them. I took over after that and he went back out to sea and made it to FM.
Some time later, one of the two remaining lamps was imped as high as they’ll allow it. I took it out (as I put them in, so there wasn’t a problem this time). I decided it was time to give them the gem I mined from my mine a few months ago.
I told William where I could place it. He’s all “you should keep it”. I said that I insisted, and he said it’s because there’s no enchanters at the moment, and he would have no need.
Then he starts asking me if I received a “Goody Bag”. I told him no, and that I never heard of it. So he gives me one, and I gave him the gem as he finally realized I wasn’t going to take “no” as an answer. It was for the Impalong as a ‘thank you’ from me and B2.
I received a cauldron. Inside was an assortment of stuff; a hammer, a gem(wow…), some cotton, and a hefty lump of rare iron ore. The rare lump I can definitely use back home. It would only be for imping, though. Good QL too.
Anyway, it also had a key. He said that it could unlock a box that has a ‘grand prize’ inside. Sadly, the key didn’t work for me. Debating if I should just throw it away or keep it as a memento.
Before it turned 6pm, I had my alt come back to the Impalong and have him watch over the remaining lamp as they’re taking their sweet time imping it. 😛
The plan was to take my large cart up to FM, load up of all the shards I mined and then head home, leaving B2 there at the Impalong until he got the lamp and then headed home himself.
But I didn’t do that plan. I just couldn’t do that to him. Instead, I decided to stay and told B2 to go home with the remaining lamps. Screw the shards. If I need shards, I got my own mine to get them from. Though they also have Marble cave walls in the public mine, which I could use…
It’s a good thing I did. Enki struck again, releasing an “Aged champion teaser”; a champ wild cat. William pwn’d it all by himself. Here I felt ready to take on anything (being on horseback and having gear). Yet William warned me that Enki would see it as a challenge…. I stopped talking after that. :/
As I waited for my final lamp to very.. very slowly imp, someone nudged me in the elbow and said how my armor is driving her insane that they can’t imp it. I’m thinking “Uhh.. what? You really want to imp my gear? Uhh, OK, sure!” and took off all my armor, then went to the area where leather imping was and placed it in one of the coffins there.
Told the person where I dropped it, and she was thrilled and ran over to get to work. She wants to imp my armor? Be my guest! 🙂
10 minutes later, Round 2 of Enki’s spawning madness began. I was only armed with my sword and shield (and my horse). I felt like “bring it on!” and ran into the battlefield.. though I wish I didn’t. Hoards of lava fiends!
The battle went on for 20 minutes. About 3-4 times I had to run back to the imping area and heal as I was critically injured (8% health at times). There was even this one time where I thought I was fucked. Suddenly, all of my wounds disappeared.
At the end of the battle, Enki spawned roosters. For the love of GOD, Enki.. have you lost your MIND?! 😀
They were roosters that don’t attack you, but you can attack them (and they’re even more pitiful in fighting than I am).
Enki showed up shortly after. We all thanked him for the fun. He left us a few “parting gifts” before he left; a pair of black bears that were quickly killed off.
After that, I decided to let them imp my sword and shield (since I’m here). Also I found out tomorrow’s the last day of the Impalong. However, William feels it’ll be a slow day due to people able to get out of the house and shop again.
.
Overall, as messed up as my plan was (due to my own laziness, and not monitoring the weather forecast)… I actually enjoyed Impalong/Wurmxmas 2015. Christmas Day was probably better than Christmas Eve. Because now I feel I have a new respect for these impers. I originally saw them as nothing but “WOOT! Free imps!”, but they’re actually there for themselves; to help eachother level up their skills.
Because of this, I really want to actually contribute to next year’s Impalong, instead of being someone waiting for their stuff to be imped; actually HELP with the imping for once.
With my mining skill almost 50, in the future I could possibly help to give them 70QL lumps. I want to no longer be a burden, but an asset to future Impalongs. I want to be a someone in Wurm, and actually be called “DH” instead of “dragon”.
As to what I’m going to do after all of this is over, and January 2016 arrives? I still want to explore the other servers. But I also need to focus on getting my fight skill up. I got to be able to defend myself in lands unknown to me.
I actually do hope I run into angry one of these days, while in my travels. Just to let him know I still care about this game. It was the memories, back in 2010 and years past that brought me back. And hopefully, new memories (exploring new worlds and fighting mobs like MD did) will keep me here.
The only thing I didn’t like about the Impalong, was the insane micro-freezing. Maybe I really do need more RAM. I noticed the same issue with Space Engineers. Yet this was also coupled with low framerate.
My computer doesn’t like me being able to run two instances of Wurm Online, in that area. At home, it’s perfectly fine. Sailing around, it’s perfectly fine. It was only in that one area. Yet…, no one was complaining. That really disturbed me. That proves it’s my computer and not the game.

Steam HACKED?!?! :O
On the flip-side of this active day, bad things were happening on Steam (that still aren’t explained exactly what happened). Somehow, hackers managed to get in Steam and were able to switch the account names of people with other accounts.
Some say there was no “hack”; that Steam just got DDoS’d. Others have proof that Steam was hacked. Yet it still isn’t clear what they were after. Passwords? Credit card info?
What the scary thing is, I’ve been logged into Steam all day and haven’t noticed a problem. I didn’t go anywhere on it. Yet I also cannot login to my info page. Claims the servers are having issues.
I’ve decided to log out of Steam for the time being, hoping they fix whatever the hell happened (and also explain it). Though I am worried that when I boot my computer up tomorrow, I might not be able to login. That’s when I’m really going to start panicking.
