Ba ha-ha-ha… right! Infinite Popcorn Dispensers are at the door! With FREE butter!
So, I wasn’t there to hear the Q2 “earnings” for Blizzard-Activision. But heelz was, and the news is both good.. and sad at the same time.
WoW has gone down to 5.6 million subscribers. The WoW Token did NOT help Blizzard! 😀
Though I don’t know if to cheer, or be depressed. I guess it’s a mixture of both. Still like WoW for what it was. Met some nice people and nice guilds. Learned what MMORPGs really are. What mounts are. Learned so much from WoW. Not even my years in TSO were like this.
And I’m also hearing, that this sub loss is lower of the time that I had joined WoW (which was late in 2005) when we were in Vanilla. That… that’s really insane. That’s also sad at the same time. I..really don’t know what to say. Except.. Blizzard deserves this.
They do deserve this loss. They need to feel the hell we went through, mindlessly grinding Apexis Crystals as a form of soloable endgame content.
And what’s really bad.. they lied about themselves getting “bumper profits”. It was all to please the stockholders, and another way to trick people in giving them more money (via the WoW Token). They’ve turned into EA. But why? Because they never gave a flying fuck about you, and the rest of their playerbase.
Everyone saw the sub loss since Cata (which is when Activision joined Blizzard). I personally, never bitched (that much). With MoP and most were all “WTF PANDAS?!?!”, I didn’t care. I absolutely loved the expansion. Yet subs dropped.
Then WoD was unveiled. The Warcraft 3 lore nerds were getting boners, and it really raised sub numbers. Now… now it’s lower than when I had joined WoW.
All they cared for anymore is “hey, could you make us even more rich? Doesn’t mean we’ll actually do anything! We’ll just keep shitting out expansions, and you’ll buy them! Because that’s just how gullible you are!”
Not anymore. You lost my trust a year ago. And that lost trust was so bad, I lost faith in all gaming companies. I… I now know what it means to give into hype. And even when I think about it, it makes me upset. Hype is a dangerous thing. It’s like what you feel is a good drug then find out you have to go to the hospital to get it pumped out.
Never… give into hype. NEVER!! Don’t make the same fucking mistake I made! There is no such thing as “the perfect game”. It can never exist.
Who’s going to be the next one that just stops giving a fuck about their players and more about their money? Ubisoft? Square Enix? Bethesda? SCS Software? ID Software? It could be any one of them.
As long as Activision lives, more great companies will go down the shitter.
And the next expansion? Fuck no, I’m not getting it. They claim WoD is “done”. They claim, we’ll be contended with sub-standard content for a good year. Fuck Patch 6.3. Fuck having any hope to bring back your playerbase. You just don’t give a fuck anymore. But you sure as hell love our money.
The only way… they will ever gain my trust is if what was mentioned in Gamescon, stays there through BlizzCon to the release. No more cut content. No more sub-standard content. Actually have a fucking POINT to reach the level cap (and I don’t mean twiddling my thumbs in an NPC town that is claimed to be mine and have a title I don’t deserve).
You can turn this around, Blizzard. Don’t make Legion a pile of fel shit. I still remember when I was told how they “don’t like cutting content” in Twitter. If they really don’t like it, then DON’T DO IT! And if you do, fucking replace it with a good alternative. And I DON’T mean more fucking Apexis Crystal grinds!!
Of course, the Q3 earnings are right around the corner. If Blizzard doesn’t recover their sub losses by then… it’s pretty much game over for the titan of MMORPGs. Might as well cancel this expansion and put the final nail into the coffin. Personally, I feel this is best. As they say, nothing lasts forever.
