Valiant Hearts: The Great War – It really never changes

I was expecting an uplifting CoD-style game of teabagging enemies and using racist slurs to further make the Internet an unwelcomed place.
Instead, I find myself re-enacting a part of one of Europe’s worst eras in history. The Great War of the early 20th century (that the US never really played a part of). This great war happened between 1914 and 1918 (before World War 1).

This game re-enacts the great war between France and Germany(and we all know Germany are the ‘bad guys’). You play as Emile, who his oldest son has been deported. A week later, you get a draft to get yourself into the French Army.
As soon as you complete your basic training, you’re off to war. Eventually, you will get help via an awesome dog, a combat nurse, and an American who’s willing to help the French win the war.

My favorite parts of the game so far, are when

the dog is saved by the American. I actually welled up in tears of joy

, and

the scene of having the music hilariously synced to getting bombed when doing one of those “dodge these” types of minigames. Whenever a beat happens, a bomb fell. The more beats, the more bombs.

So if you like games that re-enact wars (in a side scroller world), this game is for you. If not, then.. there are other games.
This will really pull your heart strings at times, of what these brave men who go beyond the call of duty have gone through. And would even give respect for the ones fighting for our freedom.
