But what would be more upsetting to loose than a bunch of 1’s and 0’s that took the form of a dragon in a video game? RL losses, of course. Losing a loved one. Losing a beloved pet; it really takes its toll on your heart.
Yet what if that beloved thing wasn’t a person, wasn’t an animal.. hell, wasn’t even alive? For that beloved thing, is an electronic device, sitting on my computer table that I turn on every day after eating breakfast (of cereal and OJ(my kind of coffee by the way)), and do these very blog posts on, or play games on.

That thing would be my computer. And on the 30th….the thing wouldn’t go into POST Boot. I turn it on, the blue hard drive activity light on my Antec 900 tower would stay on and blink for a few moments….and then it stops when my monitors turn on. And it just sits there, and sits there, and sits there.. not blinking.
I am fucking losing my mind, as to be expected. The only thing that makes me…me, is refusing to boot!! Thankfully, I fixed it by unplugging the power and plugging it back in (with the computer switched off of course), and that made it go through POST and complete its boot cycle, all the way to launching Windows.
The reason why I’m posting this, is it just happened about 5 minutes ago. Same fucking thing; refused to go into POST. This time, unplugging the power did NOT help..

What did was unplugging everything from the back of my computer, one by one, even unplugging the power cable. Fearing that I would have to take this poor thing up to the shop, I tried to turn it back on.
The amount of ‘THANK CHRIST!!!!” I said was unbelievable when it finally booted normally. Obviously, there’s a short in one of the USB cables (of something I got plugged in). How in the FUCK did it get in there, remains a mystery. I’ve never had this happen in my life, let alone happen twice in a 3-day period. But WHY IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT IS HOLY..is preventing the poor thing from booting?!?!

I do remember as the clock struck 12am for the 30th, I heard this really loud crash outside; it sounded like an explosion. I looked through the windows, and smelled the air for smoke, but there was nothing. No red glow. No smoke smell. Later in the morning, was discovered a large branch fell from a tree nearby. We were having a bit of a windstorm after the passing of a strong cold front.

What I’ll try tonight is switching cables and put them in other USB ports, hoping that will fix the problem for good. Another thing I could do is just try (when or if it happens again), step by step, to see what is causing the issue. And if I can isolate it to one component, to try to replace it.
Here, mid-December, I had the loss of my primary games drive. And now I’m getting this odd issue.
I just hope it doesn’t get worse before I have a chance to hopefully fix the problem.

Death is never easy, but it’s something all of us know that grieving, being around with friends and loved ones for support, and then finally moving on is the way to go.
