Spent some of the day on VRChat (while watching WurmClock, wanting to do this in the early hours of the morning). With 0300 hitting, I closed VRChat out and got in Wurm. Decided to groom everyone while continuing to wait for Sol to rise.
Morning eventually broke, put Emilkiss back in the cage and loaded it into my Knarr.

So here is what I’ve learned about the cage (completely);
Good things…
-Can be used to ship an animal from your deed, to another server.
-Can be used to ship a purchased animal (that you bought on another server) to your deed.
-Can be used to move good animals between servers (when moving to a new server).
-Can be used to ship leadable animals that cannot swim (eg: bison).
-Traits transfer for ridable animals with traits (horse/hell horse/bison).
-The cage keeps its permission settings cross-server (even on someone’s deed), similar to a vehicle (boat/cart).

Bad things…
-Animal permissions don’t transfer between servers (no (that I’d hoped to see) “It has been branded by and belongs to the settlement of {deed name} in {server name}”), making the horse have the same mechanics as a wild horse.
-Cannot be renamed (even while tamed) while on another server (because no permissions). You have to ship it back to your deed to rename it.

I was really hoping to see some kind of nametag (or a special kind of branding) that you could attach to the horse, that would show the above info (the deed name, and what server it came from). Maybe it’ll come in a future update… but I’m not going to hold my breath.
And because of what happened at Green Dog (how it was night, and I was scared that if I logged out, someone would steal the horse (because of no permissions)), I went home. I also got to see the creature crate works just like a vehicle (of keeping its permissions), even on a deed. At least something works in my favor.
—
I then wrote a new post on the forum (about all of this), as a suggestion, and headed home. As you can see from it, I got a single response claiming it’ll “only cost 10s a month” to do this (to put a deed on every server in the game, including the PvP ones of Chaos), yet the person isn’t factoring in the initial founding cost (which I was told is 4s and 21c). Since there’s 7 PvE servers (that I would only go to), it would cost me a whopping 25s and 44c in total (which would be more expensive than my rare 2H axe), and doesn’t include my current deed.
25s. Just rub that into your mind, with how unpredictable the Euro to USD conversion rate is. This could be upwards of $50 coming out of my pocket, for ingame currency. And this doesn’t include the 6s I would have to come up in two months from the date they’re founded (plus more to cover the upkeep of my current deed).
Also, what in the hell do I name them? ‘Dragontail Hideaway Horse Park’? And wouldn’t people question why I’m suddenly founding a deed on every server? It would feel like a fucking embarrassment, all because I want to explore on horseback (with my own horse), without fear of having it stolen by another player.
Sure, there’s also the safer means of finding a guard tower on the side of a road and dropping my tent down (and hitching the horse to it) to prevent theft. This would even work (and counter most of my bickering), if I was allowed to put my tent down in someone’s deed. But this is currently not possible, as you can’t even put the tent down in the fucking perimeter.

There’s also a final thing that keeps eating at me– unrelated to this BS (and I made a second forum post about this in the forum of a question). I need to get a 5-speed female (and then ‘euthanize’ all of the horses that I believe to be 2-speed or below). I would have a higher chance of getting a 5-speed offspring, that I can use as my cross-server exploration horse.
I also desperately need to work on my Animal Husbandry, as I’m one skill point away from checking if a horse is a 5-speed (though without knowing of any possible speed penalties that are very important to know). Because I want to have a purebred 5-speed, with no negative traits.

And that’s about it. Saying “I’m not going to explore until the devs do what I want, because I’m a special snowflake and my opinion matters”, is childish. I’ll do my best to work around these issues, starting with culling my horse herd a bit and then purchasing a 5-speed female (while also working on grinding AH).

.
EDIT: The trait check has been completed by War, which has surprising results.
First off, the majority of my bred horses are 2-speed. And its to be expected when you breed a 5-speed with a wild horse (that has no traits).
The surprising results, are none of them (even the diseased one) have any neutral or negative traits. So that means, the conditions of the deed are quite ideal for breeding. Though I thought for sure some of them would’ve had the “It looks constantly hungry” trait (which would explain why grass is being eaten faster than I remember when living on OR).

Personal testing has resumed today.
